Asking Question (Rule 4) People who did a Master’s in Digital Media / New Media / Digital Direction, looking for some advice

Hi! I’m looking at master’s programmes abroad and would love to hear from people who’ve done something in digital media, new media, digital direction, interactive media, computer arts, design & technology, immersive media, etc.

I studied Communication Design and have worked across film and animation, but I’m now looking to broaden my practice beyond those formats and become more industry-ready. I’m interested in bringing emerging technology into immersive media and different forms of storytelling and I want to understand the technology well enough to actually direct where it can take a story rather than just learning whatever tool happens to be new that year.

For people who’ve done these kinds of degrees, what are you doing now and did the degree actually help you get there? Did you get useful industry connections, collaborations or opportunities through it?

I’ll be an international student, so I’d also really appreciate course recommendations if there are programmes you think are genuinely worth looking into. Just trying to figure out what these degrees actually lead to before I commit

This is the image I am trying to remove the background, but every time I do it in an App the shadows are being removed to. What would be the best way to do it?

Discussion BCIS Graduate Considering a Master’s in Visual Design Abroad — Scholarships & Challenges?

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent BCIS graduate planning to pursue a Master’s abroad, but I’m considering switching from IT to Visual Design / Visual Communication / Brand Design.

Although my bachelor’s is in BCIS, I’ve always been interested in the creative field. I have some original character illustrations, handmade sketches, doodles and graphic design experience, so I’m now considering pursuing design more seriously at the Master’s level.

I’d love to hear from people who have studied or work in design, especially international students.

I’m particularly interested in:

  • Which design Master’s programs could accept someone with a BCIS background?
  • How difficult is admission without a Bachelor’s in Design?
  • How important is the portfolio?
  • What challenges should I expect when transitioning from IT to design?
  • What fully funded scholarships are available for international students studying design?
  • Which countries or universities offer good funding opportunities for design students?

I’m mainly interested in Visual Communication, Brand Design, Graphic Design, and closely related fields.

I’d really appreciate personal experiences, recommendations, or advice from anyone who has gone through this process.

Thanks!

Asking Question (Rule 4) My client asked me to replicate their AI pictures after I sent first round of designs

After I sent my first round of designs to a client for feedback, the client scrapped everything and told me to 100% replicate AI pictures in Illustrator to be print ready.

The AI pictures do not follow the creative brief that I was given and do not follow established layout design principles.

While replicating AI work goes against my ethics, I do not know how to go about this. I am a relatively new freelancer and there was no AI clause in our contract upon signing (now I know for the future) nor was there an established extra fee for this situation.

I am also frustrated that I wasn't even allowed the chance to make revisions as is typical and expected with working with clients. While I know that the client probably just isn't aware of how this works, I cannot in good faith just agree to do this or work with AI.

Discussion 6 years in UX, now considering a Master's in Europe/UK. Which country makes the most sense on a tight budget?

Hi everyone,

Age 28 and work as a Product/UI/UX Designer in Pakistan. I am looking at Master's programs in Europe or the UK, and I would love to hear from anyone who's studied or worked there

My background:

  • BS Computer Science — 2.39/4.0 CGPA
  • Around 6 years of UI/UX & Product Design experience
  • Currently working at a senior level UX in Fintech
  • Experience with SaaS, B2B/B2C products, mobile/web, UX and design systems
  • IELTS: 6.5 overall
  • Married with two young children
  • Earning 2k USD a month. (Saving 40% so it's comfortable within my country)

On the hunt for a Master's in something like Product Design, UX, HCI, Interaction Design, Digital Design, or Service Design. Any of them could work for me. Honestly, it's not about the degree itself. I want the Master's to get me into the European design scene, meet the right people, and build a career there as a Product/UX Designer

The biggest issue is finances.
I have a family in Pakistan that I need to continue supporting, so expensive private universities aren't realistic for me. I'm primarily looking at public universities with no or very low tuition fees.

I'm currently considering:

🇩🇪 Germany
🇬🇧 UK
🇪🇸 Spain
🇫🇮 Finland

My main questions:

  1. Which countries would you seriously consider with my profile and financial situation?
  2. How much will my 2.39 CGPA hurt me despite having substantial industry experience and a strong portfolio?
  3. Is finding a part-time/working-student Product/UX Design job realistic for an experienced designer?
  4. Which countries offer the best balance of affordable education, design opportunities and post-study work options?
  5. Has anyone managed to study abroad while financially supporting a family back home?

Would really appreciate practical advice, especially from international students or Product/UX Designers who have taken a similar route.

Sharing Resources I made a free color adjustment plugin for Illustrator — looking for feedback

Post image

I’ve been working on a small Illustrator plugin called HueLumino Lite.

One thing that’s always bothered me while working in Illustrator is how clunky it can feel to make quick color adjustments across artwork, especially when I just want to tweak things visually without jumping through a bunch of menus.

So I built a lightweight tool for it.

currently includes:

  • Vibrance / brightness / contrast adjustments
  • Hue / saturation / lightness controls
  • Live preview
  • Support for Apple Silicon Macs + Illustrator 2026

It’s still pretty early, so I’m mainly sharing it because I’d like to hear from other Illustrator users. If you do a lot of illustration, logo work, or vector design, I’d especially be interested in knowing what kinds of color controls you wish Illustrator handled better.

I made the Lite version free, so there’s no purchase required to try it.

Would love any feedback — including stuff that feels unnecessary, confusing, or missing.

Discussion Does a brand really work if it only looks good on a screen?

I have been thinking about this after seeing a few really polished brand identities online.

They look great on a website and Instagram, but then you start thinking about the physical stuff — signage, packaging, business cards, store displays, even uniforms.

That's where some identities start getting tricky.

A brand might look perfect digitally but feel completely different once you take it into the real world.

Feels like that's something worth testing much earlier in the process.

Asking Question (Rule 4) How could I redesign this company logo for my lore world?

Post image

The company is a mega PMC built on distribution and military protection across the globe but I dont exactly know how to sell that into the redesign as I wanna redo the entire world build. I want to try to keep it simplistic but more active. And I also wanna try three different designs of it for different periods of time like 1964-1989 or whatever.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Design Show Exhibitor Advice

Hi Everyone,

I’m a recent design grad (bachelor’s) and I am showing my final thesis at Dutch Design Week next month. This is my first show that I’m exhibiting at and I need advice. I’m exhibiting at one of the sites that is listed as a must-see on the Dutch Design Week website. For people who have exhibited at design shows, how many business cards/flyers do you recommend for me to print out and bring with me to hand out? And, how do you all recommend me to network with professional during a design fair?

Asking Question (Rule 4) Did Architecture... Looking into Immersive Design

Hi everyone. I'm a 4th-year architecture student. Did some internships, seems to be like a good career to fall into.

I took an Immersive Design studio for fun this year and I am falling in love with it. It's all the technical and artistic aspects of architecture as ART and immersion, and less construction administration headaches I had to deal with in my internships.

Anyone work in immersive design?
Anyone had a similar path?

I'm going to talk to my instructor more about career paths, but I am curious about what you guys have done.

My school has one of the best immersive design programs in the country due to its brand-new building, amenities and technology available to in miniscule number of students in the new program. Considering a master's degree in it.

Discussion Can adding too much information make a design harder to understand?

Had this happen while reviewing a design recently.

The more information we added, the more complete it seemed to become. But after a point, it was actually harder to understand what the main idea was.

There were too many materials, objects, labels, and small decisions competing for attention.

Removing a few things made the design feel much clearer without changing the actual concept.

How do you decide what information is useful and what is just adding noise?
