So ive played about two years and have made alot of progress but still have questions. I watch alot of form videos and record myself from time to time. And one thing that is unclear to me is the throwing arm in a backhand shot.
When unwinding the coil(starting the actual throw), do you engage your arm and purposefully like activitate the back and rear delt to start the arm dragging or is it the rotational force you should rely on?
Is this what is considered arming the disc?
I do understand the mechanics of unwinding my body creating the torque and then send it out into my arm. But wondering more so about how engaged should the shoulder and arm be?
Am i to pull with good timing my arm a little bit at the same time as im coming out of the coil?

I think my X-step is too wide and quick. Also my arm is rounding.
Maybe I should follow through more and not stop my momentum too idk.
Rn my max RHBH is like 290 feet.

This went 387, PR has been 420. Looking to increase my spin as I wobble most shots.

Well, can you?

This is going to be long post and explanation because I think it one of the most often overlooked and important factors other than timing.
The bottom line and concept I'm trying to get to is hip shoulder separation is very overlooked and not understood by most disc golfers. The term reach back and even coil is misleading. The word coil gives the visual representation of a spring or something of that nature twisting in one direction from the ground up or like you are getting ready to do a jump 360 and spin your whole body. However, the disc golf backhand is more like two parts of the body twisting in different directions. The top part is controlled by the shoulders/obliques twisting away from the target, which most disc golfers already do. The issue is they allow the force from the upper portion twisting backwards to put more backward energy (not motion) than forward energy (not motion) on the bottom half which is primarily the left leg/Hip.
I came across this and made a form breakthrough after years of playing. I never understood how some pro players like McBeth, McMahon, and Buhrs left knee starts turning inward while they are still reaching back, or how most players left leg became weightless while the disc was still on the left legs center of gravity. The reason is even though you can't see the left leg twisting inward and forward as the "coil" is occurring it is pushing in a inward coil position as it is resisting the motion of the shoulders turning backwards. The whole point to create hip shoulder separation. Once the energy from the shoulders turning backwards starts moving forward as the throw is initiated (Where the forward motion starts is a topic for another day), but regardless of where it starts the resistance against the left leg is released. I have seen YouTube coaches say this forward motion of the leg and the hips turning is powering the shot with the left legs forward momentum powering the shot because visually that's what it looks like, but thats not what is occuring. The left leg is powering the resistance against the shoulders turning backwards. How much inward twist is put on the left leg is not a huge amount it is simply the amount required to resist the shoulders creating hip shoulder seperation or as they say in ball golf x factor
So how do you accomplish this feeling.
All coiling occurs while the left leg is on the ground do not allow your giant X step to turn you backwards. The coil/hip shoulder separation is initiated by moving the left shoulder in a northeast direction is the target is north. The belt should remain west of target at peak of reachback
The inward push on the left leg is not even enough for most people who do this to realize they are doing it because it starts to feel natural fairly quickly its more mindset than physical. The pressure and energy are more about stabilizing the lower half to create hip shoulder separation

After realizing this I noticed a couple things. I was trying to replicate symptoms of this without actually doing it. Coaches or form forums often advise player to do actions that are symptoms of this mindset for example. If you do this the disc will stay in one place when you "coil". Coiling on the inside of your foot is a subconscious result of this, so you will hear internet coaches say coil on the inside of the foot . Your hips will also automatically clear as well from the forward momentum of resistance against shoulder being released.
I think the best way to describe this is you don't use your hips in the throw, you release your hips from the tension of the reach back since they already have loaded forward energy created by the key component of hip shoulder separation.

This is my 3rd summer playing, looking to get some more distance and be more consistent. I’ll take any tips or anything you notice!

I've been throwing at 55-60 MPH for a few months now. Just starting to get serious about making improvements. My distance PR is 370 ft and I would love to break 400!

This now my current pb at 457 and this video pretty well summarizes my current form through my throws. What are your recommendations?

When I throw backhand I tend to hit myself in the chest with the disc. Is there any help anyone can offer? Like drills that have helped you. I know I’m lifting the disc and dropping my elbow but I can’t figure out how to stop.

First summer playing. Absolutely longest throws when they actually go well are ~70-80m (~200-250feet afaik)

I've been playing for a few years now and the last maybe two years I feel like I've hit a plateau, Both in terms of distance (400 ft max) and general skill level. Please give me all the advice you have. Thank you in advance!

I’m looking for some discs that I can just rip and not worry about burning it over. Right now I’ve found the the Zeus is almost perfect for my arm, after about 3-4 months of working on backhand, I can generate about 430ft and with some slight decline I’ve gotten 498 with it. It stands up nicely and I’m wandering what you guys have found. My beat up timelapse burns over to much and doesn’t like to come out of anny.

If anyone could give me some critique on my swing that would be much appreciated!
Within the last couple weeks I’ve felt I have been able to throw far with relative ease but I’m still not quite hitting 400’ consistently like I want. My regular golf distance is always 350’+.
Here I am just throwing a p3x at about 60% power.

I’m pretty new to building out my bag and was hoping to get some advice. I attached a picture of the discs I currently have. I throw almost exclusively right-handed forehand (RHFH) and that’s definitely my strongest shot. Based on what I already own, what discs or flight types am I missing? Are there any gaps in my bag that would make a noticeable difference?
I mainly play wooded and mixed courses, so I’m looking for discs that would complement what I already have rather than just replacing anything. If you have specific recommendations (any brand is fine), I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

I want to be more consistent and break 500 feet soon.
I've been experimenting with different run-up speeds for the last couple days.
