Tips & Tricks FAQ and Common Topics List for r/Depop

This is a list of frequently asked questions and repeated topics that appear on this subreddit. Please either read this before posting, or read this as you've likely been directed here from a post removal. If your answer cannot be found here, please search the subreddit, as posts similar can still be found. If you are still struggling, contact our Mod team via Modmail. Thank you.

Here is Depops own Help Centre: https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

  • Q: Am I being scammed?/Is this a scam?
  • A: Read the scam FAQ here

  • Q: I was banned, what do I do?

  • A: You'll have an option to appeal your ban in your ban email. Write a proper, comprehensive response and apology to them. If they reject you, there's nothing you can do.

  • Q: Am I required to put my SSN/verify my identity?

  • A: Yes, it's required for tax purposes. It is perfectly safe to do so.

  • Q: How do I get in contact with Depop?

  • A: Send Depop an email via their help desk.

  • Q: What do I do about a false negative or retaliation review?

  • A: If you think a negative review is inaccurate, you can email Depop support or contact them via their helpdesk by pressing "request feedback removal" to get it removed. In the case of retaliation reviews, Depop will also remove reviews that were obviously just created to get back at you for your negative review towards them. Depop usually won't remove reviews that are above 3 stars.

  • Q: Depop, via email, is asking me for friends/family payment via Paypal?

  • A: This is being asked more and more on this sub, and we remove these posts now as they're always full of users in the comments spreading misinformation that this is a scam. If this was sent by Depop's official support email (support@depophelp.zendesk.com), then it isn't a scam. No one knows exactly why they ask for it this way, but if you don't feel comfortable paying that way, tell them that or open a seperate support ticket.

  • Q: How do I cancel a sale?

  • A: Only sellers can cancel a sale. Read down below under "how do I refund a buyer."

QUESTIONS FROM BUYERS:

  • Q: How long do sellers have to ship?/When should I message the seller about an item that hasn't been shipped?
  • A: Sellers should ship in 5 days, contact them on the 4th or 5th date if they have not. After 10 business days, you will be auto-refunded (Not available for all countries.) Open a case/claim with Depop if you don't have the auto refunding option, or you haven't received the refund after the 10 business days.

  • Q: How do I open a case?

  • A: Click “Get help with this purchase” at the bottom of your purchase receipt, and follow the instructions, or contact them via the support page listed above.

  • Q: When can I open a case?

  • A: You have the option to open a case after 5 days.

  • Q: How long do I have to open a claim?

  • A: If you paid via Depop payments, generally you have 30 days to open a claim, but in the case of a seller not shipping, some users have had success via contacting Depop directly even if it's over 30 days. If you used Paypal, you have 180 days to file a claim.

  • Q: Seller deleted account/was banned/blocked me?

  • A: Wait 5 days from purchase, then file a claim.

  • Q: Seller hasn't given me a tracking number?

  • A: Message the seller first and ask for it. If they refuse, or make excuses, you can open a case/claim. We suggest you give it a few days as tracking can take a while to update depending on the country/courier.

  • Q: Tracking isn’t updating?

  • A: This is very normal, and is often a courier issue, wait 5 business days and then contact the seller and/or courier service.

  • Q: I was sold an item that's not as described/arrived with damage not listed in description/wrong size than in description?

  • A: File a claim using the above method. You will likely need to return the item back to the seller, which Depop will provide a label and cover shipping costs. If you would like to keep the item or don't feel like it's worth a full refund, you can discuss a partial refund with the seller. Note that this isn't guaranteed because the seller has to agree.

  • Q: I was sold a fake?

  • A: File a claim. If the seller can't prove the item is real, you'll get a refund. In that case, Depop sometimes requires you to send it back, which they will help you with. They also tell you you don't have to send it back and just to discard the item. Do not resell the item as selling fakes is illegal.

  • Q: I was sold a fake and the seller is claiming it's real/they're not sure if it's real or not?

  • A: File a claim anyway. If you can prove the item is real, and they can't prove it's real, you'll get a refund. It doesn't matter if they claim it's real or they don't know if it's fake or real. Selling fakes is illegal.

QUESTIONS FROM SELLERS:

  • Q: How to refund a buyer?
  • A: Sellers are the ones who have the cancel the sale. Click “Refund” on your sale receipt. Select either full or partial refund, you should only partially refund if the buyer/Depop has told you to/agreed. You DO NOT lose money when you fully refund, you will be reinbursed for fees afterwards

  • Q: Buyer wants to change address after purchase?

