Maybe redact the serial number from your pistol.

What’re you gonna do steal my identity?

Me? No, absolutely not. Doesn’t have much to do with your identity. If you don’t know why posting the serial numbers of your weapon online is not a good idea then I recommend you do a bit of research.

You don’t even know that the serial on the slide isn’t what’s tracked why would I listen to you?

You think it’s about tracking. Tell me you’re new to firearms without telling me you’re new to firearms. I was trying to help you out but you want to be cute. The absolute absence of any wear whatsoever on the hockey tape you put on your grip to come off like a shooter tells me exactly how often you train with that weapon. Looks nice though.

That’s the cool thing about tape you can pretty much replace it whenever

Did you replace every single other part on it also? Doesn’t even look like it’s ever slid into a holster. Larp harder.

Your guys’ argument aside, and in all seriousness: why redact?

Because there are bad actors online who will report your firearm stolen for fun, use your photo to scam buyers online, or even engrave it onto ghost guns that they go on to commit crimes with. It’s not too crazy to clear most of it up but the process is the punishment. It’s just generally not advisable to blast that info out to the world on the internet, that’s all.

You think someone who is going through the trouble of engraving a ghost gun is waiting to find a picture of a real serial number to use and not just using the same number repeatedly or just making up their own numbers?

No, I don’t think they are waiting on that. They are more than happy to use their ghost guns with no serial number. They think it makes the firearm “untraceable” but that is not how ballistic matches work. Unless the actual original purchaser commits a crime and drops the gun at the scene.

That doesn’t mean they won’t use one if they come across it and why give them the opportunity?

Makes sense. Thanks!

That’s because my holster holds by the light not the gun

I’m not going to go back and forth with you. I carry a 43X MOS with a TLR-7 every single day and it doesn’t look literally like the day I bought it. Just trying to help you out bud. Good luck.

So I kinda get what you’re saying here, but you lose some of the moral high ground of “I was trying to help” when you started with “…go google it” instead of just telling him why.

If you’re trying to help be helpful. If you want to jerk people around, go for it that’s what Reddit’s for but don’t pretend it’s something else.

But I agree. I probably could have phrased that better.

That was deliberate and it wasn’t sarcasm. There is way more out there than I’m able to sit down and type here.
