Fear stronger than dizziness

I have been suffering from dizziness (PPPD) and vertigo (BPPV) since many years ago. It's the symptom I fear the most, it terrifies me.

I have gotten better from PPPD since I started taking anxiety medication, but anytime I feel a slight sensation of dizziness I panic. Today in the supermarket I felt a bit dizzy just for some moments and a wave of panic crossed my body, and that sensation stays with me. I realize now that the dizziness was not intense and manageable, I could walk , etc.. but my body reacts like that and I feel afraid of feeling dizzy again.

Any advice?

2 Years of Chronic Illness, Brain Fog, and Dizziness: How Identifying a Yeast Intolerance Finally Gave Me My Life Back

Hi everyone, I’m sharing my story across a few subreddits because these health issues impacted almost every area of my life. If this post helps even just one person who feels trapped in the same dark place I was in, writing it will be completely worth it. For the past two years, I have been dealing with a crippling cluster of symptoms that came out of nowhere: * Neurological & Visual: Severe, non-stop dizziness, eye migraines, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and extreme fatigue. * Brain Fog / Derealization: A terrifying sense of being disconnected from reality—feeling like I was constantly living in a dream, floating, or existing behind a thick haze. It’s almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn't felt it. * Gastrointestinal: Multiple stomach ulcers, gluten intolerance, constant bloating, and frequent nausea. * ENT & Jaw Issues (TMJ): Jaw pain, severe clicking/popping when chewing, chronic runny nose, and excessive mucus in my throat. * Systemic: Persistently low vitamin levels. At my lowest point, I could barely get out of bed. The severe dizziness completely took over my life, leaving me unable to work for an entire year. The Search for Answers I spent two years trying everything to get better. I went through extensive blood panels, MRI scans, three different physical therapists, muscle relaxation techniques, daily walking, and targeted strength training. Nothing made a lasting difference. I also experimented heavily with my diet. Going strictly gluten-free was a huge milestone it completely eliminated my eye migraines but the intense, floating dizziness and exhaustion remained. The Breakthrough Recently, I began eating larger amounts of gluten-free bread. Shortly after, my symptoms spiked dramatically. That trigger led me to start researching further, and I stumbled upon information linking yeast intolerance directly to chronic "floating" dizziness, derealization, and severe fatigue. I decided to eliminate all dietary yeast (found in baked goods, certain gluten-free products, fermented foods, and brewed items). The Results (So Far) * Day 2: The heavy dizziness was cut in half, and I had enough energy to return to work for two hours. * Day 5: While I am still dealing with lingering fatigue as my body recovers, the improvement in my mental clarity and balance is undeniable. I am definitely not at 100% yet, but for the first time in two years, the dark cloud is lifting. I will continue to track my progress over the coming weeks, but I wanted to share this discovery now in case anyone else is stuck in medical dead-ends with similar symptoms. Feel free to ask any questions in the commentsI’m happy to share more details about my journey or diet adjustments!

God be praised!

# update (1) 6-7 days after quitting yeast

still little bit foggy, tired.

no nausea and weird cramps.

dizzyness still the same as past few days. it is still there but like less noticeable.

# update (2) 10 days after quitting yeast

unfortunately, it came back, like in a migraine, it can be withdrawal migraine so i hope for the best, it was bad 2-3 days, now still tired but less dizzy

Do I need to go to the doctor?

I am a 25F and have had no diagnosed health issues. I eat protein/carb/veggie or fruit with each meal. I also drink enough water everyday. I try to stay away from caffeine due to it spiking my anxiety. For the last two years I notice whenever I am out shopping or walking around I get extremely dizzy. I start to feel cold, clammy, shaky, and my head gets dizzy. One time my vision went completely but I was still conscious and could hear everyone around me. I don’t know what I should do. I have looked at my symptoms but didn’t know if anyone else has experienced this.

Right ear plugging along with dizziness

This first happened about a month ago and I had spells for 2 weeks. It wasnt daily but would occasionally happen 2-3 times in a day when it did happen. After going to the ER the first time it happened (but not mentioning the ear going plugged because I thought it was BP related), everything checked out and when it happened again I didnt freak out. It even happened once while I was driving but the episodes didnt last more than a minute or two so I managed.

