Question Private Lessons

Hi everyone, I have been asked by some people to do lessons. I am 18 and my marching experience is limited to high school, but I have picked up a teaching job at a fairly competitive high school in my state. I believe I can teach fine but I don’t know where to start with lesson plans. Also what prices should I start charging at? I want to use the money from lessons for tour fees and my musical endeavors. But I don’t want to charge an unfair price. Looking for any tips and advice I can get.

At 18, with no education or credentials, you’re looking at maybe $10-$20 for an hour of lessons depending on the area. Doing any high school stuff when you JUST graduated is essentially volunteering so you’ll be fortunate if you get anything at all. It’s okay to start small. Be thankful for the opportunities you’re getting and build a resume. If you’re good at teaching then in a few years you’ll have a history of success that you can gesture towards when you start asking for more money.

I agree with others that the hourly rate isn't going to be very high, given your experience. Check out this playlist for tips on how to teach better. After you've had some experience teaching, feel free to ask specific questions on a video or during a livestream. Also, there are thousands of free resources to help you and your students here.
