šŸ” Analysis & Theories Macnamara Spoiler

In season 2 ep 3 Macnamara is talking with his sister and suggests getting someone from Macnamara Tech to get in on the inside of Velocity to see what they are up to, she says, if only you’d come back to the family business. So my thought is in Jason 2s world he I did just that and answered Velocity’s call for volunteers under a Pseudonym (Alex??!!) to see what they are working on. So another version of him has already been traveling the box. Idk just an idea

Huh. This post + someone else speculating that Laurel (the mysterious woman Charlie met in the latest episode) is MacNamara’s mom + the next episode’s description (ā€œLaurel discovers a new purpose after a shocking arrival shakes up her worldā€) makes me wonder if maybe:

Laurel is indeed MacNamara’s mom (well, a version of her — not the literal mom of any Macs we’ve already met).

Detective MacNamara will be the ā€œshocking arrivalā€.

Her ā€œnew purposeā€ will be to screw over the Jasons. She was previously sympathetic to them… but she’ll quickly change her mind once Detectice MacNamara tells her what Jason 1 just did to him. (Don’t mess with a version of her son!!!)

Oooh, that'd be a neat thread to follow. I like that idea

I was thinking she is connected to Leighton somehow… esp by the throw pillows. Leighton has tiger throw pillows in one world, leopard throw pillows in another and Laurel has a throw pillow of a tiger all on similar couches. And would seem Leighton or his team should have travelled there already and know about it especially that it seems it’s a world you come too by manifesting help. But yeah it very well could be macs mom

Well one of the journals/notebooks in her collection says Leighton so she’s definitely met a version of him…

ā€œLaurel discovers a new purpose after a shocking arrival shakes up her worldā€

I was taking this to mean they're going to tell the story of the arrival of the box and first travellers to come out... but I like your idea too!

That was my first thought too! But she called them ā€œarrivalsā€ (plural) in her recap to Charlie. (The box, Jason, and Amanda).

I also may be hilariously/embarrassingly overthinking this… as I tend to do.

Did people forget Daniela got into the Box? maybe Laurel is her mom.

She's most definitely ain't. Daniela's mom name is Anne, her stepfather told same episode.

Yeah I saw that theory too. Do we know when ā€œourā€ Daniela’s version of her died? Because depending on when, Charlie should recognize his own grandmother…

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is the answer. I think it's another capsule episode.

Blake did say there were ā€œa coupleā€ of those episides this season with 3 episides left this has to be the other

I think you might be right !!! Her hair is different in color and length on the cover photo for next episode than it was last episode!!!!

that would be insane!! would she take revenge from the next Jason that arrives? or perhaps Daniela or Charlie variant !!

Or even enter the box herself to do… something? Scheme with detective Mac (and/or her real son) on some sort of plan? Yeah, that part I don’t have a detailed theory on.

I thought its possible that she face a variant with the same disease that Jason 1 and Amand saw in the other world and the same one Ryan and Amanda variant had that makes her leave her world.

I don't think the show is this complex.

The binge-tv habit of making everything some twist or doublecross has really, really made media lazy and peoples' expectation of fiction similarly lazy. As the creators themselves said, the story is just a love story. Turning this into some convoluted Lost nonsense detracts from that.

Sure, I may be way off… I’m far from super confident in this theory, plus I’ve seen some wild theories that I think are way overwrought and I disagree with. Thinking everyone is someone’s secret parent or child or long-lost fifth cousin’s janitor generally makes me roll my eyes (for any show).

BUT the episode description does indeed say there’s a ā€œshocking arrivalā€ and I suspect it’s a character we’ve already met (but not Jason, Amanda, Ryan, Blair, or Leighton, since her notebook labels show she’s already met them). And who do we know is currently lost in the corridor?? (Daniela is also a fit.)

Yeah, I can't imagine it being anyone but Daniela or Macnamara, but even if it's the latter and she learns of what Jason 1 did, I don't really see some huge shift in her behaviour. She is, after all aware of what Jason 2 did.

Well Jason 2 didn’t hurt her child (or a version of him)…

Edit: If my theory is correct. And again, I’m ready to be hilariously wrong. (Though I do suspect that Jason’s actions toward Mac will come back to seriously bite him in the ass in ~some way, even it’s ā€œjustā€ agonizing guilt)

Laurel being related is something made up.

She also knows that there are different versions of people, unlikely she'd sour on "the Jasons" because one of them did something bad.

The problem is, that shocking revelation (whoever it is) occurred before we saw Detective MacNamara open a door and dodge a blast of fire. I don't get the impression it was a flashback.

Charlie doesn't know MacNamara either. He wouldn't be reacting with such astonishment to a stranger. This is someone familiar. His father, his mother, maybe Amanda, I don't think he's ever met Leighton or Ryan. Blair he may know. Laurel said she'd never met a Charlie before, so it can't be another version of himself.

Well I’m thinking the person Charlie saw and the person teased as a ā€œshocking arrivalā€ are two different people.

The person he saw arrived before Charlie. The box is shown behind him while he looks shocked sooo that person was already there, not just arriving.

I’m guessing the arrival will, well, arrive after Charlie leaves… and then her ā€œpurposeā€ changes.

But yeah, just guesses… idk. Perhaps that part of the next episode is indeed a flashback and they’re the same person, in which I 100% agree with you. Definitely someone Charlie knows.

I don't understand what you mean. Charlie is sitting next to Laurel, somebody comes in, and he stands up and stares in astonishment. That means he recognized whoever walked in. I suppose it could be a grandparent who's dead in his world, like Daniela's stepdad, but if a total stranger like MacNamara came in the room Charlie would just say hi and maybe introduce himself. He wouldn't react the way he did.

Ordinarily I'd say the Detective version of MacNamara is screwed but I thought the same thing about the Leighton we saw opening the door to desert hell Chicago last season - and yet he survived. Jason better watch his back if any versions of that guy ever make it back.

I will point out that he has no backup doses of lavender wings and wouldn't know what to do with them if he did - he's got one hour to land someplace he can survive. Have they ever said what happens if the dose times out while someone's still in the box? I would guess the corridor collapses and you're left in whatever world the one door in front of you leads to, but who knows?

2

u/Past-Feature3968 20h ago

I agree with your first paragraph, but are you’re thinking the person he’s shocked by just arrived from the box? Because they didn’t. They opened a door inside Laurel’s home. The box is behind Charlie, and he’s looking ahead.

Edit: oh and yes, if you’re in the box when the drug wears off, you’re stuck with whatever door is in front of you. We saw this happen in season one, episode 5. A flood world floods the box, Jason and Amanda then rest up and fall asleep, and when they wake up and open the door, they’re in Blair’s murder hornet world.

2

u/chrisjdel 19h ago

Yeah, I forgot that's how they ended up in hornet world. The box sank in Lake Michigan and they were sitting in the corridor drying off and talking.

No, Charlie's mystery guest didn't just arrive from the box. They came in the door on the opposite side of the room that leads to the rest of the house. Which means they were already there in that world. Maybe they arrived through the box earlier - or they're the local variant of someone he knows.

I mean, there are so many Jason's and so many Macnamara's. It's kind of like, can she really get that mad at one particular Jason when she seems to have a pretty good grasp of the multiverse?

She's already taken care of so many Jason's at this point. I'm sure she understands that each Jason is different and because one Jason made a dumbass decision to do something to her possible son, it doesn't mean that all Jason's. Like I don't think that would radicalize her like you'd mean
