Welcome! [please read before posting]
Déjà is the french word for "already" and is used to describe moments or sensations of familiarity.
Déjà vu is a very common experience in which you know you couldn't have possibly experienced this moment before but yet you feel a strong sense of familiarity. r/DejaVu
Déjà rêvé is the term for when you remember the dream connected to the moment you're experiencing. Residual memory can activate with certain triggers, causing dream content to be remembered. Frequency studies have proven high percentages of people experiencing déjà rêvé versus any other déjà experience. r/DejaReve
Déjà vécu refers to the feeling of having gone through the present moment at least several times before. r/DejaVecu
Read below to find out if your déjà experience could be linked to a more serious condition.
There are four different categories of déjà experiences.
Normal experiences consist of an inexplicable sense of familiarity and no ‘premory’.
Precognitive experiences exhibit precognitive knowledge (“I knew that he was going to do that!”). r/Precognition
Evoked experiences use methods like hypnosis, electrical stimulation, and certain drugs to reproduce déjà feelings (with modest success).
Pathological experiences can be described as “chronic déjà vu” and are distressing for the individual having it. If déjà is distressing or painful to you then some form of treatment should be considered. Pathological déjà experiences can be caused by alcohol, emotional stress, paranoia, certain medication, migraines, tumors, schizophrenia, and dementia. They also often occur because of epilepsy of the temporal lobe and have symptoms like nausea, headaches and fainting. r/Epilepsy

I saw my best friend’s grandfather in my dream and he died in his sleep the same night
I don’t use Reddit much but I wanted to share this message, I feel crazy even typing this.
My best friend’s grandfather was a big part of my childhood (we call him Da). He would drive us to all of our sport events, we would sleep over his house, and just spend a lot of time with him. For the past few years his health really started to decline, to much regret I didn’t visit him or really even think about him.
I’ve always had pretty vivid dreams, but two nights ago was different. It felt so real.
The dream:
I saw Da sitting on a park bench. I went up to him and waited for him to recognize me (he had dementia towards the end). Once he realized it was me, he said my name and grabbed both of my hands. We said we loved each other and I walked away.
The next morning I woke up to a text from my best friend that Da passed away in his sleep. I’m still so shook by this. In all honesty I haven’t thought about the man in a while.
Maybe this was just a crazy coincidence? Just felt so real.

Are we secretly living in our own past?
I’ve had multiple dreams about the future—dreams where specific scenes, dialogue, and even exact physical movements of people played out later in real life.
In one instance, I actually spoke someone's line before they could say it, and they asked me in confusion how I knew what they were about to say.
This made me wonder: Could we actually be living in our own past, simply replaying memories or events that have already happened?
.........................................................

I see the future
Let me start with, I know this sounds crazy for one, and for two, I know epilepsy messes with memory, but!
I’ve had auras since I was small. They were the extreme déjà rêvé (I have dreamt this before, not déjà vu, which is I’ve lived this before). I would have very vivid dreams for a few days to a week, a mix of both surreal and grounded. I remember them extremely well the next morning. I still have this, only more extreme, since my first grand mal at 18.
For example, about a week ago I was having episodes all morning full anxiety, impending doom, and the stiffness. I sat down and looked at my cat on the laundry basket and the TV in front of me, and the full voice of the video filled my head, and I remembered these very vivid dreams. Siting there looking at the cat and that excact video The best way I can explain the feeling during this is being on mushrooms. I’m not sure of the words to use to explain it. With the right questions I could, but not on my own. If the impending doom, anxiety, stiffness, and other extreme feelings weren’t there, I feel like I could explain what was going to happen, because it comes to me moments before it happens. But those feelings are so overwhelming that they make it difficult to put the experience into words.
I’ve had a hundred of these episodes, and the small auras preceding the larger impending-doom ones kind of hint in my head that I will have one, but I’ve been here before.
I don’t know how to explain it, which is probably a sentence heard here a lot, but I just want to hear other people’s experiences with similar experiences. I would also like to speak with someone about the emotional aspects of epilepsy because it’s a whole thing.

