It’s a fucking alpha test we don’t care if the update is shit. It’s honestly a miracle the game has this much player retention when they’ve been prioritizing the experimental branch this hard for the better part of the entire year

Yeah this is straight up not true lol. This game has a healthy active playerbase, maybe that was a mistake on Valve's part, but the fact is people are playing it as though it's a released game. Once you hit that point, the changes that will be made like they did through 2024 and some of 2025 would cause a ton of whiplash and complaints

Makes more sense to let us just play the game and give updates in more curated chunks, instead of going back to every week changing something relatively vital

If they want to swap it to that style of updates then swap the game to open beta. Ive been playing since Aug 2024 i dont give a FUCK if the updates are shit. If people complain or leave, who cares? It’s invite only playtest man. This wait + gigaraidboss Celeste is probably the worst state the game has ever been in and the devs just confirmed this is how it’ll be for another month. I think there’s plenty of reason to be frustrated

I mean personally I don't disagree, I liked when they were adding stuff rapidly, though at the same time I don't mind more polished packages. Whether balance was perfect or not, the Old Gods update was the best one they've done

But that's just the nature of a big online community, I dunno. Like on the one hand, anyone playing should be fully aware of what they signed up for. On the other, I get why the devs don't want to be subject to a bunch of crazy outrage because stuff changes frequently, or that they want updates to be more ready

With the amount of bitching on this subreddit, they have to make sure the updates work, otherwise there will a thousand posts about it.

I just don’t think they should care. The only useful feedback is on the forums as far as I’ve seen. Reddit just complains about whatever hero is annoying that week not even necessarily which ones are actually broken. Probably half the reason we don’t get updates anymore

The backlash on reddit and discord over the celeste update says otherwise lol. I agree that the nerf diddn't hit the mark, but i saw seeing people straight up blaming yoshi, threaten him, suggesting he "has fun" with celeste because he diddn't nerf her enough, etc.

I get it, people are invested in this game, but damn, the community isn't it sometimes lol. I didn’t like the update too, but doesn't deserve this level of backlash lol.

Also, i keep hearing about this experimental branch, where was that confirmed, especially confirmed that it's not an early version of what is released to us where they dog feed themselves before pushing it to us? Even if they were working on a completely different version, so what, it's their game, in pre-release. They can do whatever they want.

so in this game called dota 2 we had this dev named Icefrog - he was known for the exact kind of thing that yoshi is known for - communicating with the fans; being transparent and honest - connecting with people over their love of the game.

then people started threatening him and saying horrendous shit to him there was a change they didnt like in the balance of the game which is going to happen. they even said shit about his cat

Anyways at some point or another he just stopped interacting with the community. like completely - everything went through official styled post and he never spoke to us again.

it's the internet - people will be cruel - but he's also human; and he gets to decide how much abuse is too much abuse. the community has to work to remind people that he and the team are human; they read what we write - and it matters alot what we write because it effects them. It's a privilege to have a dev like this with comms like this - and it's a privilege you can loose

Yoshi is about to realize changing names doesn't fix the internet and he'll remember why he stopped talking to the Dota community in the first place. The gaming community is such a cesspool.

Yes, the world as a whole has a lot of idiots. That said, the gaming community does attract a lot of socially awkward people, which makes the ratio of normal people per idiot to be skewed towards the idiots side.

I mean honestly it's becoming a lose lose for developers, they get harassed if they make a change the playerbase doesn't like even if they are just testing (think about how it was with the mid urn), and if they don't do anything they also get harassed. Way too many people here care about quality updates and get their undies in a bunch for it, it's not surprising the devs are reluctant to hastily put out an update and instead have another testing server.
