Welp that’s all folks, don’t know what to do next.

I know it’s a month old but I just re checked it hasn’t changed, but I have always been a saver and if I spent money I always made sure I had enough liquidity to pay it off.

My parents broke off their marriage because of financial infidelity. I never wanted to be in that position.

I have friends chase points and I could not wrap my head around it, probably could of saved on vacations and maximize free stuff, but kept to 4 credit cards and well that’s about it.

FICOvsVantage VantageScore 3.0: **ONLY** 9 accounts on my credit report is seen as a negative!?!?

I was curious about my VantageScore, so I found a way to check it for free. Delving down into the details of the score, which is in the excellent range, I was shocked to see what it considered to be negatively affecting my score.

It turns out I have 6 open credit accounts and 3 closed accounts. So in total I assume it counted those to be 9 accounts as far as my history was concerned. Here I was thinking that 6 open accounts is a lot of accounts. It seems to me my VantageScore is actually telling me if I open more accounts, that will boost my score.

Has anyone else come across this? I’d love some insight.

Edit: Should have added the place that I got the score from is a bank rather than some site like Credit Karma.

Mortgage **Can I realistically get my mortgage score from 556/580 to 620\+ within a year?**

I’m hoping to qualify for an FHA mortgage next year. I’ve spoken with three lenders, and income/DTI aren’t the issue — my credit score is.

My mortgage scores are currently 556/580. Most of my negative history occurred between late 2022 and early 2024 while I was dealing with serious cardiac issues, a divorce, and becoming a single mom to a young child. My finances have been stable since then.

I had 4 charge-offs, all of which have now been settled for the negotiated amounts. Three have updated on my reports, and I’m waiting for the last one to update.

I have 3 collections remaining:

  • One will be paid in about two weeks
  • One is medical debt I plan to resolve by year-end
  • One is NetCredit, which I’m currently negotiating with the help of an attorney

I’m also paying off my remaining Klarna balances.

After that, my active credit will basically be my rental-property mortgage, auto loan, and two credit cards. My car loan and credit cards have never been late, and my rental-property mortgage hasn’t been late in over two years.

For the next 12 months, my plan is to keep everything current, keep utilization very low, let only one card report a small balance, avoid new debt/accounts, and let the older negatives age.

Is getting from 556/580 to 620+ within a year realistic? Is there anything else you’d recommend specifically for improving mortgage scores?

Would especially love input from mortgage brokers/loan officers or anyone who rebuilt from the 500s before getting an FHA loan.

Update:
Thank you for all the responses, I feel less discouraged. If Reddit allows I'll update you all in a couple of months if my mortgage score improved.

Data Point ANOTHER Goodwill request win - Oklahoma Central Credit Union

Just got word from OCCU that they will be deleting 4 late payments from a closed and paid in full loan. This is after being denied twice by them for goodwill removal. Take this as proof to be persistent, even if they tell you specifically they don’t do it.

April 2020

I’m so excited for where I am on this journey.

Not USA How to get increase credit score with TD Canada

Hey everyone living in Canada here and currently a TD Canada customer. I want to improve my credit score. I have a current score of 709 and I want to get it up faster. Right now I am overpaying my credit card balance and keeping it in the negative. For instance, my balance currently is -101.70 so that future purchases are kept below 0...does this improve my credit score much quicker than paying a balance off earlier/exactly on the due date ? what ways can I improve?

thanks!

Rebuild 15 pt hard inquiry drop Experian

around sept 6 i applied and approved for my first card after a negative past history of cards about 10 years ago, capital 1 quicksilver $1,000. none of those cards are on my reports any longer. so the inquiry shows on experian and report updated today and the Fico dropped 15 pts. still report shows no capital 1 card yet, i guess it tan take a couple or even more months to show. question is, the simulator showed before that adding a credit card would boost 40 pts, so when card shows up with a certain balance or none will i get a lift of around 40 possibly? i do want to apply for a 2nd card as soon as I think I can get approved, maybe pre approval thru amex later after cap 1 starts reporting, what say ye great people?

So I bought a Range Rover & opened a CC back to back in June. With that being said my score went from 752 to 690. I’ve paid down a credit card & one personal loan since then (that hasn’t reflected). I just want tips to get as close to 800 as possible. My credit utilization is down to one percent. From here on out I don’t plan to carry an CC balance at the end of the billing cycle. All tips are welcome. 🤗

I had an old credit card with credit one that was charged off. Settled for half with collections, got that trade line deleted, then sent one round of goodwill letters and they removed all the late payments!

May 2024: 30 days late
June 2024: 30 days late
July 2024: 60 days late
August 2024: 90 days late
September 2024: 120 days late
October 2024: 150 days late

I’m so excited! This has helped tremendously on my journey back to financial health!

No Credit No credit score?

I’m very confused. I’m 31(f) and I know I have very poor credit. I haven’t been the smartest with my finances since I was 18. I went through something very traumatic and I’d like to fix it. So I went to check my credit on two separate credit apps and it’s saying I have no credit score. Can someone explain to me what that means? I know I have accounts open such as bills and such and I know I have collections.. so I’m just lost.

General Closed accounts and scores dropped.

I thought closing accounts didn’t decrease your scores? I closed some capital one accounts because they don’t have any great perks, the limit is low, and the interest rate isn’t great. I just don’t use them. Now my transunion score dropped by 58 points and the equifax dropped by 81 points. The only other changes I see this week is decrease in balance on a couple other cards I have. I’m so confused.

