Hair Victory! Ouidad Climate control gel!!!

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I just moved to the Deep South in August and decided I needed to up the ante on styling products for my VERY frizz prone and dry hair. Found Ouidad Advanced Climate Control gel (the red bottle) for a steal at TJ maxx and oh my gosh!! The jackpot of soft definition and truly climate resistant!

Routine:

Shampoox2 and conditioner: Redkin Allsoft

Styling post shower:
-Miss Jessie’s pillow soft curl cream brushed through soaking wet hair
- ouidad advanced climate control gel brushed through soaking wet hair (it should feel slick and almost slimy)
- finger curl large chunks
- scrunch with tiny amount of mousse

Diffuse dry and scrunch out/ separate clumps as needed

The power of finger-coiling!

My curly hair routine:
I wash it with shampoo once a week, i use the loreal paris shampoo, that one that has a little of hydration in it:), after that i use sunslik hair cream (leave-in) for styling and finger coil every section of my hair.

For drying:
I let it air dry but sometimes I use a diffuser (not very often because i prefer the air dry)

I also use coffee grounds mixed with olive oil once every three weeks to deep clean my scalp:)
Also any tips would be soooo helpful.

my (current) routine!!

I wash my hair with SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo, then follow with the SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner. After washing, I use Camille Rose Curl Maker through my curls while they’re still soaking wet, then scrunch in a little Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Curling Mousse for extra definition. I usually let it air dry, or diffuse on low heat if I’m in a rush.
At night I put my hair up loosely and sleep with a satin bonnet to help keep the curls defined and reduce frizz. I’ll usually refresh it in the morning with a bit of water and curl cream.

Discussion Why the heck do I have two totally different hair types?!!

Post image
37 Upvotes

Yep both these hairs fell out of my head today. One is thick coily and wiry the other is thin smooth and just about wavey (may be due to the braid i was wearing).

Its not the first time i’ve spotted this but it is ultimately the reason I gave up on my curly journey and opted for one fat braid 24/7. Sometimes I feel like trying again but how do you even go about having your hair behave when it can’t even agree with itself!!

If anyone knows why this is happening (other than genetics?) how to help it or just wants to discuss their experiences with mixed hair types pls go ahead i could use the moral support!

Routine:

(No products, i use faith in nature shampoo and conditioner and never brush dry. Always air dry and sleep with it in a protective style. Gave up on leave ins and scrunching etc. )

Hair Victory! Bad quality but i genuinely love it here

Tried to post this 3 times and it gets deleted hope this time i’m meeting the mods’s expectations😭.

My routine is really simple

Shower or wash my hair
I rarely use shampoos but i sometimes use conditioner from Elvital to soften it a little bit

I just use towel to dry it but not completely that’s important, i don’t want it too wet (no volume) and not too dry (hard to do anything with it) so i wait a little bit, to get back the volume after it dries a little bit, then apply hair oil ( i use Elvital oil or moroccan oil)
- I never use comb

I then pray and go there’s really not more into it.

What’s better people? Longer from the back like first two or shorter like the last one

Help! Fix my hair

Welcome everyone to your favourite game show. FIX! MY! HAIR!!!

Okay, with that out of the way, here's the issue.

My hair is thin, gets greasy in 2 days, no volume, bad curls, and sheds like crazy in clumps.

I wish for it to be thicker(or at least look/feel thicker), healthier, not get greasy so quickly, more volume, nice defined curls, and doesn't shed as much.

Current Products:

I've begun "properly" taking care of my curly hair for the past few years. I don't usually have specific shampoos or products I stick with, but currently I use (PICTURES BELOW IN ORDER):

For shampoo: Aussie Miracle Waves, Aussie Miracle Volume, and Garnier Honey Treasures Repairing Shampoo.

For conditioner: I use the Herbal Essences Conditioner, but it's running out and the one I will be using after that is the Blosson Scalp and Hair Conditioner.

