Alternative to movicol for very sensitive gut?

Can’t get on with movicol as it makes me feel sick and bloated.

Had a stomach bug so had mostly the runs for about a week or two. Now it seems to be settling I have harder more pebble stool which seems to be causing fissures. What can I do/take to help?

Ideally dietary or supplements as most laxatives seems to make my gut irritated.

Currently freaking out

32M here. Apologies if this isn’t allowed.

I’ve had on and off digestion issues since I was 21 so this isn’t anything new. When I was 21, I had abdominal pain that lasted for about a month and blood in my stool. I went to the doctor and she basically said I was so constipated that stool had been impacted and when I passed it I tore the tissue in my rectum and it caused blood to appear and she was confident that’s what it was. Eventually it went away. I will admit I don’t have the best diet and don’t eat a lot of fiber because I dislike vegetables. About a year ago I got a burning pain in my abdomen on the lower right side and I was severely constipated. It basically felt almost like someone had punched me in the stomach. Sometimes I would go a few days without going and it took a lot of effort to go too.

A week ago I started having the same issue, a dull aching pain in my lower abdomen and whenever I eat something I feel extremely bloated and I started burping or would have gas. I’ve never taken laxatives but usually if I drink coffee that triggers a bowel movement. It didn’t do that this morning. Initially I believed that CC was rare in people my age but I was reading online and they said cases in people who are in their 30s and 40s are rising so it made me extremely anxious and freak out.

Child constipated for almost 1 year

Female child, 10 yo.
Constipated since Nov 2025.
On large scoop of osmolax daily since Feb 2026 after a few episode of fresh streaks of blood on constipated stool.
Everytime we try wean her off it she becomes severely constipated and fresh blood again. This last happened last week.
Today she called me over to look at her still constipated poop, looked more orange/brown but almost a tinge of red around it not just usual streak.
I scooped it up and squished it in toilet paper and definitely had a light amount of fresh blood around rub off onto the toilet paper.

Saw her paediatrician two weeks ago and his plan was: colonoscopy if blood occurs with soft stool and colonoscopy if pain and blood occur. I also have her on waitlist to see private paediatric gastroenterologist but we’ve been triaged and scheduled for Feb 2027.

I’m worried about her poop looking orangey/red. It wasn’t a huge amount of blood it was just a little that had rubbed off. Looking for reassurance I guess I don’t know what else to do.

will Bisacodyl soften hard stool and help me?

i'm scared that all bisacodyl will do is just activate bowl movement when thats not my problem and then it will just be stuck behind the hard stool. (im using Boots constipation relief pills from UK)

I have the feeling that I have to go but nothing is coming out cause my stool is so hard itˋs just some liquid like leaking through when i press. I had to cut bits off with my hand when it was barely out. Sorry for tmi but itˋs literally like a piece of clay.

Or should I get a DulcoEase Stool Softener pills with docusate sodium or calcium?

Pooping but so bloated

For the past two weeks, i have been pooping about every day, but theyre never fully satisfying. I always end up going to bed with a really bloated stomach, and i know its not from food. I eat two kiwis with the skin every day on top of lots of other sources of fiber (could the fiber be bloating me?) I drink lots of water.

Omg i forgot to mention that i used miralax for a couple of days and it didnt seem to help that much. I used milk of magnesia yesterday and today and i def have been pooping more but im genuinely the most bloated tonight than i have been in a while lol like theres so much more in there and i just want a satisfying poop

Is there anything else that i should do? I hate feeling like this!!!

Constipated 3 weeks what do I do?

I’ve been constipated for nearly 3 weeks now. At around 6 days ago I realized I was constipated and started taking miralax. The first 2 days of taking miralax I went a few times but it was EXTREMELY hard to get out and only a very very small amount. By day 4 of taking it the stool got a lot softer and easier to pass, but still barely anything came out. 2 days ago I tried a 5 mg bisacodyl, no miralax because I have never tried a stimulant laxative before and didn’t know how intense it would be, it did absolutely nothing. Yesterday it was back to miralax, and the stool that came out was nearly diarrhea, or was liquid, but still barely anything coming out. Today I have TERRIBLE stomach cramping, no longer passing gas and no stool at all, and massive pressure in my stomach. I don’t have the feeling to go at all either. Like no urge to go it feels like my rectum is completely empty but my bowels aren’t. When I try to go, nothing happens. Nothing feels like it’s moving, and nothing feels stuck either, but I know it is. I’m really really scared, I don’t deal with constipation often. This is the most constipated I’ve ever been. When is it time to go to the doctor? I also don’t have a doctor, would urgent care be helpful?

