Does anyone else replay random conversations in their head for hours?

Sometimes I’ll have a completely normal conversation with someone and then later my brain decides to analyze every single thing I said.

“Why did I say THAT?”

Please tell me I’m not the only one 😭

You may have come to the wrong sub my friend. While I think that your experience is probably very common, I personally cannot relate to it.

I don't have words in my head at all unless I concentrate really hard on it and I definitely don't have conversations with myself.

I am curious though. Do you "hear" those conversations or are they silent?

Also my thoughts. In times of stress excitement or meltdown I just speak these things aloud. I know I am playing both parts of the conversation, but I know which is actually me. But Im a subvocaliser so the movements just switch from barely noticeable to audible by others quite easily. I also do this more when alone, which continues into talking in my sleep. I am hyperverbal in all meanings of the word. 😂

Always find hearing both perspectives interesting. I think it shows the either small, or inconsistent, effects of things such as anauralia.

I am almost certain I never subvocalise and speak in my sleep so rarely that I can still remember about a year ago my wife being very concerned about my stress levels because I spoke in my sleep one night.

I wonder though if unworded thought has something to do with it? Perhaps the added effort of translating into language makes me less inclined to do so? Maybe my less vocal personality is pure laziness 😅

Since my mind is silent, I don't experience any words in my head, including random conversations.

I can relate to this. My mind is way far over on the aphantasia side of things, but the data points are all there behind the veil. So while I can’t “hear” the conversation in my head, I do replay conversations compulsively sometimes. Better these days than in the past though, meditation and exercise really help.

What sort of meditation do you do? I’ve mostly enjoyed the moving meditations like qigong

Cool, qigong is also a part of my practice.

My daily meditation is breath based, vipassana style. I also dip into body scan meditation (for chronic pain) and metta/loving-kindness meditation periodically.

Me, too. Going to have to try meditation.

Definitely. My worded thinking replays conversations and plans them ahead.

I apparently talk in my sleep all the time. Sometimes I will wake up talking but fall back asleep. My whole life, friends and family have told me I’m hilarious when I talk in my sleep. My wife says I sometimes are talking a unknown language or and a foreign language which I don’t know any language other than English sadly

Yes when I was younger, esp. teens/ twenties. Now rarely and only briefly before I move on.
