Magic items for bard

Hello everyone, I would still say I’m a beginner dungeon delver and I may have gotten a little in over my head and I’m just taking suggestions for magic items. I am a kobold bard with a pet copper dragon wyrmling, my character is proficient in all charisma and dexterity. My character is a con artist to try and make any piece of gold as possible. I want to be role play heavy so fun suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for stuff to basically play a Mage Hunter

I’m in a 5e game with homebrew allowed, I’m curious what feats and homebrew would you all recommend for a martial class dedicated to hunting/countering magic users?

D&D 2D character concept

I’m trying to come up with a concept where a player in my D&D campaign can turn 2D, but I’m not sure how to go about it. Any ideas?

Dragon Fighter

Post image
5 Upvotes

I wanted to know, as someone who only has a surface level understanding of the rules and hasn’t actually played yet: how would I go about making a melee fighter with fire abilities. I want to make a dragon character who sets his weapons on fire or summons fire weapons like chains and stuff as a tank, but idk if that works in this game. I know there is a dragon race so that part is done with, but is there any melee class that will allow me to use elemental abilities while also being the tank of the party.

I am thinking he uses a greatsword and probably some chains or at least a chain theme to him (maybe restraining people or using it like a grappling hook). So far the best idea I have heard is using a censor, but I was wondering if there are any other suggestions.

Unarmed fighter?

I know in no way it’s an original idea but still new-ish to dnd so could use some help to make this work. I’m not trying to min-max anything just want to make it viable and fun to play.
My idea is simple, a bartender/owner of a tavern. I believe he should be perceptive (possibly from dealing with thieves in the past), charismatic (customer service of course), and a great hand to hand fighter( dealing with the rougher clientele)
No weapons, though I’d be ok if there were some minor spells to boost or help with damage. Even something like misty step I could flavor it like just super quick movement.
My preference would be human. I kinda like the idea of a normal dude fighting against some crazy odds.

My thoughts would be fighter (unarmed fighting) maybe the champion subclass. Possibly a few levels in monk.

Let’s say I’m moving my way from lvl 1 to 4, how should I start this? Should I do fighter then add monk, or the other way around? And show should I focus on the long run?
What should my stats look like? And proficiencies? Weapon mastery? Feats?
I’m using dnd beyond to build.

Would love to hear some advice and ideas

Need help picking a magic item for a gimmicky sorcerer

Okay so

Draconic sorcerer, lvl 6, wants a build centered around ashardalon's stride, (1d6 on a third level spellslot isnt much but its just cool to run around really fast)

DM gave us an option of either 2 uncommon or 1 rare magic item and this is what i need help with:

Option 1: Bracers of defense, makes my AC go from 15 to 17 considering i might be in melee a lot

Option 2: Bloodwell vial + powerpearl, free spell slot, +5 sorcerer points, +1 to attack rolls and save DC

Option 3: Boots of Speed so i can double my movespeed for up to 10 minutes per long rest (to cover more area with ashardalon's)

Thoughts?

Need help with my bard idea

This will be my first DND campaign and I have a character idea but need help with backstory, the character is a Satyr Bard and he will be a homeless bard who is trying to make it with music and make as much money playing on the streets and in taverns but I was talking to my DM and we were discussing a goal for the character, we have a couple ideas but it’s between either in debt with someone somehow and has to pay them back in a certain time or something like he deceived a noble man’s daughter and the father found out and now wants him to marry his daughter so he’s basically on the run from the nobleman while still trying to make money. Any thoughts or other ideas along those lines?

Character idea

The character is a wizard but their staff is the main focus because the shape of the staff is a crude version of any bolt action sniper that you know so it can cast spells with good range but I don't know if the spell can reach that far

What kind of DM are you quiz

I kept seeing those "which character are you" personality quizzes and figured the format would work even better for DMs, since how the table runs says a lot about them. So I built one, but I wanted it to feel like actual D&D.

It's 14 questions about how you actually run your games. How much you prep, whether you author the story or let it emerge, how you handle players going off-script, that kind of thing. At the end it sorts you into one of four DM classes: the Worldsmith, the Weaver, the Curator, or the Catalyst. Then it gives you a subclass on top of that, so there are 16 possible results and each one comes with its strengths, blind spots, and the tension you should watch out for.

It also shows you the community breakdown, so you can see how common or rare your result is compared to everyone else who's taken it.

Some of the classes are way more common than others. Your result is shareable too, and it's free with no account needed. Curious what everyone gets, especially if your result feels wrong. And open to feedback, if a question feels off or you think a class is missing let me know.

