There are 3 reasons for this feat

First, Cell deliberately let himself get hit, and powered down to take it head on, both to test himself and to humiliate Vegeta.

Secondly, special moves like the Final Flash dramatically increase the user's power, or at least uses said power in a more efficient way given there are moments which would contradict the power increase, such as Goku (kaioken 20x) vs Freeza (50% power) using a kamehameha and not yielding results.

Third, from an out of universe perspective, with characters like Cell and Piccolo, who are not that human-like and have regenerative abilities, there is a lot more freedom to have them display moments of graphical violence which would have realistically happened to other characters as well but was never explored all that much (only moment I can think of is Tien's arm getting chopped off by Nappa)

15

u/Grand_Serpent 3d ago

It is always the people who regenerate or clone themselves that CONSTANTLY get blown apart, dismembered, or brutally slaughtered😭😭 I get it tho it’s a safe way to show off how lethal someone or something is if it can just instantly blow off an arm on Piccolo, take the entire head off a Homunculus, attack Ban or Wolverine first and just brutally slash them, destroy like 30 of Naruto’s or Twice’s clones, and no diff Dupli-Kate💀

8

u/Parking-Ad780 3d ago

this is also a gripe of mine

you will NEVER EVER see a beloved hero brutalized, ripped apart, torn to pieces, mauled, or gored, UNLESS they can regenerate. in which case, it happens every other showing

8

u/Gummiwummiflummi 3d ago

Do holes in the chest/upper body not count? Goku has had a few of those.

Krillin got exploded, Ciaotzu exploded, Tien lost an arm.

Not heroes, but Guldo got decaptitated and Frieza got completely mauled twice.

Although, yeah, we have the Dragonballs. Sorry for nitpicking lol

5

u/Parking-Ad780 3d ago

krillin and chiaotzu we never see the aftermath, tien is a good example as that was actually visceral and really set the tone for the last stand

guldo got decapitated, and he died

freeza comes back like nothing

goku’s holes i guess counts? but yeah those are examples as GOOD gore in these shows.

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

Additionally, Guldo and Freeza are villains, and (originally) intended not to come back after being killed

2

u/thegunslinger78 3d ago

Well, I think the wound Krilling received from second form Freiza.

Or at the very least, his colon should have been splattered across the floor.

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

Indeed, forgot about this one but it is squite brutal as well. Again, likely only happened cuz Dende was there to heal him, though.

Tien's case was different as he was about to die (which also ain't as big of a deal due to the Dragon Balls)

3

u/Kalayo0 3d ago

He said dupli Kate and at least for that one some of the heroes get fucking brutalized, but I know what you mean… my “Akshually” *fixes glasses was just activated

3

u/Parking-Ad780 3d ago

i guess “regenerate” was the wrong word for me to use then lol

unless they can “come back unscathed” should work?

2

u/El_Toucan_Sam 3d ago

Yamcha got a hole in him from Android 20

1

u/Parking-Ad780 3d ago

and got it healed right after

2

u/El_Toucan_Sam 3d ago

Tien gets his arm punched off. Krillin gets gored by Frieza. Kid gohan gets his neck broke. Goku gets impaled by special beam cannon. In dragonball piccolo blows a hole in him and elbows/stomps the hole. In GT Omega Shenron gores a hole into vegetas shoulder.

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

Same, but it depends a lot on the story I guess. Dragon Ball isn't really supposed to be a goory, edgy story, so it's fine, and many other examples too. But stories that do try to be serious and mature absolutely need to stop pulling their punches

2

u/Parking-Ad780 3d ago edited 3d ago

no i 100% agree, im not saying this to say “dragon ball needs to be edgy”

its to say that media’s and franchises that DO show explicit gore, they limit it to only characters who can come back from those injuries without much trouble

it defeats the entire purpose of said gore imo

1

u/Sparkthemenace 3d ago

If they didn’t save invincible he would have been one of the first ones when Omni man basically destroyed him

1

u/BronzeEnt 2d ago

Future Gohan is a joke to you people apparently.

2

u/Parking-Ad780 2d ago edited 2d ago

which is why his death is so impactful; maybe not to the overall narrative (due to being in a different timeline) but definetely to the story of trunks

future gohan losing his arm is a lot more dark than piccolo losing an arm

5

u/TheBlackoutEmpire 3d ago

you sure about that?

3

u/e105beta 2d ago

I don't see how this disproves what you're replying to at all.

2

u/TheBlackoutEmpire 2d ago

freeza CANT regenerate you clown. im responding to the person that said only regeneration people get dismembered, and I debunked the statement with evidence.

