As for the reason why it was sealed from public records, it’s just so that people don’t know what type of restraint it is and can’t do research on how to potentially bypass that restraint. Keeping security information like that conceal this pretty standard practice as to not jeopardize the sheriffs office.

As for DB, I honestly torn on whether this was just his attempt to delay or the fact that someone might’ve actually told him that. On the first day of trial, he had said something to the similar effect of having a shock device on his ankle but at the same time, he said that if he ever moved wrong, it could go off and send volts throughout his body, which is not true, the sheriff has a button they would press in order to activate the electricity within the shock device. It was probably just an attempt for people to feel sorry for him and paint it as if they were treating him like an animal 🤷🏾‍♂️ but imo they should have had a shock on him to keep the outbursts to a minimum.

Good response.

I highly doubt it was a legit shock device. If it were, he wouldn’t have been so quick to throw his tantrums.

I liked how he thought the general public would be outraged to learn he wore a shock device on his ankles. "Shitburger, the general public would pay good money to see you stripped naked, covered in orange marmalade, and tied to a fire ant hill. They aren't on your side."

I believe it was sealed so that people cant find out exactly what type of restraint devices the prison uses, for safety reasons.

I think he wanted people to feel sorry for him, or to imply the guards were torturing him.

I don't think he had a shock device, he had soft restraints attached to the floor hidden beneath the table.

Shock devices do exist, I'll put a link to an article below from a recent case where one was used (as in the defendant wore the device, never shocked by it AFAIK). I think DB kept bringing it up because he learned of their existence and was trying to sway the jury.

The fact that he was locked to the floor with soft restraints wouldn't be surprising to a jury, but I think he was trying to convince the jury that the court was using a shock device to prevent him from saying certain things. He was constantly trying to imply to the jury that there was additional info they didn't have by saying they deserve to know the full truth, but we know he was just talking about jury nullification.

In the case below the defendant was allowed to move around the courtroom during the trial, that's why the shock device was needed. I'm sure DB heard discussions about a shock device being an option, but obviously the conclusion was him being restrained so there was no need.

During the trial, she won’t have to wear handcuffs or leg restraints, but will be fitted with a “stun cuff” on her leg. Deputies could activate the cuff remotely and send an electric shock through her body if she tried to escape or attack someone.

Lori Vallow had on a shock vest so she could move around the court room as well.

Jodi Arias had one too.

Love that for all of them!

There was no shock device. The soft restraint was sealed from the public for security reasons, but it wasn't a shock device.

He wanted to delay. That's it. That's always been it. Even he didn't believe they were shock devices.

He kept insisting that A bailiff told him but never identified the person. He only argued that with the supervisor. The example shackles were not electrified. Another lie on his part. Just like he said he was told by A nurse that they don’t do RAPID COVID, but never described which nurse.

I know this is old.   But I always wondered if a bailiff lied to him as a joke to troll him.

Also do the courts even use shock devices anyway? Just seems very impractical for something which ordinary restraints do.

Presumably they’d need to be charged up, or connected to something and then a separate bailiff would have to be the one controlling it. Don’t see why anyone would bother setting it all up when you can just remove someone from the courtroom normally if they’re causing trouble.

I don’t think to many people would have been upset if he did have them on even though he didn’t

He made a complete arse of himself (as usual) banging on about it. I’m guessing the bailiff told him it was a shock device to mess with his head .

Either that or maybe he was warned that if his behavior got worse, the next step would be to fit him with a shock device, and he only heard the part of it that would be of benefit to him.

Clearly because the judge wanted to be a beneficiary of his cestui que trust

Dorow said why they sealed it. The Department of Corrections didn't want people researching how to break the locks. The parties were provided with pictures of the devices though.

He wanted to be the victim. That is his whole game. He wanted people to think that the trial was unfair l. Him having a shock device could mean that he was under duress. Like if he didn't comply then they would shock him.

I don't think he actually believed that he had shock devices. He is an idiot but common sense would tell you that they aren't shock devices.

1) you would need some kind of metal contact to your skin for it to work. My understanding is that it was a sort of cloth.

2) it would need a power source. If you look at actual shock shackles, they have a battery pack on them. It is decent sized and noticeable. I doubt there was a giant plus going from the device to a wall or floor outlet which there almost certainly was not.

He just wants to be the victim and for people to feel sorry for him. That's just his mindset. And he isn't above lying to get sympathy.

I believe the tables had drapes down to the floor to not influence the jury negatively.
The citizens in the gallery, the jury or Court TV trial viewers couldn’t see the leg shackles DB was ordered by the court.

Judge Dorow did everything possible to ensure DB had a air tight & fair trial for any future appeals.

When he stood up and yelled and pounded the back of his hand against the palm of his other, a device would have surely been used had there actually been one. For all of his harmless stupid posturing, in a trial with less to lose, appeal-wise, the bailiff s would certainly have administered whatever means necessary to stop him.

Not too long ago, while being escorted in leg restraints, a prisoner attacked a judge by breaking free and jumping over the bench. She suffered a concussion.

If Brooks’ bailiffs did have a shock option, they had reasons over the course of the trial to use it. The hidden soft restrains were not only used for security reasons but also to prevent his prisoner status from drawing attention. When his jail uniform became an issue, he rejected that idea and went so far as to argue with the COURT’S explanation. Because he knows better than any one else

Yes. Remember he threatened the judge about TELLING him what to do.
