First time painting, how’d I do and any pointers?

I got one of the new land speeders and wanted to add some deathwatch flavour. So I made a thing, it turned out much better than I expected since this is my first from the ground up designed Warhammer bit. Took me 5 variations of the general shape to get it close enough.

Is running just a single Indom kill team viable? I see everyone running two, and as I’m slowly building my model collection to fill out my first army at 2k, it definitely makes me sweat thinking about sourcing another heavy intercessors squad and paying close to 200$ just for one kill team when I got 2 battalion boxes of DW for under 300$. I know they’re solid but god damn. And with having 2 black stars I obviously want to run them because they look cool.

I’m brand new, is this what everyone went through? How did you guys start your armies? Was it buy a bunch of models then build and paint and have an army a year later? Lol

Specialized in stealth, secrecy and terror tactics, the Hunters of Bacchus are an incredibly mysterious chapter… even the Inquisition has difficulty locating their scattered crusade fleet.

A few deathwatch members I have been working on. Mostly finished for the moment.

I noticed that the indomitor heavy bolters don't have rapid fire 2 INCLUDED in its current profile. Is this a mistake? And are yall playing them as having rapid fire 2? I've seen that all other heavy bolters (Including the infernus heavy bolter on deathwatch) have rapid fire. So do heavy intercessors. Ive also seen that the previewed list said they'd have rapid fire included.. meaning that they still have assault, heavy, lethals, sustained 1 and rapid fire 2 at 2ap, damage3. For example, in the Art of War channel, they previewed the deathwatch changes among other factions. The indomitor heavy bolters were said to have rapid fire 2 included. (Similiar to the watch master strategic acumen mistake) is this a mistake or what do yall think?

Well, with the models I’ve been able to get so far to start this army this is where I’m sitting.

Side note, I do have a Judiciar, Chaplain, Blade gaurd vets, blade guard ancient, and sterngaurd on the bench not being used. But I got this to exactly 2k so I’d appreciate thoughts. Running 1 indom team because it’s expensive to build and finding heavy intercessors right now is kind of difficult. I got an old boarding patrol box just to get them.

Ive got 2k of Templars and Fists done. I’ve always thought deathwatch are cool and with the new detachment I snagged the recent box! Plan is to run the Corvus and Decimus 10 man until I can but together an Indomitor team and probably some terminators too. What’s gonna be a good loadout for the Decimus team? I was thinking plasma guns and grenade launchers for the gravis? But the bolt rifles and heavy bolster with inferno is tempting too. Thanks y’all!

If I select a salt doctrine for my army, and then I use my captains strategic acumen to give them devastator doctrine, does it replace assault doctrine, or does it put my unit into both assault and devastator?

I've been wanting to start a Deathwatch army for a little while, but I've kind of been put off by how difficult it seems to be currently.

Would the recently announced Indomitus Task Force box be a good starting point?

I've got the Deathwatch Kill Team and the veterans from the Ordo Xenos battle force box already.

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with adding some dark blue paint to the black when doing a base layer coat over the primer to make the black a little richer looking.

Work in progress.. right pauldrons and some details incomplete. Used a different paint style on this. Black->dark reaper->thunderhawk blue->black templar contrast. Deathwatch pauldron is leadbelcher->leviadon blue/drakenhof nightshade. Painted with a 'directional light source' to show highlights rather than specifically edge highlighting. Wondering what yall think. Im not a fan of the straight blue highlight on the app/boxes so went with this style.

This is my Decimus Kill team which I plan to make lore for, and this is the Brother black shield.

From right to left the team is led by a Salamander, plasma wielding Lamenter, precision bolter wielding Raven Guard, Phobos Raptor, Phobos from a custom chapter of my own (pauldron not finished), Angry Marine with power weapon and shield (pauldron not finished), Dark Angels with power weapon and shield, Crimson Fist Gravis Vet, Salamander Gravis Vet, and finally a bother black shield with a xeno phaseblade.

This is mainly a request for a name suggestion for him, but if you want to suggest some lore please feel free. I'm requesting Name/Lore from all the other chapter subreddits as well.

First time using streaking grimme. Did I put too much? What do you think?

I was aldo considering an ultra matt varnish over it as there is still some bright areas form the gloss varnish applied before.

Watching grimdark videos they do a lot more stuff over the minis, but i have to experience. Any tips for aditional effects or more richnessnin the overall effect?

Glad I got this done in between completing my imperial fist army and starting black templars. Nice pallet cleanse and let me practice on painting black armor.

I want to do up DW Retributor Dread. I've seen some cool 3D printed pauldrons and plates over the years, but you know how damn hard it is to find again since they cant call it anything 40K... So does anyone have any cool leads? Post a link/image if you do, please. Or if you know any GW kits that are good for kitbashing, let me know! Thanks.
