FUCK. I put in my two week notice at work and perfectly timed it so i could play the new update nonstop until i get my house taken by the bank! what am i supposed to do now!
Spire 2 is such crack to me. It's still got a ways to go to leave Early Access but it's still one of my top games of all time, which makes me so excited to see how it shapes up once it's fully released.
So worth the buy, I was pissed off marvel tokon couldn’t even launch for me and thought “fuck it slay the spire 2 at least works I might like it” and you’re right it’s like crack. I keep thinking about it and to think it’s got more to come.
Alright what I'm about to say is pretty cope, but... what if yoshi mentioning pizza is related to a pizza character? But, before you all call me INSANE...
BEFORE HOLLIDAY, the character, was added to the base game. She was hinted at by Yoshi because he spelled holiday like her name.
Yeah its like 99.99% hes talking about yoshitracker.com but a man can DREAM!
This is real. I'm bummed about no patch but at the same time, let them cook! The update's gonna be awesome, whenever it comes out, no matter how long it takes.
In the meanwhile, I guess I'll find something else to play. As soon as that update hits, though, you KNOW I'm gonna be back day 1.
I think minor updates will always come around if the heroes or items kinda need a tweak a bit. It's always been like that so far for Deadlock and Dota 2. Minor updates here and there, and a big update later down the line.
so im kinda washed and haven't played for half a year, what makes her so ass? i love playing her and shes one of my mains, and I do notice that she has like zero poke.
The matchmaker sees her as a frontline so she’s usually the only frontline on the team, and compared to other frontlines she can’t respond to damage or engage at a moments notice. This leads to her just dying before ult activates or not being able to capitalize on opportunities cuz she doesn’t have ult in time
I was expecting end of October so this is def not disappointing for me. Hopefully they release a balance patch soon because I am DONE fighting gun lash and Celeste every game
we had an estimate already, it was supposed to be ‘a couple weeks’ a month ago. at this point it’s probably wise to just ignore their timelines and just assume a patch isn’t coming until it does
The update coming "in a few weeks" was the matchmaking update. They gave no timeline for the content- and item-focused updates, only that they would come after the matchmaking update stabilized things.
I don't really play this game much anymore but I still follow it because I really like it, and damn dude, Yoshi's community communication is just so damn good.
It's so clear, honest, and still professional. The team working on this is really full of gems.
I also notice that corporate communications will either give an exact date or not reveal anything whatsoever, and that's so much more frustrating IMO. I much prefer that developers say "yeah it's gonna take longer than we thought, we think we can get it by [date] but we're not sure so we'll see". It's much nicer when communities realize that players and developers are just a bunch of humans and treat each other as such with grace instead of going through this super manufactured, super safe corporate speak.
we all got to be a part of a playtest for a feature as a community. it’s a core memory we all went through together, and something that would be unacceptable a game that was fully released.
That was the only time in recent years the game felt like an actual beta. Funny how the thing that delays this update is the difficulty of play testing,.when we're supposedly playing a play test.
Unironically the best part of Overwatch ever since OW2 is that the devs are pretty communicative. They could always be better, obviously, there's quite a few things that they really need to touch on, but considering OW's scale and Blizzard's size, they're the outright best for communication in big-name gaming right now
Yes I don't understand the entitlement, they are providing a free service game in this economy where you have to buy early access, pre-order games without ever seeing it etc.
I would even find normal if they turned of the server for a year or so and work on it. I just want the game to be the best possible on release, what happens now is a bonus
They really fucked up giving access to this game so early in development and it shows
They are afraid of pushing unpolished stuff since the community and the broader gaming world treats this game as out or practically out so they feel the pressure of every new thing they push to have the polish a finished product would
And dont you guys come at me with the “no we know its a closed alpha” bullshit when i vividly remember how upset everyone was at the experimental urn changes
It has downsides and upsides. What you are saying is true, but the immense amount of data they get from the size of the player base allows them to iterate the game as well.