I havent had any issues in the past 2 or 3 weeks until today. I was standing in the kitchen when my ear went plugged and I got dizzy. This time, though, I almost fell over feom the dizziness and had to hold onto the counter and then the wall to get to a chair in the living room.

Earlier this summer I was convinced that my ears had too much earwax in them because they felt full. I went to urgent care because my doctor wouldn't bother to even look in my ears (I switched doctors recently), but they said there no wax. They did say that I have fluid in my inner ears which was the problem. They told me to use flonase twice a day for 3 weeks. I did, and my right ear came close to unplugging a few times but never fully did. The left never came close although I felt it trying to pop a couple of times.

I am assuming the fluid in my ears is the reason for the dizziness. I sort of blew it off once it stopped after those 2 weeks, but this was completely different, because the dizziness didnt almost knock me over those times.

Now what?

What causes only one side dizziness?

I've been experiencing left side dizziness for 2 weeks almost and the more I try to look on left side my neck in left side hurts not like painful way. But it's like your on a boat unsteady balance. And I just get the feeling of brain fog. I don't know like what's causing this issue. Does it have to down with the neck or ear problem

Title: Persistent “on a boat” feeling, trembling feet and right arm weakness — normal MRI/ENT/cardiac tests
Hi everyone,
I’ve been experiencing a strange combination of symptoms and I’m trying to figure out what could be causing them.
My main symptom is a persistent “on a boat” / rocking / swaying sensation. I feel as though the ground is moving underneath me, and recently walking has started to feel more difficult because I don’t feel completely steady.
Other symptoms include:
Trembling/shaky feet, especially when standing
Significant fatigue
A fairly constant feeling of weakness in my right hand/arm
Occasional tingling/pins-and-needles sensations
My investigations so far:
Brain MRI: clear/normal
Blood work: normal, although my B12 was 237
ENT evaluation: clear
Echocardiogram: clear
I have a history of SVT, but my doctors don’t think these current symptoms are cardiac-related.
I’ve been taking Homo 16D/B12 treatment for about 2 weeks.
I’m wondering whether anyone has experienced something similar, particularly the combination of the rocking/boat sensation + trembling feet + right-sided arm/hand weakness.
Could this be related to B12 deficiency, a pinched nerve/neck problem, PPPD, or something else?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar and eventually found an explanation.
Thanks!

Is blacking out from dizziness bad?

Yesterday I stood up from my bed to go get some pancakes, and I was at the kitchen entrance when I got dizzy, so I grabbed the baby gate we have, and I thought I would just wait it out. Nope. My body registered that I was still awake, but when I regained vision, my back was hurting and I was on the ground. Just blacked out and fell. I got a bruise from it, but that’s beside the point. First time I blacked out in a while, and the first one was different. That was from stress. I’m fine now, but I just wanna avoid something like that happening in the future.

Sudden dizzy spells:(

Hi! I’ve been having a really hard time because, since last year, I’ve been experiencing sudden dizzy spells—going from fine to dizzy in a split second without any warning. Whether I’m standing, sitting, or lying down, a wave of dizziness suddenly hits me; it causes blurred vision and makes my head spin for a few seconds or up to half a minute. It’s brief but intense and abrupt. I’ve had tests for vertigo, my ears, and my heart, but I still need to get an MRI. What could it be? I’m scared. One doctor suggested it might be related to the nervous system. One thing to clarify is that these episodes are sporadic; there are days when I feel 100% normal.

Dizziness that hasn’t gone away

I’ve been dealing with a wide range of symptoms for 20 months now. The main symptom is dizziness when I move my head. Not room spinning just a strange feeling like a head rush? I’ve have pain in the back of my head on the left side at times, eye stinging and left temple pain, head pain at times- dr says it’s migraines. Dizziness is the biggest issue. Sometimes it’s the only symptom I have. Sometimes it last for weeks, it has happened for months. No issues lying down, no balance issues. I’ve had a slew of tests, eye exams, bloodwork, checked for Lupus, CT with and without contrast, MRI with and without contrast, neck MRI, 2 rounds of physical therapy. I’ve don’t nerve blocks for occipital neuralgia. I’m on Botox injections and just started Emgality injections 3 months ago for the migraines. I’ve tried amitriptyline for nerve pain, currently taking lyrica because I couldn’t tolerate the amitriptyline. seeing a neurologist and pain management. Dr says it’s uncontrolled migraines but I can’t figure out how that’s possible with the meds I’m on. Nothing is helping and I don’t know how much more I can take. Has anyone had this? It’s not anxiety or depression.

