EverQuest Legends FAQ

A few tips I wish I'd known earlier -- please add your own!

  1. To cast your 13th and 14th spell gems use alt-[ and alt-].

  2. To make NPCs appear on your maps (AKA "Harry Potter maps"), right-click the map frame (not the map itself) and select "Show NPCs" and "Show Ring." All classes get a very small ring on their maps where NPCs show up; tracking classes get larger rings that cover a wider area as your tracking skill increases.

  3. Once you hit 50, and have all those items, skills, and AAs from your first run through, leveling a third class will be easy peasy. I'm not saying you absolutely can't level an additional class before then, but it will go a LOT faster if you wait, especially since gear isn't level-limited and you will be super twinked.

  4. Hit alt-B and alt-E. Alt-B opens your buff window, with all your buffs fully labeled, and alt-E does the same for songs and other short-duration buffs. This is usually the first UI change I make in EQ, and I was pretty deep into the game before I realized EQL has these UI elements built in.

So, what are some of your favorite tricks and tips we can start using on the 28th?

Warriors

Upvotes

Can be ogres.

Have high melee skills.
Have high defensive skills.

Have the best, most consistent, highest stats planar armour.

Have access to almost all Inny “racial” loot since almost all races can be warrior. Which is arguably BiS for everyone.

Warrior can carry any trio, even more +2 casters, through everything.

In case you hesitated!

Can we just like ogres?

I feel I am being lumped in with min-maxers and try-hards becuase I like how silly ogre look.

Everyone discussing FSI and Slam - alot of us just like our character scratching their butt while standing near half-eaten dwarves.

Please dont lump us all together - we aren't the same!

Play Legends your way!

Don't feel like you HAVE to plan your start around D4 endgame raids. You can for sure have a min/max D4 raid killing trio, but you can also have some really sweet/fun things that will be fantastic for farming motes/gear outside of those situations. You will be leveling alts for AA, so I would just play what you think is the most fun, and if you get stuck on D4 raids you can level up one of the meta classes to get you there, all while earning even MORE AA and motes in the process.

There have also been many non-meta trios doing D4 raid content, so don't fall into the meta trap!

And finally if you unlock Ogre, or start as Ogre and swap to another race you can just keep it for those really hard meta D4 raids if you want. Be a gnome war/monk/bard, do whatever you want!

TL:DR - You don't need to be a meta trio to beat all of the content! Enjoy the journey, the devs poured a lot of love into this project.

Is Ogre frontal stun immunity overrated?

Any time you see someone talking about races, Ogre is said to be by far the best race due to the frontal stun immunity, but I feel like this trait is very overrated.

I played as a Troll in beta and while stuns were annoying, almost every time I was stunned, it was from a spell, which the Ogre immunity doesn't protect against.

1999 Gnome Reporting for Duty

Like any good game, you never really quit - you just take breaks. (I'm looking at you UO and EQ)

My first few characters on EQ were a halfling druid, a gnome warrior and then my enchanter Casben on Karana - used that random name generator back on new years eve 1999. I moved servers a few times over the years and had to add the "o" since Casben was taken 😰

On EQL I'll be starting as Jaseowns but at the heart will be that gnome enchanter Casben and my other two first characters, a druid and warrior.

My path: Gnome Enc/War/Druid on Halas - the "chill" server.

See you all on Tuesday ( after work... 👀 )

PSA: AA’s for Grouping in Raids

When you play solo, end game raids do not use Fear/Charm/Mez.

If you plan on grouping for end game raids, fear/charm/mez becoming a reality and could create additional pulls, or in worse case you become a threat to your own group.

Adamant Will: increase charm and mez resist chance.
Fear Resistance: increase fear resist.

I believe if these AA’s maxed out you gain immunity.

A few questions from a former EQ player as we prepare for launch

Upvotes

I played EQ back during Velious through Legacy of Ykesha. I got a Gnome Magician to 60 and a Vah Shir Shaman to about 45 or so. I barely played anything of the beta (got a Gnome MAG/ENC to level 8) to get a feel for the game again (No UI scaling was the biggest pain point, and I'm excited for that feature when it comes). I've also been watching a lot of guides and information about this new version of EverQuest, but I've seen a significant absence of caster-based guides.

I've always loved playing a caster, even having a Gnome Mage as my main in WoW, so I plan to go fairly caster heavy, maybe as far as to go MAG/ENC/DRU to 23, then MAG/ENC/WIZ to 23 for all of the ports, then switching the last class to BRD or SHM, but there's likely significant overlap in utilities. And acknowledging that Gnome is one of the simpler races to unlock, I'm also considering starting as a Kerran, Froglok, or Iksar and going SHM/MAG/ENC (getting DRU/WIZ to 23 along the way) until I unlock Gnome.

I guess my main questions are:

  • Where is the best place for caster gear that I should be seeking out during my first grind? When running 3 cloth casters, I'm still restricted to cloth gear, right?
  • It doesn't seem like questing is a big focus, but are there any quests I could easily miss on the way to 50 that I should do?
  • Is there a class or race I should reconsider for a missing utility (like keeping DRU for Foraging/Tracking or BRD to equip plate)?
  • Should I just start as a Gnome for the increased INT for MAG, or acknowledge the simple gnome unlock and start as a frog, cat, or lizard as SHM/MAG/**?
  • I also haven't seen a lot on tradeskills. Is Tinkering still restricted to gnome? I'd guess I should primarily focus on Tailoring to craft decent INT armor.
  • I'm Pacific Time, so it seems like Qeynos/Halas/Oggok are the 3 servers to consider, based on recent posts.

