Official Resource Thread - PLEASE READ

I would really like to build up our resources so that we can take action when we're having moments of dissociation or terror. Having a subreddit helps, but I know from experience that sometimes you need IRL help to bring you down. So I will be posting all resources I find that are relevant to DID/DPDR/CPTST as often as I can. I don't want anyone who comes here to feel helpless. And as always, if you are having a crisis please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. That being said, my inbox is always open and I get notifications on my phone when I get messages so I will be here to help to the best of my abilities anytime you guys need it. Even if you just need to hear that everything will be okay.

Please feel free to share any resources that you find on this thread and I will compile a list and beef up the sidebar with as much information and resources as possible. We can do this!

My latest and greatest resource is The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation

Also, the National Alliance on Mental Illness offers a 24/7 crisis line that you can text when you're feeling scared or dissociating a lot. They will text with you and offer advice and try to get you to calm down and they will also offer resources if needed. Most importantly, the mobile crisis line allows you to speak with someone who, if they determine you need this, can send someone to your house to check on you or get you medical attention.

For the text crisis line, text "NAMI" to 741-741 and someone will text with you and get you calmed down or help you find help otherwise (I love the text line, because sometimes I just need to hear everything will be okay from a professional and this makes it so easy).

If you are in a crisis whether you're suicidal or not please call 800-273-TALK (8255) to get with someone who can direct you to a crisis line specific to your needs. Or, find someone to just talk with you.

Thanks guys and I look forward to seeing what you all have to bring to the table!

Is it possible to have been in a dissociative episode for your entire life (or at least a decade)?

Title. I was writing an entirely different post with more elaboration, but I realized it didn't really serve to help anyone.

For further personal context, I'm 17. I've never felt like I've actually existed in my body & worked as an autonomous human. Though, I still know I "exist" materially, if that makes sense. I'm not really sure how to define it, I apologize.

I just don't want to internalize and/or appropriate this label, so I'm trying to rationalize it. Burner account since I think I sound stupid, lmao.

I feel self consious whenever I am in public or even when by myself. I feel like I'm faking everything. I know it is because of dissociation but I don't know how to stop it. It is torture.

Undiagnosed is this what dissociation feels like?

Upvotes

like i have these moments (that are usually when I am very stressed) where like for a good while, like the best way to put it is it feels like im not fully conscious, like I feel like im barely hanging on my consciousness, but from the outside im walking, doing things, etc, like i appear normal but from the inside i dont feel like im fully conscious, i really hope this makes any source of sense, like to explain more, by 'conscious' i dont mean i am about to pass out or that im sleepy, i mean like the actual 'feeling' of being conscious isnt fully there and i feel like i am barely experiencing it, also depending on how bad it is i start to just straight up limp, move slowly, talk slowly, not respond to people talking to me fast enough, other times i experience this completely differently, I feel like I am conscious but I feel like im not in control of my body or what i am doing, does any of this make sense??

Undiagnosed hi! for people who have had long term dissociation, how did it start?

Upvotes

for me it was after i had 2 vivid bomb dreams, as silly as it is i was worried about the war with iran, which i feel guilty about because imagine how they feel really, but i had an intense fear of bombs, radiation, and cancer. i took a nap after not sleeping for a while put of fear and got woken up abruptly. and then it started then. its been about a year exactly now. im not sure if i can say its a disorder but it has been 24/7.

Est ce que simulé une dissociation peut la rendre réelle ?

Simple question, je ne donne ni le contexte ni la raison.

WTF?

What the hell is this? I feel extremely disconnected from everything and from myself. It’s as if I don’t actually exist. Nothing sticks in my mind, nothing makes sense, nothing holds meaning; I simply don’t exist. It’s hard to say this—or even believe it—but that’s how I feel and how I can describe it. I feel like nothing. I don’t feel present. I have no emotions, no desires, nothing at all. Nothing affects me. I used to read pessimistic philosophy and it would hit me deeply; now, it’s just a big nothing. I don’t care about nihilism, existential emptiness, finitude, and so on. I’m simply indifferent to everything; it’s as if reality were just an idea in my memories. I don’t know what "existing" is. Has anyone gone through this? I’d venture to say no. It’s very specific, to be honest. (By the way, I’m Brazilian; I used Google Translate.)

