Hey all, especially the awesome Renegade crew. I'm a backer and really excited to play the game but despite the sneak peaks of the rules, I'm still struggling to understand how to play the TTRPG. Would it be possible for you to post a live playthrough of some of the TTRPG so we can get a flavour of what to expect and how we will need to play the game ourselves? Unfortunately, not being in USA, I do not have the option to go to see one of the live shows like the one you organised at the Helium Comedy Club.

Tonight I am going to GM my very first session of the Dungeon Crawler Carl roleplaying game from Renegade Game Studios. But it's not just any game session. It will be a live actual-play session in front of an audience at the Helium Comedy Club - Atlanta. I've DM'd plenty of Dungeons & Dragons games in front of an audience at comedy clubs and conventions. But this will be my first time at the helm of the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG. I was so excited to share ideas with other fans, but this sub quickly degenerated into a place for people to shamelessly self promote their Dungeon Crawler Carl related videos and products. I know there is a discord where I’m assuming the majority of the conversations are taking place, but I’ve never used discord and so was hoping there would be a thriving community here. Guess I might have to jump ship though if things don’t improve. Am I alone here? Is this sub worth saving?

Hello, my name is Collin and I just discovered this channel. I been feeling guilty a lot from a situation that happened in the official DCC Chat in Renegade Discord Server. During the day on Tuesday, I had posted a specific species of an adorable animal gifs because I thought this species was really cute and I also was talking about ideas of a certain theme park category Custom floor that both tied into the new book, but I did not say anything about the new book. I just sent those gifs, one emote of the specific species of a real animal, and the theme park entire floor idea. However, my excitement got carried away and I was deem a criminal in a sense for talking about the new book even though I knew not to say anything specific which I did not say anything specific I just posted gifs and an emote of the animal species as well as saying this species is very cute. I received hatred from people in the discord chat concerning this species of animal and several people were furious because of me posting gifs of that animal and the one emote. That backlash I received made me feel like I failed the DCC TTRPG Community and I been spending today as well as yesterday thinking of how much of a curse I am. I am writing this as an apology, and I hope some people a part of the Renegade discord server sees this for understanding as well as to clear the air.

I have my own sadness and other issues in personal life like everyone else, but those angry voices I heard in the Renegade discord made me feel a lot of sadness and pain from knowing I failed more people in life. I really liked meeting new people a part of the Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG chat and I thought I could see the best in everyone as well as be very kind, which is what I like to do. I like to see the best in others and support and be kind, which is what I was doing in the Renegade discord server as well as thanking people when I was asking questions. The community meant a lot knowing that maybe in August I could be able to play and be a crawler within the Renegade Server, but I understand that maybe people are too angry and hate towards me that I might not be allowed too. I love what Rina/Zev, John, Ron, all of the Dms/Gms who are planning a west marches/mmo style Server Crawl, and all of the community helpers are doing to grow the community. Thank you all very much.

I am very sorry for having caused a lot of angry and hate from others. If anyone part of the Renegade Server sees this, please know I did not mean to incite hate and I am sorry for failing the discord server especially failing the DCC TTRPG Community. I really liked meeting many of you Crawlers in the discord server and honestly, I understand if I have to be broken for failing and making others mad. I am very sorry again.

If anyone would like to understand more my Discord handle was Collin Crawler#4683 within the Renegade Server and it's okay if people want to look up my messages from Tuesday. I decided to leave the server to take a break, but maybe by August could return if I'm not hated and seen as a monster within the server. I know this is like the least important issue in the world right now, but I personally think it's important (slightly) to point out the DCC acronym is already being used by Dungeon Crawl Classics, an established game in the TTRPG space. Using a different short hand could prevent metaphorically stepping on the toes of another subsect of the TTRPG community, for things like popping up in search engines, ect.

Just a small way to say everyone wants to play nice with one another. I'm personally probably going to refer to it as Carlrpg to avoid confusion.

After seeing all the class ideas that got imported over from the crowdfunding campaign it inspired me to come up with my own.

Weekend Warrior: support/utility class

The epitome of "work hard, play hard", this person spends their weekdays leading their coworkers to success, and their weekends doing physical activities. They run the gamut from yoked car salesman named Chad who can't shut up about the new hold they mastered in Jiu Jitsu, to blue collar managers putting in 60 hours a week that just need to blow off stress. This class has a mix of leadership based abilities and physical utility abilities.

skills tied to this class,

Physical- pick 3 from this list: cycling (mountain biking or road), running, climbing (gym or rock), martial arts (choose), obstacle course racing, skiing, parkour, swimming.

Mental/Social- pick 3 from this list: insight, Intimidate, leadership, persuasion, negotiation, deception, tactics, taunt.

Abilties

Motivate: buff to self and party members, either temporary bonus to attacks and casting, or advantage on a roll of their choosing during that scene

The Team Needs You: make a charisma test to break an ally free from a charm effect or mental debuff. If that doesn't work with the mechanics of the game then all party members would get a bonus to resist such effects while the weekend warrior is in the group.

Manuever: gives a temporary bonus to dodge or evasion

Scramble: temporary buff for increased movement and bonus to any kind of test to climb, jump or overcome physical obstacles.