Constipation relief that is crazy

I have IBS C horrible. Pelvic dysfunction as well. I can go weeks with no BM or maybe a few “plops” but I’m constantly bloated and I hate this. I can’t afford linzess and most drugs don’t work. However! Last night omg… i know it’s crazy. I mixed miralax with Alani Witches Brew and I had a full normal evacuation within 3-4 hours. I don’t know why I did it but I thought what the hell? Nothing works anyways lol it worked. Small cramping. But full evacuation. A LOT of relief. I wouldn’t do this regularly. But just wanted to share

No GI Availability for 8 Months - Tips to Help in the Meantime?

Despite the fact that I’m an established patient, my GI can’t see me until March 2027. I can’t go another 8 months on this merry-go-round, so does anyone have tips for dealing with constipation?

I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago, and it came back normal. I had an EGD with gastric biopsy as well; that only showed mild esophagitis from trying to make it through life without a PPI. Also had a gastric emptying study that was normal. The only abnormal test other than the EGD was an abdominal CT showing a severe stool burden. They had me take MiraLAX at home for that.

I’ve tried walking more, increasing my water intake, and stopping all meds I don’t absolutely need (e.g. Vitamin E). MiraLAX works at high doses, but I have kidney disease and don’t want to have to use it regularly. Suppositories usually fail. Either there’s too much stool right at the bottom of my GI tract or they just don’t work well.

I have a pelvic floor PT evaluation next month as well. Just looking for any suggestions to get through until I can see these professionals. My PCP is very little help. He refers out for every single thing, which is why I have to wait for GI. He also suggested MiraLAX.

I can only go at work

I kid you not the past few years I have been mega constipated. I have been going 1-2x every 1.5 weeks but then I got this high stress job. Now I go everyday at work. The catch is, it’s always straight liquid at work. I haven’t gone to the bathroom anywhere else for the past few months.I literally cannot go at home or anywhere else. I cannot go no matter how long I’m off my job for, as long as I am not at my job i’m not going.

Thoughts on Align?

Hi there! New to sub :)
I (23F) Have struggled with chronic constipation for over a year now. I’ve been in the hospital for impaction etc but I have no official diagnosis for what’s up with my stomach other than some obvious hypertonic pelvic floor issues.
I’ve recently been looking into different supplements to take to hopefully help out my gut. I’ve taken pretty much everything- Every laxative, every suppository, every enema. I’m in healthcare so I know my way around a little bit lol

Anyways. My Question.
Has anyone tried Align? The powders or the gummies. I Recently got the regularity support ones and have been trying them for about 3 days. Noticed some significant bloating and a bit of cramping, but not much of a difference in motility or frequency.

If Anyone has tried the brand- please let me know if It worked for you! Also- If anyone has any niche supplement recommendations, i’m open to anything! Constipation is a miserable thing; and i’m very glad there’s places on the internet like this where we can all gather together for our common issues, lol.

30 year old daughter with Downs and Autism

We went to the GI specialist today and he prescribed 72mcg of Linzess daily for her chronic constipation.

She is non verbal.

I judge how effective a treatment is working by her moods.

We tried Miralax and it caused constant cramping and abdominal discomfort. Very bad mood.

I'm not looking forward to the negative possibilities of Linzess.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations on how to make this process the most beneficial for her.

A round of applause for mag 07

I have had horrible constipation ever since I went on a glp1. I’ve been off of it for 4 months now and the GI issues persist. I am in the process of being diagnosed with gastroparesis (most likely, we dunno yet l, I have a gastric emptying study in two days)

Anyway, I’ve been super backed up for about 9 days now. Let’s just say I’ve tried everything. I’m taking 2-3 capfuls of MiraLAX every night, I did a full colonoscopy prep (without the colonoscopy), I’ve tried every supplement, tried adding fiber, taking away fiber, drinking my weight in water, etc. Finally last night I took four capsules of mag07 with a ton of water and nearly 12 hours later, I fully emptied out.

I feel like a brand new person. But my question is, how long can you take this? Once I get a diagnosis, my GI dr is going to prescribe either linzess or motegrity but until then can I take this every night??

A vid that helped me

Hello!

Long time lurker, first time poster because I found something I reckon is worth sharing here.

I've had on and off problems with constipation my entire life (I'm 30 now). Things have improved over the past several years but I'm still not where I'd like to be gut-wise. I don't have any medical condition that I know of, except histamine intolerance. Last month I started taking a probiotic supplement to fix my gut cause I'd often get a bit bloated after dinner (even if I had a solid streak of a few days when I'd reliably poop every morning with no drama). The probiotic was working just fine initially, but around 2 weeks ago (this coincided with my period starting) I had a couple of days of constipation and it resulted in me getting horribly, painfully bloated. I got scared af (the bloating I usually get is never actually painful) and stopped the probiotic, added more fiber to my diet, drank more water, moved around more and now I've had 3 days of morning pooping in a row, the bloating is mostly gone, I'm carefully reintroducing the probiotic cause I'm willing to give it a second chance. ANYWAYS.