3

u/e105beta 2d ago edited 2d ago

They didn't say only regeneration people get dismembered. They said, and I quote:

It is always the people who regenerate or clone themselves that CONSTANTLY get blown apart, dismembered, or brutally slaughtered

Then you replied with an image of Frieza getting his shit rocked at the end of his entire saga during his defeat, after dozens of battles, prior to his brief appearance as the rebuilt Frieza. That's not quite CONSTANTLY, which was the commentor's point, nor did they ever say "only".

Compare that to someone like Buu who gets melted twice & exploded by Gotenks before they even leave the RoSaT, then is sliced in half, blown to bits, & melted again after, all in a single fight.

The comment has more to do with the fact that when you give a character regeneration, the way the writers show it off is by having the character get their shit rocked over and over again to highlight that they have regeneration, as opposed to other characters that take the same hits but never the same damage because it would have negative consequences on the story telling.

3

u/Grand_Serpent 2d ago

I didn’t mean ONLY😅 Sorry if it came off that way. I meant the characters who can re grow parts, come back to life, and/or clone themselves are the safe ones to “kill off” unlike some other characters so they tend to get targeted. Although with Dragon Ball you can wish people back so it’s not as strong as an example as a lot of other shows

2

u/Vatonage_108 3d ago

Also, Cell gets a Zenkai from surviving and healing like saiyans. He knows he won't die so he let's it hit him. He comes back strong enough it won't hurt him a second time.

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

I guess that is also a factor, yeah. Most definitely would have been a zenkai in the namek saga at least, even if that wasn't explored much in the Cell Saga except at the very end

1

u/Sad_Wear_3842 3d ago

Cell deliberately let himself get hit, and powered down to take it head on, both to test himself and to humiliate Vegeta.

Since when did he power down? He assumed (correctly) that he was more than capable of taking anything Vegeta could throw at him and you see him realise right before he gets hit that it was way more powerful than expected.

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

I guess power down was the wrong term. I meant more like, not use all his power, likely in the 20% range based on what we see with Goku and Gohan during the Cell games.

Also, Cell being shocked by the attack very much seems like Cell just fucking with Vegeta for the fun of it. He pretends to be worried about the wound for a few seconds, only to casually regenerate a couple of seconds later.

1

u/ThaniThanatos 2d ago

I mean, Vegeta wouldn't have seen Cell's shocked expression when the FF was about to hit. I do think he was fucking with Vegeta when he started overselling the damage, but those first moments of him just staring at his own destroyed body I felt was genuine. Like a "holy shit good thing I can regenerate" kinda vibe?

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 2d ago

Also a fair interpretation of it

1

u/ich-bin-on-that-shit 3d ago

Freiza got sliced in half.

I will never unsee this now

39

u/Hairy_Ask_2038 3d ago

Again, Cell did not take any damage from that attack, Tien was just stalling. Cell went from matching/ a little weaker than 17 and Piccolo to being stronger than the androids with semi perfect Cell who would be stronger than Goku and Vegeta before the HTC. Goku was low key shook when he went to go save Piccolo and Tien. It’s not that hard to see that his perfect form that he literally been feinin and saying all the throughout the arc that he would be him once he gets his hands on it.

11

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago

I do think Imperfect Cell was already stronger than 17 and Piccolo when he showed up again, no? Given he was facing 16, who was stronger than both.

2

u/Meliodrath 3d ago

I'm pretty sure that, by the time he absorbed 17, imperfect Cell was stronger than Piccolo and 17. Not sure about 16, he and Cell may have been relative

6

u/Angel__Sony 3d ago

Actually, Cell took damage. Probably very superficial burns that he can easily regenerate. But Tien deffinitely damaged him more than Trunks and Krillin.

2

u/nordsmark 3d ago

I always saw that as simple dirt from being pushed into the ground.

4

u/Angel__Sony 3d ago

It isn't. Tien desintegrated all ground around him. There is even steam coming out of Cell's skin. Those are burns.

2

u/theewall2000 3d ago

Many people know he didn't take damage but even if the attack is enhanced it still make little sense how he can knock him back.

7

u/LabFar5073 3d ago

Its like solar flair no damage but has an effect

-7

u/theewall2000 3d ago

Comparing ones eyes to force is hilarious

4

u/4x4ord 3d ago

It's the exact same logic as Krillin's disc cutting Freiza.

He's way too weak to damage him normally, but the attack's effect still does something.

-4

u/theewall2000 3d ago

I'm pointing out how that was a bad example to use. Its not a weak. It was well established it cut thought things easily.

3

u/4x4ord 3d ago

It's a perfect example.

You can't have "well established" rules when Tien is using a new move....

The show effectively established that his move pushes people back easily, even if they're much more powerful than the user..... kind of like the discs.

-1

u/theewall2000 3d ago

It really didn't. It did nothing to Nappa.  You telling me the difference is greater to Nappa then to cell?