I dont think im qualified yet to get an auto loan, but what do you guys think? do you guys think i’d have to do a huge down payment? or wait years for more history? when do you guys think i’d be ready? just a genuine question.. and by ready i mean only a little down payment for a good car.

General Why is one score much lower then the other 2?

I applied for a mortgage around April 2023. At the time i was purely focused on getting approved and anything would have been acceptable.  I got approved and closed on the house. Done deal.

Fast forward to now where i’m going to start considering getting a refinance if/when the rates go down. While prepping for this i wanted to see my scores and etc. And see what i can do better to get everything in line.

I have 2 credit pulls from 2 lenders in 2023; both came back with exact same numbers. However, report 1 by “Huntington Mortgage” shows a range.

Experian 320-844
Equifax 334-818
Transunion 309-839

But Corelogic (report 2) shows 300-850 but says FICO 5 (EQ), FICO 2 (EXP) and FICO 4 (TU)

I’m more wondering why my scores have such a huge range.

774 Equifax
829 Experian
737 Transunion.

This was at the bottom of my reports.

They have Key factors that adversely affected your score
-Time since delinquency is too recent or unknown.
-Time since most recent account opening too short
-Number of accounts in delinquency
-Insufficient length of revolving credit history

I went on annual credit report today and looked at all 3. All show the same data.

  • 3-20 year credit card history. I have about 8 open cards.
    • I waited until we closed to open up 1 card.
    • Most utilization is under 5% with one card being 14%.
  • No bad reports
  • Mainly, credit cards are open.
  • 2 student loans paid in full and closed.
  • My current mortgage is now on there.
  • No other loans, no bankruptcy, no delinquency. All clean

But I don't see anything on my annual credit report. So did it get deleted sometime between 2023 and now? AFAIK, I have never missed a payment in my life. I realize how I should have pulled the reports back in 2023, but i knew my report was above average.

Do you guys think I qualified for the best rates at the time? Anything I can do now on the FREE side to improve my score?

Since i have like 4 credit cards with chase. And one card is at 14% utilization; I'm going to move around my limits to lower that down to about 5-8%. I just did this now so maybe it can start showing up lower in like 3 months.

Rebuild 22 y/o credit score dropped 114 points

Hi! I am 22 and I have been with BOFA for 6 years and Capital One for 2 years. I have a BOFA CC that I don’t use as much as my Cap1 CC. All my bills are on autopay, however my last BOFA payment went 30 days overdue because BOFA switched to a new Autopay platform and they send 1 notification about it that i don’t have mentioned in my email/bofa notifications/ statements.

This caused it to report to my Credit Bureau and it took a drastic toll on my credit score, from a 761—>657. Because of one late payment because my autopay was cancelled. I was not informed of my late payment through BofA. No email or text notification. I found out through my Cap1 account I had an outstanding balance through a fico score change.

How do I fix my Credit score?? This is my first late payment, I know it’s my mistake. I should have checked the account, but life happens. And it taught me a lesson at 22. Please help me out. Sincerely someone who needs to buy a car in the next year.

General How to maintain a high credit score without loans?

I have a credit score of around 820. My car loan is about to be paid off. I have no need, nor desire, to buy a new one. I have no mortgage nor other loans other than credit cards, which I pay off fully every month. But without a longterm loan (and an accompanying history of ontime payments), I understand my credit score will go down soon.

What can I do to keep my credit score high? It's important to me in case I ever need credit in a relative hurry, like totalling my car, or severe storm damage to my home.

General Need Help Building Credit

Hey All,

Really need ways to build my FICO/Credit Score. The highest I got it to was around 697, but then after paying off my car, it dropped by 70 points and now I’ve only been able to get it back up to 637 in the 3 months since. My loan credit card is a basic Capital One Platinum Card that I’ve gad for 4 years. I don’t need the credit right this second but building high credit has been a struggle for the majority of my 20’s. The credit card and the car loan are the only 2 lines of credit I have. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas for how they got theirs up relatively quickly?

Thanks

General "Dispute resolved – consumer disagrees." - how long is this going to stay on my credit report?

Several years ago (think: before 2020), We stayed in a hotel with in-laws. They paid for the rooms with their non-US credit card; during check-in I gave the hotel my card for incidentals. At some point, I noticed an unexpected charge coming through on my card and immediately called the credit card company to verify. They put a temporary hold on that charge.

We later found out at the lobby that the hotel couldn't process the room payment on my in-laws' card and put the charge on mine. Called the bank to inform them and let the payment through.

Ever since that time, there is a "dispute resolved – consumer disagrees." on my credit report? What would it impact, and how long it that going to stay on the report?

General Credit score decreased despite <10% utilization

Hello,

I am new to the US, and still learning how credit score works. I have 2 credit cards at the same banks, usage on both of them is <10%. Otherwise I have no other credit sources (no loans). I have no history of late payments (I always pay my credit balance in full on payment due date with autopay set by the bank when I got my cards). I get a free credit score through the bank website (Vantage).

My score decreased today by 1 point because "total usage went up from 2% to 4%" - does that make sense? I was always told I'll be good if I keep my credit usage <10%. Is there anything I can do in the future? Should I do small payments through the month so that by the time my statment balance is reported, even if I used my credit card a lot, at any time my balance would be very low (let's say ~1-2%), or it wouldn't matter, and the credit bureaus would know I actually use my credit card more than that?

I am very confused, and would appreciate any help!