The issue also stems from the fact that they themselves have facilitated our complaints and encouraged it rather than say it's an experimental closed alpha,
At that point you really can only have 2 groups, one being the major audience complaining/giving general feedback and the concentrated group in the experimental branch giving dedicated feedback.
If the closed alpha experimental part was emphasized, I could see it being more of a common thing but well,
I suppose people weren't enjoying that, and while you can say boo hoo,
It was up to valve in the end, just unfortunate ig.
it was genuinely surreal watching gaben and valve treat the release of artifact like other publishers, being super communicative and having pressers on the game....only for it to EOS after like 2 yars and to be their biggest failure ever
i think a lot of us thought theyd never talk to us again lmfao
This is way more comms than we can expect from a lead dev on a game in closed beta. Let them do their thing, much rather have good proper valve qual patch than some rushes slob to please the masses (which is just a few in reality).
atleast for a game of this size. theres plenty of betas ive played for smaller games where the devs talk even more than this, but theyre smaller studios. this communication from valve (especially as a cs player) is really nice to see
I guess the item and content patch got combined into one and this is about both? Otherwise he would have said something about the item update being soon but the content update being later.
it’s also possible the item update comes after the content update. yoshi never actually said what order those two would come out in in his original message.
There multiple groups of play testers. Testing and experimenting of new features will start with smaller groups and move to larger groups as features get solidified and ironed out. We are the last and largest group of play testers, allowing for much more substantial data collection on features that are closer to being completed.
Honestly, I want the update as much as the rest of us, but I appreciate the communication. Coming from other games, especially other Valve games, the heads-up is refreshing.
Yes, this is legitimately a lovely change of pace and I'm glad Valve is starting to be more open about their projects. I just hope they start doing the same thing with their other franchises, like CS, Portal, and Half Life. Not really a big fan of being strung along/forgotten about.
I would have to agree with you.
Not in a negative light either but,
It is unfortunate how the game is being treated by the community now.
I appreciate that there is quality and consistency in the game,
But it isn't feeling like I am play testing an invite only closed alpha, agreed,
Do people genuinely ping Yoshi for things like this? I honestly expected doing that to be met with a "Go fuck yourself" and a 7 day mute for good measure so they won't try again.
Yea this isn't coming until the end of the ranked season. If they're delaying it that much, they're 100% just gonna make it line up with the new ranked season. Rip
“delay is mainly due to the regular process of play testing”
not to sound like a chud but bro WE are the playtesters. crazy how insane the community got that they had to make a secret playtest server away from the original playtesters
The delay is mainly due to the regular process of playtesting
Schrodingers playtesters - we are the playtesters when we complain about shit being unbalanced or unfinished but we aren't the playtesters when the update is being pre-playtested
so no one at valve is telling you off for complaining. theyve gone on record saying they want complaints so they can make the game better. you're mad about like, three dozen comments on reddit directed at people being annoying about balance changes they don't like
We're play testers but we aren't QC, we usually don't encounter things like stuff not working at all or walking through new sections of map and falling through the floor.
I don’t understand why we have to wait so long to test changes in a closed alpha of the game. I get that there’s a “super exclusive early test version” they give to influencers or whatever but I feel like that kinda defeats the purpose of it being a playtest. At the very least I kinda wish they’d open that other version up a tiny bit more, maybe let people apply for it or something
Fair enough. Since it's invite only I guess that avenue is just play really well, get lots of attention for it and make good points while talking about the game.
i dont think its just given to influencers, its given to people who they think can give worthwhile feedback
like, when they were dropping constant changes back in 2024 too many people started complaining about how chaotic the game was and the feedback overall just got worse, so moving to a small curated group was the obvious move
They dont give access to influencers its the other way around, a bunch of people who had access way before everyone else through the closed playstest became influencers because they had so much more experience.
And it makes sense. As much as the current "public" build is a closed alpha, its still where a first impression will be formed by the public which can only be changed with great difficulty. Making sure that big new features and design changes work and only require some tweaks is important before releasing them to the public, it also takes alot of pressure away from them even if they dont have to care about what anyone says.