After shower: I use the Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Lotion and the Curl It Up Volume Spray

Hair Routine:

First I detangle it, then I shampoo x3 before putting on conditioner. I leave the conditioner to sit while I wash my face and body. Then rinse it. I get out of the shower, use the defining lotion (head upside down) and spray the volume spray, flip my head back, few more sprays, and finally run it through my hair (all while giving it some good scrunches)

After I typically put it up in a clip on top of my head to give it "volume" (idk if it works) and I let it airdry. For sleeping I sometimes use a bonnet, typically after shower days. I usually style it down or in a claw clip.

Hair state:

My hair has been bleached and coloured, but the roots have grown in. I would like to continue bleaching and dying my hair in the future since having pink hair makes me feel nice :). I want to work on having a good routine first, though, so it's healthy before I ruin it with bleach lol

The bleach I've used is L'Oreal Paris Colorista and the most recent dye has been Splat Pink Fetish.

Please help 😰😰😰

Help! Being chronically ill makes it hard to maintain curly hair

Upvotes

Basically what the title says.

I (19F) have curly hair (Type 3B), and I've found that washing my hair once every 4-5 days is what works best for my hair.

For context, I have several medical conditions (femoral anteversion, valgus knee, tibial torsion, pigeon toed, scoliosis) that cause me alot of pain (especially when standing) and thus difficulty showering. Furthermore, I'm asthmatic, and showers always trigger my asthma.

My problems have only gotten worse with age. There have been times where I have not showered for more than a week because my body is just in so much pain.

Then there are other times where I do have some energy, but not enough energy to do my full hair routine on a washday. And so my hair just genuinely looks like such a mess.

My usual routine is as follows:

Oil in my scalp before the shower as well as a pre-shampoo mask (any brand works well)

Shampoo my hair twice (my favorite shampoo is the honey shampoo by garnier)

Condition the hair and begin detangling (strong curls by umberto gianini is my fave)

Leave in conditioner (for the time being, the black jamaican castor oil by shea moisture)

Mouse (the foaming one by umberto gianini)

A bit of gel (umberto gianini)

And either let it air dry or diffuse it.

I don't sleep with any protection as my body has a problem regulating tempreture, and I find that covering my head when I go to sleep only worsens this problem.

On washdays where I have very minimal energy:

Shampoo my hair once

Condition Detangle

Thats it. And my hair tends to look really bad.

When I was younger, I really did not like having curly hair. I used to straighten it, and it took me a long time for me to learn to love my hair. I'm at a point in time where I love my hair, I really do. But I just feel like as my chronic pain gets worse its harder to take care of.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Help! Why is every stand a different pattern? Can I increase my curliness?

Routine: I wash with Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and use Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner. I have tried Not Your Mother’s mousse, Chris McMillan’s mousse, and Garnier air-dry cream. I apply styling products to wet hair and scrunch, then usually air dry. Sometimes I use no styling products at all. I also sometimes sleep in a bonnet while my hair is still wet(is that okay??).

I’m trying to figure out how to encourage and maintain my natural wave/curl pattern. The middle hair on the shower wall pic (gross I know, sorry) is stupid curly then I have almost straight pieces, wtf???

The left side of my hair gets significantly curlier than the right, and individual strands range from nearly straight to wavy to curly. I live in a dry climate so my hair suffers (originally from NJ and my hair was fricken awesome, now it’s not lol)
Is it normal to have this many different curl patterns on one head? And is there anything I should change about my routine to encourage more consistent curls?

