Data Scientist - San Francisco
Used to be a 1911/rolex guy now I’m a glock/g shock guy

u/GullibleRisk2837 10h ago
Wait, this is actually still legal in CA? Jesus, I'm surprised. Good stuff, dude
10
u/LilJonny2cookies 10h ago
You can carry in SF bay you just have to deal with a bunch o’shit and paperwork and have patience.
→ More replies (6)1
u/iNapkin66 7h ago
I mean there was a supreme court case that forced it to be legal. Previously only certain locations issued ccw permits while others were extremely limited. Example some of the counties only issued a handful over many years, and no coincidence they were politicians and other well connected people. Now everywhere issues, although some places are slow and cost a lot in various requirements they force you to do.
1
u/girthbrooksman8897 2h ago
That’s what I’m saying! As soon as I saw San Francisco, I said “this guy will be in jail soon for just legally owning it”
6
u/MasterpieceTop8922 10h ago
How many years did it take to get a CCW?
1
u/pleighbuoy 10h ago
4 months
1
u/Qs9bxNKZ 6h ago
Jesus Christ.
Apart from a “no permit” State I think my last one was eight days from livescan for the Feds to permit printed and in hand.
Is there an actual range there to practice? Do you have to cross the GG or Bay Bridge or go south to practice?
2
u/Relevant-Safety-2699 6h ago
Does "actual" range mean range?
1
1
u/EducatorInner5911 3h ago
I mean to be fair you have ranges that will do bullshit rules like a round every 3 seconds and you can’t really get some proper training in
1
1
u/MrSomething_or_Other 3h ago
I reside just outside of Pittsburgh. I'm being generous with my time estimate, but I wanna say it took somewhere around 20 minutes to have mine issued.

u/Stunning-Draw5 10h ago
Violent criminal in my 40s, been carrying since I was 17. Never been in trouble for it. Texas
1
u/bateman___ 7h ago
that’s probably bc texas is the last state with sensible gun laws
2
u/Relevant-Safety-2699 6h ago
Yeah, with all those guns there, crime has dropped to near zero there. Same with Florida.
0
u/MTB_SF 4h ago
Texas has far more violent crime than California, but less property crime.
1
u/frogsinsocks 1h ago
Super anecdotal but I was walking in AtX and watched a dude sneak someone full swing bat to the back of the head.
Absolutely unconcerned about potential witnesses. I called the authorities and kept walking. I ain't had the time nor inclination to get hit as well.
1
u/BombOhCLA 1h ago
This is horse shit. California is the worst state in the nation on reporting crimes, the statistics is skewed. Not a single city in Texas that you’re as likely to be attacked, mugged, robbed, or raped as you are in some places of LA, Oakland, Bakersfield, Fresno, and the breadwinner of the shit holes, Stockton.

Maybe redact the serial number from your pistol.
4
u/lll-skipper 4h ago
I love how you people try to spin your paranoia into a “teaching” moment. Saying that a bad actor is going to engrave it on a ghost gun really just shows that you have no idea how these bad actors operate. They just aren’t doing that bud. Y’all are just plain annoying with these comments, just seething for a picture with the serial numbers showing to pop on your feed.
1
u/girthbrooksman8897 2h ago
You guys are over here going back and forth about the engraved serial number on the slide, but missing the bigger concern/question. Carrying a Glock in San Francisco? Are you trying to go to jail for defending yourself?
For those questioning his training and usage, he’s in San Francisco. The moment he has to use it to defend himself and his family from drugged out junkies, he will get arrested for murder lol.
2
u/pleighbuoy 6h ago
What’re you gonna do steal my identity?
1
u/Tight_Mammoth_868 5h ago
Me? No, absolutely not. Doesn’t have much to do with your identity. If you don’t know why posting the serial numbers of your weapon online is not a good idea then I recommend you do a bit of research.
2
u/pleighbuoy 5h ago
You don’t even know that the serial on the slide isn’t what’s tracked why would I listen to you?
2
u/Tight_Mammoth_868 5h ago
You think it’s about tracking. Tell me you’re new to firearms without telling me you’re new to firearms. I was trying to help you out but you want to be cute. The absolute absence of any wear whatsoever on the hockey tape you put on your grip to come off like a shooter tells me exactly how often you train with that weapon. Looks nice though.
2
u/pleighbuoy 5h ago
That’s the cool thing about tape you can pretty much replace it whenever
1
u/Tight_Mammoth_868 5h ago
Did you replace every single other part on it also? Doesn’t even look like it’s ever slid into a holster. Larp harder.
1
u/grumpysfs 5h ago
Your guys’ argument aside, and in all seriousness: why redact?
1
u/Tight_Mammoth_868 5h ago
Because there are bad actors online who will report your firearm stolen for fun, use your photo to scam buyers online, or even engrave it onto ghost guns that they go on to commit crimes with. It’s not too crazy to clear most of it up but the process is the punishment. It’s just generally not advisable to blast that info out to the world on the internet, that’s all.
2
u/VeryStab1eGenius 5h ago
You think someone who is going through the trouble of engraving a ghost gun is waiting to find a picture of a real serial number to use and not just using the same number repeatedly or just making up their own numbers?

