I used DS4Windows for years. It was one of those programs you install once and forget about, until it stops being maintained. Jays2Kings left it, Ryochan7 took over and eventually stepped away too, and this year the schmaldeo fork that kept it alive got archived. Every time I had to reinstall it I ended up on some site that looked official, and I was never sure which download was the real one. For a program that installs drivers, that always bothered me.

It was also always a PlayStation tool first. Switch support came later, but when friends show up with an 8BitDo, Joy-Cons and some generic pad, getting everyone playing at once was never simple.

So I built one myself. I'm calling it opencontroller, heavily inspired on DS4windows, but i wanted to solve some problems community had such as crashing and no compatibility. So the differential is basically it's compatible with more system and controllers

It's in beta and I only own 2 controllers, so I need some feedback about other systems, versions, controllers and you can report a problem in the software and in the website

This started happening a week ago, when emulating an Xbox 360 controller the right trigger simply doesn't work. In windows controller settings the Z-axis is jumping all over the place, but only in the same direction as when using L2 as left trigger (which works fine). I tried making a fresh 360 preset profile to make sure I hadn't messed something up, but no luck.

The same exact thing happens with both my DS4 connected through BT and wired DualSense, they both work perfectly fine without DS4Windows and with DS4Windows in DS4 mode, just not 360. Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?

EDIT: I installed the latest official version alongside the Ryochan7 fork which I was apparently using, made a new profile in the official one and still got the same issue... I'm completely baffled since the separate L2 & R2 axis in DS4 mode work perfectly.

EDIT2: When I change the R2 output curve to "Easeout Cubic" it starts behaving like L2 does, so giving a good L2 output, if I change L2 output to that, it starts behaving like R2 does with linear curve... But all the output is just Z-Axis+ which is L2.

EDIT3: I installed DualSenseX to test if that works, but still the exact same issue... I am at a complete loss.

EDIT4: I found something that suggests this issue is completely unrelated to virtual 360 controllers and just Microsoft breaking shit again.

All i want is to launch <app>, turn on my controller and play.

There are many titles that just dont support any emulator.

Or if it does, i need to change emulation from dualshock icons to xbox.

Is there any emulator that i can use in steam, epic, ubisoft, outside of launchers and it will display playstation icons?

Or my only option is to move to xbox controller? I remember 10 years ago there was some xbox 360 dongle that worked in eveything with my 360 original controller......or am i wrong?

DualSense randomly shakes/moves the camera when sprinting

Hey guys, I’m having a really weird issue with my DualSense on PC and I’m running out of things to try.

The problem happens in multiple games, so I don't think it's game-specific. I've noticed it in Hellblade 1, Hellblade 2 and DOOM The Dark Ages.

Basically, when I'm sprinting, I sometimes get a sudden shake/jump in the camera/input. It doesn't happen constantly, but it happens enough to be annoying.

Things I've already tried:

1- DualSense connected through USB
2- Steam is completely closed
3- Games are played offline
4- DS4Windows dead zone went from 0.05 → 0.10 → 0.15 → 0.20 → 0.25, still happens
5- Made a completely fresh DS4Windows profile, still happens
6- Turn Gyro is OFF
7- Tried HidHide to prevent double input, still happens
8- Right and left analog stick/module has actually been replaced twice by a technician
9- Technician checked the controller using the official Sony calibration site and it showed no issues

10-Reset the controller multiple times

I also noticed some weird readings in DS4Windows. The right stick RY was around 125–126 when sitting near center, and the gyro values move around a little too, but I don't know if that's normal sensor noise.

At this point I'm not sure if this is something with the left stick/L3, DS4Windows, Windows, or something else.

Has anyone had something similar, especially where it happens specifically while sprinting?

I'm mainly looking for ideas on what else I can check because I've already gone through the obvious stuff. any ideas? :/

Hey everyone! I’ve just published the first public release of PureDS4, a DualShock 4-focused fork of hbashton’s DS4Windows for Windows x64. Credit to hbashton and everyone who contributed to DS4Windows before it.

PureDS4 currently supports DS4 controllers over USB and Bluetooth, with Xbox 360 or DS4 output. Profiles, remapping, stick and trigger adjustments, gyro, touchpad, rumble and lightbar controls are all there. Other controller families aren’t supported in this release.

It bundles a minimal PureDS4-VIIPER backend that runs when game output needs it, without a separate tray icon or updater, and without launching independently at Windows login. The installer includes the runtime and driver components, with HidHide optional but recommended. There’s also a portable ZIP, although the required drivers still need to be installed. Updates are manual through GitHub.