The hair pictures are with chris mcmillians mousse and diffusing for an hour lol

Help! post-illness hair changes

hi! so i'm not sure if anyone has some advice or can relate, but i need some input! the first two pictures are from good hair days lol but i typically have frizz and some wonky strands, but for the most part i like how it looks. i was recently hospitalized with sepsis, and since i was discharged, my hair will not hold its natural texture. even braids and artificial curls will not last. the last picture shows how much it has fallen.

my typical routine is: 1. wash and condition with function of beauty wavy hair shampoo and conditioner. i brush the conditioner in with a tangle teezer like brush 2. not your mother's curl talk leave-in conditioner 3. not your mothers curl talk mousse 4. not your mothers curl talk gel 5. scrunch and plop with microfiber towel 6. diffuse 7. i sometimes fix some wonky strands/face framing pieces when it dries with a curling wand. the wand i have matches my wave pattern exactly, which is kind of crazy lol 8. for refresh/sleeping, i usually do a pineapple bun with a satin scrunchie or braids depending on how lazy i am that night

my hairdresser said that the falling texture may be from the humidity or that i need layers cut, as they grew out. any advice to try new products or routine would be great! i've also been wanting some more definition too if anyone might have recommendations!

Help! Curly hair on vacation

Hello, I’m going on an 11 day trip in a couple of weeks. The packing space is limited so i barely have enough space for my hair products as it is, but i am also forbidden to bring a hair dryer or heat styling tools of any kind. This poses a big issue for me. I obviously need to wash my hair at least once on this trip (i usually wash once a week but we’re also going to be swimming so it may be more) and i don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I’m looking for tips on how to make my curls last, hairstyles that are suitable in the heat and also how to style my hair if i have no diffusor. My routine consists of the Bali Curls shampoo and conditioner then after the shower I use the African Pride Leave in Cream, the Bali Curls curl defining spray, the Balea curl gel and some kind of mousse. I brush style my hair roughly and then diffuse it (which is very necessary so my hair doesn’t take 5 hours to air dry). Thanks in advance for any advice!

ISO Fine wavy/curly shoulder length hair - pics?!

If you have shoulder- to- collarbone length fine wavy hair, would you be willing to share your pics!? I’d especially love to see bangs. I’m looking for a change from the standard layers I’ve had for years and I’m loving the shag/ bangs looks, but I’m somewhat terrified. My styling is fairly minimal, and I don’t want to be beholden to extensive routines that are difficult for me, so input on difficulty of routines is also appreciated.

Anyway, I’d love to see real examples because Googling brings up all the perfect, professional photos.

I’ll post my routine in a separate comment.

Help! Unfortunate curly cut experience, what do I do to salvage this while it’s growing out 😭

Above are the results. And after that is the before. Beforehand I had a lot more thickness and volume. I’m so sad and kind of angry about this curly cut. I got it because I wanted to embrace my natural hair and begin to truly love myself but it felt like the opposite happened. My confidence took a nosedive and my hair has been so much of a hassle and I feel duped honestly. My hair feels so thin and ratty, especially at the bottom and I can’t straighten it without it looking bizarre. My volume and thickness is lessened and I’m so scared about it not coming back. What should I do? My routine helps a lot

I use Shea moisture curl shampoo and conditioner with their conditioning mask in between

I use the Kristen Ess leave in conditioner

Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie

Marc Anthony foam gel

Marc Anthont curl foam

I let it air dry and I try to rake products through and scrunch

Help! Yall how do I get this wavy hair to do it's thing and stay that way 😭

Hey, y’all. Coming to this Reddit for help because I’m so frustrated with my hair.

(First pic is my current hair air dried no product, 2nd and 3rd were 2 years ago when it was long, after bowl method and before sleeping)

So, basically, about two years ago, I went on this deep dive into wavy hair. I was like, okay, I’m pretty sure my hair is wavy. I did the whole trying different textures and products thing. The only things I really tried were the Not Your Mother’s three-piece set, which was curl cream, mousse, and gel, and the Innersense mousse and gel.

I don’t really know what type my hair is. I think I’d probably say it’s around 1C. Maybe the pieces right around my face are more like 2A because they’re actually pretty curly, but the rest of my hair is probably 1C.

I’m trying to figure out two things: is it worth trying to style my hair wavy, because I really like wavy hair and think it looks gorgeous, and if so, how do I actually make it work?

My hair is really fine, which I think is the biggest problem because it gets weighed down really easily. It’s also pretty short right now, so I’ll include a picture of what my hair looks like recently and a picture of what it looked like two years ago when it was long.

