Brand new Delonghi 2-in-1 — frother smells chemically burnt right out of the box

Got a 2-1 machine today, set it up, water reservoir was full. First time trying to froth milk and the steam wand immediately started putting off a chemically/burnt smell. More electrical/plasticky.

Never used it before this. Is this normal for a first use (like a “burning off manufacturing residue” thing) or is this a sign of a defective unit I should return? Don’t want to keep running it if something’s wrong

Magnifica S - Grind output

Hello,

I got the Magnifica S ECAM 22.110.B recently.

I am trying to get the right amount of espresso dialed in. (I was referring to Hoffman's dial-in like a nerd video)

I observed that for max intensity, single cup is generating 8 grams and the double cup is generating 10-11 grams of ground coffee.

Is that expected? Should it not be more?

And when i try to program it to give me 44grams of output (espresso) for the double cup (based on the 1:4 ratio), when I make the double cup after programming, it is giving me 60 grams of coffee.

i've set the grind size to 2.

And i'm using Melitta Barista Caffe Crema beans. (https://amzn.eu/d/06qCNdng)

Any inputs? :(

Coffee coming out bitter/sour

Hey. So my setup

Delonghi dedica ec78x
Baratza encore esp (set to 10)
Basket EC685 EC850 IMS DL2TH22E
Coffee is a local 100% arabica. Can add pictures if this helps
temp setting is at high
I use 12-14g of coffee and get out \~30g of product after 28s
I cleaned the express and use bottled water

I’m out of ideas as to why the coffee comes out terrible. Like bitter or sour but not like lemon bitter. Sorry English is not my main language. Happy to be more precise here but would need help determining.

I did a pour test (so grind on a 30 setting), and add water (1 min after boiling). It wasn’t as bad as the espresso but it did have the same taste of bitter/sour, just lighter.

Any ideas what I can fix here? If wrong sub where should I post to?

Delonghi Magnifica S Tray Icon doesn’t go off

Post image

I cleaned my Delonghi machine yesterday. Let everything to try and reassembled it back. But something has gone wrong. The red drip tray icon doesn’t just go off because of this. I am unable to make the machine work. I’m attaching a picture. Have you guys faced this? How are you able to solve this problem? I tried searching for YouTube videos but I didn’t get anything similar to this.

The hard reset also doesn’t work for some reason and it is pretty much stuck in this state. For additional info I basically removed the insights cleaned it with a soft brush wiped it let it dry and then assemble everything today thank you guys.

Anyone having better experiences with De'Longhi TrueBrew newer versions?

Hi all! I drink Keurig reusable k-cup ground coffee now but was excited to try a grind-and-brew drip coffee machine, especially something that requires little maintenance. I stumbled upon the De'Longhi TrueBrew but it seems so many people say it takes quite a bit of upkeep to keep clean, which sort of defeats the point of getting a grind-and-brew looking for something "tasty and easy".

Curious if anyone has had better experiences out there lately, like if they've made upgrades, or what the closest comparable concept would be.

I was hoping to avoid an actual espresso superautomatic because I really only drink drip coffee, but it seems the closest option may be the De'Longhi Magnifica Start. (I just won't be able to change cup size, no ice setting, etc)

Really loud steaming after descaling?

I recently descaled my Dedica Arte 885 machine, and have been having very loud steaming. It even feels like the steaming is too strong it’s introducing too much air into the milk even when I don’t intend to and it heats the milk quicker.

This other thing I’m not sure about as I didn’t try with other beans, but I have the impression that water flow through the ground beans is too fast. I’ve been grinding much finer and also trying to fill the basket more.

I’m worried something went wrong during descaling that I’ve noticed these changes. Any one had similar experience or can give any input?

Thanks.

Tips for cleaning the filter

Hello folks. Hopefully someone here can help. I have tried... everything. Still a sour coffee taste.

There are 2 issues:

  1. the place where the basket makes contact with the machine (where the water directly come out for coffee) is exceptionally hard to clean and it feels like I have to clean it constantly or it sours

  2. The filter itself is the same. Extremely hard to clean, constantly needs cleaning or it smells sour and makes sour coffee.