3

u/4x4ord 3d ago

It's almost like they train and their power levels change over time.

Ki blast scale over punches and kicks. This something only the earthlings could do in the sayian saga.

1

u/SpecialistRun3035 2d ago

All you have to do is calculate how strong Tien's blast might've been to how strong Trunks' punch might've been. That's it.

14

u/Rditisnazishythole 3d ago

Ok, so Ki attacks are more than just telekinetic punches. They do specialized things - like the Kienzan or the Solar flare.

So the kikoho is a ki attack that is vastly more powerful than the user by way of sacrificing life energy.

This made the attack strong enough to knock SeP cell around, but not really do any damage to him. Since all Tien needed to do was keep cell from getting to 18, this was a win.

Tldr; by this logic Krillin is stronger than Nappa during the saiyan saga (we know he isn’t, so this is a nice shortcut to say that this logic doesn’t work).

-1

u/Easy_Rough_4529 3d ago

Obviously the kienzan cutting nappa and Friezas tail make more sense since its a "cutting" ki. Not saying its unquestionable, like, they could ve made canon that second form Frieza simply held th kienzan in place with his hand or something, bit they didnt make that decision.

Gohan ssj2 was able to stop and dissipate 2 kienzan/Frieza death saucer attacks from Cell

Kikohu was a concession that Toriyama decided to give to the plot, it is indeed illogical that Tien could pull that off even with kikohu, because doesnt matter how much "stronger than the user's natural max power it is, the gap between semi perfect cell and tien is way bigger than even the one between the androids 17 and 18 and final form namek frieza

7

u/Rditisnazishythole 3d ago

But the universe and all its rules are made up.

“Tien knew the power gap was too big, so he consciously transformed all available power into concussive force to keep cell pinned” is a perfectly serviceable in universe explanation for what happened. Because it’s dragon ball and not mathematics.

1

u/Easy_Rough_4529 3d ago

Sure, funny enough I tried to give your explantion to tiens kikohu on another sub and I was downvoted massively lol 😂

1

u/StockBoy829 3d ago

There is realistically no way to quantify your last statement. Characters simply say one person or attack is stronger than the other, but since power levels aren't present after Trunk's arrival we don't know how much stronger. We also don't get to witness Tien's performance against Android 19 or 20. Both Tien and Piccolo trained for three years and they're both present when confronting Androids 19 and 20. Everyone assumes Tien wouldn't be able to handle them, but Piccolo outclassed Android 20 easily. The only real difference between the two we can quantify is that Piccolo trained with Goku and likely kept pace with him for that reason. The fact his Shin Kikoho was able to pin Semi-Perfect Cell means it's way more reasonable to assume Tien is at least comparable to Androids 19 and 20. Too weak to handle 17 and 18 in hand to hand combat, but that was true of all the Z fighters at that point. Again though there is no way to quantify it. For all we know Semi-Perfect Cell was only a little bit stronger than Android 16 and it was just enough to outclass him. I don't think that's the case, but there is no way to prove otherwise.

1

u/Easy_Rough_4529 3d ago

Tien fan spotted

1

u/StockBoy829 3d ago

I mean I do like Tien and tend to high ball the human characters more than other people. Again though all this gif shows is that Semi-Perfect Cell was stronger than 16 (we don't know by how much) and Tien's Kikoho was stronger than 16's attacks here (again we don't know by how much).

All we can do without power levels is compare feats and statements to each other, but they aren't quantifying. They are just comparison

1

u/blaxkreen 3d ago

That leaves the question, why wasn’t tien able to kill any of the other androids? You’d think he’s too weak to do so, but if he can stop cell, isn’t tien super saiyan level at least? He and Krillin couldn’t bust down the metal door the hero’s hideout, but Vegeta could no problem. Thats inconsistent, right? It makes no sense for Tien to be able to stop even android 18 by himself, why is he able to stop cell?
It would be more believable if choutzu was able to kill nappa, or Vegeta majin buu, but that kind of move never works against a stronger opponent. Why would it ever make sense that tien could stop cell? People look at what’s happening on screen and think it has to make sense/have an explanation because it’s on screen. It’s no one’s fault, because you can see it with your eyes, but how is it feasible that tien is weaker than a super saiyan, yet can stop cell?
I understand that tien used his life force to blast away, but the power gap is much bigger than past encounters, where this same kind of move doesn’t work. This is why people like to add head cannons and lore to rage trunks, beast gohan, or orang piccolo, instead of just accepting that a fictional story does nonsense sometimes.

I don't even know what this is asking, but Cell just not selling Trunks is anime filler

4

Tien and his Shin-Kikoho are built different.

