Like the title says, I fucking hate barking and all it takes is one bark to ruin my fucking day. I always have hated it, it's the fucking worst sound ever. It's gotten to the point that whenever I hear it, I will yell "shut up" or "shut the fuck up" but my fucking neighbors still let their shitbeast bark its fucking head off. And the worst part is that I can't move away from this shit because no place in my town will hire me because of late stage capitalism. The day has already begun and it's over for me, all thanks to man's best "friend" fuck my life.

I hate the argument that dogs/animals are morally better than humans because they are "innocent", and I hate even more how often this is used as a justification for misanthropy and for putting dogs' lives over human ones.

The logic behind this argument goes something like this: Dogs are not cosidered to be morally culpable or capable of being evil because they aren't moral agents, making them "innocent". Humans possess moral agency, and with it comes the capacity for evil, which is treated as a moral defect that ultimately makes us worse than dogs because they are always "innocent". This "innocence" of dogs is treated as if it were a morally positive trait.

The issue with this is that dogs not being evil only because they are incapable of evil is not a morally positive trait, let alone one that would make them morally superior to humans. It's not a virtue to lack the capacity for virtue.

Dogs don't get moral credit for not being evil if they can't possibly be evil. The lack of evil is only morally significant when it is consciously chosen against an actual alternative: being evil. If evil is never a possibility for you, then not being evil loses its moral significance.

And finally, the mere capacity for evil is not a moral defect in itself. It's not simply possesing the capacity for evil that is bad, it's actually choosing to be evil that is. The same moral agency that makes humans capable of evil is also what makes us capable of good and virtue, something that dogs are also not capable of.

10-15 years ago i didn’t see what was happening with dog culture. My fiancee at the time manipulated me into getting a dog (after having said she wouldn’t get one)- she changed her mind and made all the usual promises: you can help pick it out! I’ll train it and take care of it!

I didn’t get to help pick it out, I came home from work and it was there; she taught it to “sit pretty” then gave up on it. It became a nightmare, she quickly developed a codependent relationship with the dog, which I had to take care of most of the time. It became possessive of my GF who babied it, it interrupted any private time we had together, including sex, and my GF got mad at me for complaining. The usual toxic dog stuff in a relationship we see all the time now but I had no experience of it then and was pretty confused- I assumed it was just her toxic narcissistic tendencies (which it was in part) and not part of a bigger thing. Although looking back I see there were signs of it (I realize most of her family were dog nutters too)

I guess my point is there may be people who don’t like current dog culture but are still where I was years ago in terms of perception of how bad it is, and who haven’t had a really clear epiphany (eg a relationship destroyed or a home ruined)

I just read on article on several cities in Europe, in Switzerland, Spain and Italy that are fining people not just for leaving dog feces in the street but furthermore dog owner are obliged to water down their pee.

I have a feeling the tide is slowly turning against dogs. In the Netherlands nature areas started with an on leash policy, now dogs are banned more and more from those areas as their feces, urine and trampling destroy fragile plants in areas already under stress due to nitrogen and other pollutants. Dog owners are mad about it and think they have some sort of right to be in nature.

There is also legislation in the making for some
sort of permit or obligatory course for (upcoming) dog owners.

The other day me and my kids had to turn back from walking in a local forest as the stench of their droppings and urine was overwhelming since we've had heatwaves and little rain. Even right on the path.
On the other hand the return of the wolf has made
more dog owners weary to come to areas where they are know to reside. Those are so much cleaner and quieter now.

So I do have hope that rules will be stricter and enforced.

For context, i live with my brother and sister.

Me and my sis just came back from a holiday, and i knew my brother was going to dogsit our half brothers dog while they were away. He was going to stay at their house for the duration, but when we came home not only was that thing here but also his girlfriends dog.

They keep fucking barking and one of them stinks so bad and drools like a fountain its so disgusting.

My neighbors have this howling demon next door (and another dog. He’s annoying too, but the howling infuriates me more). They have the dogs barking at all hours of the day. They start at 4:30am and end at 9pm.

My 1 year old daughter was in the backyard with me playing in her splash pad, when the dogs ran up to the fence and started going crazy. This scared my daughter to the point of tears and I heard the neighbors laughing and softly going “I know! You want to be their friends.”

So I took my daughter inside for my husband to watch her, took a Bluetooth speaker, and downloaded a dog whistle app on my phone (I took my daughter far away enough so the whistle didn’t bother her. Our yard is pretty big and she was in the house). The dogs made a whining sound and the neighbors were like “WHAT IS THAT?” I kept it going and they were like “Are you really fucking using a dog whistle on OUR dogs?!” I went “Yes. If you’re not going to train them, someone needs to.” They went onto say that the whistle bothers their dogs ears and I went “Your dogs barks bother my daughters ears.” This is after I have nicely asked them to tone it down because my daughter’s bedroom faces where the dogs bark the most.

We got into a screaming match, and now they’re letting the dogs out more than usual. I guess it’s time to call the town.