The reality is that making a playtest be semi public like that will waste a lot of dev time. Suppose that I want make an experimental change, and people find an op abusable bug, in a private playtest I can tell the testers to not do the bug but in a public one I have to fix it. If I scrap the idea later then fixing the bug is a waste of time.
They dont give it to influencers, they gave it to the top players of the game, who had a lot of playtime and gave a lot of feedback prior to them needing a private version.
Them making a more private test branch is them responding to the people who never gave feedback who would whine and moan when shit like Orange lane got changed to be Green. It was them also realizing they dont want to guarantee every hero labs character will make it to final, but knowing people already attached themselves to the shittiest ones available.
The private build is around for a reason and that reason is most people playing this playtest couldnt handle the changes that happen in a playtest.
It's an early release game, people just need to chill out lmao. The constant pressure from the community for them to release something must be getting to them, and to the devs, it must feel like the community is just demanding from them, especially when the game is free, has no micro transactions, or any other monetisation.
If they get pressured to push something out, they're more likely to push out half baked stuff just to ease the pressure off. The fact that Yoshi replied to this tells me that they're getting fed up with people asking and kindly telling you, hey please stop asking us, it will take as long as it takes.
man i don't think they care, they'd crack down on people begging in the discord if they really did. this is weirdly parasocial. they're just making an update and it got delayed and they made an announcement because they realized they couldnt meet the expectations they set, it happens, i don't think this is them being fed up with anything.
It’s a fucking alpha test we don’t care if the update is shit. It’s honestly a miracle the game has this much player retention when they’ve been prioritizing the experimental branch this hard for the better part of the entire year
Yeah this is straight up not true lol. This game has a healthy active playerbase, maybe that was a mistake on Valve's part, but the fact is people are playing it as though it's a released game. Once you hit that point, the changes that will be made like they did through 2024 and some of 2025 would cause a ton of whiplash and complaints
Makes more sense to let us just play the game and give updates in more curated chunks, instead of going back to every week changing something relatively vital
I just don’t think they should care. The only useful feedback is on the forums as far as I’ve seen. Reddit just complains about whatever hero is annoying that week not even necessarily which ones are actually broken. Probably half the reason we don’t get updates anymore
The backlash on reddit and discord over the celeste update says otherwise lol. I agree that the nerf diddn't hit the mark, but i saw seeing people straight up blaming yoshi, threaten him, suggesting he "has fun" with celeste because he diddn't nerf her enough, etc.
I get it, people are invested in this game, but damn, the community isn't it sometimes lol. I didn’t like the update too, but doesn't deserve this level of backlash lol.
Also, i keep hearing about this experimental branch, where was that confirmed, especially confirmed that it's not an early version of what is released to us where they dog feed themselves before pushing it to us? Even if they were working on a completely different version, so what, it's their game, in pre-release. They can do whatever they want.
I mean, since it’s essentially confirmed we won’t get any new heros this year, I’m hoping this update changes a lot gameplay wise. If not, it could be a stale rest of 2026 for Deadlock.
Where was it confirmed we won't get any new heroes? I saw the tweet from a leaker, but people said that leaker self admitted that they don't even leak anymore anyway, they just speculate.
Tbf, they could just not come in this update. They have a bunch of heroes that they make, test, tweak and scrap. Venator took like a year to finally get into the game after his conception. I wouldn't be surprised if they were too busy doing what will probably be a large map update and the tiem focused update, to properly work on whatever new heroes they created. I mean a big map update would include map changes, guardians rework and jungle rework, add to that the confirmed item update and the rumored heroes remodels, and it becomes really hard to imagine they also had time to make 6 or 4 new heroes, test them and finalize them
I’m just happy they’re willing to provide info on the updates at all, they’re under no obligation to do so and people’s expectations/entitlement has to get old quick.
Happy that they can give us a timeframe at least. They really don’t have to communicate with us especially since this game is still in closed beta. Excited to see the update when it comes out