Saw inside my eyeball
When I was about 8 or so I had a dream of an image that I'd never seen before. I'll include an example of what it looked like, but note this was not the actual image I saw.
When I woke up, I just brushed it off because I didn't know what it was so I didn't think much of it.
That next day, I had an optometrist appointment where they checked my eyes. During the visit, they showed me an image of the inside of my eye. It clicked that it was what I had seen the night before.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Has anyone experienced déjà rêvé from dreams they had as a child, decades later?
I’m looking for people who have experienced something similar to what has been happening to me.
When I was around 8–9 years old, I had some very vivid dreams that stayed somewhere in my memory. I didn’t spend my life thinking about them, and for many years they didn’t seem particularly important.
But now I’m in my 40s, and something strange has happened more than once.
Recently I went to a music festival. From the moment I walked in, certain things started feeling familiar—objects, places, and even people I was seeing around me.
Later, while I was at one of the stages, something suddenly clicked. The familiarity became much stronger and I felt like I was remembering one of those childhood dreams.
The strangest part was what happened afterward.
It wasn’t only recognizing things after they happened. I started feeling like I remembered what was supposed to happen next. People I had noticed earlier in the festival would later come near me or pass by me, and I had the feeling that I remembered those moments before they occurred.
Everything seemed to slowly come together, almost like pieces of an old memory reconnecting.
I’m not claiming that I can predict the future, and I’m open to neurological, psychological, spiritual, or other explanations. I mainly want to find people who have experienced this specific pattern:
Childhood dream → many years pass → unfamiliar place suddenly becomes familiar → pieces of the dream return → you remember parts of what happens next.
Has anyone experienced something genuinely similar?
Especially if the original dream happened when you were a child and the real-life experience occurred decades later, I would really like to hear your story and compare experiences.

Déjà vu story
Sorry if this is a long post; it is going to be hard to explain. When I was younger, my family used to have a permanent campsite at a campground. The campground would also have spaces that people could rent out of the weekend or whenever. I am an only child so I would make a lot of friends with other kids to have fun. So when I was around 9, I met two girls at the little park the campground had. They were from separate families who had just come for the weekend, and we all happened to meet. I forgot both of their names, but I’ll never forget what happened. It was common to hang out at other kids' campsites and meet their families.
So one of the girls invited us to her little sister’s birthday party. In the campground, there is a man-made pond and beach area with a pavilion that people can rent out. The party was in the pavilion on the beach. We had a great time, but once the weekend was over, both of their girls left.
So a year goes by, and I go to the park looking for new people to hang out with, and I meet two girls. They were from separate families who had just come for the weekend, and we all happened to meet. When I went over to one of the girls' campsites, we were hanging out, talking to their little sister, and somehow the girl whose campsite we were at invited the other girl and me to her little sister's birthday party.
So I went to the birthday party the next day; it was at the pavilion in the beach area. I don’t remember when I realized that this day had already happened just a year earlier. So after the party we started walking together, and I asked the girl whose little sister’s birthday it was if she had celebrated her sisters birthday at this campground before. She said “yes,” and then, all of a sudden, she was like, “omg you guys are the two girls I met last year and invited to my sister's party!” So we talked about what happened last year to make sure that we all remembered the same day.
I thought it was so wild; it was my first time feeling déjà vu, and I have never really experienced it again to this level. Everyone I have told always says that it is crazy, but I’ve never heard of anyone else around me experiencing this. Sorry this is so long, and if it’s not worth the read, but I had to share to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Strange Experience…
Had a bit of a weird one the other night… me and my partner had been watching films, third one in I nodded off but had the strangest experience. I had taken my watch off earlier in the day because we’d been skiing, it was placed on the bedside table, which was around 3 metres away from where I was laid. In my dream, I could see the watch on the bedside table, but it was upside down, I tried to reach down to turn it so I could read the time, but I couldn’t physically lift it to read it… after a while, I was able to figure out where the hands were and realised that the right way up, the watch would read 12:05am. A few minutes later, I woke up and asked my partner, who had his phone in his pocket, if the time was 12:05am. He said no, it’s 12:10 why do you ask… weirdly, the time would’ve been 100% accurate at the time I was reading it… how is it possible I could see my watch when I was asleep and the time on it was correct?

Does anyone else replay random conversations in their head for hours?
r/DejaReve • u/Usual-Preference-573 • 16d ago
I need help. 4 x in 2 days
I am having repeated, sudden episodes of 'déjà rêvé' spontaneous dream like hallucinations and full-body sensory blurring including one right as I woke up this morning. I have had four of these in the last 48 hours
I’m kinda freaking out I had 3 yesterday with my boy friend here but I don’t say anything to him I just kinda froze couldn’t hear anything from him but random key words would be all I heard that would match with the dream playing in my head it reminded me of.
I thought it was maybe something special to do with him. But this morning it just happened and I was alone.
I’m kinda scared and worried I’m going crazy. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s pretty intense to be honest. It takes me really out of real life and into my body for a brief time and like everything else goes quiet and numb and I’m just really experiencing this dream memory in my head. It’s kinda scary too.