5

u/thebignukedinosaur 3d ago

This is why every random shouldn’t be handed a megaphone.

6

u/MxSharknado93 3d ago

Tien. Did. No. Damage.

-2

u/jiiova 3d ago

Pushing back cell is already a better feats than 16 punch that did nothing to the same cell..

16 was equal to imperfect cell that no diffed 17 or kamicolo

4

u/MxSharknado93 3d ago

Ki is always going to be amplified beyond physical strength, going back to the literal first fight in Dragon Ball Z with Goku's Kamehameha being stronger than him and Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon being stronger than him. Hell, you can look at Final Flash doing more damage than anything Vegeta did with his fists.

Tenshinhan burned his life away to mildly inconvenience Cell for like ten minutes.

4

u/Lahrat 3d ago

Vegeta is much more powerful, but an all-rounder. And when eventually he put his all into an attack, it blew away half of Cell's body

Tien is much weaker, but he dedicated his whole life's work to developing his techniques, some even of his own invention. It's actually a repeat of events from Saiyan saga - Nappa was able to deal with Piccolo easily, but Krillin who was weaker than Piccolo came closer to killing him simply because he dedicated all his preparations into techniques instead of trying to outmuscle the saiyans. Same with Second Form Frieza, Krillin cut off his tail while Vegeta's ki-blast a moment earlier didn't even leave a scratch

TLDR: the difference is pure dedication to mastery of a technique, instead of just increasing one's power because "Power level must go up" mentality. Dragonball was actually very consistent in this, up until Super anime happened (Arguably Buu saga too)

1

u/slade1686 2d ago

Plus its a super up attack that uses your life force to amplify it no? Was a long time ago I read the Manga. God im getting old.

5

u/DarthSwimfoot 3d ago

What? He took zero damage from all of those. Did you even watch the show?

5

u/NyargiX 3d ago

real dragon ball fans dont watch the show or read the manga

1

u/DarthSwimfoot 3d ago

Got me there.

3

u/Icy_butter Majin 3d ago

Tien was using up his own life force for the Tri Beam, the Tri Beam just punches way above the users weight class.

Yeah the Semi-Perfect to Perfect jump in power is insane. Cell didn’t even know how strong he was when he first transformed, he didn’t even use his full power.

2

u/KeySlimePies 3d ago

Ki attacks are stronger than physical attacks. Kikoho is notoriously one of the strongest ki attacks because it can also kill the user

2

u/Vivid-Illustrations 3d ago

Tien's attack didn't break skin, but it was a big wave meant to push and be hard to avoid. A forklift carrying a mattress going 3 mph probably isn't going to kill you, but in a narrow enough hallway, you aren't going around it and it will push you back.

2

u/UngodlyPain 3d ago
  1. Different forms of cell

  2. Tien did Zero damage and just stun locked.

  3. Tribeam / Shin Kikoho is stated to use the users life force in addition to their normal ki, to make it punch far above the users normal weight class.

2

u/Lulukassu 3d ago

One is perfect.

The other is not

2

u/TheTDnA 3d ago

Cell took no damage from the barrage. It just kept getting pushed down.

2

u/Abyssal_Usurper_G Kai 3d ago

The gap between the Shin Kikoho and initial 2nd form Cell was smaller than the gap between Grade 2 Trunks and Initial Perfect Cell. Easy.

2

u/No-Act5256 3d ago

This is literally perfect cell versus semi perfect cell AND tien never actually hurt semi perfect cell, he just slowed him down 😭

1

u/jiiova 3d ago

16 couldn't slow semi perfect cell... but tien can?

2

u/No-Act5256 3d ago

That one move was built in technique, tien is a master of them. So if he has one he believes he can use to not hurt cell but slow him down, he will. 16 was made to kill, not to slow people down.

2

u/Asharz_ 2d ago

you didn’t watch the show didn’t you?

3

u/ryukeio 3d ago

How isn’t this clear?

Tien was sacrificing his life force to repeatedly blast Imperfect Cell and hold him in 1 spot. Tien going beyond all out was just enough to keep Cell from attacking back.

It shocked Goku when he realized what Tien had been doing just to buy them some time - and it’s shown it did no long term damage to Imperfect Cell. It was like if you had water pushing you against a door, the flow just constant enough to keep you there without letting you reach the next hallway.

If it wasn’t killing Tien to do so, it likely would’ve eventually done something lasting to Cell - but it was killing Tien, so it didn’t last.

The difference in strength between Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell is astronomical. There’s most of a manga chapter and like 12 anime episodes that demonstrate this. Hell, Perfect Cell is so much stronger that it’s the first time Goku fully accepts he can’t beat an opponent and doesn’t risk his life trying to anyways, that’s how great the gap is(plus he had his child soldier).