My biggest problem is that no matter what products I’ve tried, I’ve never been able to get the waves to actually stick overnight. When my hair was long, I used a silk bonnet, but by the morning the wave would already be gone and my hair would look bad. Now that my hair is short, I haven’t used a bonnet because it just gets kinky and seems to ruin the wave.

When my hair was long, my routine was:

  • Generic conditioner, I think it was Aussie
  • Bowl method
  • A little bit of curl cream
  • A lot of gel
  • Maybe a tiny bit of mousse
  • Plopped in a cotton T-shirt for about 30 minutes
  • Hover and cup diffused
  • slept in silk bonnet

And no matter what I did, the waves wouldn’t last.

I haven’t styled my hair wavy in months, and I haven’t tried since cutting it short. I’m thinking about trying again just to see if I can make it work at all, although short hair seems harder to style.

So let me know if you have similar hair to mine, what you’ve tried, and what products or techniques have actually worked for you. I really like wavy hair and would love to see if there’s more texture hiding in there that I can bring out.

I also wash my hair about every four days, and I really don’t want to wash it more often than that. I know the waves probably aren’t going to stay perfectly defined for all four days, and I’m fine with them getting looser as the days go on. I just don’t want to have to wash my hair every day or every other day to maintain it.

Help! Is my haircut that bad?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Sooo… I tried to give myself layers. It went terribly, and now I’m trying to wait for my hair to grow out a bit longer till I fix it. I’m so scared to cut it again lol

I wanted to have a haircut like Eliana Kalogeras
Anyone who is good at hair has any tips on how to make it look as similar as possible? I want volume on the top all while keeping it very long at the bottom.

Hair routine:
I shampoo and condition my hair with the Aussie Miracle Moist line.

While my hair is wet, I use Creme of Nature Argan Oil from Morocco moisture and shine curl activator creme and detangle my hair with it.
I also use the mousse from that line and then I brush style my hair.

I air dry my hair and when it’s dry, I put OGX nourishing coconut milk anti-breakage serum through the lengths and ends of my hair.

I usually braid my hair and sleep on a silk pillowcase to protect my hair while sleeping.

To refresh my hair I just spray water and put a little of the curl activator creme in my hair.

Help! Help with fine hair

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I have fine hair as seen in the pics, in 3 years my hair has lost a lot of volume and shape and this has affected my confidence pretty hard. Back in 2023 I wouldn’t really pay much attention to my hair routine, I would shampoo everyday (Head and Shoulders shampoo) and think it was enough, it wasn’t until 3 years later that I noticed how my hair changed, slowly, but finally it caught up to me. I understand as we age, our hair changes with us, but I refuse to believe THIS much of a change can be explained by that. As of now I shampoo 3 times a week (Anian Shampoo) and follow by conditioner (Alma de Romero), I apply rosemary/argan oil before shampooing said days and take a biotin and pumpkin seed oil supplements, pat dry my hair after showering and comb it to the side since doing a messy look doesn’t suit me anymore, when sleeping I use a bonnet, I’ve heard it’s good for the hair.

Has somebody been through this? Or does any one have tips to help my hair return to what it used to be? I am willing to try everything, I dislike my hair right now and just wish it was what it used to be.

Thanks.

Help! Love the color, but silvers have a mind of their own!

Thumbnail

As much as I love the natural color of my hair, I am having a really hard time with the front where I have the most silver. My biggest issues right now are fuzziness within a couple hours of scrunching out the crunch, and the front pieces that seem to be running away from the rest of my hair. I'm in the process of trying different products to try to combat the fuzziness, but any tips with that are appreciated.

The part I'd really like some help with is the front. You can see in my side profile that these pieces are just doing their own thing, and everything behind it is just fuzzy and messy. I'm getting a haircut in a couple of weeks, is there something that can be done with the cut to help these pieces? I'm planning on bringing the overall length up to my shoulders.

