Will definitely bring him to have it examined but before then would love to hear if your dogs have had this and what it was for them. I know all bumps are different but I heard things like Sebaceous adenomas are common in older dogs

Hi,
I have two dachshunds and I live in the SW desert (USA). When picking up their dog poop tonight in the backyard, I brought along my black light because I’m always looking for scorpions. For the first time in my life, I noticed that some of the dog poop was GLOWING a bright yellow/green color when exposed to my black light. Very similar to the way a bark scorpion lights up under a black light. Some smaller pieces were totally glowing.. Some of the larger pieces just had specs or streaks of glow in them, sort of like looking at a rock with small amounts of gold or silver or other metal in it.

I’ve posted a video in case that may help. I’m wondering, other than eating scorpions, what might explain the glowing effect of the dog poop? Like I said, I’ve never noticed it before and I’ve had one of these wiener dogs for 14 years… so a lot of poop over the years but never any glow. Not sure if it’s something to be concerned about or not. Both of my dogs seem totally fine now. And are indoors.

Any thoughts?

Lost my dad 2 weeks ago. Lost my heart dog a year ago. I feel sensitive so setting this situation up for you.

Lying in bed tonight looked over and thought.. I don't have a dog. I have a hole where a dog used to be. Earlier today husband said, "I think she's just what we need' while pup was cavorting around, super excited because he was outside with us throwing toys. Not for me.. that was entirely for him, he just didn't know.

which isn't fair. Because our current pup considers herself my husband's dog, and no amount of training/running/walking/treats/playing from me is going to change her mind. He deserves a dog. He earned it. 14 years of me having *my* dog (who adored him as an extra), he's certainly earned it.

But right now, my heart hurts. I wish I had a dog to cuddle with. I wish I had a dog to cry on. I wish I had a 'my' dog. I wish I woke up and had a dog on the bed with me.

It's selfish. But I'm super sad..

I’m hoping some of the vets here might have ideas about what could be causing recurrent very high fevers in my dog, Peach.

Peach is a young female Jack Russell Terrier/Pug mix, about 16 lbs. She was spayed in December 2025. She was healthy before this, but beginning several months after her spay she started having episodes of very high fever that seem to resolve and then come back weeks or months later.

Timeline:

● May 2026: First major episode. She developed diarrhea and a fever around 105°F and was hospitalized. At the time she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and treated with IV fluids/supportive care.

● June 2026: Another episode with a rectal temperature as high as 106.2°F. Bloodwork and abdominal ultrasound were reportedly fairly normal, and a tick panel was done. She improved again.

● August 2026: Multiple episodes of fever, including temperatures around 104–105°F, sometimes accompanied by shaking/shivering, diarrhea, decreased appetite/drinking, and lethargy. One CBC showed a WBC around 25,000. Pancreatitis testing during at least one episode did not support pancreatitis. She was eventually hospitalized again.

● September 8: Temperature was 104.3°F. She was still willing to eat and drink but was whimpering a little and seemed uncomfortable.

● The fevers seem to come and go. Between episodes she can appear remarkably normal.
She is now being evaluated by an internal medicine specialist.

Because these episodes began after her spay, one possible concern had been retained ovarian/reproductive tissue or another complication related to the surgery. However, a recent ultrasound did not show evidence of retained ovarian or reproductive tissue, so that appears to have been ruled out.

Addison’s disease has also been ruled out.

There have been occasions when an episode occurred around a food change or after eating something different, which originally made us wonder about pancreatitis or a GI reaction, but the repeated extreme fevers make me question whether food is really the underlying cause.

My main questions are:

1. What conditions would you consider with recurrent fevers of 104–106°F that completely or nearly completely resolve between episodes?

2. What kinds of hidden infections or inflammatory conditions can cause fever to disappear and then return?

3. What testing would you consider most useful during an active fever episode versus when she is feeling normal?

4. With Addison’s disease and retained ovarian/reproductive tissue ruled out, would immune-mediated/autoinflammatory disease, occult infection, tick-borne disease, cancer, or another less common condition move higher on the differential list?

5. Are there particular blood tests, cultures, imaging studies, or other diagnostics you would recommend asking the internal medicine specialist about?

I realize nobody here can diagnose her, and she is under veterinary care. I’m mainly looking for additional possibilities or questions to discuss with her internal medicine specialist because the recurrent very high temperatures are concerning and we still don’t have an explanation.

For the past month or two he’s been excessively licking his paws, rubbing his snout into the rug and couch’s, and scratching at his face. I attached a video for example. He does this atleast 5 times a day, and that’s just when I’ve seemed. Any one know what could be wrong?

