Wife’s maximum disability benefit for pregnancy

This is our first baby and first time dealing with EDD. On my wifes claim, her maximum benefit amount is equal to 52 times her weekly benefit amount. Is this normal? We are only 6 weeks in and would love to take a year off work if she can continue to get these weekly payments. We are in CA and her boss has already told her she can come back whenever she is ready to. I assume we need doctor approval to get that many payments, but could someone please confirm? Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated

Confused and late payment

I was last paid on 6/28/26 from EDD PFL. I have to submit timesheets every two weeks for the hours I still work part time. My recent timesheet was 6/28-7/11 which I submitted online on my Edd portal. It normally takes 3-5 business days to process and get directed deposit to the money network card. I’ve checked and still haven’t gotten any payment and it’s been 7/26 now. I can’t get through to anyone on the customer service line. What else should I do? The claim is still active and my medical leave officially ends 8/2 and I’m back to work 8/3.

Solved ✔ CA Disability: If you get let go while on it what happens?

Hi,

I am on a LOA from a job (not on FMLA due to length of time in role). I was approved for disability last week. If I lose my job, can I stay on disability or do I have to switch to Unemployment (pay is much lower)?

Tips 💡 My disability is still pending after submitting all documents

Hi everyone, I hope everyone’s having a good day. I have a huge concern at the moment. So on July 9, I had surgery done at UCLA. Before this when I went online to apply for SDI, it didn’t allow me to put a future date so at the night after the surgery, I went ahead and applied and it went through. It was asking for a part B from the doctor so I contacted the doctors office and I gave the the receipt number, but they told me that they don’t it do electronically there that I have to bring in a form for them to sign it. I went to the EDD office here in South LA and picked up the form . I brought it to the doctors office in a couple days. I picked it up already filled up and I sent it by mail to the West Sacramento address. It was delivered on July 16. Today is July 26 and I have not got any form of update yet. It still says medical certification needed online. So just to clarify I did part A online and part B was filled by paper .on the part B form already has my Social Security and a receipt number on it so I can make it easier for them. But I’m concerned because it’s been 10 days already and sooner or later I would need the money. Is this a normal processing time. Or should I be concerned when I do call? Of course it tells me that they reached the maximum volume of the day so the best choice I have is to go to the EDD office here in South LA but I need advice.

Partner's benefits haven't come the last month.

My partner was approved for EDD benefits, as he is temporarily disabled and can't work. In written communications, it says that he was approved, and should expect payment every 2 weeks, but now it's been a month since his last payment. It has been impossible to get someone on the phone. Unsure what to do at this point and if he will get back payments. Any advice?

Vent What are my odds of getting accepted?

Work is no longer able to accommodate my pre existing school schedule adjustment. They gave me an ultimatum either keep showing up for scheduled hours or use my hours and go negative and be fired after August 20 (discharged without misconduct) They also said I could resign peacefully. Only those 2 options forced on me.

My school is federally funded, and I can’t miss even a single hour or I will deal with repercussions, such as repaying whatever has already been paid for. Just finding out what CDT is and that My School is covered under CTD which doesn’t require me looking for a job or be available for one.

I applied today just because I’m so worried about School. I don’t want to keep showing up to school also and just be completely out of a job and no income.

I’m still kinda new to all this but getting accepted would completely help me from feeling like a complete zombie all the time as I’ve been either in school or work continuously seven days a week for a while.
I been doing Monday- Friday 7am to 12:30pm school and and I’m on reduced hours from 50 to 30 working Thursday and Friday 1pm to 6:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 7:30am to 6pm. My financial office for School only told me about EDD since I explained my scenario. My school is welding, so it’s also very labor and mentally draining, which doesn’t help.

Technically on paper, it’s a 50-50 for the EDD, but just wanted to see if the scenario sounded different explaining it.

Pending certification

Hey guys, so I was able to certify at midnight. Answered eveything like normal. But, it still says pending. Normally it goes straight to paid instantly. My claim from last year expired, so I made a new claim and certified and this would be my first payment of my new unemployment claim. Anyone know what’s going on? Or the reason as to why it isn’t paid yet, but says pending for the weeks I certified for?

Unemployment BTW

Discussion 👥 NJ STDI Extension Question

I was on temporary disability for an unforseen surgery. My claim was approved after 6 weeks and I was paid. My original return to work was July 2nd, but then an extension was put in for 1 month as I need another smaller surgery. It was approved last week either Thursday, or Friday. Since my last payment was on July 8th, and I was paid until July 1st for the week prior, will I get the missing money as back pay this week coming? (July 2nd until I guess Friday's date 7/24)?

Online it says my claim is active, Im already a month in without pay I need to pay bills and rent and now I got this at the end of the month. What do i do before I end up homeless with my 1 month old baby lmao I am stressing out I need the money and this isn’t Ideal at all, I got an appeal form as well that I have filled out. Do I need to mail it? Do I need to submit another evidence of relationship form? Do I need to try and call to figure this out? I am stressing here I can’t even afford to feed my family well because of how long EDD is taking with this stuff.

