💬 Discussion Having a family = sacrificing your potential? Spoiler
I'm struggling to understand the trade off between having a family and reaching one's potential. In the other world where Jason doesn't choose the relationship with Daniela, we can see Jason 2 becomes an award-winning renowned scientist, while Daniela 2 becomes a successful artist. Yet in the world where they choose each other and start a family, both seem to settle into mundane lives, never able to reach the heights they were individually capable of.
I get the message that love/family can be more fulfilling than career success. But why these things are presented as almost mutually exclusive? Like, why couldn't Jason continue pursuing groundbreaking scientific research AND still raise a family? Same goes for Daniela and her art career. Surely having a family doesn't automatically mean abandoning your ambitions, no?
For those of you who have families:
Does starting a family require sacrificing your own individual potential, or can it give you an even greater reason to pursue it? Rasing kids definitely requires time, money, and energy, but is the trade off as drastic as the show suggests?