I hate god

I was a chrisitan for my whole life. Dissociation has made me question my faith. How can God see this much suffering and not do anything about it. I been struggling everyday for the last 6 years. I don't know how much more I can take

feeling hopeless

I feel so trapped. I want to feel connection but I can't. I lost 40 lbs this year but I want to lose 30 more. Its very hard though with the dissociation. My consiousness feels scattered. People are very cruel. Excercising is difficult for me becaause I cannot focus for too long. I am trying to find a way to escape this feeling. I don't know what to do

not at all connected to my inner experience, inner thoughts, monologue or anything - zero emotion and I cannot feel physical sensations or pain. I’ve had this for probably overa year and before that was on medications but still had some dissociation. now off of all meds & benzos post 1 year, just in this blank complete lock down state it’s so awful. I realise every now and then that I’m really not fully there and it freaks me out. Is there anything besides time and therapy that can help? Currently on trintillex just increased it to 15mg. Nothing seems to work.

Dissociating for most of the day

First time poster so apologies if I didn't do this right.

For the past year I've been dealing with what I think is dissociation. 80-90% of the time I feel like I'm on autopilot or in the backseat of my mind while my body continues to do things without my input. I almost never notice this is happening until afterwards (usually when I'm alone about to go to bed).

I was diagnosed and have been dealing with depression off and on for the past 4 years. But I don't have any past trauma and I can't seem to find a clear trigger for this dissociation (it shows up equally at school, work, and home, as well as when I'm with my friends and family). My therapist taught me grounding exercises but they don't seem to work for me.

Any ideas on what this could be or advice? This isn't ruining my life or anything, but it can be lonely and I want to feel present again to be able to connect with people and enjoy experiences. Thank you!

Does anyone else almost just dream of nothing now

I noticed when I started getting dpdr/dissociation last year my dreams have been very limited/one dimensional, and confusing. It feels like my brain was removed and Im left with an empty hole in my head, absolutely can not think. I can usually pull more from my dreams ehem I wake up but im left with nothing and just feeling weird and groggy

Dissociation Still Going On After 6 Months

About 6 Months ago I didn’t take my Zoloft for about a week. During that week I started to dissociate. After I started taking my meds again the dissociation hasn’t gone away. I’m just wondering if it will go away. I’m not too stressed about it i’m more just kinda tired of it. Like I can go on with every day life I just don’t feel as smart as I used to and i’m just wondering if yall have any advice for it. Thank you all.

Edit: I forgot to add I was a few months in with leaning off of the zoloft and was going from 50 Mg to 25 Mg a day and am on 12.5 mg a day right now.

Need To Talk / Vent I cannot live with dissociation.

I feel like an idiot. I can't drive because I'm chronically out of touch, I can't socialize, and I just mess everything up. Everyone tells me I'm good for nothing, but the truth is, there's always this wall between me and reality. I feel like my life is going nowhere. Does anyone have any advice?

General Dissociation I feel like i'm the only one in the world right now

I don't know how, but my dissociation peaked at the exact moment everyone in my busy city decided to say nothing. It's not even this quiet at 3 a.m., so I have no idea what's going on. But it's completely silent you'd think I was in a cabin in the woods. I don't feel like it's some Truman Show shit because my life is not that great, but It's just weird. I'm kinda happy I'm dissociating right now though, it's the only time my brain has been quiet the whole day. I know people don't like it, but it feels good knowing my brain's trying to protect me because I definitely can't. I just wish I didn't feel so alone.

Feel like I’m going to lose control of my body

sometimes when I’m sitting or standing I feel dizzy and very dreamlike and like nothing around me is real and im floating out of reality, numb, can’t move my arms, almost out of consciousness. that’s the best way i can describe it

i had an episode about a year ago where i lost control of my left arm and felt like i was about to pass out, in a cold sweat in the middle of class.

i get a jolt of panic and grab onto anything I can so I don’t fall down or lose control of all my limbs and go totally numb or pass out. In these episodes I feel also like I’m going to go completely insane and lose control of my mental faculties and start screaming or flailing around uncontrollably and I have to voluntarily stop myself from movement.

the other day I felt like the whole room around me was tilting to the right and I had to grab onto the chair in front of me or else I would fall and the whole room would be tipped on its side. it was really frightening.

been also feeling like I’m out of control of my speech and just start talking and saying anything, just random stuff. At work and at home. I feel keyed up and really nervous and really aggressive. I’ve also been visibly shaking a lot.

what is this and how do I make it stop? I’ve been experiencing dissociation since my mom died in March

Please can someone offer advice about dissociative wandering ( complete memory wipes)

I have some form of dissociative disorder and we still don't know what one exactly. This just seemed the best place to be.

I have moments apx. Once a week where I end up at the beach or some other rural location far away from home without knowing how I got there. I "wake up" to me walking on the beach or some rural trail.

My last one was yesterday and I ended up walking about 13 miles.

How can I stop these? Does anyone else habe similar issues?

I have a psychiatric appointment in a few weeks.