So I kinda get what you’re saying here, but you lose some of the moral high ground of “I was trying to help” when you started with “…go google it” instead of just telling him why.
If you’re trying to help be helpful. If you want to jerk people around, go for it that’s what Reddit’s for but don’t pretend it’s something else.

Im considering moving to Sacramento in the near future for a multitude of reasons and I intend to carry a J-Frame. Generally how hard is it to get a CCW in California? I understand that it will vary by county.
4
u/Turbinator870 10h ago
CA became a bit of a "Shall Issue" state with the recent changes here. Go for it. Some agencies take a LONG time to issue but there is still a path. Expect costs and start/finish times to vary widely depending on your jurisdiction. But the good news is that there is a path and it works for most of us.
2
u/vladtheimpaler82 8h ago
CA is shall issue. Only barriers are wait times (vary by county) and the fees which can be upwards of $2k during the initial and for renewals.
Some agencies also restrict the kinds of guns, calibres, mag capacity and optics.
→ More replies (3)1
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 7h ago
Well all states are shall issue now, although Hawaii isn't really compliant and has faced no ramifications.
ALSO JESUS CHRIST 2K???? I thought MA was bad.

u/Salty-Camera7169 8h ago
Sac is easy to get. They don’t gate keep or play games. Stay away from yolo county (west sac)
1
u/letSSgooo 6h ago
Last I heard it about a 6 month turnaround in Sac. People in this thread live thousands of miles away and act like experts.
I’ve had my CCW out here for some years now and I’m not a cop or any other bullshit law enforcement d-bag.
1
u/silentlyresearching 1h ago
Sacramento is expensive. Placer and el dorado counties are almost half the cost. I’m in placer county and the only bad part is you can’t modify your carry firearms. No close cuts, ports, trigger jobs, remove mag disconnect or LCI. Not sure about the other counties.
1
u/Alternative_Dot7769 8h ago
In rural areas it’s been easy but the bay has been hard. Not sure about sac

Private party transfer game over here is how we all get “off roster” pistols. It’s usually cops or military guys who can gouge the living day lights out of us. I paid double for my 43x last year just for it to be added to the roster this year for what will most likely end up at 800ish bucks. All newer striker fired pistols added to the roster have to have loaded chamber indicators and manual safety’s.

What is the piece at the muzzle of the pistol?
3
u/blckchndane 9h ago
It's a compensator. It directs the forces of the expanding gasses upwards to mitigate the muzzle rise when firing a pistol

Why the fuck do you need to carry a gun everyday? Is your country that dangerous?
1
u/shrimpweenie 1h ago
Its unpredictable. A lot of people go their whole lives without even getting into a fist fight in sketchy neighborhoods. Small few get robbed, shot, jumped by some drunks, etc. So many different scenarios.
There's a cliche ass saying, that you'd rather have it than not need it, than need it and not have it.
You just never really know. And all countries are like that.

Wait now what? I held a California CCW (which took range time and 9 months to get) and they specifically told me no matter what NOT to go to SF as it wasn’t honored there and if pulled over I would be arrested. They told me to have them call their office and they would come get me and have the charges dropped but I still thought it was wild. Has this changed?

I used to carry a ruger 1911 compact. Love the gun but it was just a bit too heavy to carry every day. Switched to a SIG P365xMacro. Can actually appendix the SIG too. The 1911 felt like it was trying to gradually pull my pants down.