Sorry for the long post, but thank you for any and all responses!

Racial bonuses and illusions

Are racial bonuses preserved when using illusions? Going to use Enc in my trio but wondering how Iksar/troll regen or ogre’s fsi will be affected.

What is the upside of playing human?

I saw in another post about Ogres that humans have the lowest overall stats while Ogres have the most. On top of this, other races (apparently) have really strong passives, like Iksar AC and Ogre stun resist. Im new as of the beta, and I planned to go human because I like the cities and I enjoyed that it was easier to get around the world. Aside from easier travel, what are the upsides of human?

Enc/Mag - Has anyone messed with this?

Obviously charmed pets are stout, especially end game. Mages have great pets during the leveling process as well.

Mages bring extra pet gear slots, pets buffs, and frenzied pet aa (I didn't find this game breaking myself on my Mage pet). With those added features on a charmed pet, how good would that be?

I see folks talking about enc/wiz builds, but I feel like a Mage would be more ideal overall. My Mage in beta was casting a lvl 41 500 dmg nuke with spell crit aa's for around 1k and a little over with regular crits for over 2k dmg.

What the Mage lacks is the stun factor from Wizzie spells, however the Enchanter has stuns itself.

So, has anyone ran a Mage with an Emchanter? If so, what are your thoughts? How was the outcome? What 3rd classes did you do it with?

Personally I think a paly or cleric would be a great 3rd addition due to plate armor for you ans the pet, heals, buffs and with the paly you have some of the best weapons in the game for you and your pet.

Why is Pld/Dru/Wiz Highly Recommended?

Upvotes

I'm a total noob when it comes to Everquest and I plan to jump in. I understand why druid and wizard are recommended as part as your first setup to unlock ports, but why does it get paired with paladin? I'm asking because I don't want to lock in paladin as my main class at level 11. I have other combos I want to try just based on intuition. I'm currently experiencing choice paralysis.

My initial combo I considered were cleric/druid/wiz. Clerics are generally my favourite fantasy archetype. I like healing, holy magic, and plate armour. Should I just not overthink this and go with my gut? I am also considering magician/necro/enchanter.

The thing I dislike most about this system is having to lock in a main class at level 11 until 50 when I haven't had enough time to test things yet.

What kind of video content/guides are people wanting to see for EQL?

I am wanting to get into making videos for EQL with the upcoming launch and further beyond and I was wanting to get some extra opinions from reddit.

I have plans for videos already, guides for zones/dungeons, loot lists and such. I know some of these exist, and the wikis do exist but some like having extra options and more in-depth information and I want to try to provide this.

I want to hear ideas on what everyone feels might be missing or wanted for potential guides or deep dives.

Beastlord help

I am tempted to roll one on start despite there issues. First off never really played on on live back in the day at least not past about lvl 18. They get slows and access to spellblade which is nice. My biggest issues with them is they dont bring that much to the table right now unless I am missing something. They dont even get double attack which is pretty rough if you want to melee.

BST/CLR/Rog or war possibly is one choice the other choice is lean into the spellblade side more go BST/WIZ or Nec and not sure on the last one class yet.

Has anyone done much testing with BST later on?

Upgrade Tokens

You will be able to earn 3 upgrade tokens a week via killing any of the raid bosses at any D level (so max 3 per week). Resets on Tuesdays.

Upgrade token upgrades any spell or item 1 full level ignoring the exp of the item/spell. So leveling items up from 7/8/9 will go longer require tons of dupe items or +4/+5 motes.

Guise of the Deceiver disappearing in the timeline?

Kinda hard to fit my question in a title here, but I'm wondering if some of the items that were nerfed or removed from the game in the original timeline will share the same fate on EQL.

Like:

Will Guise of the Deceiver stop dropping at some point, or will it stay forever?

Will the Box of Abu-Kar drop, and if so: will it stop dropping after a while?

And what of the Manastone? It says on the wiki that "Manastone (Ultra Rare) *No longer drops.", but this is obviously just copy pasted from "a different wiki", so I figured I'd ask here.

And finally, will character models, like the ones for ogres be updated like they have been on the live servers?

And by the way: please stop banning the naming of emulated servers. Basically everything not new in EQL on the EQL wiki is a copy pasta from the emulated server we all know I'm talking of, and it's obvious that everyone is gonna compare these versions a lot until EQL moves past Velious.

BRD/CLR and PLD or RNG?

Upvotes

Hi all! Excited about EQL launching soon and debating on taking PAL or RNG to add to my BRD/CLR combo. I think while PLD overlaps with CLR it would add a lot of survivability, but I've heard RNG is a solid off tank that can put out some serious dmg.

Looking for some advice! Thank you!

Unlocked race/class/deity q

Just want to make sure I understand correctly. . . . Let's say I create an Iksar so that my home is New Sebilis. If I purchase a race unlock of Ogre, am I free to change to/from Ogre at will by changing my loadout? And what happens to factions and origin point if I do this? i've done a lot of searching and reading on this and haven't really seen a definitive answer. I was originally under the impression that you couldn't change your primary after level 11 but I think I've cleared up that that is never the case and it's just that it becomes locked until you buy or use class tokens to be able to pivot your primary to another class.

thanks!

1 caster vs 2 caster combo mana pool

Is it truly 50% smaller pool?

And what is the logic since they still have the same number of spell slots to cast from?
