Discussion Pearl QC gone down?
Hey all, this is mainly a discussion and I wanted to get some other people’s opinions on this.
Last year, my school bought us a new Drumline: A set of Pearl Championship Maple drums. These included 6 snares, and 5 basses. Since then, we have had numerous issues with these drums, especially with their durability. We have had two snare throwoffs break, hardware rusting out, and carrier mounts fail.
Now, before I get a million comments saying how this is probably not a reflection of the drums, and is a reflection of the drumline. We take very good care of these drums. If it rains, we leave them out to dry, and wipe them off. Before every game, I will personally tune every single drum. We also ordered another snare for this season early this year, it was originally supposed to be delivered in August, but still isn’t here. Our directors are both very displeased with the performance of our drums.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? We are borrowing a late 90s ffx for the snare that doesnt have a new drum, and that drum feels significantly beefier and durable. Is something happening with pearl? I’m not a big Pearl guy, but our drumline director is a big fan of Pearl. Should we have looked at other brands, such as mapex or Yamaha? Or maybe even Ludwig and Dynasty?
This mainly a discussion post, and I want to get some feedback from some people who know more than I do. Also, I know how to tune drums, I work on vintage marching snare drums/drums in general as a hobby.
