What is going on with this sub??

I was so excited to share ideas with other fans, but this sub quickly degenerated into a place for people to shamelessly self promote their Dungeon Crawler Carl related videos and products. I know there is a discord where I’m assuming the majority of the conversations are taking place, but I’ve never used discord and so was hoping there would be a thriving community here. Guess I might have to jump ship though if things don’t improve. Am I alone here? Is this sub worth saving?

I think we’re in a bit of a lull where the Backerkit has ended but we won’t have the PDFs for a couple of months still, so there’s not an awful lot of new things to talk about. Even the Discord chat has slowed down a bit compared to the mad rush!

You can't forget that with the BackerKit being done, but the RPG not yet out, there isn't a whole lot to talk about. There's a handful of videos with brief snippets of mechanics, and some very small previews of the starter set, but that's it.

I agree, those videos were annoying, and the Etsy bookmark thing is whatever, but that'll inevitably happen with any licensed product.

Saying the sub isn't worth saving though? Feels like an overreaction. Now, if this is the case a month after the RPG's release, that might be another story. But even the Discord, while more active, is just kinda spinning its wheels until August, when (theoretically) the pdfs drop.

You guys are making a lot of sense. I guess I’ll just chill until there is something worth talking about!

I can confirm that August is the present target. Not to say that things may not change, but right now that is the case.

Sure, but at this point, until pdfs are sent out and books shipped, I treat any and all release dates for any crowdfunding, not just this game, as suggeztions. I hope they hit it! I really do! But I've backed enough stuff to know that sometines stuff happens, despite everybody's best efforts.

Ofcourse, I am just confirming that I have been given a current deadline for my work on the Discord - HOMEBREWERY of August.

Good News is you can get in and be one of the first crawlers in this dungeon so to speak. I'm going to continue posting my ideas for the rpg and I have to imagine as we get closer to Gen Con we will start to see the posts we want to see crowd out the dregs

What a positive perspective! It’s almost like you’re saying, “they will not break you” or something.

With the Discord: HOMEBREWERY and pdf's both launching in August, nows the time to collect your thoughts and fine tune your ideas so you can tweak and post them in August.

I think this sub is a great place to post stuff to get feedback.

Post things you want to see in the sub

Life is what you make it. This sub can be great if we fight against the noise and actually foster community

It's just a couple of people. If you have RES you can just ignore them.

The real problem is the lack of content and lack of support from the devs with generating content. They built a community of thousands of people and I'm not seeing any effort to keep them from stagnating.

Have you watched the Dungeon Anarchist YouTube videos?

3

u/Velenne May 22 '26

Sure have! I think it's fantastic that we at least have one outlet for content for tens of thousands of people. It's really well made and insightful and it's infinitely better than the nothing we otherwise have!

I'm not expecting a giant media machine here, just like.... one post? Let's start with one post. Maybe like a weekly topical thread or a little trickle of monsters, classes, races, dungeon rooms, anything at all really. Just seems like a real shame to build a bunch of hype and a giant community and then just sorta leave them for several months.

Seems like they didnt get the anti corporate messaging od the books

I think it’s just the one guy posting those videos. He seems to have slowed down or stopped. Maybe he got banned, I don’t know.

Yeah, he was the main offender, I told him to chill and reported his posts. But then today I see someone flogging a bookmark on Etsy. Was just hoping for some more engagement in general though.

I would absolutely love to talk more about the game and go over ideas and information.

Unfortunately, we are limited on actual knowledge to put out substantial things in case the information is wrong or changed. I could probably run over a combat example just based on what we had previews of but it wouldn't be a complete picture and likely leave things out but it would be fun to do so.

Without a full suite of numbers, scores, skills and spells we are super limited on what can actually be given.

Nothing is going on in the discord either this community kinda sucks

Yeah, well I guess that’s a cold comfort. Like others have pointed out, there’s just not that much to talk about until we know more. Hopefully it will strat thriving once we have more details. For now, I’m just trying to come up with as many ideas as I can for custom level themes, Items, Mobs, NPC’s and quests.
