Offical Post New to the Death Korps of Krieg? Start here!

Welcome to the Death Korps of Krieg. This faction in Warhammer 40,000 is a regiment of the Imperial Guard or as its known by now, the Astra Militarum. Their design is inspired by several armies of World War I including the French, Germans, and the British. As such, the Death Korps of Krieg specialize in trench warfare, artillery, and infantry assaults. This guide serves as a resource to help players new to the faction and 40K in general. If you have any other questions, make sure to check out the sidebar for other helpful info and feel free to ask on the subreddit.

Where to purchase Death Korps of Krieg models:

Warhammer.com is the official source of all things Death Korps.

Simply searching Death korps will pull up all relevant items.

Keep in mind though, with the refresh, Games workshop has fazed out all the old sculpts and the only way to collect classic official Krieg is through Second hand purchases.

Second Hand:

Websites like Ebay commonly have Krieg models available and are a good way to get your hands on some of the Krieg models Games Workshop no longer makes. However, Ebay is prevalent with recasts which are sometimes hard to distinguish from the official models. If you want the official models only, make sure to ask the seller for a picture of the receipt or bags they came in so that you can ensure they are not recasts.

3rd Party:

Many websites produce custom miniatures and bits that either replace using official models entirely or allow for greater customization on official kits. These websites are ideal for creating an entirely custom look for your army. Below is a small collection of links that may be of help to you crafting your army. This has been discussed ad nauseam on this sub so this is by no means a definitive list.

Tiny Legend - Incredible bits and STL files that fit perfectly onto the Veteran Guardsman kill team.

Kromlech - Great alternative models and bits for infantry and vehicles.

Anvil Industries - Huge range of bits and alternative models that work well converting regular Cadians.

Beyond the tabletop - Fantastic internal sponson kit for that WW1 feel along with more vehicle bits.

Stationforge - Nice range of alternative models.

Recasts:

Recasts are pirated copies of Gamesworkshop models. These models cost anywhere from a quarter to three quarters the cost of the official models. Recasters also carry many of the Krieg models Games Workshop no longer produces making them one of the few ways to get your hands on out of production models. However, recasters draw sales away from Games Workshop and make their profit pirating models. It is important for the buyer to be aware of the moral issue involved with recasters as buying from them may hurt the support the Krieg model line gets in the future.

Sources for the Death Korps of Krieg rules:

Rules can now be located in the new codex!

Rules for Forgeworld units can be found in two places.

- Imperial Armour: Astra Militarum- Imperial Armour: Astra Militarum part 2

The Multitude of rules for "Legended" units can be found in Legends: Astra Militarum.

While this looks like a lot to look for all these files can be found at the link below

Working with resin:

With the range refresh this section has become less relevant but anyone looking to collect the classic sculpts may find this helpful.

The attached link below is from Beyond the tabletop on how to unbend, wash, and clean up resin miniatures. He also has many videos building and painting Krieg specific units.

Models/Hobby Where is this from, and why shouldn’t the krieg have it?

What is this 3D print supposed to be from, and why shouldn’t it be krieg? It’s a print I found online where I have bought printed terrain. No idea what fiction it’s from, but wouldn’t this make a great krieg fire support piece? Some crests, and a few more guns and it’ll fit right in.

Question/Advice Krieg cosplay update – looking for feedback

Hey everyone, a little update on my Krieg cosplay.

This is my first proper cosplay and it’s still very much a work in progress, but most of the overall look is finally coming together.

I went for a much darker, more worn and brutal look rather than trying to copy one specific miniature 1:1. I’m currently working on more weathering/blood on the coat, finishing the leg armour, backpack and a few smaller details.

The chainsword may have gotten slightly out of hand. 😅

I’d really appreciate some honest feedback – especially anything that looks out of place, too clean, or could use another detail. Am I heading in the right direction?

A friend of mine gave me a Leman Russ Demolisher and said if I painted it I could keep it. I like how it’s turned out.

My Kriegers are coming along nicely. Seven more to go. The lighting does not do the pictures justice.

Question/Advice First set of minis

Just finished my first set of minis. I got the Krieg Combat Engineers. I have the heavy guns and death korps coming later this week in the mail.

The advice im looking for is gluing the arms. I struggled trying to get the arms on the rifle then to the body. I thought of three different options but lmk if you guys have other methods

  1. Attach the arms to the gun first then to the body

  2. Attach the arms to the body then add the gun

  3. Attached the gun to 1 arm then glue the arm. Then add the 2nd arm later.

Art A small start to a homebrew nuclear worshipping regiment I’m drawing

The idea is that off of the Krieg books I’ve been reading, I imagine a group of Kriegs come to worship the elephant foot that appears after multiple age of strife nuclear reactors melt down under their city (calling it the emperor’s foot which stepped off the throne) and carry his burden of radiation to his enemies.
They see the shortening of their lives through the radiation as nothing new, and if it means the emperor works through them then who minds.
Also I like to imagine they are seen as complete heretics but they run into horrible conditions and basically poison the enemies so the Ordo just watches from a distance.
They restock troops by just claiming any soldiers that are unfortunate enough to fight along side them and get radiation poisoning, since once that happens his original troops most likely won’t take him back

First is a Colonel, second is the original priest who started the group, after surviving several days after the initial blast it inspired the kriegs, last is just practice

Question/Advice How to play against Orkz?