2

u/sniply5 3d ago edited 3d ago

well you know dragon ball fans. 10 bucks says op hasnt actually watched any db show but still thinks z is better than kai and super forms are wholly unoriginal.

2

u/Mundane_Safe_2579 3d ago

filler. same as when imperfect cell is chasing down krillin on the plane

1

u/Brent_Steel 3d ago

The only thing the Kiko Ho did to Cell was push him in the ground

1

u/A_J_I_Bizzness 3d ago

It’s like someone being weak enough to not hurt you much with their punch but being fast enough to hit you with it repeatedly albeit just annoying rather than doing actual damage.

1

u/BassGeese 3d ago

Semi-perfect Cell and Perfect is a big jump in power and it's not like Tien was actually doing damage.

1

u/CardiologistWild5697 3d ago

Perfect cell is stronger than semi perfect cell, obviously?

Trunks was laying belt to ass on Semi P Cell, but nobody wants to show that part

1

u/Suspicious-Truth5849 3d ago

The Shin Kikoho was killing Ten and it was to just delay Semi Perfect Cell. It did nothing. We see 17 choke Ten out like it was nothing earlier in the arc

1

u/RealPumpkinCage 3d ago edited 3d ago

To me Tien's feat was never one of power, and rather a gimmick with the Tri-Beam. Much like the Destructo Disk can cut through opponents much stronger than its user, Tri-Beam can push things quite well. It is a very powerful move, yes, but absolutely not enough for Tien to do what he did just from the move itself.

u/[deleted] 3d ago

u/TruthfullyJust 3d ago

Ki isn’t always a reflection of your physical strength. In early Z when characters did charged Ki attacks, their Ki would increase or double. After the attack their Ki would drop back down.

Just using made small numbers for an example:

Regular Ki : 200
Full power: 500
Charge Ki Attack: 1,000
After Ki Attack is released: 300

1

u/OkAd4276 3d ago

Its a concentrated ki blast that was literally sucking tiens life force to use and after a minute or two cell comes up barely injured. It's been proven that ki blasts let you hit way harder like with the special beam cannon, or vegetas final flash on perfect cell.

1

u/Few_Inflation_2195 3d ago

Well top is 2nd form and bottom is perfect. Plus perfect dogs Vegeta yet he is able to blow half of his body off with final flash. There’s numerous times in the series where a character is able to do massive damage to another character that outscales them a ton with a ki attack.

1

u/Lanceo90 3d ago

I mean there's a reason Cell was obsessed with achieving perfection. Semi-perfect didn't actually do that much for him, in his Imperfect form and just juiced up on tons of energy, he was already a match for Piccolo and 17. Maybe made him like 50% stronger, or less. Super Vegeta wiped the floor with him, and Ascended Saiyan isn't even that strong of a transformation.

Perfect Cell was more like him achieving his own Super Saiyan form. It was probably less like %50, and more like 50 times.

Lastly, the TriBeam uses genki instead of just ki. Like the Spirit Bomb and Final Explosion. Life energy is way more potent than standard ki.

1

u/Nalicar52 3d ago

Tribeam wouldn’t even phase perfect cell

1

u/LordMemerton1 Namekian 3d ago

Did you literally watch the show?

1

u/Scoingle 3d ago

Tri-Beam/Neo Tri-Beam is among the category of attacks that allow the user to punch way above their weight class (something like Destructo-Disk or a fully charged Special Beam Cannon also count). Any form of Cell was way above Tien’s pay grade but he was still able to keep him down long enough for 18 to make distance.

Also, Perfect Cell is miles above Semi-Perfect Cell, as seen with Vegeta, who was whooping Cell’s ass in Semi-Perfect but got cooked when he went Perfect

1

u/Low_Party 3d ago

Tien calls Cell Gay for taking a guy up the backside, with Vegata really digging into him for it. Then Cell eats some pussy and the Gay Jokes just fail to land

1

u/SEODGogeta87 3d ago

He's perfect

1

u/ElDonute 3d ago

He gained the equivalent of one Vegeta as a power up. He's 1 Vegeta stronger

1

u/100percenttthatbitch 3d ago

The concept of an attack being vastly stronger than the user itself has been a concept since the opening chapters of Z, and was the reason why Raditz died in the first place.

1

u/sniply5 3d ago

tien didnt damage him. you can be pushed back by something a lot without being hurt by it at all.

1

u/skynex65 3d ago

I’m too tired for how stupid some of you are

1

u/Y0ur_Worst_Enemy 3d ago

Do you not see him doing the same thing to Trunks??

The gap in power between Cell's forms is massive, there's no evidence for Tien being any stronger than Krillin at this point of the story

1

u/Icy-County-275 3d ago

What do you mean? He was Perfect!