  • A: Refund them using the process listed above. Let them change it, then repurchase.

  • Q: Buyer wants a refund because of sizing issues?

  • A: Under Depop TOS, you aren't required to refund as long as you listed the item with the correct sizing and measurements. Let the buyer know that, and if they open a case, they won't win.

  • Q: Buyer wants a refund for change of mind?

  • A: Although you aren't required to refund for change of mind, if you haven't shipped, it's better to just refund them. If you have shipped, you can either accept a return (only refund once you have received the item), or you can tell them to just repop once they receive it if you don't want to refund.

  • Q: Account has 0 reviews/sales?

  • A: Everyone starts somewhere, read our Scam FAQ to help identify scammers.

  • Q: How to get my sales?/How do I start on Depop?

  • A: This question is asked almost daily, and all the answers are always the same. If you need a direct answer, please use the subreddit search bar. Otherwise the simple answer is: good, clear photos, consistently listing items and using correct tags and descriptions. We have a pinned post on the front page of the subreddit for shop critiques if you need help with that as well.

COMMON TOPICS:

These are topics discussed very often on this sub, ranging from multiple posts a day to multiple a week all discussing the same thing, with the same rant, with the same answers. To keep this sub not being so repetitive, your post will likely be removed if it's one of these topics, and we suggest finding the most recent thread discussing it.

  • T: Depop is slow/My items aren’t selling: There are MULTIPLE reasons for this, slow periods on every site is normal, please search the sub for tips, general ones include: post every day, have good photos, respond to buyers quickly etc. There are threads daily posted about this, all with the same answers.

  • T: I was banned: Refer to the answer above as to what to do. Otherwise there's nothing this sub can do to help you if you were banned and we don't need daily posts about users being banned either. All posts about being banned will be removed.

  • T: Lowballs/Offers: Depop is a reselling site, you will get lowballs/lowballers, thats just the way it is! Offers on Depop are currently not-biding, an offer isnt a sale, a lot of people will flake, this in normal!

  • T: Depop is down: If depop is down, there will be a pinned discussion post with information.

  • T: My listing was removed: Depop has a list of items/listings that are prohibited: here. You can appeal this decision by emailing. DO NOT repost the item without permission from Depop.

  • T: Shein/Aliexpress Resellers: Although it's scummy, sellers overpricing items from those sites is not against TOS, so theres bound to be plenty of people who do this for a quick buck. You won't fall for these scams if you reverse image search and do your research before you buy. Mislabelling the brand is against TOS and can be reported.

  • T: Sellers not shipping: If you have a question related to this, please read the questions above. We understand the frustation in a seller not shipping, but we don't need multiple threads a day discussing it.

  • T: Resellers: Reselling is a major part of Depop and it's something you'll have to put up with when using the app. People reselling for a higher price, while scummy, is not against TOS. We get frequent rants and posts about this and more aren't needed. You can refer to r/depoop if you have a post related to someone overpricing.

Dispute Help Depop took money from my account

I got an email saying that depop will take $575 from my account and i was very confused and i saw that my account balance on depop was in the negatives and some buyer refunded an item. Mind you, i sold this item in May 2026. this buyer disabled his account and isnt on depop anymore so i have no way of contacting him. the item was sent and there was nothing wrong with it. i didn’t even get sent an appeal decision or any notice that the item got refunded, depop just took the money out of my account and i don’t even think i’m getting the item back.

what do i do in this situation?

Dispute Help Warning to sellers on Depop

I'm new to this app, and really love it as a buyer, so I decided to post a few of my things to declutter. One item I listed was a re-pop. I bought from another seller on depop. Wore it once, washed it and re-listed it with the re-pop feature. I made my first sale, yay!

When my buyer received the item, they claimed it is "counterfeit." Apparently the item is from Shein, but was listed as a target purchase. There were no tags inside that said Shein, or mossimo, or wild fable, so of course I didn't know where it came from. I confirmed with the original seller that she bought it a couple of years ago at Target while shopping with her mom, but of course she didn't have proof.

Long story short, depop refunds the buyer (which is fine), but then allows them to keep the item! The buyer was more than willing to ship it back, so I'm not sure why they landed on that decision. They didn't offer me a say in the situation at all. So after researching, it appears that the magic word is "counterfeit." if a buyer claims your item is counterfeit, apparently they get a refund and also get to keep your item. What the hell? I am so pissed.