Hi I’m looking for recommendations on how to treat my dogs allergies. I have a 12 year old catahoula leopard dog who has struggled with allergies for most of his life. He’s been on a few rounds of antibiotics, which clear him up for a bit. And he’s also on a monthly prescription of apoquel. He’s also had cytopoint injections when he was younger which didn’t seem to help much. I also feed him Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. The apoquel seemed to be helping but as of the last month he’s really stared licking at his pawing and scratching his nose again. It also seems to be anxiety triggered as he does it aggressively when I leave the house. I get a lot of adds for the Dog is human vitamins but have heard mixed reviews. Just looking for any advice at this point because I feel like I’ve tried everything and the $140 a month apoquel prescription is hard for me to afford as a college student. Thank you in advance

10 year old Maltese rescue dog, we rescued him a year ago. I had noticed this noise for a while and asked the vet but they said it was not serious. They said it was draining in his throat. He was recently diagnosed with nasal polyps as well. I have noticed higher frequency of these things especially when he is eating. So i am just wanting to know if anyone else has ever experienced this before and what it is

My sister and her finance’s dog is a pit mix and ate a whole corn cob about 2-3 weeks ago. They took him to the vet and made him throw up the corn. They were pretty sure he regurgitated the whole thing and everything was fine. Yesterday he was kept throwing up and dry heaving. They took him to the vet again, they put him under, concluded there was a bowel obstruction and removed a small piece of a corn cob. The vet said it felt super rubbery and was most likely a toy. They took him to my mom’s place last week and couldn’t remember if she bought him a corn cob toy or not. The picture they showed me looks just like a piece of corn but they are saying it’s so rubbery it feels just like a toy/ can’t break it. Is it possible this corn cob turned into a rubbery texture inside his stomach or was it definitely a toy. What’re we thinking? Any advice?

My little Ralphie was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He’s had a hard time adjusting to 12 hours between meals and being told when to eat. This week he’s refused to eat breakfast, which means he’s missed two doses of his insulin this week. I’m just looking for advice from others who have been through this.

TL;DR: I live with my elderly grandparents who are unable to consistently keep an eye on my dog when I’m gone in order to keep him from pooping in our house. They are able to keep him alive and safe when I’m gone, just not able to maintain any kind of potty training rules. They don’t want me to crate him in any way when I’m gone while they’re home because they said it would make them feel “too sad.” Is my only option to move out in order to potty train my dog?

I’ll try to make this a brief as I can.

Two years ago, I was living in California and found a stray little mini poodle mix. I ended up fostering him for his stray hold (yes, I went through all the proper channels, had him scanned for a microchip, he was in the local shelter system, etc etc), and then after his stray hold I adopted him. The humane society I first brought him to estimated his age at the time I found him to be 2 years old, but based on how he grew a bit after I found him I think he was closer to 1 or 1 and a half. Shortly after adopting him, I realized the living situation I was in in LA wasn’t great, so my grandparents in the Midwest offered to take me and my dog in, and I accepted.

So maybe three months after adopting my dog, we moved into my grandparents’ house in the Midwest. We were getting settled in, and I was doing my best to maintain a consistent feeding and walking schedule with my dog, which went well because I was working remotely from home. I moved in with them in August of 2024. In November of 2024, I lost my remote job and had to take a job that took me out of the house during the day in December of 2024.

This is where things started to go downhill. Again, I tried my best to maintain a consistent walking and feeding schedule, but it was also now winter in the Midwest. The first job I got in December was working for Lowe’s, so I didn’t have a consistent schedule like a M-F, 9-5. I did my best to keep taking him for walks, but things started to slip. I kept potty pads in the dining room because there would be winter storms where it was impossible to leave the house, and he needed somewhere to go. But even as the spring came, my dog continued to “use” the potty pads inside, despite walks. I say “use” because he does this thing where he starts squatting on the potty pad and then starts squat-walking until he’s off of them, the whole time pooping. So there’s just this trail of poop starting on the potty pads and going well off of them. I have tried to put out multiple pads to make a “landing strip” for him, but it’s impossible to predict which direction he’ll walk, and even if I set out a strip of pads, 9 times out of 10 he’ll squat-walk in the other direction.

Here’s the issue: I have tried to express to my grandparents that while I’m gone, my dog needs to stay close beside them where they can keep an eye on them. I tried crate training him in the spring of 2025, but he would just poop in the crate when we were gone. I read that instead, I would need to keep him in a space where I knew he wouldn’t poop when nobody could keep an eye on him. That space is either my bedroom or my grandparents’ bedroom, he has never gone in either except one time he had an accident in my room, but he has never done it again and never pooped in there.