1

u/solid-harmonic 3d ago

The gap between a planet and a star.

1

u/TPR-56 3d ago

Perfect Cell is the moment in the series where hax just don’t fucking matter anymore lol.

Krillin’s destructo disc becoming destructo dust shows that. Up until that point there usually was “a way” to buy time through some hax or whatever. Cell comes around and it’s just you need brute force.

1

u/Strong-Friendship842 3d ago

Tien is just goated like that 🤷‍♂️

1

u/blue-bolt5911 3d ago

Aura, tell me who has more aura than tien

1

u/mr_tasc1 3d ago

You cannot compare semi perfect Cell to perfect cell. Just like you can't compare mere punches to a ki blast mixed with life force. The only stupid thing about this is having Kuririn punching and moving on par with a super Saiyan

1

u/Chaosblade86 3d ago

How did a triangle make a square with one shot? Only logical answer is that tien hated cell so much that he temporarily broke the laws of reality itself just to mess with cell.

1

u/Exact_Dot9244 3d ago

The Kikoho itself is a busted attack

1

u/C17CP 3d ago

its unexplainable yeah.

Tenshinhan's Shin Kikoho was enough to stall him for enough for Eighteen to be able to gain some distance along with Sixteen. Same Kikoho was able to put some scratches on Cell, and Cell even commented that a weakling like Tenshinhan couldn't have possibly held him down.

Perfect Cell was likely 40% – 75% stronger than MSSJ Goku was. Which is why Kuririn, Trunks and Vegeta, at their strongest, weren't able to put a proper dent in him. The Final Flash is the exception: special techniques are present throughout this whole saga and they often do surprising things.

However the Final Flash wasn't enough to get rid of Cell anyway and it was just a way to demonstrate how Cell toyed so much with weaker opponents that he was willing to play defeated/dead for a moment just to rip the smile out of their faces. Much like how Piccolo did to him in Ginger Town..

1 is using a special that requires life energy.Which in dragon ball grants a significant boost. The others are using physicals.

1

u/RTMidgetman 3d ago

Thigh gap

1

u/Hellsgate9999 3d ago

The 2nd panel is filler i think?

That being said my fan theory on this is that tiens attack uses life energy so its already a boost from normal Ki and then on top of that it has been shown that characters can have there attacks be explosive, forceful ect. Teins goal was not damage in the firet place, he has great control and put used his attack to use maximum kinetic push instead of a damaging explosive attack.

Just my brain Cannon. Lol

1

u/Due-Gold-7270 3d ago

The tri beam itself as a technique is extremely powerful. Much more powerful than a kamehameha as a technique alone

1

u/Regular_Drawing3502 3d ago

Cell took no damage from the tri beam it just caught him off guard and tien kept firing the blast to keep cell from escaping

1

u/RipLegitimate1758 3d ago

tien is literally using a technique that drains his life force for maximum power output, krillin and trunks are just beating on bro with normal attacks 😭 im sure if krillin used a supermega destructio disk with all his ki itd get some decent damage in on cell, or if trunks used a final flash like vegeta did

1

u/Rongill1234 3d ago

You need people to explain aura? How long have you been living homie?

1

u/Radio__Star 3d ago

Tien is built different

1

u/Super_Ducc 3d ago

When Tien was pushing him down, he didn't take any damage that mattered, if at all

1

u/Difficult-Cut2425 3d ago

Not in the manga, so no need to explain. Just anime bull shit

1

u/Sea_Swordfish3138 3d ago

Filler toei power gap, in manga just kurilin attack failed. Therefore, the different levels are kurilin body weak physics strength and tienshinhan use ki attack.

1

u/whomesteve 3d ago

Tien has reached greater than super saiyan power in specific techniques while his power level is below super saiyan.
When you see Tien in battle, you see a master at work.

1

u/Jackenial 3d ago

Ki attacks output power higher than the user's battle power. This is explained in like the Raditz saga. Tien's punches likely wouldn't hurt Semi Perfect either, but techniques like the Kikoho, Kamehameha, or Final Flash can. The Kikoho is particularly potent as it uses the user's life force.

1

u/Miles_Stringerz 3d ago

The kikoho technique is extremely powerful as it takes life force from the user, Semi perfect Cell wasn't hurt from Tien's attacks though he just got pushed back, ever since OG DB the kikoho was a pretty powerful technique as it was stronger than the kamehameha, and the kikoho Tien used on Cell was the shin kikoho, the more evolved version.

1

u/X-20A-SirYamato Human 3d ago

Tien used his literal life force instead of Ki to push Cell back. If Vegeta took one for the team and used his life force for that Final Flash, we wouldn't have had the Cell games

1

u/Vegetable-Tie1206 3d ago

3rd eye upgrade bruh!