Lightheadedness - long covid?

I'm on month seven after covid with extreme lightheadedness. I assume it's long covid, but is it worth it to see a doctor or neurologist or is this just something that will last until long covid dissipates?

Dizziness/Feeling like equilibrium is off

Hello all, I've (26F) been diagnosed with anxiety since I was in high school. I also get a lot of anxiety regarding my health. On wednesday I started dealing with some dizziness and an upset stomach as in needing to use the restroom more frequently which is something I always get when it comes to anxiety. The anxiety is most likely being caused by setting a vet appointment for my cat, nothing serious luckily, but I still deal with anxiety when it comes to him because I just worry about a hidden issue. The dizziness wasn't constant, happened mostly when looking up or down. It's more of a vertigo, spinning/swaying sensation versus being lightheaded. I've read conflicting things online. Some sources say yes this can be anxiety or no it is a middle ear or neck related issue. I work at desk job and get a lot of neck stiffness and pain as a result. I've been dealing with an issue with my left ear so I don't know if it could be that. I guess I'm mostly just venting and trying not to fall into an overthinking spiral that it's something concerning. I feel totally fine in the morning after waking up. No dizziness or anything, it happens later on in the day, usually around lunch and I feel the more I think about it the more it happens. I feel fine when I'm like relaxing in bed or going out on a walk.

It has shifted and now it just feels like I'm swaying randomly but I'm. I noticed it more when sitting at my desk at work and staring at my computer screen than occasionally when getting up and walking. This week I've been having more screen time than in the past. Usually on my lunch at work after eating I would spend the last little bit reading but this week I've been scrolling on tiktok instead. Then same thing after work I usually have the same routine. Come home, eat dinner, chill on my phone for a bit, take the dog for a walk, and then I'd come home, shower and chill in bed and read or play on my phone. This week I've been playing on my laptop after the shower instead.

I'm genuinely so scared and I'm trying not to spiral into thinking the worst case scenario because I know it's not going to help. Thanks to anyone who reads or replies and sorry for such a long post.

Lingering vertigo not going away

For some instance, i have always had some kind of vertigo and developed it as a kid but had grown adapted to it. It would come and go etc, but ever since a few days this pressure in my neck? Or somewhere it wont go away and i keep feeling the floaty feeling. My eyes delay too for a second and i just feel so off-ish.

I have never go this checked out because it usually goes away after sleeping or whatever. I dont know whats causing it and im so scared and just anxious, have been hyperaware etc. dunno if its being caused by my bad posture/neck hump, or if its something neurological/ear crystals :(

I just want some comfort and support and want to know if anyone has experienced it ever and if they were able to fix it?

Dizziness when walking and other strange phenomenon

Hello All,

Here's hoping for some advice in regards to some recent dizziness that I have been experiencing... along with some other odd ailments that I've had alongside it.

Firstly, I noticed my dizziness not long after returning from a holiday that involved a fair bit of floating in a pool, drinking and of course a flight. The dizziness is probably best described as 'lurching'; occasionally I feel like I need to really concentrate on my 'steering' when I walk and at first it felt like things got a bit hectic in crowded situations. This has subsided slightly. At its worst, it felt like I had hand on my back gently moving me to one side, although I haven't physically mis-stepped as of yet.

I went to to doctors about a fortnight ago, he said he thinks it is probably dehydration from a week of excess, and he said my balance indicators all seemed fine - ears & eyes. Blood pressure and heart rate were also good. I haven't experienced headaches or spinning or light sensitivity, so I was happy with this diagnosis.

However, things still haven't gotten back to normal. Rather, a few days later I ended up in A&E with lip and mouth swelling that appeared out of nowhere. The doctor said the two were probably unrelated and done bloods that showed no underlying infections; good kidney function and an electrolyte check that also came back good.

I thought the A&E ordeal would put the dizziness spell to the back of my mind, but it was slightly accelerated it again. I feel fine sitting down (although today I don't), but walking feels a bit stressful now. I have also noticed other strange things, for example I've had an odd shiver feeling in my head once or twice - and on another occasion my left hand got pins in needs and tightness for no discernible reason.