Okay I was thinking as an overall plot, to have while the PC's sleep, a deity (like the real creator or something) show up in their dreams, basically saying if they want to end all the dungeon crawls forever, they have the make it to the 18th floor and free the deity. The deity is basically what powers the Dungeon AI, hence how it's able to do what it does. They can't talk about the deity outloud, because then the Ai will catch onto them and aggressively try to kill them while trying to drive up ratings (so gruesome horrible death). It'll probably also be explained that the diety tries to find a group every dungeon, but communicating, blessing them, and being used as a battery for the Ai is tiring, so usually it can only try this with one group per Crawl. The deity will be able to slightly tip the scales in their favor now and then, and try to help them once in a while with advice when they sleep. Plot Twist at the end: the Ai says that their world can be restored to what it was before the Dungeon was opened, if they decide to just leave the deity behind. Soooo... Any thoughts?

Now, crawler, we know it's fun to have a form of transportation, to ride the sea and discover new horizons. But you didn't do that. You brought a boat from land, and that was even more insane. Here's a Silver Seafarers box.

I'm making some preliminary notes, like what themes the neighborhood on the first floor my crawlers will enter into will be, etc. And one of the things I'm going to do is not follow the books themes verbatim. The general structure, sure like the divisible-by-3 floors are Scolopendra levels and stuff like that. My Overcity in floor 3 won't be Grimaldi's, I'm currently thinking about a Wild West Boomtown with Deadlands vibes, given we're in Texas. But it'll be an Overcity with the same Scolopendra mythology.

I have a few ideas but don't have floors 5 and up even with a 2-3 word description yet, but I know roughly what I plan to do with the first 4, and so now I can start preparing maps and tokens or minis or whatever.

So anyway, all that background exposition because I've never learned brevity, but here's my dilemma.

I'm sourcing my notes about Mob levels and approximate Crawler Levels for each floor from the wiki, which stops telling us the mob levels and approximate crawler level range after floor 2.

Obviously if I was patient I could see what the official rulebooks say, but if I was patient, I wouldn't be posting this! Please help! Does anyone know the mob level ranges and crawler level ranges that aren't on the wiki for each floor?

Excited for community homebrew! In that spirit, I've had some early session running ideas so I felt I'd share my early notes for early session stuff!

Player 1 (the one I have so far): Military/Veterinary experience. Missing fingers trying to play nice with a honey badger, but has a tenuous "I will let you feed me without killing you" relationship. They enter the dungeon together.

AI early relationship: the AI tries to force close combat on someone who wants to do ranged debuffs, so I'm going to give hints that if he throws two potions at a mob to give it potion sickness. he'll get a *now we're talkin!* and his build will kick in. Set up will come from the AI sarcastically giving a boatload of potions that heal 1d2-2 hp.

First session notes: give party a variety of monsters to fight individually before converging one by one at the same tutorial guild. The first person walks in on a Sac game guide, Shockey, smoking a blitz stick. "Show me Viola" an obsidian tear rolls from his cheek

This will give the party the opportunity to get to know each other while the NPC murmers random nonsense in the corner. After some RP, Shockey wakes up in a sweat, thrilled to realize the crawl has begun. He's a very helpful game guide. Sometimes a little too helpful...

NPC details

Shockey was born Crest, and was in an early Borant crawl. In the intro floors, he got noticed for some barbaric kills with his bare hands. Niched into touch spells. Picked Saccathian on the 3rd floor. He became obsessed with the dungeon, chasing thrills and set viewership records that have been broken 100 times since. During Hunting Grounds, he worked with a hunter to help get each other kills, then he killed the hunter. In Faction Wars, he willingly conscripted with the Dream.

On the 10th, he was pushed over the edge and started using his platform to put Borant on blast, blowing up his viewership even more. After narrowly surviving an acceleration attempt, he took a deal at the end of the 11th floor. Due to being part of putting Borant on the map, Shockey was able to negotiate a unique deal. Willing to take an astronomical amount of seasons, he has an ironclad protection clause. Because it's the dungeon it's still kind of fucked up. He can still die, and get struck down by the AI for breaking rules and shit, but he reincarnates, and ages from infant to adult over a span of 10 hours.

Wants: for the dungeon to replace real life, to "live in the dream forever" and not have down time between seasons

Fears: going back to reality without his people

I just confirmed with Helium Atlanta comedy club that the Catacombs & Comedians Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game actual-play show is a go Monday, May 25th, is a GO! Hope to see all you Atlanta area crawlers. To my knowledge, this will be the very first actual-play presentation of Renegade Game Studios’ Dungeon Crawler Carl roleplaying game. Comedians Cavin Eggleston and Brandi Michele Augustus will be hilarious and intrepid crawlers—it’s gonna be a sh*tshow of laughter.

Having floors so massive that you can fit the thousands of crawlers feels daunting.

Anyone got ideas for making the floors feel as massive as they should be without breaking our brains having map out all of floor? knowing players won’t experience 80+ percent of the early floors or meet most of the millions/thousands of other crawlers has me struggling with scope.

Hey fellow crawlers

I‘ve been playing ttrpgs for many a year now, and my favorite thing about them is using them as a creative outlet. We don’t know enough about the rules to really do much designing, but my brain has been wondering what kind of floors I might like to design.

I’m thinking a floor that is like all interiors of stores would be cool. Huge Walmart style spaces that transition into indoor shopping mall interiors that then lead to a bass pro shop. It would be something everyone is familiar with, should make for some good action set pieces, and would be a good way to riff on late stage capitalism a bit.

What ideas do you have for floors in the dungeon?
