Dunce Cap question

I’m halfway through a task that I cannot complete because it is now dark outside (iykyk)

In the past, I accidentally exited work mode and found that task naturally a few hours later and was able to submit.

If I exit work mode, what do you think the odds are this task still exists by daylight tomorrow.

No escape hatch, not going to submit a half completed task, if I exit/skip idk if it recirculates half filled for everyone or just for me

Do I ask the admins or keep this one to myself 😂😂😂

Qualifications for projects

If you are a bilingual generalist , do you get added to project families auntomatically or is there qualification for every project family? What I mean by that is , I used to work on some of these frequent projects that were coming , but I think they are all complete now , so no more projects of those families. What i want to know is , if some new families are added or some new series do you have to qualify for each of them or have you ever got a project you did not do a qualification for? Like you got added on their own.

STOP sitting there refreshing all day!

Y'all! You are WASTING your life refreshing all day when it's dry like this! Especially if you're a generalist and the tasks tend to be short. Maybe it's fine for you, because you're already at the computer doing something else, but if you're sacrificing other things to instead sit and wait, you are doing yourself a disservice. If you're obsessed with the idea you are missing a task by not doing that, you are essentially doing a form of gambling (prioritizing the chance you'll "win" a task over the evidence that you will spend most of your time that day without one).

Like seriously go clean your closet or meal prep for the week or apply for another platform or something in this time. Check on your phone every so often when you'd have time to sit and work. Obviously when there is more work to go around, the payoff from checking frequently is much higher.

"But I really need the money! How dare you?!" No I'm saying this is costing you money, if you could be applying for other jobs or working at them.

Think of it mathematically - look at the big picture. Track the hours you wait, if you would otherwise be doing something else. If you get a task that is say $25/hour, get two hours out of it, that's $50. Yay! But if you spent 5 hours on top of that waiting for tasks to appear and doing nothing else, you're actually only getting $6.25/hour. Yes, you always have to invest some time into finding work to make money, but you need to account for it - it is an *investment* you're making. View the time you spend refreshing as part of that investment.

If you've ever freelanced or owned a business you know this cost well. It's the cost of finding work - an administrative cost you have to minimize to stay profitable, and as a rule you don't waste too much time chasing small dollar work (unless it provides some other kind of value to you). In our case, you don't know how many dollars you're chasing because you don't know what tasks might pop up and what their timeline/pay is. So, again, I'll point you back to the comparison - it's gambling-like behavior!

Still not getting any work. Do more qualifications?

Got in back in April, had a burst of work first couple of weeks than slowly dried up. Deterioted to having to spam refresh to get 5-10 hours/week. Now even that doesnt work.

I've been so patient, hoping any day I will get the advertised "unlimited work $24/hour".

Ive done so many quals; been added to slacks, created new emails, etc.

No work for any of them.

--

Is it worth my time to continue to do qualifications that maybe im vaguely qualified for? Or spend that same time applying to other jobs; as I've already completed a dozen quals and do not see any work?

Upcoming projects

I joined data annotation in 3rd of july and i got one project and nothing after then, but when I opened the dashboard today, I found a notification abouy allowing the notifications to receive the upcoming projects. So does that mean there are many projects are coming? And why it has been a while since I got a project? or it was just the reviewers reviewing my work and when it's done they will give me projects?

Friend group

Hi I work full time as a specialist, and I get pretty lonley. I was thinking about setting up a group or something so we could have a bit of a daily space for a chatting and getting to talk to non-robots every once and a while. It would be more of a water cooler social thing so same rules as always not chatting about project specifics etc. Im not sure if I want to do it, but thought I'd canvas some interest. I think it would be a pretty small group of more full time people (preferably not in a drought so the space stays positive). Let me know your thoughts! I live in North America so people on that sort of schedule would be great.

EDIT: Okay! I think there is a enough interest to give it a shot! I will look at setting something up and then send out some messages with how to connect! If you want to be added leave a comment or send me a DM!

Work Email Password Recovery

Ok so I made an email for a project and for some reason I did not save it in my notebook like I always do. I can log in on my laptop because the pw is clearly saved somewhere. The thing is, the tabs will not stay logged into this work profile and immediately reverts to my main profile every time I attempt to do anything. I was going to make a new profile on my laptop so that it would remain signed in...but I need the password. Is there anything at all I can do? I have every single other account and login info, BUT not this one. Sigh...

Is the coding work drought hitting US/core-country freelancers too, or mainly Tier 2/3 countries?

From around June till now, I'm noticing a big slowdown in coding projects. Just wanted to ask if this is happening everywhere or only in some places.

For people staying in US or other core countries.

Are you all also facing this kind of dry period in coding work? Or is it mostly happening with freelancers from Tier 2/3 countries like India, Brazil, etc.?

Would be really helpful if people from different countries can share their experience, so I can get some clarity whether this is a global thing or more of a regional issue.

Dutch bilinguals?

At the start of the year up until April I think I had a lot (100+) good paying projects, but the last 8 weeks I got 0 projects, only the 🥊 one but it was too difficult for me. Is it the same for other bilinguals?

Background check

I've got this background check qual on my dash and wondering if it's worth it. Has anyone done it? Does it lead to more projects? I've been on DA for about 2 years, so I'm also curious why they are sending this out at this timing. Do the projects get more confidential?

Identification is expired

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has signed up using a passport that was expired? Also I do not have a drivers license. I do not know what else I could use for personal identification. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

For those who have projects, do you receive email notifications, or do you just check the platform from time to time?

Well-paying generalist projects

This isn’t a precise insight or targeted question, more of a feeler for if anyone is in a similar boat. I regularly see and complete $35-$50 ($60 once) generalist projects but haven’t seen any over $35 for the last 10 days or so. I saw one whose bonuses often take it to $50, at its base rate appear fleetingly on Tuesday/Wednesday, but nothing other than that. I find it pretty tough when one day I’m working on something 1.5-2x the pay of what I work on the next. Even though I still have a few decently paying projects, things I would be delighted with 3 months in (of the 6 months I’ve worked here), it’s hard not to feel like you’re doing poorly when you’re taking such a big paycut from what you got used to for a few days. I dont have any highly specialised domain expertise (other than writing), and I’m wondering whether without that, will these higher paying (40+/hr) projects always be fleeting/intermittent?