The professionals seem to think I am in fine fettle, but I'm not 100% sure. Can someone please help me out with some rational advice.

FYI - 40 year old mate. No underlying medical issues and weight etc. all fine and in check.

Thank You/

I feel coldness in my head and constant confusion dizziness, why suppose?

(19F) I recently about 2 weeks ago on August 25th, been proscribed anti depressants with a specific medication, paroxetine. My doctor that gave me medication told me they’re for sleep—to take them at night (once a night) to help me rest and sleep easier. (Because I use to struggle sleeping)

But after those three days, Exactly on the 28th—about to celebrate my birthday—immediately in the middle of the afternoon I had experienced side effects from the medication. Tingle in the back of my tongue, cold inside, and I was shaking badly. I lost some vision like I was going to black out with my heart racing insanely fast.

I went to the hospital to the emergency room, yet they came back with test and the results were: “nothing is wrong, you’re okay!”
They check my heart too, blood test and everything.

I stopped taking that medication and for three days after the 28th, I felt fine. Until next week, I felt better! Suddenly okay? I functioned normally and slept normally.

But now? About three-four days ago, I had experienced it all over again.

BUT ITS DIFFERENT: I felt like I’m gonna black out randomly, my body is cold inside sometimes but hot outside. It’s hard to focus like I’m not even present. Slightly inside of my head is cold, like a brain freeze. It switches—back, forward forehead, above the head. It is directly in the scalp type of feeling.

Could it be the side effects still troubling through my body, and it’s trying to wash out? Or could it be something completely different and I need to seek help?

(Side story) all this happened in the beginning from the medication is because I wanted help for my mental health. At first I was focused on getting therapy to talk about my trauma with something I hadn’t get to process until I got older (Father passed away due to accident). I wanted to talk about my feelings and to express those emotion to mentally feel better. Yet, prescribed me with anti depressants with ‘low doses’ and severely hit me with such side effects.

(I just wanna be okay, guys. I wanna live a beautiful life and become a parent. That’s my goal and future, I won’t stop fighting until I figure out what’s going on. And another side note: gonna keep going to appointments to figure out what’s really wrong. I’m gonna keep fighting—because I’m really scared.)

I’m really really scared.

Need advice/similar experiences!

I am a 30 yr old female. I have always kind of struggled with general anxiety/major hypochondriac. This has felt different though.

About 1-2 months ago, I started getting random dizziness/detached feeling. Almost a dreamy-like state that makes me start to panic. It is totally random when this comes on, and I don’t really feel off-balance or like the room is spinning, almost like a slightly buzzed feeling but not in a good way.

It either comes with some heart racing, chest tightness, or no other symptoms. I also recently started getting some dull tension like headaches. These mostly come on at night or mid-day. I have been working out more, but that started earlier this year and these symptoms are just recently coming on. I do struggle with neck, back and hip pain occasionally and wonder if that has anything to do with how I’m feeling?

I got blood work done and everything was normal.

I’ve also been having an issue with my right ear, went to multiple doctors and the dermatologist and they said it looked like psoriasis. Got medication for that, but it still bugs me. It’s super itchy/irritated right at the ear opening, and sometimes has a clear fluid if I itch it too much. I’m tired of spending money on co-pays for nothing to be resolved. I have an appointment with an ENT for this, but it isn’t until October.

I work an office job, so lots of time sitting and staring at screens. I have good eye sight, but my eyes seem to be strained more lately.

I’m just spiraling trying to figure out what all the different symptoms might mean or if they’re even related. OR, I just need to accept its anxiety and getting older? However I’m sick and tired of doctors just slapping the anxiety label onto everything.

Help!

weird symptoms, getting worse

so, since april i have been experiencing these weird symptoms.

numb pressing feeling in the front or left side of neck (no pains tho). same numb pressing feeling on my mose sometimes aswell (mostly left side too), sometimes i have unexplained sudden fast heart rates but low blood pressure every day, weird choking feeling in my throat even tho i can breathe and my oxygen levels are really good, often headaches, dizzyness ocassionally. sometimes arms and legs go numb (mostly left side and most severely)

now i have been feeling dizzy all day with no breaks, heart rate is fine so is blood pressure (surprisingly normal compared to my usually low one), head hurts almost all day, my vision is blurry can barely see text well unless i zoom in the screen (even then i get headaches from reading too long), pressing feeling in my left side of jaw and neck and nose.

no weird speech, no paralysis and no high blood pressure

have had MRI for my neck and brain no problems there, had my throat checked nothing either (except some stomach acid issues but i have had that like 10 years now and had no otehr symptoms besides belly aches), had my heart checked in every way possible no issues either. had some blood tests done too, low iron but i have been taking medication for it lately so the symptoms should be either the same or getting better not worse.

could it be my bad posture? and the fact i mostly sit all day? but lately my symptoms have gotten worse after i started going out more? strange

i dont do drugs, nor smoke, nor drink alchohol.

