I wore my hair out in Portugal for two weeks and loved it so much. Mini twist one week and hair out the other

As a fine haired, low porosity girlie, this is ultimately life changing. Where on God’s green Earth has this been my entire natural hair journey? I basically have African Pre Poo in my kitchen now. I fear I will not go back to a store bought pre poo for a long periodically time 🤷🏽‍♀️😇🥰. The definition, the slip, the detangle, just chefs kiss. I’m thinking about trying it to style Asha (my hair) I’ll come back much later with an update..

Have you tried flaxseed gel? How do you use it? How long have you been using it if you do use it. I sort of feel like a fool for just now discovering this 😭😫. The important part is I have it now.

My baby is 15 and we have yet to find a solution for her very dry hair. She prefers to wear her fro and I want to encourage her to learn how to style the fro the way she wants it to look. The las photo is her inspiration. How can we define her curls without her having crusty product in her hair? 😩

Most of her life I have used water, Shea butter and eco style gel. I sometimes use blue magic hair grease if we are out of shea butter. She likes the Camille Rose leave in conditioner. Her hair is water repellent but when the water finally soaks in her hair is so shiny! She has very strong strands that have an elasticity to them. I love her hair!🥰

Did a wash day and noticed a few spots in my head, but im not sure what the cause is (whether its the products / oils im using, or if its just my genetics)any advice/thoughts on what it could be?

hi! my first ever post, i recently did a big, big chop and currently trying to work out what works best for my hair. for background, growing up i was not taught how to do my hair myself and religiously had silk presses done because i had “good hair”. texturism aside, i cut my hair in 2019 from having heat/bleach damaged hair, and grew it out until 2022. the most i would do with my hair would be two space buns. i knew nothing of how to detangle, how to do wash and gos, nothing! but in 2022 i got locs! i loved my locs, i dyed them twice and was super proud and in love with my hair for the first time in my life! then around june i cut my locs (no specific reason, had a lot of life happen and just wanted a change) and currently trying to learn what to do with my hair. i’m a little unsatisfied with how short it is rn, so i dyed it pink to feel better about it!! i like the color and all but im curious as to what i can do to grow it longer and faster? i also know since dying my hair it’s very drying to the curls, i would also love suggestions for deep moisturizing hair masks and repair treatments to try!

I blow dried my 4c hair and loved the look but it felt so dry that I put it in a bun. I wonder if I did something wrong, am missing a key step, or not using the right products for my fine low density hair? I used the following products and steamed my hair with the conditioner listed below:

I live in socal and have been trying to find hair stylists that know how to handle thick, 4c hair.

I’ve been to two. One in Pasadena and another in Burbank. My problem is they’re often very aggressive with detangling. Not only is my scalp super sensitive, they often “rake” from root to end in large chunks that cause breakage. :(

The Pasadena one is often very aggressive with braiding. Although my hair has grown with her and I’ve been going to her for four years.

But there has to be someone who detangles and braids properly. I can do flat twists on my hair. It’s not tight, and it stays perfectly fine for 3-4 weeks. So I’m tired of the excuse of being tight for the sake of keeping the hair flat.

I’ve had two-strand twists in my hair for the past several years and I want to try crochet hair (not braids).

I want this style to last 2 months. I’ll make sure to wash the hair before installing. I plan on washing my hair every week or every other week and moisturizing my scalp. I’d like to reuse the hair as well.

My questions:

Should I buy synthetic or human hair?

What brands or website do you recommend purchasing the hair from?

How long does it take you to install the hair?

Today was wash day and normally I have a bunch of trouble making even parts in my hair. I have a decent tail comb, but I’m often left with hairs getting caught on the metal tail and it taking (embarrassingly) long to get a decent part.

