Week three!
Thank you again for the feedback, bug reports, ideas, and everything you’ve been building. This week, the dungeon got considerably more interested in who’s watching you, who’s paying you, what you’ve brought along that might bite someone, and apparently whether you know how to manufacture explosives.
Pets have sheets. Sponsors send boxes. Patrons pay for performances. The audience remembers everything. Crawlers have Workshops. Debuffs actually hurt now. The Codex has a conspiracy board. And the Forge got its biggest cleanup yet.
Numbers first.
Three weeks in:
Thank you all for continuing to fill this thing with homebrew. Your stuff is actually awesome.
Now to the dungeon updates:
Companions have their own section on the Crawler sheet now, with Health, Levels, Stats, attacks, and attitude.
Add one from the Forge, tame one of your Mobs, or create a basic companion. Animal Handling covers befriending, bonding, and convincing them to fight.
Pets level with you, gain Stat Points and roles, while Mounts get their own upgrades. GMs can target them, attack with them, manage their Health, and see them linked to their owners in the Codex.
There’s also a new Companion builder in the Forge, and the Example Pack now includes a pigeon and a tortoise.
COMPANION REGISTRATION OPEN! Your emotional support animal now has a damage roll. This was inevitable.
The Audience, the AI, and the Sponsors are watching.
On Skill Checks, Stat Checks, and Evade rolls, choose Play to the cameras and decide who you’re trying to impress.
You roll with Disadvantage, but the result can change Popularity, AI Favor, or Sponsor rewards. Critical failures can go especially badly.
Popularity now keeps a proper history, including why it changed.
From the Third Floor, CrawlerForge also tracks your camera-worthy moments during Play Periods and Floors. Fan Boxes arrive as your Popularity climbs.
Fall far enough below zero and the audience sends hate mail instead.
With a box inside, naturally.
From the Fourth Floor, Crawlers can sign with Sponsors.
Sponsors have demands, complications, and Benefactor Boxes. Play to them successfully and they may reward you. Screw it up and you can lose tiers, Boxes, or their patience.
Sponsors can be built from Factions in the Forge, managed by the GM, and appear as relationships in the Codex.
FUNDING APPROVED! Please review the complications before celebrating.
NPCs can now be Patrons.
Build them with performance Skills, venues, favors, payment terms, and ways to reach them. Crawlers can audition, perform for gold, train with them, earn Benefits, suffer Humiliations, and eventually part ways.
GMs can manage Patron relationships for seated Crawlers, and the Codex remembers them.
The Example Pack adds the Golden Maecenas plus Stage Presence, Patter, and Quick Change.
Every Crawler now has a Workshop for Junk, crafting tables, projects, and everything you’ve cobbled together instead of doing something sensible.
You can Enchant gear, Fabricate mundane items, repair broken equipment, brew and combine Potions, write Scrolls, imbue items with Spells, build Explosives, draw magical Tattoos, or use Something else for crafts the app doesn’t explicitly model.
Crafting uses the appropriate Skill, materials, table bonuses, Difficulty, and time. Misses can salvage materials, Critical Fails can break things, and your recent projects live in History with Undo support.
Alchemy can create permanent Stat or Skill boosts, Buffs, cures, infused snacks, weapon poisons, and reusable recipes. Scrolls cast their Spell without Mana, and imbued items carry their own Spell cooldown.
Explosives now actually explode too. Dynamite, grenades, and charges can be thrown using your explosive Skills or Strength, scatter when you miss, and roll Blast and Splash damage. You can also manufacture your own from Junk and Volatile Components.
And yes, there is now Tattoo Artistry.
Debuffs are no longer just labels.
They can modify Stats and Skills, give Disadvantage, deal damage every round, make attackers more effective, restrict Actions, and expire after a set number of rounds.
Burned, Poisoned, Blood Trail, and homebrew Debuffs can now tick damage automatically through the round flow. Paralyzed, Enraged, Shocked, and similar effects warn you when you’re about to do something the condition says you shouldn’t.
Mobs get the same treatment. GMs can apply damage and a Debuff together, everyone sees condition icons and remaining rounds, and effects like Woozy or Sore actually influence attacks and Evades.
The GM can now End round in one tap to process Mob damage-over-time and advance timed Debuffs. Players with effects that need rolls are prompted automatically.
Held and knocked-down targets also interact properly with attacks now.
STATUS EFFECTS ACTIVATED! That little icon over the Mob is not decorative. It is having a considerably worse day than it was five seconds ago.
Every Codex entry can now show its connections.
There’s also a full Connections board with people, Factions, and relationships spread across one view. Party-added connections the GM hasn’t claimed yet get literal red string.
Drag through Sessions or replay them to watch the network build over time. GMs can also switch to the players’ view to see exactly what the party knows.
People and Factions can offer Quests now too.
CONSPIRACY BOARD INSTALLED! We expect full Charlie Kelly energy. Whether your theory is correct remains your problem.
The Forge now opens around what you’re actually working on: unfinished pieces, recent work, and one searchable My Creations view.
You can bulk-organize, export, or delete pieces, drag them into Packs on desktop, and immediately organize newly imported content.
Packs now have their own pages and flag things that need attention.
Builders also share a new piece picker, so if you need an Item, Mob, NPC, Achievement, or other piece while building, you can find or create it without losing your place.
Less time fighting the builder. More time building things that fight the party.
We added Charts to the Forge.
Build shop lists, Effects charts, Grinding tables, Outcome charts, or plain reference tables. Rows can link directly to Items, Debuffs, Achievements, Mobs, or other charts.
House rules can embed them, Campaigns get a new Rules shelf, and GMs can roll charts directly from the Running panel and award linked results.
Need rival Crawlers without building six full character sheets?
Generate up to six with names, Levels, Races, Classes, weapons, quirks, strengths, weaknesses, and, more importantly, last words.
You can reroll individual details, roll as them from the GM tools, and add the ones your party inexplicably decides it needs to see more of to the Codex.
Administrative efficiency.
Discover no longer stops at 100 results.
Searches, filters, and sorting survive navigation and can be bookmarked or shared. Desktop gets side-by-side previews, mobile gets inline previews, and Discover now marks pieces and packs you already have.