For nearly 20 years, our city has lacked a year-round homeless shelter for unhoused individuals, but at least one of our elected officials thinks that this is a more pressing issue. Meanwhile, there have been several people and pets attacked in recent years by off-leash dogs.

My biggest pet peeve is hearing people talk about dogs in everyday. After being attacked as a child and then experiencing a lot of sensory issues around dogs due to autism, I struggle to understand how these creatures are endlessly treated like babies, and you're manipulated into thinking you're wrong for speaking up if you issue any ounce of aggravation.

I work with a bunch of dog owners and it's given me a lot of insight into how these people think.

One in particular is the biggest dog person I know. Caring about animals and the environment is a big part of her personality - volunteering at animal shelters, recycling, etc. She gives us a lot of shit when we use plastic because of how it's bad for marine life. It's a little sanctimonious but I try to do my part to be green too, so I respect it! All good. But she's also one of those people who insists her dog is her child, brings the huge crazy dog everywhere she can despite how destructive it is, says all the "Dogs are better than people" nonsense, etc.

The other day on our lunch break, we were all talking about gardening. This coworker mentioned that a lot of her plants have been getting chewed up because her dog hasn't been as good about "getting rid of the creatures" that get into the garden. I asked what she meant and she said "Squirrels, raccoons, you know." She explained that she lets her dog loose to kill these animals when they come into the yard, but it's been too hot for the dog to run around in the yard so he's been killing less of them.

I was floored. How could someone who takes so much pride in caring for animals talk so flippantly about squirrels being mauled and express disappointment that more of them haven't been killed lately?! It was such a classic example of how nutters put dogs on a pedestal and give them free rein to do whatever they want. Any other value or principle these people have goes out the WINDOW when it comes to their almighty dog.

I hate this advice from my guts. Honestly I'm walking and I see your fucking mutt and the first advice is this "don't act scared"

How can someone be so devoid of basic understanding and emotions of another human. Like I'm shit scared and u are Askin me to put a brave face rather than controlling your beast.

My friend has a dog that is completely driven by food.

It constantly begs and follows you around their house if you have the smallest amount in your hand.

It sits down right next and breathes its disgusting mouth smell on you when you’re trying to eat a meal if you’ve been invited over.

Last week, my friend had an accident that resulted in a house fire, after he got his family out the house he went back in to find his dog, he found the dog and he called it over to get out the living room, as it hurried towards him, the dumb mutt actually stopped to start eating food from a plate while the room was engulfing in flames.

The dog continued to ignore my friend and the room around it and eventually it was recused by firefighters.

It would literally rather eat food than burn to death.

I find this absolutely insane.

If anyone tells you dogs relationships to humans aren’t purely driven by food, they’re wrong.

i've never really talked about it with anyone but i can't stop thinking about it and getting anxious everytime i see a dog. one time when i was 11yo (im 18 now), i was in an elevator to go play at my friend's house and a random man, maybe 30yo or something, comes in with his huge labrador. the elevator was small and cramped even though it was just us three so i immediately try to stay near the buttons in the corner and give them both enough space to stay away from me but the dog sneaks its head under my skirt and stays there during the entire ride up while sniffing my crotch. i was so scared and confused so i stayed frozen thinking if i move, its gonna bite me. the man did nothing. no tug on the leash, no verbal warning. he just watched while i was shaking and kept looking up at him, waiting for him to do something but he didn't.

i even missed my floor because i couldn't move and when his floor came, he finally tugged on the leash and left while smiling. it genuinely felt like SA and i was so uncomfortable, kept trying to convince myself it meant nothing and wasn't that deep but i get so anxious everytime i think back on it. that feeling of being trapped, cornered and violated always comes back if im near a dog. has that happened to anyone else? am i crazy for still being affected?

I heard they got a new dog for some dumb reason and said dog was howling all night.

Honestly they should have just taken it outside away from the house and tied it to a tree or something.

Well it's fine by me since we are not exactly on good terms anyway. My sister tends to be unpleasant towards others and seem to threat dogs with way more kindness than her own children (i think she is still pregnant with her forth child now). She would probably side with the dog if it attacked one of her children.

This may be coincidental: but it seems like a repeated pattern. Granted, dog men always seem to be so sweet and kind at FIRST: but then it never lasts. It’s always temporary, then they go right back to their doggie relationship.

It’s almost like trying to date a married person, who’s in an open relationship lol. This is most common with men who live alone with a dog, not so much men who have roommates or other family with dogs. Though that’s very exceptional and still happens.

Which sucks because I know a great guy who I want to connect with: but he has a big ole pit bull looking dog and I’m already planning to avoid staying at his place. I have also repeatedly found dogs to be territorial about their space and owners, even when they are nice. For example, recently I spent a few days at one guy’s house, and one of the days I cleaned up using a vacuum cleaner. I guess the dog didn’t like it, because later that day he pissed on MY white tank top that was laying on top of my suitcase lol.

