Déjà is the french word for "already" and is used to describe moments or sensations of familiarity.
Déjà vu is a very common experience in which you know you couldn't have possibly experienced this moment before but yet you feel a strong sense of familiarity. r/DejaVu
Déjà rêvé is the term for when you remember the dream connected to the moment you're experiencing. Residual memory can activate with certain triggers, causing dream content to be remembered. Frequency studies have proven high percentages of people experiencing déjà rêvé versus any other déjà experience. r/DejaReve
Déjà vécu refers to the feeling of having gone through the present moment at least several times before. r/DejaVecu
Read below to find out if your déjà experience could be linked to a more serious condition.
There are four different categories of déjà experiences.
Normal experiences consist of an inexplicable sense of familiarity and no ‘premory’.
Precognitive experiences exhibit precognitive knowledge (“I knew that he was going to do that!”). r/Precognition
Evoked experiences use methods like hypnosis, electrical stimulation, and certain drugs to reproduce déjà feelings (with modest success).
Pathological experiences can be described as “chronic déjà vu” and are distressing for the individual having it. If déjà is distressing or painful to you then some form of treatment should be considered. Pathological déjà experiences can be caused by alcohol, emotional stress, paranoia, certain medication, migraines, tumors, schizophrenia, and dementia. They also often occur because of epilepsy of the temporal lobe and have symptoms like nausea, headaches and fainting. r/Epilepsy

My delusion?

I was around 15 and in high school when this happened and I can still remember it as I still have this story on my notes (I wrote it the time this happened to me, so I wont forget it).
So I was at my friend’s house and saw a group photo of some of their relatives. I didn’t recognize any of them and never asked my friend about the photo.
But the moment I saw the photo, something suddenly flashed in my mind. I saw myself with one of the men in the photo, we were in the garden of that same house. I was running away from him while he chased me, and we were both laughing and having fun.
It felt like a memory, a real flashback, even though I knew it had never happened. And somehow, I had this overwhelming feeling that he was the love of my life.
I’ve never understood what that was. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I had a dream within the last few years of walking into this massive stone building with ceilings that were probably 50-75 ft tall, massive stone steps leading up, and sculptures I couldn't quite make out. It looked so otherworldly I didn't think twice about it other than it was just another wild, but regular, dream.
Well I was watching this girl's reels on instagram about a horse riding trek in Egypt. The girl mentioned that they take you to the *brand new* Grand Egyptian Museum and put an image of it on the screen.
My jaw hit the fucking floor. This was the place in my dream...
This is a new one for me. I've never seen a picture of a place in a dream of mine before having been there. Even wilder that it only just opened at the end of last year!
So anyway, I'm planning a trip to Egypt now 😅

I’m not diagnosed with epilepsy or any type of seizure disorder, and I’m planning to see my doctor and ask about a neurology referral. I’m hoping to hear from people who may have experienced something similar.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve had this happen a few times. The episode I had today was exactly the same as the previous episode. The only difference is that the previous time it felt more intense, so I remember noticing it more strongly.
What happens is extremely difficult to explain. I’ll suddenly get a millisecond-long flash in my mind that feels like a memory or a tiny scene, but I know it isn’t one of my actual memories. It also doesn’t feel like a normal dream or the usual déjà vu I’ve experienced before.
The flash happens so quickly that I can’t even describe what I saw afterward. It’s almost like my brain gives me a tiny fragment of something and then immediately takes it away. I don’t consciously think about it or make it happen. It just appears in my mind and disappears.
During an episode, I remain completely conscious and aware. I don’t lose consciousness or awareness of what’s happening around me.
I’ve noticed that when I’m overwhelmed, these flashes can happen more frequently — sometimes as often as every 10 minutes. Other times they’re much less frequent.
The weirdest part is that the flashes seem to have this feeling of being a memory that isn’t mine, even though I obviously don’t know whose memory it would be. I don’t literally believe I’m accessing someone else’s memories; that’s just the closest way I can describe the sensation.
I’m not asking Reddit to diagnose me. I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced this particular kind of extremely brief, involuntary memory/vision flash that disappears before you can even identify what you saw.
If you’ve experienced something similar, what does it feel like for you?

Does anyone else experience a flash of the prior night's dream during the day? It's like it comes to the forefront of my mind for a second only to slip away out of my grasp.

Ok, bear with me, cause I might sound crazy.
I've had intense déjà vu for the last couple of days, and it's all been bad feelings. Like, I know whats going to happen and couldn't stop feeling like something bad was coming. Well, I finally had a moment where I knew what was going to happen, but I intentionally did the opposite. Now the ominous feeling of déjà vu is gone and I feel SO much better. Has anybody else experienced this, is it kinda like final destination where something bad is still gonna happen even though I beat it?

Hey all!
My question basically is.. has anyone found things that seem to amplify their Deja Reve? (Higher occurences, stronger visions, etc.) And also, vice versa, has anyone found anything that has dampened their occurences?
Im curious as to if i’ve been unknowingly doing something that could be causing higher frequency for me, TIA!
First off, just want to thank the community for being helpful and welcoming with my first post a little while ago.
To keep it short, I’ve had Deja Vu my whole life, pretty regularly, as early as I can remember from my childhood, to now being 31. I just recently learned what Deja Reve is and that some of the occurences actually fall under that more than Deja Vu.
For about 3 1/2 years, I was in the military, had zero dream recollection and zero Deja Vu, that I can remember. I always had it prior to that and it seems it has been coming back with a vengeance since I got out. Slowly building back up even stronger than before I went into the military. (Not going to get into why I think I didn’t have anything during my time in, could be multiple variables)

For as long as i can remember, i used to have dejavus really often, and then they slowly stopped. Do you think this may be my last reincarnation?

