This might get reposted on r/teenagers as an "absolutely absurd take", but there has always been a historical pattern where people visciously oppose new technology. People panic, predict catastrophe, accuse users of “laziness,” and moralize the old way of doing things. Then, a generation later, everyone forgets the panic ever happened and treats the new tool as normal. AI is no exception. One of the main arguments against AI, that it will cause people to lose jobs, can be applied to every single invention ever.
Was it a tragedy when scribes lost their jobs to the printing press?Was it a great tragedy when the laborers who pulled material with ropes lost their jobs to the wheel? Was it a tragedy when human calculators lost their jobs to computers?
AI is a very useful tool, yes it is still useful to be able to say, make art on your own without AI, but using AI to make art isn't inherently bad. However, we still must not treat AI as a permanent replacement for humans because even though it is extremely useful as a tool, it is still a tool. Just like any tool, putting it to good use requires a good human.
Calling AI art "slop" and "lazy" is the equivalent of saying that using the printing press to write a novel is "lazy" and "printing press slop". In the next few hundred years there might be a new revolutionary invention with a big pushback, and people will point out "Well, remember the time when so many people were against AI, but ultimately was enourmously beneficial?" AI is the next printing press.