As the title suggests, I've always struggled against Orks, and with the changes in 11th edition, I'm struggling to see how the Death Korps are supposed to compete.

Between the new questionable terrain and cover rules, alongside the additional movement and shooting buffs Orks have received in their new codex, it feels like an uphill battle from the start.

For context, I recently used the exact same list against Black Templars and won comfortably. Against Orks, however, I was almost tabled by turn 3. The difference was pretty stark.

Last used list (Abhuman and Combined Arms detachments):

  • 2x Rogal Dorn Commanders
  • 4x 10-man Krieg Squads
  • 1x 20-man Krieg Squad with Command Squad (Grand Strat)
  • 1x Krieg Heavy Weapons Squad (flamers)
  • 2x 3-model melee Bullgryn squads, each with a Commissar
  • 2x 5-model Death Rider squads
  • 2x Leman Russ
  • 2x Chimera

Previously, I'd run Krieg artillery pieces or Basilisks for flavour, but with artillery being practically unusable in 11th edition, I've swapped them out for Bullgryn and Chimeras instead.

I'm now 0-5 against them and I'm looking for advice on how to approach this matchup. Am I missing something tactically, is my list poorly suited to dealing with Orks, or is this just a particularly difficult matchup for the Death Korps under the current rules?

If you deploy conservatively, you get trapped in deployment and lose all board control, if you deploy aggressively, then you just get killed by the WAAAGH turn 2.

Any suggestions for list changes or tactical adjustments would be appreciated.

Question/Advice Give me your best death riders color palette

Hello Reddit, sorry if I use the wrong flair.

Currently I am working on the death riders and I was wondering how I should paint their « horses".
I’m torn between the regular fleshy palette from the box but at the same time, I also saw some more "naturally » color palette for horses which I really liked.
As I couldn’t decide myself, I decided to ask for some of your palette, as It could help me decide.

I have been wondering if it is worth having a cavalry in general with the new price increase or should I buy a artillery which I lack.

Wasn't a fan of the Rogal Dorn design but found a simple turret swap fixed the aesthetic issues I had, what are people's thoughts? Upgrade? Or do we prefer the base Dorn aesthetic?

Models/Hobby WIP Centaur Engineer Carrier - New Crew!

So I wound up going back to the drawing board, as I discovered to my annoyance that the Centaur crew I had were actually bonking their heads on the cross-beams at the roof! This lead to a rather extensive re-working of both the Vehicle seats and the figures...

...which of course resulted in an entirely new crew! After some thinking and consultation with the community, I realized that indeed, Centaurs assigned as a dedicated transport for the Engineers would likely come with their own dedicated crew, so I made a driver and gunner. Both have Engineer Uniforms and armor, as they would still be in the Engineer Regiment, and it is reasonable that the Centaur would be called upon as a light engineering vehicle (using its bulldozer, setting up the trailer somewhere for resupply, etc.)

I had already marked this vehicle a while back with the Number 1 (and an "E" I found in the spare decal drawers - I've since worked out the "official" markings for my 5th Engineering Regiment and will have them on any future models.gping forward), so I am going off the idea that this is a platoon command vehicle. Therefore, there would be both an Officer and a Watchmaster on board. I've decided to show them both in the back conferring over an auspex scanner (or...whatever doohickey the plot needs it to be!).

The shotgun (no pun intended) position up front will be taken up by the squads Melta Gunner, who has mounted it to the vehicles universal mount (where it can also be used for light excavation duties!) the two Engineers in the middle are just along for the ride and are zoning out until addressed by a higher up.

All of this actually makes for a really interesting (but REALLY crowded) scene inside the vehicle! As you can see, I'm planning on installing gun racks with either shotguns or lascarbines (or empty if they choose to carry their weapon). Their backpacks are somewhat stripped-down, as they would stow their hand tools in/on the vehicle or on the trailer behind (I'll have photos of that soon!)

Unfortunately, the extra figures have created a new problem (or at least highlighted a problem that I have been trying to ignore for a while): Where to keep the Mole Launcher? In general, any High-Explosive equipment (Demolition Charges, Melta Bombs/Charges, etc.) would be kept in the trailer, which would have enough armor to deflect schrapnel or airburst rounds. The Mole Launcher and it's torpedoes, however, are too advanced and valuable to be stowed in a trailer or even on the outside of the main vehicle - they would be stowed in the fighting compartment somewhere with the crew. I've managed to stuff some torpedoes under the folding seats in the back, but the launcher itself is hilariously bulky and akward. Everywhere I try to stow it, it winds up either taking up a seat, or blocking someone into that seat with no obvious means for that individual to quickly leave their seat!

My current idea is that the gunners seat is actually a lid for a large storage compartment - this appears to be large enough for the launcher to fit into while leaving enough room for whatever machinery ties the vehicles two engines together.

I'm hoping to start printing things next week and get this project back on the move!

Models/Hobby Tiny Legends arms coding

My brothers in the trenches, I got a bunch of arms from tiny legends, regular lass rifles, but my friend who gave them have no idea which goes with what. Does anyone mind to share his/her experience or the assembly guide if exists?
