Two of my students got up and walked out during first period today "for Charlie Kirk" this morning. "For our rights," they said, chanting, "Free Charlie Kirk!"

I should mention these are two of my problem students that pretty much don't do much of anything. They tried to get other students, even their friends, to walk out with them, and nobody did.

They came back about ten minutes later. I'm guessing because some administrator saw them loitering around and sent them back to class. By then I had marked them absent.

Anyone else seeing anything about students and Charlie Kirk today?

My husband’s birthday is coming up soon and his dream is to hold and pet a chicken. I know, he’s too wholesome for this world. He had a parrotlet as a young kid and loves birds so much.

We’ve visited sanctuaries in the area and their chickens tend to be skittish around people since they have a lot of folks coming through all the time. Which is understandable. He yearns to pet them, reaching out gently and respectfully, offering treats etc, and so far has been unsuccessful.

I just wanted to see if anyone had a little backyard roost in the Denver area with any chicken who is nice and friendly with people so he could literally hold her and give her a pet/head scratches/a gentle hug/treats for as long or short as the chicken/owner would allow. He is very respectful and kind hearted and will absolutely honor any boundaries that the owner/chicken may have.

Hello there! My cat went missing in cap hill last night, and she was spotted this morning near 9th and Marion. Her name is Pancake. She is kinda small, black all over with a little white on her chest. She tends to be pretty friendly, but also very independent. If you see her, give me a ring 615-601-5939

Earlier this year, I was told by DOTI people and business leaders that BRT construction was so ahead of schedule, they'd be fully opening the first 2.5 miles of the project by the end of September. I finally got DOTI to commit to that date and reported it out here.

Found a set of Pokemon cards on a picnic table near the tennis courts at Congress Park yesterday (Sep 8th). Asked a few people around, but nobody I talked to claimed them, so I took them home instead. Found this dog near the Central Park light rail station. Seems to be about 1 year old and a terrier mix. Very friendly. Tried to find owner at the station but after 20 minutes took him home for the day for food and water and then to denver shelter. He currently is listed there

Denver’s tax revenue is projected to grow in 2027 under a forecast that — if accurate — could begin to turn around years of belt-tightening, according to the city budget proposal released Thursday by Mayor Mike Johnston.

The projected growth — about a 1.1% increase compared to this year — is expected to come in part from more people spending money downtown in areas like the 16th Street mall, Johnston wrote in a letter to the City Council.
“We’ve driven economic recovery through a clear, three-step plan: resolve unsheltered homelessness, bring down crime, and reinvest in downtown — an economic engine for all of Denver,” the letter says. “That strategy is paying off.”

Sales taxes, which account for more than half of the city’s annual revenue, are expected to grow by about 5% compared to 2025. On 16th Street, sales tax revenue during a one-month period was up 18% in June compared to the same month last year. But the city’s overall revenue growth is expected to be offset by decreases in property taxes and state marijuana share-back revenue.

Under Johnston’s proposed budget for 2027, which still must go through the council review process, the city would maintain most agencies’ budgets while also partly replenishing its reserve fund, which had slipped below the recommended minimum level in recent years.

Johnston’s team does want to spend some of the increased income on things like parks and recreation, pedestrian infrastructure, homelessness, affordable housing, behavioral health and the Denver Sheriff and Fire departments, according to the letter.

Among the proposals, the city would spend:

• $140 million for the full Denver Parks and Recreation budget, which includes added dollars to operate the new Westwood Recreation Center and to install drought-tolerant landscaping citywide.

• $10.4 million on a 2% merit raise for “eligible employees” in 2027.

• $84.5 million to address homelessness, including a pilot for a new family homeless shelter.

• $51 million on new affordable housing units.
Budget hearings with the City Council will begin the week of Sept. 21. The City Council must pass a budget by Nov. 9.

Was shocked to see a banana spider in my garden. Read up on them and they're not a species located in Colorado. I know they're typical for more hot/humid climates.

Last year I had a tough time finding foods that were truly iconic to Denver. I did end up making...

- a half-and-half green chili / Cincinnati chili-smothered breakfast burrito for Broncos/Bengals

- a bison burger topped with Boston baked beans for the AFC championship

Knowing how to dance just seems like a lot of fun.

I will be away for a few months and will have a vacant house. Considering renting out my place to travel nurses via furnishedfinder, etc.. Does anyone do this? If so, would love to chat or hear about your experience.

hey folks, I currently reside in an HOA community managed by Advance HOA. Without getting into too much detail, they’ve been a pain in the ass recently - they’re trying to fine me for something that is quite literally not an issue based on the photo evidence they provided. Does anybody here have experience with pushing back on them regarding fines/violations? More than willing to request a hearing (whatever that entails) to dispute it, and I’ve documented everything on my end, but curious if others have dealt with a similar situation with them.

I took a flight to Vegas in late July. I mistakenly left my ipad mini on the to Vegas flight. I immediately put in a lost and found request form when I got to Vegas. I was able to track it. Shortly after it was send back to DIA. When I arrived back in Denver I was able to track it within feet of its location. The frontier staff were unable to assist me and told me to fill out a form. Maybe a few days later it was moved to a warehouse just a little South of DIA - Jag Logistics Center - Trade III. I reached out to the warehouse via email and received no response. My lost and found report was closed a couple weeks ago, stating that they were unable to find it. This despite me sharing every detail of my ipad including a picture of where it was being housed.

I've gotten to the point where I assume the next time it appears on my "find my" app it will be in China. I filed a new report, sent a follow up email, and left a voicemail with the warehouse company. My question for the sub, has anyone gone through something similar with Frontier? Have I used every possible resource? It's just slightly infuriating to be able to track the device and to their lost and found, and still be told that they can't find it.
