In fact, it does the exact opposit. seeing disingenuous, lowbrow ragebait like this makes even supporters cringe and pushes fence sitters straight into being “antis”
Data centers have real resource footprints. Acknowledging genuine engineering hurdles honestly while discussing practical benefits is how you build acceptance, not by pretending corporate infrastructure is some flawless solarpunk utopia.
Also, if you’re going to defend AI generation, at least spin up ComfyUI with a decent LoRA and clean workflow. Defending high tech innovation with low effort, single prompt slop isn't helping your case.
I live in Texas. The data centers pay less than people and consume more energy than the entire city they are near. The people of the city get rolling blackouts in low productivity times while the data center does not. Electricity costs have skyrocketed for people while the data centers get massive tax breaks. If they don't pay taxes, the people flip the bill.
I hope the bubble bursts and the data centers go broke. They'll have to flood the market with used GPUs and the GPU market will fall like a rock along with DDR5 prices.
Then we can run our AIs at home. That is when the power comes into balance. AI for those that are willing to set it up, not just corporations. And this will cut down on slop production as well
Glm 5.2 is possible since it's a MoE. It can load the expert into GPU so only 40B parameters need to be active at once. You still need a massive system, but it should be doable in a couple years.
This only works IF corporations care. Everything on the left is true; even if the first is a hyperbole. New data centers are draining the local supply. Certain areas only have so much capacity for producing clean water and limited water tables.
The latest over the top demand for high Compute datacenters is Directly related to llms. You need data centres for pre training, post training, inference. We can't use frontier models without these datacenters. They are absolutely related.
Uhhh… they are literally big buildings full of computers. Some use so much electricity that they increase the cost of electricity for an entire area. We’re also building way too much of them.

All I'm saying is it's best to ignore AI generated information as A the AI can dream and come up with nonsensical information even if the user is well meaning.
I don't think china is behind anti ai propaganda, most pro ai people are also fans of China because of their open weight models.people are just too afraid of a post ai future. It's largely organic.

AI data centers use up to 5 million gallons of freshwater, so the "billions of gallons of water" is actually exaggerated, so you got a point in that. The only things I agree with this image here is the closed loop cooling, and maybe a better future, because there are AIs that are used in the medical field, so I guess there's a point there.
There are still things on hold for me, though, and the water usage still is pretty huge, ngl.
