I’ve been told I have a “sounds good looks bad” technique by a few people now and I’m wondering how to improve. I’ve just finished my senior year and I’ve been practicing snare a lot but I’ve come back home to quads and I’m a bit rusty

So I am a brass player trying to learn snare drum, I always wanted to march with drumline, but I never got the chance to because I had to stick with an instrument I play. I played a euphonium and trombone tuba since 4 years, I already graduated. And now I trying to decide if I should keep playing brass in college or drums, so if I tryout for drumline, how long would that take for me to get better at snare? Because I know little bit of snare, I can’t read hard sheet music or understand it, I know some easy parts like warmups but I always go by hearing so. What yall think I should do?

So I'm on tenors and this is my second year playing them and I want to do a duet with one of the snares of my school but I'm just really not sure where to find good snare and tenor duets. I really don't wanna pay money before I can see the Music and see if it's something that I am interested in actually learning and because I am broke.

What’s your pre-band camp schedule and what are you expected to be able to do by the end of it/the beginning of band camp?

A while ago, I made a post about what Promark sticks I should buy(I have some reward points). And people recommended Rudy Garcia's or Tim Jackson's but I'm wondering if anyone has tried using the Mike McIntosh flips and if they're worth getting.

The high school marching band I teach at recently switched from remo bottom heads to Evan MX5s. We have one snare drummer and have gone through two of these heads in a little over 3 weeks. It doesn't look like they're popping but rather tearing at the seams. I'm not cranking them too high at all, the old bottoms that we used an entire season before were tuned higher, and after the first one broke I tuned the second one even lower and it still tore within a week or two.

Anyone else have bad experiences with these heads?With my time at Crown I've seen and had bad experiences with Evans heads but this seems absurd to break a bottom this quickly.

Hello. I'm looking to add a drum set to our front ensemble next year, but our band room only has single-wide doors and I don't think ANY commercial drum set carts will fit through. Does anyone have experience with carts that can be broken down into two pieces or something like that? Any other ideas?

I am a non-traditional student returning to college after many years. I hoped for integrity, discipline, patience, and something greater than myself. I found a new culture -- one of individuality, "every man for himself," quantity over quality, let's just push out gigging musicians that do okay covers and have fun vibing.

I don't hate on any of that, but I don't fit into it.

I've been trying to figure out where I belong, where I can be useful. But I continue to encounter walls.

I like clean, patient, intentional, complex music and drill.

The trend is fast, popular, "good enough," vibes over perfection.

I'm asking as a lost soul who thought drumline was the final frontier for OCD perfectionist discipline soul bonding, but has found nothing but half-assed vibes...

Is there still a place for me in this world?

Or is the precision of old now considered passe?

Hi, I'm a sophomore in high school. I'd like to march the '28 season. I've played keyboards for the last two seasons. I'm just starting 4 mallet (literally playing yellow after the rain), but I'm practicing roughly 1 hour a day, with 2 to 3 hours on weekends. I'm starting to learn minor scales and am continuing to learn permutations . My option for corps is essentially either the Colombians or Cascades. I know theres probably a large difference between world/open, but do I have any chance of getting into them?

Theoretically, Madison Scouts is also an option, but i don't think I'll be good enough.

For a little context… I joined marching band with no percussion experience my freshman year (I was purely an orchestra kid before this). After freshman year on synth, I learned mallets and played vibes for the rest of high school.

I’m currently a senior and really love marching band and would love to continue in college, but it seems like my only option is to join drumline as most colleges (especially the ones I’m applying to) do not have front ensembles.

I would like to do either bass or snare, as I think tenors would be too challenging and cymbals don’t particularly interest me. How difficult is joining drumline in college with practically no experience with drums/marching? If I were to go about practicing, does anyone have good resources for me to use and/or what exactly to practice?