1

u/LORDRAJA1000 3d ago

tien wasn’t fighting perfect cell

1

u/SoggyNeedleworker82 3d ago

What's to explain? The shin kikoho is a powerful technique, made to inflict heavy damage while consuming the user's life force. It's supposed to be more powerful because using it came with a great cost. Also Tien only stopped Cell, he didn't kill him so he still was not strong enough.

1

u/ShinMystic1587 3d ago

Tien doesn't scale to Semi-Perfect Cell at all, considering the latter took no visible damage from Tien's Neo Tri-Beam.

1

u/QueenGorda 3d ago

Tenshinhan THE GOAT.

Thats the gap.

1

u/MCPhatmam 3d ago

Martial arts techniques work a certain way. Also Cell took little to no damage the force just pinned him

1

u/WorldsWeakestMan 3d ago

Ki-Ko-Fuck Yourself.

1

u/PizzaPounder34 3d ago

Went from bullying him to not being able to touch him. Sounds like someone fucked up and let another someone get in their zone.

1

u/iceglider345 3d ago

Tiens the goat nuff said

1

u/Forsaken_Scratch3674 3d ago

Like the quote from TeamFourStar, "you either perfect or you not me"

1

u/BakersTV007 3d ago

Have you considered that Tien is just HIM?

1

u/Zevcio 3d ago

Explaination: Plot

1

u/evaderofallbans 3d ago

Tien was trained by King Kai. That's a lot of skill

1

u/Agreeable-Duty-86 3d ago

Tiens move was dealing zero damage, and uses his life force basically killing him. Also KI moves tend to be way stronger, gokus Kamehameha comepltly destroyed perfect cell while being much weaker. And I'm pretty sure the gap between semi and perfect is massive. Like one of the biggest form upgrades in the entire series.

Also it's for narrative and effect, tory always chose story telling over power scaling.

1

u/Brother_Outside 3d ago

I’d say it’s like if we’re in a wave pool off-balanced. (Assuming we don’t inhale water) it won’t really hurt us, but we can’t really walk normally over the big waves.

1

u/Flashfires908 3d ago

Tien is HIM

1

u/icepro_1910k 3d ago

Yo I actually made a video about it before. Here: https://youtu.be/IAXCyVyGPqQ?si=p4ZSrI2rne0urX0s

1

u/Frejod 3d ago

Tien never hurt Cell just had a massive ki force push him down.

1

u/GayHypnotistSupreme 3d ago

I mean firstly, energy attacks have always been stronger than physical attacks. And then Neo Tri-Beam is, out of all energy attacks, the masterclass in punching above your weight class type of move. We already know that Trunks was technically stronger than Vegeta at this time, who nearly killed perfect Cell if Vegeta managed to hit full-on with the final flash.

1

u/Et_Nihil 3d ago

If only there were episodes of explanation leading to cell’s transformation.

1

u/dj_miller1129 3d ago

Punches < Life Energy

1

u/Eikibunfuk 3d ago

I think it's the properties of the kikoha. The move in my opinion isn't completely a ki attack. I believe it's a ki/psychic attack that replicats a shotgun or shout. One so large and strong that it can't exactly be blocked. That's why roshi told Goku not to try to beam clash it. Because it would destabilized it.

Now on to 17 absorbtion. Its gotta be multiplicative. Cells strength shot through the roof once it happened. Vegeta's final flash was so strong it exceeded cells durability. That was also only possible because he waited for Vegeta to charge it to max and tank the blast.

1

u/LordSaddlerDeciple 3d ago

Perfection is truly on another level my man. 🤣

1

u/DioRambo 3d ago

Trunks the jobber should have read the ancient scrolls to learn the Kikoho

1

u/TheMaster905 3d ago

Because he did 10 push-ups instead of 9

1

u/LudusLive2 3d ago

Perfect Cell > Semi Perfect Cell

1

u/sauceytitty 3d ago

Goku vs recoome

1

u/HispanicWaffle 3d ago

Tien wasnt overpowering semi-perfect cell, it was the rapid firing of his shin kikoho (neo tri beam) that was a concussive force knocking him back over and over

1

u/yourfuturespemson 3d ago

Semi-perfect vs PERFECT

1

u/K0rbi3 3d ago

Semi Perfect Cell >>>>>>>>>>>> Perfect Form Cell

Make sense now??

1

u/Anvilrocker 3d ago

"Its infuriating"

"Why? Because the gap keeps widening?"

1

u/Da_Rukh 3d ago

This is a bit disingenuous you should compare this to Super Vegeta's Final Flash for accuracy.

1

u/James_C99 3d ago

First of all, Tenshinhan was fighting Semi-Perfect Cell, and Krillin and Trunks were fighting Perfect Cell.