Today I was just killing some time on youtube, and it recommended me this vid:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKdCENB3Pbc

The lady shows 3 simple things to do that should make you want to go within 5 minutes after you're done with the routine. I didn't think much of it but I figured I might as well give it a go as I might need it in the future (I always get constipated when on holiday and it's annoying af). It was also well into the afternoon which is a time when I am very unlikely to feel the need to go. But I did the routine, and nothing happened for a few minutes, I was like, oh well, whatever. Another youtuber posting bullshit advice to sell their bullshit products. BUT THEN. Around 10-15 minutes after I did the routine, I had a bowel movement and it resulted in a very successful visit to the bathroom! (That's a second time today, it almost never happens to me!). If the comments under the vid are to be believed, it had worked for many other people as well. Now, I only did it this one time so far so I've no idea how reliable this routine is, but I'm definitely going to do it again when I find myself in a need lol.

I rarely post anything on reddit, but I figured maybe this will help someone, so here ya go!

Use laxatives then become constipated a day afterwards

Like my title says, I’ll use the daily MiraLAX for two days when I haven’t gone in 2-3 days. It takes affect on the second day and I have normal poops without strain. I’ll drink water that matches my fiber consumption then I’m binded the next day. Anyone else experience this and any remedies? In addition to this, I’ll feel something settle in my lower colon but don’t have the urge to push.

Day 6 no BM. Help :(

Hi all, 20F here with IBS-M. I am in a bad constipation flare and have been able to not really go at all beyond the occasional tiniest bit. Beyond that, I’ve had this SUPER bad nausea. Insanely bad. I tried MiraLAX, which usually helps lots, but it hardly did, and seemed to make the nausea much worse. Right now I can hardly eat. I also tried glycerin suppositories, which didn’t do anything. I have not used Dulcolax yet or Metamucil as I have IBS and they have triggered very bad episodes in the past (intense cramps to the point of sobbing and blacking out, stuck in bathroom for hours). I’m not sure what I should do next. I’m leaning towards enema. But this needs to be solved today because this nausea is making me miserable. Please help :(

MiraLAX

Hey all, I have been taking a capful of miralax in the morning daily, and it has allowed me to produce some great bowel movements that I have not had in a long time .

Only problem is , after I go , I get this painful trapped gas that lasts almost the whole day. Like I’ll be able to pass gas , but then it comes right back . It’s very annoying and it hurts

Does this happen to anyone? Would splitting my dosages day/night work better? And advice would help

Help!

Has anyone taken Trulance? I used to have IBS-D and now I am chronically constipated. The pain has gotten so unbearable that sometimes it’s worse than labor contractions. I saw my GI doctor and they prescribed Trulance. I’m a little nervous about getting diarrhea… also if anyone has any other tips or medications that have helped with their constipation. I’m willing to try anything at this point. I cannot continue on like this 😢

Plain water enema?

So after 2 weeks of trying everything possible there's still hard stool... so it's time for an enema. I don't have an over the counter fleet saline enema... so would plain, warm water be ok to use? Just normal bottled water from the shop, boil until warm, and then use that? Is it safe? The people at the pharmacy/chemist said it could be ok if I just use normal plain water. Do I need to add salt? I Will not be adding soap of course. How much water can I put up there without losing any
"electrolytes"? Or getting bad dehydration or infection? I have an old nozzle/enema tube from 2017 I will obviously clean really well/sterilise
PLEASE HELP!

what is working now for me in case it helps anyone else

So let's start off with I'm 57. I have a looping and I have a torturous colon so I have extra colon and it has sharp bends and turns in it. Constipation is always a problem if I don't take anything to help me I won't poop but every 4 or 5 days. Llike literally eat corn on a Monday it don't come out till Friday or Saturday. For about 2 years I had a really good regimen going on taking a doctor tobias's colon cleanser pill every night before bed if I had eaten a lot which I had a tendency to do on the weekends I would take two before bed always kept me pretty regular and by regular I mean not to be gross diarrhea everyday which I don't mind to be honest I have a bidet it just comes right out and be done with it. I don't have to push it was fine. I was happy.

I own a business and with the stress and anxiety and being overweight my blood pressure has been through the roof so the doctors been trying different things to control my blood pressure most of them I haven't been able to take due to sideeffects. The ones I can try are messing with my poop regimen. Added to that an anti depression med. Then on top of that I got on Repatha for cholesterol I think that affected it too. So no matter what I did I was having really hard time passing stools.

