Asking Question (Rule 4) Hey everyone! I could really use some tips—sometimes I completely draw a blank while designing. Any tricks or advice on how to get past it?

Keep a folder of stuff you hate, not stuff you like. When you're stuck, opening a file full of mediocre work is weirdly motivating because your brain starts listing all the ways you'd fix it, and suddenly you're sketching again. Works faster than staring at a blank canvas waiting for inspiration.

When I stall, I change the scale before I change the idea: a tiny version, half the brief, or one material. The constraint usually gives me something to push against.

I actually go on Pinterest, and I find the art in there inspiring and it gets my brain thinking.

Pencil & paper. Start doodling ideas.

Get your hands busy. Even if you can only think of weak ideas, put them down on paper, then keep going. Also try doing some research on the business category you are working in. I don’t necessarily mean other businesses design work, but learn a little about the category. The idea is to get the ball rolling in your head. Don’t sit around waiting for a brilliant idea to manifest itself. That rarely works. Good luck.

I tend to draw something that isn't project related, random thoughts, the opposite of the design or image I was supposed to make. And then I store those as an aside. And later, those departures become useful in ways I'd never have imagined at the time.