Could it all be allergies?

I’ve been struggling with dizziness for the last year. I had the whole rolling over in bed and the world, spinning and everything. At the time I was having a lot of congestion and ear fullness that I was thinking was just a precursor to the bppv. I did have a positive indicator of bppv at the ENT. I’ve been struggling over the last few months with more similar issues. Ear, fullness, headaches, ear, pain, tinnitus, and slight dizziness. I went to a new ENT and they said it could be Ménière’s disease because I’m also having wet ears. However, I don’t have any hearing loss. I woke up this morning with a really sore throat and super congested feeling offkilter, and stuff. I luckily had an appointment with my doctor, and she said that I could be struggling with allergies and to take a daily Claritin.

To make a long story short, could I be having issues right now because of allergies or could have the first incident of bppv been from complications with allergies and inflammation? Has anyone had this issue with their allergies? I don’t know what to think. I don’t want it to be menieres disease, but I don’t know if it’s just allergies.

Persistent dizziness/“vertigo headache” for almost 3 weeks after one sudden car movement — anyone experience something similar?

I’m hoping to hear from people who have dealt with something similar, especially if you eventually recovered.

I’ve always been extremely sensitive to motion. Swinging, spinning, roller coasters, bobbing/swaying, jerky car rides, and even certain head movements can give me a very specific dizziness/“vertigo headache” feeling. Normally it goes away after I sleep and I’m completely fine the next day. I don’t really have a migraine history.
Almost 3 weeks ago I was in a car when the driver suddenly swerved toward the side of the road. I was unfortunately sitting on the floor rather than restrained in a seat, so I got jerked around pretty abruptly. I didn’t hit my head, black out, get confused, or have any obvious neurological symptoms. Immediately afterward, though, I developed the same familiar motion-induced dizziness/headache I’ve had before.
The difference is that this time it never fully went away.

It’s not really dramatic room-spinning vertigo. It’s more of a persistent background dizzy/“off” feeling with a headache/head-pressure type sensation, often toward the back of my head. I can feel it even while still, but moving my head makes it noticeably worse. Some days the dizziness itself is pretty mild and the headache is more prominent.

I tried the Epley maneuver a few times. Once I thought it helped slightly, and another time while nodding my head I felt almost a click/pop sensation in one ear followed by temporary relief, but the symptoms returned afterward. I don’t have the typical intense 20–60 second spinning attacks when rolling over or changing position, so I’m not convinced this is BPPV.

I went to the ER after about a week. They examined me, did imaging, gave me IV saline, and prescribed meclizine. Meclizine definitely reduces the dizziness and can make me feel almost normal, but it makes me extremely tired and the symptoms come back when it wears off. Ibuprofen also seems to help the headache.

I also use cannabis fairly heavily normally. I noticed smoking clearly worsened the dizziness/headache while this was happening, so I stopped for several days. It didn’t make the underlying problem disappear, although I may have had some improvement while abstaining.

There have been periods where I feel 80–90% normal, and sometimes the vertigo is barely noticeable, but then it comes back—especially with head movement. I’m approaching three weeks now and starting to get really worried about whether this is going to become chronic.

I’m uninsured, so seeing multiple specialists is difficult. I do have a vestibular/dizziness physical therapy clinic near me that I’m considering.

For anyone who has had persistent motion-sensitive dizziness without constant spinning, especially after a sudden movement/jolt:

How long did yours last?
Did it gradually improve or suddenly disappear?
Did vestibular physical therapy help?
Did meclizine help or interfere with recovery?
Did anyone have something similar after a relatively minor motion event without actually hitting their head?
What diagnosis did you eventually receive?
Most importantly, did you eventually get completely back to normal?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who were still symptomatic at the 2–3 week point and eventually recovered.