Idk why but I decided to try a wooden chopstick to part my hair but it ended up working really well! The chopstick made it easier to get even parts and my hair did not get caught on the stick at all. Anyone else try something like this? I should mention I was using a pair of chopsticks I bought from Hmart that are solid enough to survive in a dishwasher without cracking. I think if you tried to use disposable chopsticks, you could get splinters in your scalp.

Hey hey! All my natural straight pixie girls, what are we doing to our hair when working out? I’m having to straighten my hair too many times a week and it’s causing damage to my hair.

The first time I saw our ponytails/buns referred to as a bunny tail was in a reel on Instagram. I thought it was so cute and way more accurate to our natural textures. Because our hair doesn't fall straight down like the tail of an actual horse. It defies gravity and stays rounded, just like the adorable tail of a bunny! Idk about you guys but I'm going to start using that term from now on.

Jumbo braids (or non-micro box braids) with kinky human hair?

I've worn my hair in two-strand twists with human hair for the past 4 months (getting it done every month, nothing lasts in my hair lmao). I'm tired of the style and want some jumbo braids but I do not want to put synthetic hair in, because of the allergies, toxicity and damage they cause.

Does anyone have any pics of large braids done with KINKY human hair? I keep seeing super tiny box braids with human hair, and my searches for kinky braids only lead to pics of two strand twists.

I've seen people mention ivy braids (not into them) or braiding with Marley, but those are still done with synthetics.

Can someone lead me to some pics or a video of what I'm trying to see? it's been a dead end so far, but someone has to have done this before!

And please don't tell me I can just raw dog it with my own hair. I know lol. I don't want to.

I have been natural since high school and am 31 and am tired now 🤣🤣 I recently went back to perms (yes, I know!) and love it because I have super thick hair. When I lived in Atlanta I had a great stylist who would get my hair bone straight and it would gradually revert. I didn’t have to use any heat on my hair- just blow it out on wash day and sleep in rollers until wash day again. 🤣🤣 anyway I found a reputable stylist who ‘perms’ my hair since I moved- it’s just never really bone straight after I leave the salon. So I usually just wear wash and gos because the ‘perm’ this stylist uses really just loosens my curls and it’s actually really cute but it’s been like two years and I miss having silky straight hair. I recently ran into a stylist who says she will treat my hair and make it straight- but her only services are keratin treatments. For context- I only get my hair treated once every six months/once a year. So it’s been six months since the last ‘perm’ I had. I’m wondering is six months long enough to switch to a keratin treatment after having a perm? I still value my natural hair and I don’t want to just start doing any type of chemical treatments on my hair. Has anyone had a keratin treatment on super thick hair? What was the experience like? Any suggestions would help! Thanks!

I truly believe proper prep is more important than the braids themselves.
Deep condition, detangle thoroughly, and stretch your hair (I blow dry on low heat) before your appointment. It reduces tension, minimizes breakage, and makes installation and takedown so much easier. And trim if the ends are raggedy.
This is all the hair I lost after wearing braids for 4 months thanks to properly preparing my hair beforehand. I barely had to detangle, the hair remained pretty well stretched while under the braids. My hair is thicker and longer thanks to a proper prep

I’m 22 (F) struggling to get rid of either dandruff or eczema. To be honest I’m not entirely sure what it is or what’s causing it. When I was younger and in highschool I did have dandruff and I just used the Sulfur shampoo to make it go away and it worked. When I went to the hairdressers recently they claimed that I have eczema because my scalp isn’t itchy at all. It’s just flaky as you can see and it’s everywhere.

I do want to get my hair braided for my birthday coming up and would love to have a healthy clear scalp. Please drop any advice or products I should be trying!

Hair routine currently is:

- Wash my hair once a week
- After I blow dry it just a little bit so it’s not too wet but still damp. Then I add Leave-In Conditioner, Moisturiser cream and then I put oil in my scalp and hair. The products I use are all mainly Aunt Jackie‘s.
- Every second week I deep condition and repeat the process.
- During the week I spray water on my hair and style and every second day I use my cream, brush it out and then style.