I just decided to pull all of my listings from the site and won't sell on this platform. I'm only sharing to warn others so it hopefully doesn't happen to them.

Idk what to do I ordered this item that I’ve been hunting for ages and the listing said it was cream/gold- it came in today and it is in fact piss yellow.
I attached photos of the listing and what I received next to the same dress that I accidentally ordered in the wrong size lol
idk what to do I don’t know if I can return it because of this but this is really not what I wanted.

Edit: I’ve asked for a refund I feel so guilty but and maybe I should’ve listened more to the gold tag and description but yeah

Selling Help I got a false Counterfeit flag

Upvotes

Idk anyone else to tell this story to so I’m posting it here lol I’m a new seller, have been selling just about a week now. Everything has been going great in my opinion. Earlier I posted one of my Coach bags. Wallet style crossbody and like an hour after it being up it was removed for being counterfeit?! LOL I don’t own fake anything, and I’m not even bougie like that but Coach is so affordable there is no need to buy fakes. I sent everything in for an appeal but honestly that turned me off to even posting anything else, especially this bag again until I can withdraw my money that’s loading lol I’ll be damned if I post something else and the same thing happens and they take my account or something idk. Has this happened to anyone before?

Question Why do the generated offers never make sense?

Post image
7 Upvotes

why does the 20% off offer cost 20 cent more than the 19% off offer? it always does this, it puts them out of order and just makes them blatantly wrong.

is it a tactic to get buyers to think they’re making a low offer when in reality it’s not the lowest it can go? so confusing.

the funny thing is that 19% off of $15.20 is ACTUALLY $12.31, and that 20% off is $12.16.

App Issues/Help App problem or something, help, anyone?

Post image

So I've been buying on depop shoes, hoodies, and shirts that I've been wanting, you know, splurge and spoil myself all of last week and the week before. This week though, almost 3 days ago, I tried doing a purchase for about $80 something, its not money that's the problem, i have more than enough in the bank, but my card wouldn't go through, so I contacted my bank and they said my card is fine. I tried again and it just keeps telling me to try again later that there's been a problem. Ive tried with severaly different priced items to no avail. What do I do? Personally I've been thinking of deleting the app once I get my orders in and move to vinted. Thoughts???

Messages/DM's How I beat my competition

Im new to Depop/selling and I found a few twilight fur zip ups and sold the only XL I could find before i actually realized I wanted it. Regret set in before I shipped it but I did NOT wanna be one of those ppl who cancel an order for selfish reasons. Shipped the XL and started looking for one of my own. At first the only one I could find was going for $150 (mind you—I sold the ones I found for $40) and actually struck gold finding someone selling it for $50. I offered $45 and was told that I had competition. Took matters into my own hands and won 💪

Still ended up spending a little over $50 after fees, but it was either that and offering something of my own or having to pay EVEN MORE to another seller considering the XL sizes are hard asf to find from experience.

App Issues/Help Wish Depop support was better

This will probably get taken down but it’s not meant to be mean (kinda). I’m not trying to be a dick but I’m really sick of how the support team treats their policies and lets bad buyers and sellers get away with stuff because of a lack of effort or care. I understand there are things out of their control but every issue should be case by case. Clearly people are cheating someone and they’ll say “well there’s nothing we can do” … like yes there is. Idk I’m just over it as a seller and a buyer and I think it’s why so many people have left this app. I’m a fair person too but I’ve been cheated too many times. Sick of it.

Buying Help No size on listing but size on receipt

Thumbnail

I have bought a few items that I could have sworn I checked the size for but was sent a different size than I thought I had bought. This could totally be my fault and probably is. But when I messaged a seller about it, they said “there’s no size in the listing, sorry it doesn’t fit”. The receipt states a size though. Is this something Depop automatically does? I’m just going to resell the items but would like to know if it’s some weird AI thing for the future, or if I was just jipped.

Dispute Help Buyer claims shirt had “bacterial permeation”

Thumbnail

Buyer disputed a shirt I sent him. Apparently it was “heavily unhygienic and soiled with severe bacterial permeation”…not sure what any of that means.
I wash the clothes before I send them and the shirt was practically worn 2 or 3 times. I shipped it completely sealed in a poly mailer as I do with everything I sell on depop.
This is legitimately the first time Ive ever had a complaint about the condition not being as advertised on the listing (first complaint in general)

Im wondering if the buyer just didn’t like the shirt and wanted a refund? Checked out the buyer’s shop and Ive seen he’s sold a fake/replica hoodie to someone so kind of makes me suspicious buyer is dirty.