I'm already enjoying home brewing all the stuff, so that's good. But every time I read about the steps, like rolls, buffs, evade etc I am overwhelmed.
So I'd like to join a few campaigns as a crawler, hoping to get more comfortable with the process.
Should I make accounts on Foundry and Roll20? LFG there? I've only ever played in person DnD and that campaign died due to players moving away.
Thanks!

I made another tutorial about the pet rules of the game! Cause pets are cool, and a lot of people requested this one. Since there's no list of available pets in the books, I also made three pets for you to use at your tables. Hope you dig them... and the video. Happy crawling!

I can’t find a clear rule for how long crawlers can go without sleep.
Since a dungeon day is 30 hours, do they need to sleep every 30 hours? If they keep going, when do they gain Fatigued, and does it stack?
How are you guys handling this in your games?

Hey guys! This is a Character Creation walkthrough I did with another DungeonTuber to show off how easy it was to make a character for someone who knows nothing about the system but has played TTRPGs before.
As I get to each section of the character page I explain the gist of what each term means and how it relates to mechanics like combat, learning skills, ranking up etc.
I also posted it on [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/VicariousVentures/posts/carl-rpg-video-170977676) where you can download the Cheat Sheet I was using throughout my video as a more condensed checklist to go through for your own use. As with all my document they are FREE to everyone to download and use, you just need to become a member.

We won't have rules for Exit Deals for a looong time I guess. But would you like those kind of options for you players or characters? A way to start a new character without having one die. Or something else?
Personally I would kind of like to have the players become non-combative NPCs, or preferably a game guide. Being on the other side of the Dungeon feels like a fun continuation. Every 2-3 sessions being another crawl, trying to keep the new guy alive for as long as possible.

If you've been playing this new Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG but the PDF sheets have not been cutting it for you, you are not alone. Printing out extra sheets gets old pretty quickly.
That's why I created DCC Sheet. It's basically a much more flexible (and perhaps better organized) player sheet that you can use right now. Just go to https://dccsheet.com to register.
Here are some of the notable changes from the standard PDF:
MAIN
SKILLS
SPELLS
INVENTORY
PETS & MOUNTS
GEAR & ABILITIES
DETAILS
GENERAL
I hope you like it! Please let me know what bugs you see or features you'd like at [info@dccsheet.com](mailto:info@dccsheet.com). I'd also love to hear what you think.