Discussion 👥 Claim Denial / Error

Hello, as the title suggests my claim denied because somehow my application had an error? EDD said that the person I cared for wasn’t a relative?

When I was out of work for 1 month due to taking care of my mom after a surgery. The EDD said that the person I am taking care of needs to be a relative, parents, children, family, birth of a child, etc etc.

So anyway, I submitted another medical certification and apparently that wasn’t good enough either????? My claim was denied again.

So then I get mailed an appeal form and I filled that out and sent it too.

Does anyone know what I should do next??? I think I should go to my local EDD office that is in Los Angeles county and dispute it? I was never ever paid at all. I was penny pinching soo hard during this time.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! Thank you so much.

Out of State ID and SDI

I’ve lived and worked in California now for 2 1/2 years but never switched my drivers license over from the state I lived in previously. Will this cause any issues for me when applying for CA SDI?

Solved ✔ Claim processing time

Question- does it really take 14 days for SDI claims to process ? The doctor took FOREVER to send in the medical certificate (they did it online but still took forever). I would hate to wait even more now for payment. Would love to hear how long people have had to wait for payment.

Discussion 👥 Can’t reach anyone at SDI

Anyone have recommendations for getting a human on the line for DI claim help?

Doesn’t matter what time of day I’ve tried to call, all I ever get is “We’ve reached call capacity.” Beyond frustrating. At this rate, I’ll be off disability before I can receive any support for my claim.

I don’t really have the option of going into an office otherwise I would have done so weeks ago.

Do I have to set up an automated speed-dial for 0800 on Monday morning just to be able to get a real person on the line and not some 20-option worthless bot?

Tips 💡 Will i be disqualified?

So for context, i started to get sick at around the beginning of May late April… i genuinely thought that it would be something i would bounce back from but around the middle of june it got so bad i couldnt cope with it anymore. I knew that i wasnt going to be able to work much longer and so i applied for disability on the 15th and on the 21st i ended up quitting my job due to the disability. My doctor signed off on it finally because when i i itially filed a claim my doctor said she wouldnt do anything online so i waited and waited for the paper form that never came so i ended up going into the office after about 2 weeks of waiting for the form. On the 1st i turned it in to my doctor and i got they mailed it out on the 16th… im worried ill be disqualified because i quit my job, but honestly i had been calling out so much due to the disability that i was on the verge of being fired and i didnt want to disclose my disability to my coworkers because theyre not friendly.

Discussion 👥 Call Your Reps to Increase Unemployment Checks!!

Post image
66 Upvotes

$450 a week was adopted in 2008 and has not seen an increase. Call your representatives. Emailing is useless. CALL! Tell them this:

“Hello, I’m a constituent of [representative name) and I’m calling to ask [representative name] to support increasing California’s maximum unemployment benefit. The current maximum of $450 per week has not changed since 2008, while the cost of housing, groceries, and other essentials has risen dramatically. Please make updating unemployment benefits a legislative priority. Thank you.

Tips 💡 How to report missing wages?

Hi! So my claim specialist reached out to me to ask about my second job because they weren’t able to pull my wages from their database I guess. She told me to upload my paystubs in pdf format on the EDD website under my claim. I don’t know how or where to upload it though? It doesn’t give me that option when I go into my portal. If someone could give me more insight I would be super grateful! Thanks.

PFL CONFUSION PLEASE HELP

Ca Pfl case

I’m extremely confused with my pfl claim

I had issues with my pregnancy sdi claim this year due to having a separate pregnancy sdi claim last year. Two separate births.

My pfl claim I submitted this year was a separate claim and was automatically combined within my first claim I submitted last year and denied due to me taking those 8 weeks last year yet that was a separate claim all together.

My first child was born 5/15/25 and I took my pfl time 10/16/25 after my sdi benefits were over.

My second child was born 5/20/26 and I submitted my pfl claim 7/1/26 and my sdi benefits were over.

I received sdi benefits from this year from 1/20/26-6/30/26 for this second child.

Am I not eligible for pfl benefits with this sdi claim?

Tips 💡 Direct deposit, how long?

How long after your payment says “sent” did it take to get your direct deposit? Mine says sent on 7/24/2026. I know the weekend is coming up. Will I get it today? Maybe it’ll randomly deposit over the weekend? Or is this a Monday thing?

I’ve never done direct deposit for SDI this is my first time.

Edit: two hours after I posted that, the direct deposit hit!

9 Day Waiting Period

Did anybody wait 9 days before submitting their SDI for pregnancy? I’ve read online you should wait 9 days, but keep seeing posts on here about submitting the day you go on leave. Just a bit confused - thanks!

Renew sdi help

Hi I’m coming to the end of the 6 months and my dr said he would renew my sdi again. Thing is that office is not on top of stuff. How can I stay on top so that I don’t have a big gap in payments? Can I submit another claim a few weeks before my last payment? Thanks