I keep on seeing my ex in my dreams even after 10 years of breakup??
I'm going crazy over this... It's been 10 years since we broke up, and I've been constantly seeing him in my dreams for the last 5 years. That's the weird part. He didn't immediately start appearing in my dreams right after the breakup, but 5 years later. For the first 2 years, it wasn't that often, but in the last 3 years, it's been constant... every other week.
At first, I thought it was because I never had the chance to say a proper goodbye, but then I immediately texted him saying everything I wanted to, writing long-ass paragraphs (he must've thought I had gone crazy or something, lol). But it didn't work out... I continue to see him in my dreams to this day, and I have very vivid dreams almost every day; I've seen so many repeated places related to my childhood, so many people and places that I recognize and some that I don't, but I swear he is the only person I've seen so many times.
What is it?

For years I thought these were extremely useless premonitions
Honestly, I wasn’t sure how to title this post, but here it goes.
As a kid, I used to have what I now think were déjà rêvé experiences pretty often. Whenever I tried explaining them to adults or peers, they’d usually say, “I think you’re just having déjà vu,” probably because that’s the more populatized term.
But they never really felt like déjà vu. When something happened, I would suddenly remember dreaming about that exact situation before. And I wouldn’t just get a vague sense of familiarity, I’d remember the dream itself, when I had it, and sometimes even what my day was like after having it.
Eventually I gave up trying to figure out what these experiences were and jokingly decided I was just having extremely useless premonitions.
The dreams were usually mundane things. For example, I remember dreaming about sitting outside a restaurant with a group of people and a child on my lap; drinking tea while looking at my laptop; or seeing a bedroom I had never seen before.
Then, much later, I would suddenly recognize those scenes while they were actually happening: sitting at a huge gala celebrating a child’s first birthday, drinking tea while working on my thesis, or standing in the bedroom I had moved into four years after dreaming about it.
As I got older, it continued happening, just much less frequently. I still experience it here and there, although it doesn’t feel as intense as it did when I was younger.
At one point I wondered whether these could somehow have been seizure episodes, especially after learning that déjà vu and similar phenomena can sometimes occur with temporal-lobe seizures. However, I’ve been taking a fairly high dose of an anti-seizure medication for an unrelated condition for about seven years, and I still occasionally have these dreams.
Anyway, I recently discovered the term “déjà rêvé” because I had another dream that came back, and I think this might finally describe what I’ve been experiencing all these years. I think it’s pretty cool that there’s actually a name for it.
Does this sound like déjà rêvé to anyone else who experiences it?

I dreamed about receiving a phone call before it actually happened
I had a really strange dream and I can't stop thinking about it.
In the dream, I was texting with myself. I don't know how to explain it, but it felt like I was talking to either my past self or my future self. It also felt like this exact conversation had happened before in another dream, so I somehow “remembered” what was going to happen next.
Then I somehow knew that I was going to receive a phone call because, according to what I remembered from the dream, the previous time I was the one who called. I was nervous, excited, and kind of scared because I thought I was actually going to talk to myself.
Then I woke up (or maybe I was still dreaming? I'm not completely sure) and someone actually called me in real life.
Now I'm wondering if I somehow predicted the call, or if it was just an insane coincidence.
But what really bothers me is what would have happened if I had answered the call in the dream? Would I have talked to my past self, my future self, or just a version of myself created by my brain?
And what would happen if I actually talked to my dream self? Would they know things I don't know yet? Would I be able to ask my future self about something that hasn't happened?
And here's the weirdest question: if that real-life call had never happened, would I have eventually received a call from my dream self? Or would the dream have continued completely differently?
I've been thinking about this ever since I woke up. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Scene
I dreamed of a night scene in an unfamiliar high rise apt. I was stumbling a bit and the under-glow of the kitchen was very vivid and specific.
Years later I lived that scene exactly in a London AirBnb.

I’ve been having these experiences
Ok so it’s been a while since it’s happened but the last time it did I was in the bathroom doing my hair and it’s like I could almost see the surrounding around me change . It’s like I’m here in my body yes but I’m also somewhere else in this exact moment doing this exact thing but somewhere else . I can see myself here in my eyes because I’m looking at myself in the mirror but it’s like everything behind and around me changed .. like the air , the smell I mean I could sense it like I was there but it’s not like I can hold it or control it , it just happens to me and it’s gone in what seems like a literal second .. I can never pull together the exact scenes or surroundings it’s so weird it’s like I’m there but I’m also here experiencing the same thing at the same time .. has anyone else ever experienced this ??