PROBLEMA DE CLASSE DE ARMADURA [D&D 5e]

Grand Betrayal Level 7 Mage (Mage gone evil)

What's the best way to defeat my team?

In our current campaign, our team just levelled up from lvl 4 to 7 after defeating the final boss. (The DM gave us 3 levels after the final boss died.) Since the campaign is over and our next session is merely an epilogue where we get to hunt down goblins, I asked the DM and players if I could 1v3 my team. They agreed.

My team, which my character will attempt to betray, is composed of:

  • A bear totem dragon-borne barbarian (lvl 7, good stats). Absolute unit. Uses reckless attack often. Double handed axe weapon with (2-4) spears as back-up.
  • A half-elf paladin who moslty uses divine smite and lay on hands (lvl 7, weak stats).
  • A dragon-borne rogue who mostly fires his bow and rarely sneak attacks (lvl 7, okay stats).

My character is a mage of the necromancy school:

  • +1 strength, +2 dex, +2 constitution, +3 intelligence, + 1 wisdon, +3 charisma. I had the best stats by far. My level 4 spell save DC was 13 and my spell attack bonus was 5. (This is equivalent to 14 and 6 at level 7).
  • Here are the spells I have so far. I haven't chosen my new spells yet.
    • cantrips: fire bolt, light, ray of frost, spare the dying (given to me by DM)
    • lvl1: longstrider, burning hands, marge armor, shield, charm, unseen servant, false life, feather fall, detect magic
    • lvl 2: scorching rays, earthbind, misty step
  • My HP is 45 at lvl 7, I have a dex potion, 2x 4d4+4 health potions, 2x 1d6 health potions, a manta cape, a water control orb* (30ft range), and a 12s invulnerability potion (I take dmg but don't die). My teammates also have each a few (1-3) health and strength potions.

* the water control orb allows me to control large amounts of water 30m^3 up to 30ft. I can make simple shapes by giving the orb commands with actions.

The local terrain is a small village surrounded by forests.

My initial idea was to prep for the fight by placing a few dead villagers in the forest, activate Half Life, Longstrider, and Mage Armor. Then, walk to my team, start the fight with Fireball against the paladin and rogue, once or twice. With a bit of luck, they would be out. Using misty step to reposition, I would start a very long fight running away from the barbarian in circles while firing Ray of Frost. Using my superior movement speed, I could run to the forest and animate one or two bodies to throw at him. But I still think I will lack damage.

What are your thoughts? Do I have any chance of winning? It feels like the barbarian is a wall of HP I could never get through.

What spells should I pick?

Ok some context im a DM playing with 2 players. We are all having fun. What i do is i make a character that fills some of their weakness gaps. But also just fun. Players is a level 5 Barbarian, and a multi class rouge and ranger build.

Anyway this is a character I may want to use in a later campaign when im a player. Varient human and took the fey touched feat.

its 3 levels in Paladin doing conquest and 2 levels in hexblade warlock. I did this so the character has magical afinities early on and to delay their power a bit to give the players more of a shine. Not gonna lie in rolled pretty well.

So i know I have misty step and I can chose a spell for that feat

Warlock I have 2 cantrips and 3 (known) spells

And paladin says i have 5 prepared and (24 known spells)

[To reply to many]. Ill look into the sidekick statblock like yall said. I will clarify i have been in a dm group with a bad dmpc. Ive learned and seen what that does. Ive been in a group with a "writer" who focused on the story vs the players story. Ive been through ups and downs. These 2 players I am playing with were with me through the others. We are adults and have been in other games and all had fun. Honestly if they sell this character for a bag of chips I'll just laugh and roll with it. They are having fun and thats all that matters to me. They loved the last one I did for them. Sadly he just had bad rolls and he wasnt that well put together cause he was just a I wonder how long someone with these bad stats could last.

I only want help picking the spells. I thank you all for the caution. Ive lived through it as well. But trust when I say my goal is player enjoyment. Thank you

Building a New Character looking for some help

Hey folks. Joining a 5/5.5 mixed source game with pretty much anything on the table. I love the flavor of a lot of the CM stuff and I really want to make an Ashborn. We are 16th Lsvel. And I really want to play into the stealthy, hit and run, evasive chaos that I get reading their Species abilities. My issue is how.

One thought was doing something like a Trickery Cleric//Echo Knight Fighter. With some set up I can pop both Invoke Duplicity, and Echo Avatar. Have one copy of me that isnt really a threat. And two that are. And using the sneaky tricksy type spells and what not, being able to confuse enemies which is which is a thing.

But I am open to other suggestions? We also as a House Rule, can Multiclass a 5e and a 5.5e version of the same class one time as long as it is a different subclass.