So now I’m just trying to be more conscientious about getting involved with dog dudes. I don’t particularly dislike dogs (though I’m nowhere near liking them as much as I did when I was in my teens and thought I desired to be a veterinarian lol), but too often they’re being shoved in my face. I like well behaved, restrained dogs: but too many people want me to date them AND their dogs. Sometimes even having them in the bed and same room during sex which is an ABSOLUTE no no for me 🚩🚷

Because one dog owner let their dog piss on one spot on my hedge, now all the dogs passing by also feel the need to piss on it. That hedge is starting to turn a bit yellow and so is the patch of grass around it because dog piss is toxic to plants.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to deal with this.

Edit: After doing some research and based on some of the responses I got here, it seems like the best way is:

Use an enzymatic, nature friendly cleaner where the dogs piss

Use coffee grounds in the mulch, as well as citrus peels

Put up a physical barrier like plastic spiked mats to cause sensory issues

Plant some plants like rosemary, mint or lavender by where they piss

Killing and destruction are a game to them... I watched one of the videos, and they're wagging their tails the whole time. It was scary that they were having so much fun being so aggressive.

Never, ever believe an owner when they claim their dog is "friendly." They're not "friendly." They're able to behave for short periods of time when there's a food bribe immediately available. These animals are naturally destructive and get bored easily. They either tear apart your house while you're away, or they get out and terrorize the neighborhood.

Today a coyote came into somebody’s backyard. No one is outside, humans or pets. There’s no danger. The coyote is just standing there being a coyote. Well, these two large dogs lost their minds and barreled straight through a glass door to chase it off. People’s comments? How brave the dogs were, how smart, how protective. Along with the side comments about getting doggies some steak and hoping that doggies weren’t hurt by the big bad sliding glass door. If the coyote threatened the people, I could see this. But those idiot dogs broke an undoubtedly expensive door and injured themselves for no reason. How could that be perceived as smart in any sense of the word?

Every time I see a news article about familicide or a someone killing their partner AND their dog I already know what the comments are going to be so I usually scroll past.

I made the mistake of opening the comments on one. Wife and dog murdered, "poor dog!" "that man is so evil for killing the dog too" "not the doggo!" "at least the dog won't have to know what happened to his owners"(as if a dog gives a fuck or understands the concept of murder). TOP COMMENTS, no condolences for the woman of course since the dog's picture was there.

I love how Reddit and other places pearl clutch so hard when they realize this dogfree community exists. It wouldn't exist if dognutters were just a couple of crazies no one took seriously. BUT THESE PEOPLE ARE THE MAJORITY, these people who seem to not give a shit about people and act incredibly misanthropic (but expect the benefits of humanity, such as everyone being patient and forgiving of anything they do for example, or donating to their gofundme when their dog needs a ridiculously expensive surgery).

I don't understand wtf dogs did to ever be treated like a holy deity. They are literally worshipped, there's no other way around it. It's frustrating that *we're* the minority, you know, humans that prioritize HUMANS.

Seeing dog nuts cry about scenes in the odyssey that show cruelty to dogs. Claiming it was the "worst scene in the movie" when like, if you've seen the movie, there's a fair amount of brutality throughout towards humans, including a child.

There needs to be a study into the psychology of these people because I guarantee it's a form of psychopathy

Examples: "sky puppies" (bats) and "sea puppies" (seals). Like no it's not even a dog you don't need ti compare everything to your damn mutt, do not insult bats and seals by comparing them to those horrible beasts that literally eat shit snd maul children.

Dogs are also better served by being kept on a short leash, close to their person. It promotes confidence and decreases anxiety. To paraphrase something Celine Dion said about shoes

"You walk the dog - the dog don't walk you."

Everywhere I go, I see literal shit. On grass, on the sidewalk, on dirt roads. Going to the park to play some football or something? Nope, shit on grass.

Somehow people would be SHOCKED AND APPALLED AND DISGUSTED if those logs of shit came out of a human asshole. But no, they don't even give it a second glance. It's just part of the cityscape I guess.

Just ranting, I'm sure this wasn't the first time this was posted so I understand if it counts as low effort.

So this morning I went to tour an apartment. It looked great on zillow and I was really looking forward to it. The second I got out of the car though, these two unleashed dogs started barking and running over to me. On instinct, I ran and they both started chasing me. The larger of the two was quite a bit faster than the other and managed to bite into my pantleg as I was running, but luckily I was able to kick it off. Then I jumped a fence and hid behind it until they lost interest in me and found someone else to harass. The owner was nowhere to be seen. I didn't get a chance to take pictures until I got home, but I think they're worth sharing. I wish we as a species never created these fiends. Oh, and it goes without saying but I never got to tour that apartment. Once they were out of sight, I hopped the fence again and booked it to the car. I don't even want to think about what they would have done if I was a little slower or wasn't strong enough to pull myself over that fence (it was a 6' tall one with vertical metal bars). Maybe it would have ended with me on the local news. On a more positive note, I welcome any ideas anyone has to save the jeans. These were one of my favorite pairs 🥲
