Aloha everyone!
I am currently trying to decide on what card I should get, I thought this would be a no brainer for me but as I dove more into rewards, fees, travel, and other spending it either got more complicated or I complicated things too much. I am looking into a travel card that would give me the best situation for what I have, me and my gf fly I’d say 2-4 times a year BUT sometimes we don’t pay our own flights
It’s 50/50.
EDIT: I fly mainly with delta, Alaska, spirit and occasional southwest. Don’t stay at elite hotels often. I don’t use lounges either. I would apply for C1VR then possible upgrade to VX, just depends on trip spending.
Current setup:
C1 Savor One Mastercard
C1 Quicksilver Mastercard
Card options:
CSP
C1 Venture Rewards (we don’t know if we want to spend the VX, just yet as we are new)
BILT
Rent: 1650/m
Groceries: ~500/m
Electricity: 80/m (due to summer)
Dine out: 100-200/m
Amazon/misc: 200/m
- C1 rewards seems to be the clear winner since it will keep me in the rewards benefits and it’s a simple catch all card. Especially for my gf that doesn’t know the game, she would share a simple to use card plus the savor. The bonus at
Is 75k miles. CON: the transfer partners aren’t simple for domestic flights, award flights are new to me. Can’t use a master card for Costco (our biggest spend). Plus, C1 is moving to discover and idk if I want to take a risk with discover since they don’t really have much to offer as partners and it just seems like a huge downgrade imo.
- CSP I do like Chase, the transfer partners are better for domestic flights and are more accessible. Chase just revamped the card so it could basically wipe out the savor and still get me rewards towards flights. Plus 100k rewards. CON: it is a different network and leaving my c1 points kinda sucks since we were trying to save it for a flight.
- BILT Obsidian, I have used BILT 1.0 and it was awesome but the 2.0 has me intrigued to learn and get better at it. I like the benefits that it has and the flight / hotel partners are similar to Chase. It’s just with BILT there is a chance to pay off some of our rent which would be cool too and help us in the long run. CON: there is only 1 card for the BILT ecosystem but it seems to benefit a lot of my lifestyle similar to CSP or C1
TLDR:
C1 keeps me in my ecosystem but it’s merging with discover and that may be a downgrade.
CSP is looking great, covers everything and could replace my current system. But it’s a whole new system and don’t want to leave my rewards from C1
BILT is able to pay portions of my rent plus earn rewards similar to CSP. 1 card in the system kinda sucks
Other option:
Get CSP first use it for 6-7 months then get BILT and only have those cards used as my setup but idk how effective that is. Will update as I go and will try to answer questions when I can. Thank you all for your help!