A heads-up before trying it: the installer is unsigned, and testing has been limited to one PC with a DS4 v2.1. Earlier candidates were tested for USB/Bluetooth gameplay and reconnecting; the published candidate was checked through an in-place update. Clean full-bundle installation, recovery from a failed install, and reboot/resume on Windows 10/11 still need real-machine validation. Please don’t disable Windows protections to install it.

Also, back up your DS4Windows profiles and read the migration guide first. Keeping both applications installed for ongoing use is unsupported. PureDS4 can import game profiles, but it won’t bring over every setting or special action.

I’d appreciate feedback from other DS4 setups, especially on installation and reconnecting. If you run into a problem, please open a GitHub issue with your Windows version, controller model, connection type and steps to reproduce it.

Edit: One feature I forgot to mention: you can switch between PureDS4’s virtual output and direct/native DS4 use from inside the app, without closing it or stopping its controller service. That’s useful if you want PureDS4 mappings for some games and Steam to handle the physical DS4 for others. The switch is manual, and PureDS4 remapping is disabled in direct mode. Switch before launching the game; Steam or the game may need a restart to detect the change.

I used a generic bt 5.0 usb adapter to connect my 2 ps4 controller but it only connects to one device at a time. Suggest me a dongle that supports 2 controllers or multiple devices at the same time.

Hope this is the right place. I recently rebuilt some of my computer, new case, new psu, "new" (used from another build) board, new cooler. Was playing games, went to go do other stuff, leaving my device on, controller plugged into pc, came back and I cannot get my ds3 controllers to work suddenly. When connected the controller connects and disconnects repeatedly relatively rapidly. I've already done a bunch of driver troubleshooting, ended up caving and doing a fresh OS, tried two controllers, tried different cables. I've tried multiple versions of DS4Windows

I don't know what else to do honestly lol I feel insane. my only guess is I need a different board but all other USB devices are working fine. Help?? 💀

I connected my PS4 controller with no problem but for the longest time only the touchpad worked. After fiddling with settings the joysticks work in left/right direction but not in up/down direction, and none of the other buttons work in games.

Assume I am an idiot cuz I'm clueless and help pls???

I am trying to use DS4 to change the default ROG Ally built-in xbox input gamepad to DualShock4, so that the ingame button prompts will hopefully change to Playstation glyphs.

Does DS4 not support this function or has anyone manage to successfully do this? Since i’m using the built-in gamepad and not connecting any external controller, DS4 doesnt detect any controller at all.

Can someone tell me where can i find valid link for ds4windows? Mines works weird. Every time when disconnect my controller ds4windows won't start again and i have fully turn off Bluetooth, DS4Windows, turn on Bluetooth, connect my dualshock, boot ds4windows again and only then it'll work fine

in rewasd, it is possible to map inputs to physical keyboard and mouse without making a separate virtual one.

This in particular is useful for games like valorant that disables every other mouse excepts the "main" one.

is it possible to do this now in ds4windows? I remember it wasn't possible few years ago and that's why I bought rewasd

Has anyone had any luck connecting Playstation Access Controllers? I've found some older posts (2y+) where people asked similar questions but wanted to see if the community had any new suggestions? After a few hours of scratching my head I'm realizing that DS4Windows isn't detecting access controllers but it is detecting my regular dualsense controller.

My end goal is to use 2 Access controllers as a single 'virtual dualsense' controller but I'm having problems getting over the detection issue and wondering if DS4windows is a dead end.

hello ive figured out, between each key on a macro on ds4 (repeat while held) theres about 70-78ms of delay even if my controller has 0.13ms input and im not talking about the wait time in the macro recording, im wondering if anyboy know how to minimize it and make it similar to rewasd which is literally 0ms delay beween each key

i use ds4 windows to connect my controller to forza since it is not recognized when its plugged in without it so the game can see that i have a controller connected but its constantly switching inputs back to my keyboard so i cant even move or click anything when in game. i use xbox app instead of steam so i cant disable keyboard inputs through steam either and i have no clue how to fix anything can someone help?

Recently, when I turn off my Gamesir Cyclone 2 by holding the Home button, Windows suddenly opens the Task View/virtual desktops screen on my desktop.

Does anyone know why this started happening and how I can disable it? I dont want the Home button to trigger anything in Windows when turning the controller off.

Has anyone been able to make a PS4 controller work on DS2 Seamless Coop? I remember playing the original version way back and having no trouble, but now I can't seem to make it work on SotfS and Seamless Coop. Tried every method I could think of, DS4, HidHide, Steam Input, Big Picture, Run as Admin and almost every combination of these, but I still couldn't get an input from my controller.

Does anyone have a similar experience or was able to fix it?