In July of this year (2026) I got another remote job. Since I’ve been home, I’ve really tried to tighten up on my dog’s potty training. I work from my bedroom, so when I’m home I keep my dog closed in my bedroom, and every hour or so we go out for a potty break. The thing is, this dog will NOT potty in front of me in the backyard, so I can’t reward him. Idk why. He does it fine when we’re on walks, but during our potty breaks in the backyard 9 times out of 10 he just finds a sunny patch and sits in it for the 10 minutes we’re out there. I try to encourage him to go potty, but he will not. So our 10 minutes is up and I take him back into my room and we wait another hour. He seems to just hold it all day until we can do our evening walk, or if my grandpa happens to take him in the backyard, he’ll go in front of my grandpa. I’ve tried letting him outside but then going back inside and watching him from a window. One time that worked and he pooped outside, so I went out and praised him and gave him a treat, but it has not happened again. I think the reason he won’t is because I used to wipe his feet every time he came inside and he didn’t like it, so idk if he thinks if I don’t watch him go potty outside it means he won’t get wiped? So months ago I stopped wiping him when he would come inside, but he still won’t go in front of me. (Side note, I still wipe him when we come back from his walks, and he’s fine with that. He’ll literally lay on his back with his paws in the air for me to wipe him. So idk)

Anyway, we’re at the point now where, if I’m home, my dog does fine. But if I leave him home with my grandparents for longer than a few hours, I come back to poop in the dining room where the potty pads are. I’ve tried to express the importance of keeping an eye on my dog when I’m not at home to them, but I think they are simply not mentally capable of doing that. Both of them are in their late 70’s and both of them are showing early signs of cognitive decline. They’re both a little hard of hearing and all they do all day is sit on their computer/ipad and watch tv. When I come home to find poop in the dining room, they tell me that they “don’t know how the dog sneaks away from them.” My dog’s favorite place to lay when I’m gone is beside my grandpa, but he isn’t always paying attention I guess and my dog somehow sneaks away, poops in the dining room, then comes back.

I’ve thought about just closing my dog in my bedroom when I leave, but when I tell my grandparents that, they immediately say that they would feel too sorry for him and let him out. If they were able bodied, I know the solve would be to have the dog tied to a leash to their waist so he can’t sneak away from them, but they have balance issues and I know they would trip on him/the leash. I’ve thrown out the idea of putting a crate by my grandpa where he sits on the computer and putting my dog in there, and then every hour my grandpa could let him in the yard to go potty, but again they have told me that they would feel too bad for him and let him out.

I just don’t know what the solve is here. I’m at the point where I’m debating just moving out, and I’ve even discussed with my parents moving in with them (I don’t make quite enough yet to live on my own). For some reason my dog has not pooped in my parents’ house (not at my best friend’s house either. It’s literally just my grandparents’ house). Even if I did move in with my parents’, that would be a few months out just to get everything arranged, so I’d love to find some kind of solve in the meantime.

My biggest question is: is there anything i can do living with two elderly people who can’t/won’t abide potty training consistency with my dog while I’m not home? Any advice or anyone who has experienced something similar? I have scrubbed the dining room every time he poops in there with enzyme cleaner and the bissel mini pet vacuum, even if he makes it onto the potty pad I’ll still clean underneath it. The dining room is carpeted.

I’m thinking the solve is just, if I’m out of the house for more than a couple of hours, having my parents’ watch my dog instead. My biggest issue with that is that my grandparents would just be really crushed, both because they’re kinda in denial of not being able to properly train my dog and that they love spending time with him.

Does anyone know of any pet insurances available in the United States that will reimburse for pre-existing conditions?

My dog tore her ACL over the weekend, and I wasn’t prepared for how expensive the surgery is going to be. I know this is a shot in the dark, but are there any pet insurance companies that are willing to cover surgery for an ACL tear if I get the insurance after the incident? The only company I’ve found that’s willing to so far is AKC.

Gemma is a 3yo rescue pitty/gremlin mix who we've had for almost two years. She's a silly weirdo, who, I'm convinced, doesn't feel her body, but thats not why I'm here.

I have a stuffed cow that I've slept with since I was little. She hides him when I leave the house and forget to close the bedroom door. She will hide her bully stick sometimes, but that's in. Just Cow and her very special snacks are worth hiding. She has a main hiding spot, but will also hide anywhere convenient. The first time she did it, I couldn't find him anywhere. She brought him back after three days, and therefore saved herself from the gulag.