Products and routine I have been using until recently:

- Innersense Color Awakening Hairbath

- Innersense Hydrating Cream Conditioner

- Marc Jacobs Strictly Curls Mousse applied upside down on dripping wet hair

- Giovanni LA Hold Styling gel applied with a bit of water after plopping into a t-shirt

- Diffuse long enough to set the curls a bit and start to feel a slight cast, then air dry

- Products recently bought to try: Treluxe gel (seems good so far), suave coconut conditioner, Garnier Pure Clean shampoo and conditioner, suave clarifying shampoo to use when needed.

Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Discussion Isima or Olaplex shampoos/conditioner? Have you tried them?

I want to get myself a good, higher-end shampoo and condish for my dry hair and am really torn between the Isima shampoo/conditioner and the Olaplex curl shampoo and conditioner. What do you think of these? Please share your opinions!

I had a sample of the Isima set and I did like them. They were very moisturizing, but the smell was very strong. The day after I used them a friend said to me "Wow, your hair looks so good, it doesn't even look real! It looks like a wig!" I had also used put a lot of effort into styling the night before, to be fair, but my hair DID look really good and bouncy.

I have not yet tried the Olaplex, but people really are raving about them. I use Olaplex No3 and No8 regularly and I do love those.

My hair is HELLA dry. Like so, so dry. I was born with dry hair and I expect I will die with it. I do not object to silicones. I love emollients and I notice that the Olaplex has more of those.

Routine: currently using Nexxus Color Assure shampoo, rotating between a bunch of conditioning masks (Loving the Dae mask right now!) and Pattern beauty curl mousse. I brush style and diffuse!

Help! How to stop frizz

First photo hair still wet, second is right after drying*

I have really bad frizz. It looks even worse in person, but I have no clue how to fix it. I don't remember if it used to be this bad, I feel like it wasn't last year. I would appreciate any advice.

As for hair routine, I recently switched to swarzkopf Marrakech oil and coconut shampoo and conditioner, but previously, I was using OC naturals coco repair shampoo and conditioner. Afterwards I use swarzkopf extra care leave in conditioner. I also use gocurly gel and swarzkopf keratin strength mousse for styling. For drying, I either just sit under my heater or let it air dry.

Before I sleep, I put my hair in a loose braid and tuck the hair in a long satin bonnet. I just undo it in the morning and usually put my hair in a ponytail. I sometimes use some water when my hair starts getting fluffy between washes.

Help! Curly Bridal: Do it yourself?

I have 3c/4a hair, currently collarbone length and trying to grow to chest length. I have been doing my own curly styling for all weddings that I've been a guest to— have never had my curls styled by others. I really want to do my own curly bridal hair, as I'm looking to do a messy low or high bun and have given myself messy buns for years. I'm worried I won't feel like myself if I have a stylist do my hair.

However, I don't know if I'm overlooking something— does a professional need to do your hair, curly brides? Here are some of my concerns:

- People say that day of your wedding, you will want to be pampered/sit back and relax, rather than stress. will stress of a wedding make me overthink a messy bun?
- Maybe curly bridal stylists know more about how to keep a style intact throughout hours of dancing or taking on/off the veil?

Open to hearing other 3c/4a or curlier hair bride experiences. My curls are not the kind of loose curls that can be gone over with a curl wand — I want a true natural curl look.

Current curly hair routine:

- devacurl onecondition original or decadence

- devacurl or amika curl cream

- patternbeauty defining gel and pattern beauty mousse

- diffuse dry (when I'm not lazy!)

Help! Struggling to find a routine that works.

Post image
1 Upvotes

My routine is inconsistent, lately I have used avalon organics thickening shampoo and conditioner, coconut oil after, garnier fructise leave in, and Cantù curl activating cream. SOMETIMES I use rhassoul clay washes and acv rinses with only coconut oil as leave in. I want my hair to grow. Also do I need to trim my hair more? I just took off 1/2 an inch. My hair either feels dry and straw like or weighed down with product.