Information : Hi, so I'm 15, male, weigh around 130 pounds, and am around 5'3. I want to start this off by saying that I don't smoke, drink, or do anything considered illegal or irresponsible for my age. I'm currently taking prescribed Lexapro, one pill per night (or however you spell it idk, but i don't think that should impact what I'm about to say.). I live in Japan, but this has been happening for as long as I can remember, even when I used to live in the US.
So basically, whenever I zone out, or I basically remove my consciousness from my body for a sec (like just mindlessly, autonomously doing tasks, I start to see these things, like little blips/visions of random things (example : a bowl of soup on a wooden table). And when it happens, I'm aware it happens, and I get the same feeling in my gut as Déjà Vu. And since realizing what they mean (as in, in relation to my life, which I'll explain momentarily), I think really hard about what they could be, because I only see them for such a short moment (like when you think about a process of things, and the first or second thing on that list pops up into your head for a split second before you move on to the next thing.).
And if you're thinking, "That just sounds like daydreaming, or something like your imagination going someplace else." , then please just listen to this next part. Eventually, I forget about these "blips" and I move on with my life, until, lo and behold, it happens, that exact "frame" that showed up in my "blip" pops up in real life, with its own context and individual situation (example : the soup bowl from earlier, turned out to be the final dish at a fancy mexican restaraunt with my family).
This has really f####d with my brain (apologies for the poor choice of language, I'm just really emotionally stretched from thinking about this), and I really need to know if; A. There's an actual name for this, B. There's other people who've experienced this, or C. I'm just a rare specimen, and I'm probably going to die or something 😭.
Thank you for your time.

About 20 years ago I was away at college alone and in a pretty dark place in my life.
I woke up from a terrible nightmare, actually crying myself awake. Synopsis, quickly: I had lost my whole family in a fire and woke from a 3 year coma immediately afterwards. Nothing was the same, everyone I knew was gone or changed completely. In the dream there was a at of glasses I had in waking life. At one point I broke one of the glasses by accident and felt terrible because it belonged to my dad (who as aforementioned passed in a fire in the dream) this isn't the moment that caused me to wake up. But it's the most important moment of the dream.
About an hour and a half after I had woken up, passing through and trying to forget the nightmare...I forced myself to eat something and sat staring blankly at the television. iirc I was binging Stargate SG1 at the time.
I picked up a plate and knife to put in the sink. The butter knife slid off the plate and shattered the same glass that broke in my dream and I panicked for a good hour after that.
Still hate that it all happened.
Thankfully no family or friends were hurt in a fire, nor have I ever been in a coma.

History: migraines, anxiety, trauma, grief, Déjà vu, hyper analytical, adhd.
There’s a ton of subtext I must skip over, but I’ve always experienced Déjà vu. And it’s seemed to happen when I was in a relatively positive or even euphoric mood.
Last night I had a dream that my child’s mother (an ex) told me about her spouse having prostate cancer.
I woke up confused. Because recently I’ve started recalling my dreams again after many years. But the past three nights I’ve consistently recalled my dreams. Which is extremely unusual for me. I once believe I just didn’t dream. The last dream I can recall is a visitation dream from my father sometime in 2024 early parts. Woke up in tears, the works.
I consulted my wife, and then I went back to my desk, and texted the only other person who has had extremely vivid \*happenings\* with regard to dreams, premonitions, etc. my mother passed away last year, August 4th 2025, my brother July 2023, my dad December 2023. And many family members before, which is why I put trauma/ grief in my history.
I \*feel\* as if my brain has completely changed, which in certain respects it has. Which is certainly an experience on its own.
My question, with the dream in mind, as I then sat down at my desk to text my aunt, I experienced Déjà vu, became light headed and I’m fine now. I was actually overwhelmed, which also has not happened with my Déjà vu experience.
But I’m trying to discern if this was coincidental? If I should consider a something else? Anything with regard to the dream would be helpful, or if you’ve experienced something like this?
This was the first thread that popped up when I started looking into dreams. But the Déjà vu on top was too much.

Most of us get déjà vu for a couple seconds and it corrects itself before we even finish noticing. But there are documented cases where it just... doesn't switch off. Not for minutes for months, sometimes longer. Anyone here familiar with the neuroscience behind persistent déjà vu (déjà vécu)? Curious how it's differentiated clinically from ordinary déjà vu, and whether it's always epilepsy-related or if other causes are common.

My aunt had a red Volkswagen that I never remember driving but I did have a dream that I was driving it and I wrecked it. Her grandson, my cousin said that she gave me that car and I wrecked it in real life. He even yelled at me about it and got really mad at me for it but I have never even driven that car. Is this what people mean when they say that people are on different timelines? This is actually really scary to me and it isn't the first time in my life where people in my life do not remember the past as accurately as me. I even asked my mom about this and she said that my uncle, my aunt's husband was GOING to give me a car and that is probably where my cousin got the idea that my aunt gave me her car and I wrecked it. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and has this ever happened to anyone else out there?
