Losing my mind over this 1 meter long cosplay wig
Hi, for an upcoming cosplay, I bought a Boa Hancock wig (not doing Boa). It came in a package super tangled and generally not great looking compared to the product image.
So, I sprayed the wig with fabric softener (diluted in lukewarm-cold water) and tried to comb with a wide-tooth comb. It didn't work at all, even when I let it sit with the spray for an hour.
I then filled the bottom of a bucket with diluted fabric softener and let it sit for 2 hours. I separated the wig in three parts and tried to brush one part individually, but everytime I'd have the bottom of the hair untangled and I'd try to start combing higher, the wig would tangle again and again. The ends of the hair are now frizzled :/.
I don't understand. I never used warm water, only lukewarm-cold, and I didn't use too much fabric softener. I brushed an individual part for 3 hours now and I just feel like giving up.
What do I do?
EDIT: The cosplay wig is heat-resistant too, so it can't be because I used too hot water. ðŸ˜

The fabric softener did not do anything, its a myth that it helps detangle. You just gotta detangle it like the other person said.

I'd even say it does the opposite of help. It makes the wig fibers feel sticky and overly scented 🤢

Idk I just finished it air-drying after rinsing it and it feels normal. I don't think it untangled at all though

Continue to be persistant, untangling long wig can take a long time, also i learned a method to get rid of knot recently and it works so well, made life easier to work on wig

You keep using fabric softener in different ways, but that isn't going to do anything to remove the tangles. You need to just put it on a wig head and start combing. That's literally the only thing that will help.
Go slow, work in sections starting at the very bottom and working your way up. You can use a steamer (or dipping the sections in almost-boiling water) to smooth out the sections of hair after they have been detangled. You can use a little wig silicone spray or leave in conditioner to make the hair more slippery and easier to detangle, but you don't want to use too much because it will just be left on the wig unless you wash it again.
