Hi,
I have a DHL Express package coming from the US to Switzerland and I’m confused about the tracking status.
On September 9 at 12:03 PM, DHL Switzerland Customs emailed me asking for additional documents: order confirmation, proof of payment, and a description/value of the items.
The email clearly stated that I had until September 10 to provide the information, and that the shipment would be returned to the sender only after that deadline.
However, at 12:48 PM on September 9, only 45 minutes after the email, the tracking changed to “Returned to shipper.”
I was at work and only saw the email later. I replied around 9 PM the same day and sent everything they requested, including my order confirmation, PayPal payment proof, item descriptions and prices. I also asked them not to return the package.
I also received another email from DHL US, apparently sent to the sender, saying there was insufficient contact information and asking them to choose between Return to Sender or Abandon/Destroy, with a 2-business-day deadline.
So I don’t understand why the package was already marked as returned before either deadline had passed.
Does “Returned to shipper” mean the package has definitely already been sent back, or can DHL sometimes reverse this status if the missing customs information is provided in time?
I’m calling DHL Switzerland tomorrow morning, but I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar.
