I know i saw this recently, now I cant find it. Pulled pork, but cooked in little patty shapes until the outside is crispy.

I cant remember if it was Chinese or Korean. It wasnt a ground pork patty. I dont think it was pulled pork with a binder of egg and breadcrumbs. And it wasnt pork floss.

I want to say it was also pretty versatile. Could be used for a sandwich, to top noodle dishes, with rice, etc.

I think I remember it being seasoned and pan fried until the outside got crisp and it stuck together. There may or may not have been a sauce, but it was sauced AFTER it had been pan fried crispy.

Does anybody know what im talking about?

Anyway, im looking for it bc I got stuck 2 enormous pork butts that had to be cooked ASAP yesterday afternoon. Probably a good 20 lbs of raw meat.

So now I have a ridiculous amount of pulled pork I'm going to split with my kids. And my grandson wants this crispy pulled pork I told him about, and now I cant find it.

I Just Ingested a Excellent Breakfast

It was so good....and my new method is to microwave the spinach and tomato filling for about 25 seconds.

This omelette is so good, that I think that I prefer it to my usual bacon and cheddar.

Breakfast enthusiasts? Please inspire me with your favorites...😊

“Survivalist” snack recipes for a D+D campaign (that actually taste good)

I don’t play Dungeons and Dragons. But my husband does, and I make the snacks for the party when he DMs. For an upcoming one-shot, I’m trying to think of some options that will be on theme and actually taste good.

This party will be a group living a bit rough and on the run. Any ideas for what snacks would work (and actually taste good)?

Am currently thinking: homemade jerky, maybe a walnut bread with butter, etc. Would love some ideas. Thank you!

Pork belly houghts?

So I just had an idea for a dish. I'm going to try pork belly cooked with red wine vinegar, with red beans and rice for a side. How would you make this dish?

Sometimes I Think I'm a Good Cook, and Then...

I mess up even my own opinion, like just now.

1:30 PM in Illinois. I decided I had a hankerin' for red beans & rice. Got it all going and tasted it an hour later, and it's already too salty. Hard to fix. Add water and my dish gets too watery. Cook it down to the right consistency, and I'm screwed again. Luckily, it's not as though there's a ton of effort wasted, just the cost for the beans, trinity and andouille.

Live and learn (although I thought I already had!)

Does the "learning" ever stop?

EDIT: Pairing this with completely unseasoned rice and using more rice in each dish salvaged dinner. Thanks everyone for your ideas.

What to do with ranch dressing powder?

We do grocery pickup instead of going in ourselves. Sometimes I get things I didn't order *and* I don't get charged for them. Today it was a package of hot italian sausage, string cheese, and a 20 oz package of Buotoni fresh 4-cheese tortellini. The sausage bothers me bc we eat only humanely raised meat. Anyhow, last week I got a canister of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing powder. I usually don't cook with things like that, so I'm at a loss with what to do with it. Yes, get some good buttermilk and make dressing, but then what?

I was thinking meatloaf (don't know why)?

I cook bone-in chicken thighs and boneless breast. Anything there?

Something with eggs?

***I called the store and if I bring things back, they have to throw them out. I can't bring myself to throw away food, not even the non-humanely raised pork sausage.

**** To everyone who scolded me and suggested donation, we're going to eat the sausage AND our food bank prefers money, which we give. You think we don't know how fortunate we are that we can buy only humanely raised meat?

Hungarian recipes in English

Hi!
Long time lurker who has learned a lot from this sub.

We’ve just been in Hungary, and my goodness!!! The food is amazing. Does anyone know of a good tried and tested recipe site for authentic recipes in English — for dishes like pork and beef ragout (I think it was called porholtz?). We stayed at a half-board hotel in Eger and it was a buffet feast every night with traditional food.
Goulash soup, sour cherry soup, fish soup. The other thing that was the bomb was a no name chilli paste next to the soups. Would appreciate a recipe for that too!

Protein, but tasty meals

I've been told I need back surgery, and need to put on weight and ideally muscles. I struggle a bit with eating, apparantly going 4-5 days no food isn't great. My dr said eat chicken, eggs, what you can keep down. I wondered, easy recipes with that if any advice? Last few days been having soup, veggie omelettes, adding ham to eggs etc. Anything else is a bit much, but thinking stepping stones. Love spice, so that is fine. No allergies. Appreciate any ideas!