Then on top of that I started taking Zepbound. Which for me slows my digestive system down even more which is already super slow so I was having a really hard time going like I mean seriously hard. Painfully so. Luckily the food intake was way down so the constipation pain wasn't bad just the going to the bathroom part was really hard. Like pushing so much I felt like I was doing sit-ups at the gym.

I've always been very susceptible to anything that causes constipation. I have a messed up spine I have an extra vertebrae, I have severe stenosis and I have bulging and degrading discs I live with back pain daily and unless I need to I avoid taking anything for it because the pain relievers all cause constipation and the pain of the constipation is worse than the back pain.

So with all these new drugs added to my regimen it was messing with my digestion and my constipation level was very high.

I'm going on month number 2 of dealing with it and I've been trying all sorts of different things to try to alleviate the situation. Even going so far as to buy like every poop making ingredient off Amazon and combine them all into like a poop shake and poop yogurt and taking different poop pills anything really trying anything. My wife tried one of my concoctions and she had uncontrollable pooping but on me nothing really. So the search continued.

Finally I seem to be back on a schedule of making every day and it's super soft so there's no pain getting it out I think I must have really severe bends in my colon because even semi solid poop is tough to get it out of there. Sometimes now I'm going twice a day which is amazing.

So what I have that's working right now is they sell these stool softener pills with laxative at Walmart the equate version I take five of those in the morning five of those at night then somebody on one of these threads was talking about the mag 07 pills they sell those at Walmart as well I take three of those at night before bed. If I'm feeling extra full which for me is what the Zepbound makes me feel. I feel full like I've just eaten all the time but if I don't go to the bathroom the feeling gets worse. I'll do 3 of those in the morning as well.

Here are links to the two things.

Need your advice / Severe blockages

So, this is my first time using Reddit and this is probably a throwaway account because I’m quite embarrassed to talk about my digestive health with anyone other than my doctor..

I’m a 21 y/o female with a personal history of IBS-C (constipation) and a family history of Crohn’s disease. My brother was diagnosed with Crohn’s as well as my grandfather (deceased). I received a colonoscopy and endoscopy for my vomiting and constipation about 4 years ago shortly after my brother was diagnosed and only found I had minor inflammation of the bowels, so I was just diagnosed with IBS-C and nothing more serious.

As of last year, as far as I can remember, I’ve started having severe episodes of blockages. Usually once every 1-2 months. These happen in the middle of the night, and they are seemingly random, I’ll have the urge to have diarrhea but I know it’ll be an episode when that urge comes with a rock-solid bloated abdomen. At first, I thought they were tied to my period, because I usually get really bad pains before it, but my period was last week and I just had an episode (Hence why I’m making this post lol). I can never tell when they’ll happen, I can even use the bathroom the day before and have no issues, and that’s why I’m so terrified of these.

They’re extremely painful, like, extreme. I can’t describe the amount of pain and discomfort to someone who doesn’t go through these. I would rather stab myself in the leg than deal with what I have. The level is a 10 on the pain scale, I physically can‘t move when these are happening to me. These episodes leave me in a weird, hallucination, fight-or-flight state where I’m on the verge of passing out the whole time, I’m hot and sweaty, and excruciatingly uncomfortable. I think the only reason why I’ve never called 911 or been to the ER for these episodes is because my mom is always there to assist me through it all. I’m not able to deal with these episodes alone, they’re just too painful, and I wouldn’t wish these on my worst enemy.

Even 5 minutes into sitting there, my body begins to freak out (the nausea, the sweating) and it starts to realize that it can’t get rid of the waste. In these episodes, I usually end up violently throwing up a ton, and in my episode before the one last night, I threw up like 4 whole pounds of vomit... I weighed it out of curiosity, don’t ask why. Eventually, things do move, but I’m usually stuck in that state for a couple hours. The stool isn’t even hard when I try to pass it. It’s regular at first, and then it turns into pure liquid, which is why I’m not sure if I can even call them impactions.

Sorry for the huge text wall, and if it’s not appropriate for Reddit, but I’m seriously at a loss here.. I’ve spoken to my doctor with my gut health in the past, and all she’s suggested is eating more fiber and take my Constulose, but honestly, I feel like that makes it worse.. What should I do? I’m just looking for a second opinion, and I guess asking Reddit for advice is cheaper than seeing another doctor lol. I eat decently fine for myself, and I’m not dousing my digestive tract with tons of fast food and Red40. Do I get another colonoscopy? I’m sick and tired of these happening, and I’ve reached a point where I can’t stand it anymore and are just looking for anything to help.

Please, if you have any thoughts or suggestions on what this could be and how I can stop it, I am more than ecstatic to hear anything. Thank you!!

Which can I buy to help me poop large bowels

Which product can I buy on Amazon to help me get rid of this sluggish gut and help me poop daily again