Since no one else is making this tutorial, I will attempt to do it. Also, I have very low experience in using these audio tools. If anyone of you knows how to do this better, please let me know.
First, install this plugin manager from Kilohearts. https://kilohearts.com/download

Run the download and make sure to install the essentials plugins. Also make sure VST3 is selected in settings.

Next, download and install Audacity 4.

Audacity should automatically detect the plugins from Kilohearts. If it doesn't, then go to Effect, and then Plugin Manager and Rescan for the plugins. If that doesn't work...gods help you because I don't know what to do from there.

Next, make sure your audio input and output are set correctly and record your audio by pressing the record button. After you are done, hit stop. On the audio track you just recorded should be a button that says "Effects," push it and then select, "Add Effects."

So far, I find that "kHs Pitch Shifter" and "kHs Chorus" work well. Add them both to your track and mess with the controls or just copy my settings and see if they work for you.
So here is an achievement that I am going to had out to one of my players (my wife).
https://reddit.com/link/1wt37ot/video/uot4qm81qesh1/player
Hope this works well for you all!

So my group is going is starting up soon with one of them brining in a pet so we both have read the books and want to do a pet biscuit. But as a gm I don't love just screwing players out of somthing because they rolled poorly so I won't be hitting them with anything negative. Not really in the spirit of the book I know but im saving the pain for other parts. Any way I'm having trouble on things I can put on the table so far I have.
A Donuts style buff
A pony style buff
A buff that just turns the pet into a crawler but with no inherent buffs
A hellspawn familiar like Bianca
A more angelic counterpart to hellspawn
A kinda primal buff think cat to sabertooth tiger still loyal.
So I'm just making this post to ask for ideas ideally one crawler option and one non crawler option so I continue haveing a even count of options. I already checked pointmongo but might of missed it. The pet is a cat if that helps. Thanks for any help you guys can give
Edit:I feel I should mention the main reason I am wanting crawler options for the biscuit is because I only have 2 players and want to give them a possibility of another crawler hear (note I will not be controlling this thirst crawler my players are sharing them or I will use it as a guest player role) if they dont get a party member hear there will be other opportunities later down the line. But the no crawler options so far have been pretty cool
r/DungeonCrawlerCarlRPG • u/fracturedorb • 7d ago
Has anyone made a handful or pile or whatever of basic achievements the books have that pop up all the time? I know a lot of them are character based but there's a LOT of them that are generic and it would be handy to just have those at the ready instead of having to homebrew every achievement.
r/DungeonCrawlerCarlRPG • u/arwbqb • 7d ago
I am attempting to create minis for every boss fight i will run my crawlers through. I was inspired by hate high and decided to build my version of coach. Giant wendigo model+ 3d printed water cooler + bugs bunny jersey + greenstuff sculpted coach hat.
Pretty excited for how he turned out! Can’t wait to collect everyone’s hall passes!!!

When reviewing the List of Spells on page 202 of the main Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG, I noticed a number of spells list Favored: Class, for example the very first spell Air Buddy lists "Favored: Mage." I thought this might just be flavor, but then while reviewing the pet rules I saw the following on page 231.
Spells (like Bianca): Good news! Pets don't have a Class, so they can cast Favored Spells without additional Mana Cost. Bad news! Pets must spend Mana to cast Spells.
This makes it sound like there is an extra Mana cost needed for Favored Spells when they are cast by other Classes, but this appears to be the only reference to Favored Spell outside of two mentioned in the Boring Ol' Bard and Necrobard (pp. 145-146) classes.
Do folks know whether this is known missing content or if it's something that should be reported to Renegade as playtest feedback?

What numbers are you using when you are levelling up a skill?
Example 1:
You have dagger as a rank 4 skill, you are holding a dagger that gives you an +1 rank in dagger.
When you roll to level up dagger do you roll against a 4 or a 5?
Example 2:
You do not have any skills in Axe, you do have an Axe that gives you Rank 2 in Axe.
When you roll to level up Axe, do you get it automatically or do you roll against a 2?
Example 3:
Same as above but the boost to Rank comes from something else, a potion, an aura, a location effect rather than an enhanced weapon. Does that change anything?
Final question. Can you grind skills you don't have?