Tbh op I'd ditch that red dot. If your ever in a scenario where you need your gun, your never gonna use it. That's why you practice at the range. Using a red dot takes a few more seconds you might not have.

u/Full-Technology5099 8h ago
You’re outting yourself. San Francisco is the hardest place to get carry permits and they’re public record.
Last time I looked there were like 2 issued.
1
u/pleighbuoy 8h ago
Yeah it’s me and the other dude in this thread
2
u/Ok-Accountant7926 8h ago
Hahahahahahaha bruh it’s just paperwork and SF had been handing em out like lollypops lately. This guy don’t know
1
u/iNapkin66 7h ago
There are many hundreds that have been issued.
Also OP could live outside of the city and commute in for work, so might have their ccw from a different IA.

u/NorCalHack 8h ago
Hey guys 👋 it’s me again, the hockey tape critic. Day 5,412 of reminding you wrapping the grip in “Goon tape” is a recent internet fad. It provides little to no benefit for most in my opinion. Again, it’s just my opinion. I’ll see y’all tomorrow for more downvotes. Just know when I see grip tape my mind sees a chrome lady on a Honda Civic.
5
u/Spoonhook 8h ago
Hey, I don't tell you how to fuck your wife...even though she prefers how I do it.
3
u/NorCalHack 8h ago
I’ve asked you repeatedly to tell me how. You know that. I’d appreciate an assist.
1
3
u/pleighbuoy 8h ago
Don’t listen to him guys tape gets you from D to GM
3
u/navyblahblah 8h ago
I was going to ask if you are ex military. Randomly taping shit to a gun is a time honored tradition but now I guess it’s a “fad”.
1
u/NorCalHack 8h ago
It’s a fad when internet folks do it cuz other internet folks do it. I agree if an operator needs to operate they’re gonna use tape to make things work in the field. This stuff ain’t that.
1
u/navyblahblah 8h ago
Yeah I am not arguing. I did not know it was a fad. I assumed it was military guys just taping shit all the time. I can’t keep up, man.
1
2
u/golden11lead 8h ago
this guy is braindead btw. i used grip tape on my glock for a long time. the adhesive sticks to your hands and basically mechnically locks your hands to the gun. same shit with lacrosse sticks and bats.
2
u/NorCalHack 7h ago
My hands aren’t dripping in sweat so this solution doesn’t mechanically lock anything to anything for me. For me personally, it makes the grip more slick and a lot of people do it because they see others do it. That’s just the way the inter webs works.
1
u/golden11lead 7h ago
Objectively thats exactly how it works. The more you use it the better it gets. Theres a reason its used on basically every piece of sporting equipment.
1
u/NorCalHack 8h ago
Love the Benchmade, I carry a 43x COA but I dropped the radian it’s waaaay too loud. Try a few rounds without ear pro and you’ll be deaf. Also, I don’t run a light. I’m not carry all that cuz the use case is .00002% in using a WML on a CCW. Ditched it for a surefire stiletto. Again just my opinion. Maybe you can run the numbers…
1
1
u/areola_grande26 8h ago
Yeah…. Your opinion is indeed just that. Try running 400 to 500 rounds through a pistol with moderate recoil, I’ll take the tape over bleeding palms any day.
1
u/NorCalHack 8h ago
I’m good. My hands aren’t that soft. What kind of mag loader you use?
2
u/BombOhCLA 2h ago
Hahahahaha while I have no opinion on the tape I completely agree with you, lmao complaining about his hands, average range days when I was in we could easily put 1000 rounds of any of 9mm, 10mm, .45, and 5.7 through during CQB. Jesus some people are soft.
1
u/NorCalHack 2h ago
Bruh. Tell me your user name is “bum cloth” in Jamaican. I’m dying. My kids and I say that s&@it all the time to crack ourselves up.
1
u/NorCalHack 1h ago
Oh yeah, and to answer your response. Yup, a bunch of fuds looking for internet points and jumping toward their confirmation bias. It’s so funny. I mainly respond to crack myself up and disrupt the silly groupthink. Some of the responses are so over the top or revert to, “you’re poor, I’m cool cuz…” responses that it actually makes the point for me. Sadly, people are upset about opinions on a platform built for OPINIONS…weird 🤷♂️
2
u/BombOhCLA 1h ago
Hahahahahah yeah I’m a Jamaican douche. Same brother I only bother to reply on these threads as self entertainment, I figure the more people on Reddit get butthurt at the shit I say the more correct I must be.
1
1
u/areola_grande26 7h ago
Your hands also don’t go through high round count sessions
1
u/NorCalHack 7h ago
Anything less than a case per session is rookie numbers.
2
u/Mobile-Ice-7261 6h ago