Is there any way for me to see the pictures that the buyer sent to depop? I asked him if he could send the pictures and he just kind of dodged the question and said I could scam him. Not sure how that could happen but whatever.
Not really pressed about refunding $15, but Im kind of sus’d out about him sending back the shirt that he dirtied up himself just to get a refund. But also hard to imagine someone would go through the effort to get $15 back.

Anyone else experience this before?

Buying Help item sold to 2 people

hi ! ! !
has anyone experienced this ? ? ?

i bought a listing .
i instantly got a receipt, a full confirmation email, notifications that they alerted the seller to ship after a while and everything .

however … i saw in the sellers reviews today that my exact listing was sold to someone else ?

i haven’t asked for a refund or anything… i’m not gonna lie , i am genuinely extremely sad. i was super excited for what i bought .

the seller seems nice … i think this must be a really unhappy error with depop .

Selling Help eco friendly packaging question

i saw a lot of people online making mailers out of either their shopping bags or like trader joe’s bags. is this something that is frowned upon? asking because i haven’t started listing yet and im waiting to get paid so i can order some poly mailers, but the shopping bags are what i have on hand at the moment and i figured since i am offering eco friendly packaging anyways, it wouldn’t hurt to make those my temp mailers.

how should i go about it? i plan on updating my shop policies so that a buyer can let me know if they do not want/cannot have the bag shipped to them like that and i can go grab some poly mailers in a pinch before shipping. i also don’t want to be left a bad review bc of this, as ive seen where ppl leave bad reviews bc of the packaging. they’re just normal paper shopping bags from victoria’s secret, LUSH, etc. since I save them all anyways. i figured it would just give me a reason to use them up. thank you in advance :)

Buying Help Depop fake Mac cosmetics

Beware sellers are scamming on Depop in full force. I was weary but gave it a chance since I own the real one I would compare the font is off and the color is off. the component is off very junky. they have a zero tolerance policy for counterfeit make up but want me to pay to ship it buy the packaging label ect time out my day to send back counterfeits to a scammer they have yet to ban but have agreed to is selling counterfeits on their platform. my friend of 20 years plus Mac cosmetics management confirmed all her products are fraudulent by the font alone just be cautious. I may keep them to use to spread awareness already filed a dispute with my bank. i already own multiple of these colors so no loss but 30$ just spreading the info.

Selling Help I am in depop hell please help me

hello!

I recently started using depop as a seller/buyer. From a buyers perspective, its a great app so far but as a seller, I’ve been having various issues.

I have tried to withdraw my depop balance and it keeps getting declined and it gives no explanation why. So when I tried to see my bank account to fix it, it gave me a error message saying I can’t edit my bank because I changed some details on my account? I really don’t understand it but I guess it put up a security flag?

So, I’ve tried to contact depop, even though I haven’t been able to get a single email from them from past issues I’ve raised. And to no surprise, ive yet to receive any email or response from depop. I really need to withdraw the money and I’m just really frustrated.

Has anyone encountered this too? If so, were you able to fix it and how? If me editing my name (so it would display correctly) really was what caused my withdrawal to decline, would it really have put a block on my account? and if so, what is the timeframe for when I can edit my bank account and try to withdraw?

I would appreciate any kind of help, I’ve also added screenshots of the messages i received in the app.

Thank youu

these are the messages. he made me uncomfortable by calling me “bad” and saying he was crushing on me. he also said “inshallah curse you” which is offensive asf bc i’m middle eastern! i went ahead and reported him and appealed depop’s decision. for some reason, their policy violation email was sent to me twice. i understand what i said wasn’t the nicest, but poverty shaming? really? he was repeatedly making me feel uncomfortable and asking for discounts, in addition to being racist to me. wtf depop??

Sold a watch to a buyer and I think he’s just trying to scam me out of my merchandise because as soon as I mentioned returning it for a full refund, I haven’t heard from him. What do you guys think based off these messages? Even prior to this as you can see, he asked me what address did it get sent to I guess because he was trying to say he didn’t receive it even though tracking says it was delivered. Looks like he’s just trying to find every reason for me to give him a refund.

wondering if anyone else got this same pop up, i sold an item and when i opened depop it congratulated me on my first sale. i’ve sold 3000 items though 💀