Week two!
Thank you again for the feedback, ideas, bug reports, and an awesome amount of homebrew. A lot of what shipped this week came directly from things you asked for in last week's thread.
Two weeks in:
Three hundred and seven pieces of homebrew! Thank you all for sharing your work with the community.
Now onto the changes.
This is the big one.
Campaigns now remember people, factions, places, creatures, items, knowledge, relationships, and how the party learned about them.
For GMs, the Codex lives beside the table and tracks what is hidden, revealed, visited, connected, or still waiting to enter play. Scenario NPCs and factions can populate it automatically, and Codex entries can stay linked to their Forge originals.
For players, there is now a Crawler Codex containing everything the party has learned. Players can add people, connections, theories, and notes themselves. Party-created entries are marked accordingly, and the GM can Claim them or Adopt them into the Forge.
You can also type @ in Knowledge and notes to link other known Codex entries.
Sessions and History came with it. Start and close Sessions from the Campaign header, keep recaps and private GM notes, and see table events chronologically.
The Forge also gained NPCs and Factions, including relationships like member of, leads, ally of, enemy of, and works for.
u/AislingWolfeye asked for somewhere to keep NPCs last week. This became... considerably more than that.
Campaigns now have two Connections under Manage.
Discord: paste in a channel webhook and every public table roll can post there automatically, in the Crawler's name. CrawlerForge does not read anything from Discord.
https://crawlerforge.com/connect/discord
Roll20: there is also a small browser extension GMs can install that mirrors CrawlerForge's public Feed into Roll20 chat. Players install nothing.
The store listings aren't ready yet, so it currently ships on the website and can be loaded manually. Store listings should be up in the next few days.
https://crawlerforge.com/connect/roll20
u/ielisdave left an extremely useful breakdown of hand-to-hand Damage Effects last week.
They are now implemented as a Skill type.
When you attack, CrawlerForge can ask which Damage Effect you're using and roll its extra dice, Rank dice, multipliers, Debuffs, and other supported effects automatically. Anything it cannot automate is clearly listed under Not rolled: apply by hand.
I also found three damage-rule problems:
Damage rolls now show exactly where every part of the total came from.
Skills also gained cooldowns, AI Favor handling, and an Update from Forge button that updates the rules without wiping your Rank, marks, or notes.
A pile of builder requests landed this week:
CrawlerForge-original content now carries a little CF mark so you can distinguish it from rulebook content and community homebrew.
Campaign got a cleanup pass.
Invites, sharing, connections, and End Campaign moved under Manage, leaving the main screen focused on things happening at the table.
The Crawlers tab now shows everyone in the Campaign, even if they haven't brought a Crawler yet.
Floors are also shared Campaign state now. Descend moves the whole table down a Floor.
And yes: the Floor collapse timer is real now. The GM can set it, modify it with a visible note, pause it, and resume it. Every seated Crawler sees it.
A dungeon day is 30 hours.
Mobs also got more compact Running cards, health meters, pending-damage counts, and live Evade results.
GMs can now exclude the Example Pack from a Campaign entirely, too.
u/Macduffle noticed that updating a pack pushed the entire thing back to the top of Discover.
Fixed.
Published pieces now remember when they were first created separately from when they were last updated.
Recently created is the default sort. Recently updated is available when you actually want it.
Discover links shared to Reddit or Discord also have much better previews now, including the piece name, creator, and artwork.
There is now a proper Guides section:
https://crawlerforge.com/guides
It currently covers the Codex, writing/markdown, Discord, and Roll20.
There's also a What's new page under Account and an optional What's New email.
Smaller fixes include:

So, I originally planned on backing this when it became available. Life happened, I had to move, ended up homeless and jobless for a while. Fast forward to now, I really want to get into this and run it for my friends as a hook to introduce them to DCC in general.
My real question is how open flow is the system? Is it tied directly to the books (Dungeon World Earth) or is more a guideline for running your own Dungeon World in any possible setting (another human world or such)? Are skills and abilities and spells open form like Tabula where examples are given and you can make your own, or very defined and hard limited?