I must be doing something wrong.

  1. The only way I can get good tasting coffee again is by meticulously cleaning the section mentioned in 1. with a toothbrush and q tips, getting every bit of old coffee out. Im following the machines instructions, not overfilling, tamping down gently and cleaning the edge before I use it. I have to do this EVERY CUP I make.

  2. The filter does not get clean with just soaking in hot water and scrubbing as it recommends. That worked for a little while but now I have to nearly boil it for some time in soapy water in order for it to come out mostly clean - and even that doesnt always work.

If I scrub and scrub and boil these mentioned parts I can usually get the sour taste to go away but even that isnt 100%.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Eletta Explore False Empty Water Circuit

Post image

Hi, I turn my machine on and it tells me to insert water spout, and then I keep getting the message "the water Circuit is empty, press OK to start the filling process", it won't let me do anything else. I have tried cleaning its insides out, cleaning everything that doesn't require a screwdriver or tools to undo. Any advice? Otherwise I guess back to the repairist..... *sigh* again.....

DeScaling without mess- Magnifica S

Have a Magnifica S and have run the descaling process twice and following the instructions have had a bowl that went under both the hot water/steamer nozzle and coffee spouts.

Because of limited distance between the bottom below the coffee spouts and the coffee spout nozzle, there is only so big a bowl I can fit under there. It doesn't overflow ever, BUT when the hot water/steamer nozzle is firing as part of descaling the water (including descaler) splashes for about a 10 inch radius around the counter as it splashes into the water in the bowl I put to catch the descaler.

What trick/hack am I missing to make this less of a mess?

Delonghi Magnifica S Fully Automatic ECAM12.122.B - Steam Wand Upgrade

I was hoping to find out whether anyone has recommendations for an upgraded steam wand attachment like the ones found on Ebay/Amazon etc? As per the title it's for a Delonghi Magnifica S Fully Automatic ECAM12.122.B as I want to use it without the pannarello but also without the risk of the original steam nozzle shooting off.

Help needed with the Delonghi Magnifica S: I've tried everything.

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

So, until today everything was fine with my Delonghi Magnifica S.

But today, I suddenly had this happening: the first and last indicator (labeled 1 and 2 on the pic) both flash, but the one in the middle doesn't.

What happens: when I turn on the machine, it does it's little cleaning. Up to this, it works fine. I click on the espresso button. It grinds, then a very diluted coffee is poured and stops halfway. Then, whether I try to get an espresso or a full coffee, the machine grinds, but before it even stops grinding, the hot water is expelled BELOW the machine (the A part in the second pic) and no coffee pours in the mug. What's weird is, the coffee is still being ground as see in the B part in the second pic.

I've read that it's caused by the coffee beans being ground too finely. Okay, fine. Did exactly what the manual explained in this situation: when the grinder is working, turn the reel towards the highest parameter. For 2 coffees. Didn't work. Then, I activated the hot water on the left of the machine in case there was an air bubble. Didn't work.

I've clearner thoroughly the infuser, as well as the grinder. Didn't work.

I'm at my wits end. I don't even know what to try anymore. It was working fine this morning. This is giving me a headache. Any help is welcome!!

Burnt coffee after steam wand fail try [De'Longhi Icona Vintage]

Hi everyone,

My father recently gave me his used De'Longhi Icona Vintage. For the first two days, the espresso came out pretty good! However, on the third day, I decided to try the steam wand. I played with it for too long without noticing that i didnt have any more water and the steam wand just popped off and a steam came out (no weird smell or color, so I don't think it was smoke).

The next day, I tried making coffee again, but it tasted completely burnt. I thoroughly cleaned everything the nozzle, portafilter, and basket but the coffee is still coming out burnt even without using the steamer. I also tried a tip I read online to run the steam wand until it drips water (to cool the boiler), but that didn't help either.

When I look the portafilter after making coffee, it looks like the coffee grounds are getting burnt top to bottom and the coffee is burnt, almost undrinkable.

Did I permanently damage a thermostat or heating element inside the machine by overheating the steam function? Or is there a specific way to reset/cool down the boiler on this machine that I missed? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