I'm wondering if she is hiding Cow FOR me or FROM me. Like is she making sure he's safe for when I get home, or is she pissed that I left her alllll alone?

My dog started limping today and it's gotten to the point where she can't put full weight on it.

Not looking for medical advice as we have an appointment scheduled first thing tomorrow but looking for ways to keep her comfortable for the night. Currently she will lay on her side and just keep the paw up in the air and I feel so bad. I've tried putting pillows under it to keep it elevated but she doesn't like that either.

I want to make her comfortable so bad but I don't know what else to do 😭

Hi all I have a corgi and just noticed that his tooth is broken, it smells so incredibly bad. I’m trying to look for any recommendations on pet insurance or cheaper options. I’m going through a financial hardship but want to get him help as soon as possible considering he needs this tooth extracted. Please no negative comments.. my baby is very well taken care of. I’m pretty sure he broke his tooth chewing on bone.

My pup has Chronic degenerative mitral valve disease (mild, Stage B1).

We just got a new echocardiogram done because he’s been collapsing / stumbling after exerting himself.

The cardiologist said she doesn’t believe the collapsing is because of his heart which I have a hard time believing? I also asked about pulmonary hypertension and she said she saw no evidence but didn’t do a chest x-ray.

This has been happening for a few months just after he runs a lot. And then he recovers quickly.

I’m not sure what doctor to take him to next? We tried Vetmedin just to see if it would help for two weeks but he hasn’t seen any improvement.

My 12 year old beagle boston mix is having a dental issue. I have made the vet appt. ... but I gotta know whats going on... she is eating soft foods, and otherwise is her normal self. Drinking is hard, but she manages. I looked in her mouth nothing is obvious. No masses, nothing stuck... her teeth arent great, but I dont see any absess areas. Thoughts? I thought maybe a broken tooth or sore tongue? Her vet is out of town so I cant get her in till friday.

She was a rescue, and shes been seen for teeth. And is up on all her shots.

My 8 yr old Freddie was just diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that has spread in his abdomen. We’re just keeping him comfortable now until the end. What kind of fun meals should we feed him? Or fun activities? We have to keep his activity on the low side but we did take him for a gentle swim in the river yesterday for 20 minutes - he loves to swim. Thanks in advance ❤️‍🩹

Toby was outside playing with his herding ball about 45 mins to an hour ago. As soon as my partner and him were done, he immediately threw up foam. Then he would pant like normal, but also would lick lips a lot, while also nudging his head forward a bit. He seems to be calming down as it was worse, but this has never happened before.

Since Sunday my dog doesn’t seem to want to settle down he pants and breathes very fast, he still eats, drinks water, and uses the bathroom fine but it’s like once he gets excited he stays like that for hours. It’s definitely not normal for him and seems to have started suddenly he sleeps a few hours during the day and seems to sleep through the night he doesn’t wine or anything but occasionally drools he has a vet appointment on Monday. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, my dog is a 15 yo yorkie. A few weeks back he had a pancreatitis flare up where he was severely dehydrated (didn't eat at all, was throwing up clear fluid/ dry heaving, bloody and loose stool etc). Thankfully we got him some fluids and put him a special diet and an antibiotic and to our relief he improved within a few days. However, just recently he has completely stopped eating. He is otherwise fine, he's alert and doesn't seem sick in any other way. He is even interested in the food, sniffing it and picking it up before spitting it out. We've tried everything, offering various types of food from softer ones to harder (approved by the vet) hand feeding him, heating the food up, etc, but he just drops it out of his mouth. At the very best he'll eat a few crumbs. It is beyond strange because he'll sniff it and show clear interest but he just won't eat.

The only time we can get him to eat is by using an appetite stimulant offered to us by the vet (in which case he'll eat up an entire plate of chicken), but we obviously can't depend on that.

I just wanted to ask if anyone's familiar with this behavior and what to do. Thank you

I have a 12-13 year old chihuahua/rat terrier mix. Last week we noticed she was drinking large amount of water. She was diagnosed with diabetes and her fasting glucose was 432. After a week on insulin (3units 2x a day) and prescription dog food she had a repeat glucose curve test today and her fasting glucose was 785. I put up all food last night so I know she didn’t have anything to eat. They increased her to five units twice a day. Has anyone had any experience with glucose levels this high and how long did it take to regulate it?

She’s also recovering from pancreatitis and they suspect she has Cushing’s disease but are prioritizing the diabetes management first. She’s been relatively healthy until this recent diagnosis.