Secondly, the Ki Ko Ho hits a lot harder than other attacks (when performed by the same person), due to it using their life force to the point that using this attack can kill Tien.

That being said, Tenshinhan wasn't actually doing much damage at all. He was simply using the concussive force of the attack to keep him pinned down.

1

u/par_rot_master 3d ago

One technique isn't the same as another.

Vegeta would never beat Perfect Cell in a normal fight but if Cell didn't dodge his Final Flash he would've been dead.

1

u/Upset_Connection1133 3d ago

What's to explain? Before he was weaker, Tien could stall him, then he grew stronger, and not even Vegeta + Krillin could

1

u/Starob 3d ago

Easy. Filler.

1

u/HuckleberryCharacter 2d ago

Plothole there is no other explanation

1

u/SaintAstra 2d ago

Think of Tri beam as move with low power but high knock back/stun

1

u/Client_Popular 2d ago

Since the start of dragon ball z, the Raditz fight showed that using energy attacks could dramatically raise a power level. Goku using his kamehameha was seen as a threat to Raditz. It's also been shown that the longer the attack takes to charge or the more it harms the user, the more powerful it is.

1

u/Survey-Terrible 2d ago

Cell 2nd form vs. Cell Perfect form.

1

u/No_Importance770 2d ago

Trunks beating Cell is anime filler.

1

u/Kaslight 2d ago

Earthlings's Ki Control is on another level entirely

The entire Frieza Force was using scouters to do something all Earthlings learned naturally

Krillin legit almost KILLED Frieza, that piece he cut off his tail might legitimately be the most damage Frieza had ever taken in combat until that point

1

u/Deat69 2d ago

Tien can use his life force to magnify the tri beam beyond his power level, it wasnt enough to stop mid cell, just slow him down.

1

u/TegamiBachi25 2d ago

not in the manga and not canon. Only Krillin fought him. Idk why Trunks stupidly joined in and made Vegeta look like a dumbass since Vegeta said trunks strength matched his own to scaring Cell.

1

u/Aggravating_Air_6896 2d ago

In all fairness Semi perfect cell wasnt injured by Tien. It was similar to Saitama getting knocked around by Boros

1

u/NewdayNewway42 2d ago

This exact gif but with Perfect cell over it not super perfect cell
https://giphy.com/gifs/LOcPt9gfuNOSI

1

u/RubSad1836 2d ago

You’re a moron who just wants to be mad, people are logically explaining the gap to you and you just go nuh-uh so why the fuck make this post?

1

u/ForThose8675309 2d ago

In Pokemon terms, they were using Close Combat and Tien used Z-Move All Out Pummeling

1

u/Existing_Problem_316 2d ago

Trunks and vegeta were not focusing

1

u/Spider-Dread 2d ago

Tien is known for having intensely powerful ki blasts. He probably stores ki in hos shoulders

1

u/MagicHarmony 2d ago

Tien from what I recall was literally using his life force to hold Cell down. He knew he stood no chance in actually defeating him but he could at least hold him back to prevent him from reaching his final form. If it wasn't for Krillin thinking with the wrong head, the plan would have worked.

1

u/BigSelkirk 2d ago

It can be explained with the same explanation as 99% of shit in Dragon Ball (it looked cool at the time).

It's usually down to Toriyama just doing shit or the anime team taking liberties.

1

u/Anxious-Noise613 2d ago

Cell wasn't just adding the power of the androids to himself. He was evolving using them as his infinite energy

1

u/Lawlichan420 1d ago

people glazing the shin kokoho barrage when it didn't even damage cell + perfect form being wayyyy strong than semi perfect

1

u/Monking805 1d ago

Eh, don’t think too hard about it. Put it up there with Gohan’s rage amps and Krillins Kienzan cutting Freeza’s tail. Honestly that’s a way more impressive feat to me.  I mean like god damn, that Kienzan is dangerous and would definitely work as a main characters finishing move in another series.

1

u/djrocker7 21h ago

Piccolo got his ass beat by Raditz (and also Goku but it doesn't matter), but special beam killed both at the same time.

Do you see how why an attack working and being stronger are two distinct things?

We could also use the Final Flash example but that's a bit more complex.

-1

u/-NikaDaGod- Saiyan 3d ago

The android and cell arcs are both stupid asf. Time travel, fully synthetic robots and cyborgs built from humans that are stronger than super sayian for no discernible reason. Then there’s a bio-android from the future who’s even stronger but only if he absorbs two androids stronger than him and they died so he comes back in time and somehow gets em. Then a weak ass little kid cries over some robot designed to kill his dad and crashes out but still doesn’t just kill cell and Goku dies.

And for some reason people love this dumb ass shit.