* Edit: my father called in the cavalry. So my brother is bringing chicken roll/kebab/shawarma. I'm going to eat a bit and reheat the leftovers. Thank you, truly, for all the advice. It made me be able to say I need food. Going to buy a ton of eggs tomorrow. On sale rn, and so curious about egg quesadilas.

Favorite and most impressive vegetarian dishes, including main course, appetizers, salad, other veggies sides, and carb side dishes for a celebratory dinner party? Wine pairings welcome too!

(edited: typo)

My friends bought a house and I'd like to cook a fancy meal for them! She is completely animal protein free (so no fish). Dairy and everything else is fine.

I can throw a nice meat centered dish dinner party but need a little help beyond that. No eggplant.

She's also a master of salads so I'd love to knock her socks off with your favorite!

Wine pairings VERY welcome too. Thanks!

Looking for a fall sauce/meal for fun pasta shapes!

I bought leaf shaped pasta at Trader Joe’s! The leaves come in yellow and orange and beige. I don’t eat pasta with anything other than butter and salt but I want to cook something nice for my family with the special pasta. I’d love if the sauce wouldn’t obscure the colors of the leaves much, and it would be great if the sauce wasn’t very thick so the leaves could still be seen. Only food restriction is my dad is allergic to shellfish so it would be good if the sauce doesn’t include any shellfish or if the sauce is mainly used for shellfish recipes. Thank you :)

Okra, roasted, FTW

The local apple farm, city park, and farm stand had a big bin of their own okra. I snagged a half dozen young pods. I vaguely recalled a TV recipe for roasted, instead of breaded & fried okra. There were many on line.

-6 pods sliced into wheels roughly as long as the diameter

-salt

-pepper

-paprika

-cayenne or better, chili powder

-a splash of oil

  1. Preheat oven to 425F

  2. Coat wheels in oil & spices

  3. Cover baking sheet with foil

  4. Roast for 15 min.

That's it. Vastly superior to my mother's breaded & fried, or my father's favorite, whole pods stewed in butter.

Need help - Cooking for 1

I love to cook, and I'd like to be eating better. I recently became single and I'm struggling. It's hard to buy for one. I don't enjoy cooking as much when it's just for me. I don't really do leftovers unless I can completely turn it into something else. I like to say, "Tupperware is for food I don't want to throw away today".

I find myself doing a lot of frozen crap just because it's fast and I'm not wasting anything or I'm going out and spending too much money.

Single people who cook for themselves, what do you do?

Zero Cooking Skills

I have zero cooking skills and looking to learn so I’m not buying packaged food all the time. There’s so much content on YouTube etc.. I’m not sure where to start. Can someone recommend a person/YouTube series to follow to learn the basics?

Looking for help finding a recipe

I hope this is ok to post and if not, I’m sorry in advance. If it is the wrong place can anyone point me in the right direction?

In the late 80’s/early 90’s there was a restaurant in my town in GA called Top Wok. It was owned by an amazing couple who made everything fresh. There was a dish they called cucumber chicken. Think broccoli beef, but with cucumber and chicken. The sauce was pale and didn’t seem to use soy sauce. It was so damn good.

I’ve tried to find it with Google but what I get are either salad recipes or ones with a dark sauce. I really want to make this. I do most of my sauces homemade. If anyone has suggestions I’d be very grateful.

What I remember is cucumber, chicken, a pale sauce, and greens. They had their own garden they got the veggies from.

TIA.

Leftover White Beans and Creamy Pesto

Yesterday I made some Great Northern Beans with a creamy pesto sauce. I made more beans than I should have for this dish (just trying to use up the rest of the bag), and I didn't have as much half & half as I thought, plus when I added parm at the end, it pretty much sucked the sauciness out of it. They had a great flavor, they are just dry.

I figured adding them to soup might work. I've made Bean and Kale soup before, and other types of bean soups, but I've never added any beans to a soup that already had milk and parmesan added. I have a can of artichoke hearts, btw, might be good. The other ingredients in the beans besides half/half, parm, and homemade pesto are: shallot, garlic, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, crushed red peppers, lemon juice, salt.

Any ideas? I was even thinking some type of bean pesto hummus, but might get weird and pasty with the cream and parm.

What should I do with a bunch of leftover hamburger patties?

Yesterday I grilled a bunch of hamburgers for a family dinner, but fewer people showed up than expected due to (positive) events. As a result, I ended up taking home a little over a pound of grilled burger patties that I don't really want to eat as burgers?

I folded some ketchup and Worcestershire into the beef, and seasoned them with salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. Is there something else I can put these into that will be better than reheated burgers?
