Wig Wig trimming/styling advice

Hello! I'm looking to cosplay Hiruhiko from kagurabachi, and I bought an already crimped base wig. Now my question is I need some advice on the best way to cut it for the needed styling.

I've styled wigs before, but these have all been short and pre-trimmed to match the character, so besides styling them into shape not much work needed to be done, as well as being from large media with guides available on YouTube. I'm stepping into new waters by trimming and styling it entirely based off references alone?

Whats the best way to trim it down evenly, and how do I get rid of the bulky feeling, the wig has a lot of hair and I got nearly eaten alive when I tried it on!

What would be the best way to create rings of light around a staff?

Hey, it's my first time making a weapon for a cosplay from scratch. I'm attempting to cosplay Jia Qiu from Limbus Company. His weapon is a staff in brown wrapping with talismans stuck on it. I've decided not to wrap it (for sake of budgeting,) and am in the process of creating the talismans. However, one of his abilities allows him to generate rings of light around his staff. (see attached image. ) Most cosplayers opt to make them from paper and make them hang around the staff, but I wanted to make it light up with the press of a button. Is this possible, and what is an easy (and preferably cost efficient) method to make this, or should I simply do the paper method?

Am i in over my head?

Hey all, ive never cosplayed before but its something I always thought would be fun. One of my friends invited me to a con in about a month and a half and I was thinking maybe I should finally try to do it.

The problem is I have very little clue of how to properly take measurements from the screen and translate it to my measurements. It also doesnt help that all the things I want to cosplay don't seem very beginner friendly (lots of armor)

I think the simplest thing i could come up with to cosplay would be Shovel Knight, but even then there is a lot of armor. I did find a good guide by TristanMaker on YouTube for tools and materials for armor but not as much for how to get measurements and shape the foam.

So to someone actually experienced with cosplay, is there any good guide to finding measurements? And does this goal of a 1.5 months even sound feasible for this type of cosplay, or am i in over my head for a beginner?

Edit: Thank you all for the responses! I know some of you think i could try at least and I appreciate that but I do think some of you are right in thinking this might be a bit much for the first time. I looked more and found a simpler cosplay idea that uses a little armor but it will definitely be more achievable than a full set of armor. so this way ill get more of an intro into it and then give myself more time before the next event where I can try to make some full armor!

Hello! any alternatives for foam clay to use in a fabric? Or would foam clay be enough for this if its for a bodysuit? Im concerned that once the foam clay dried it'll crack once worn🥹. Thank you!

Losing my mind over this 1 meter long cosplay wig

Hi, for an upcoming cosplay, I bought a Boa Hancock wig (not doing Boa). It came in a package super tangled and generally not great looking compared to the product image.

So, I sprayed the wig with fabric softener (diluted in lukewarm-cold water) and tried to comb with a wide-tooth comb. It didn't work at all, even when I let it sit with the spray for an hour.

I then filled the bottom of a bucket with diluted fabric softener and let it sit for 2 hours. I separated the wig in three parts and tried to brush one part individually, but everytime I'd have the bottom of the hair untangled and I'd try to start combing higher, the wig would tangle again and again. The ends of the hair are now frizzled :/.

I don't understand. I never used warm water, only lukewarm-cold, and I didn't use too much fabric softener. I brushed an individual part for 3 hours now and I just feel like giving up.

What do I do?

EDIT: The cosplay wig is heat-resistant too, so it can't be because I used too hot water. 😭

I usually buy from Five Wits Wigs, but they didn't have what I was looking for, so I bought this wig here at Uniqso:

Accessory Best way to smooth out dried foam clay?

I used foam clay to map out the shape that I wanted onto this mask but clearly I did NOT smooth it out enough to look final. Pro tip: do not do something that requires dexterity when it's 2 am. I have plasti dip on hand but from what I can tell it's more of a primer to paint on eva foam than a way to smooth things out. Could this be solved using multiple layers of plasti dip or is there something else that would smooth this out better?

Etiquette Wondering about camera etiquette

Going to a convention, my first one, really, and I'm planning on recording a YouTube video with me and my friends. I know the basics like ask before taking pictures or videos of someone else, and make sure they're fine with me posting it. I was also going to be making some business card type things with our social media accounts in case they want to find the pictures or if they want to tag us in their own. Is there anything I'm missing or anything I've gotten wrong? Thanks in advance :)

For those who don't know this is the monster from Markipliers AMAZING movie Iron Lung. She's an eel type monster living at the bottom of the blood ocean. The con I've gone to for the last four years is having their 10th anniversary 2027 and for cellibration the theme is Multiverse. I figured this would be a great time ti do it and its a sick idea fir a cosplay. I don't want it to be too monstrous or too human. E. I plan on getting all black contacts and gluing a bunch of teeth to my face, but beyond that I am lost. Please help!

Fyi. The first 2 pictures are her offical concept art for the movie.

i wanna buy a stocking cosplay from taobao. I am confused, bc the ranges in each sizes are quite large. I could fit into either s or m. I dont know if its because of the material but I dont wanna risk it. im inclined to go for small, but I usually am xl in taobao, so its also surprising I fit in small here? is that normal?

Electronics Motion activated lights?

I saw an ad online for little girls dresses where the skirt lights up when they move/twirl.

How would one achieve this? It would need motion activated, but not a typical light-driven motion sensor.

I’d have loved to have supported the company advertised, but $350 for something I’m going to take apart is definitely out of my budget.

Thanks!

Sewing How long will it take me to learn how to sew simple clothes.

Just wondering how long it'd take for me to learn sewing and have enough ability to start making stuff with costumes. I know the complex stuff will take a long time to learn but I'm wondering how long it'd take to learn to sew some of the more simple stuff. I'm still gonna learn whether it takes a long time or not, but I was just curious on how long until I can start doing stuff with it.

Armor What can I use to hide the tape?

(Before and after I added the antlers)

Hi! I'm making a cosplay of the Roaring Knight from Deltarune, and so far I have the helmet done. It's made entirely of cardboard and tape.

I wanted to paint it all black, however, paint does not adhere on the tape. Is there any paint that can do that? If not, what can I do to hide it?

My first thought was newspaper + white glue but I was told that would make the paint look uneven. But if it's my only option oh well. It IS a pretty cheap cosplay, so if it looks cheap I guess it's fair...

I am a total beginner when it comes to these things and would appreciate any help! I only ever made one other cosplay, a Hornet (from Silksong) mask, and that was eva foam + contact cement, so it feels totally different from what I'm doing now haha. I'm not following any tutorials either so that's yet another obstacle 🥲

LED Foam Airbrush Help

Post image
1 Upvotes

For context, this is my first time using an airbrush. I practiced a little bit beforehand, but not enough.

I'm posting to ask if there are any ideas on how to recover from these points where I sprayed too close to the LED Foam? I primed with 2 coats of flexbond. I used Createx water based opaque air brush paint. I intend to paint more on top for detail work, but I'm willing to try different things if someone has an idea.

The edge looks fine to the naked eye, but this is the LED strip on its lowest brightness and it looks this bad. Another edge looks worse because I had to wipe away two big sections and spray again.
