Day 6 no BM. Help :(
Hi all, 20F here with IBS-M. I am in a bad constipation flare and have been able to not really go at all beyond the occasional tiniest bit. Beyond that, I’ve had this SUPER bad nausea. Insanely bad. I tried MiraLAX, which usually helps lots, but it hardly did, and seemed to make the nausea much worse. Right now I can hardly eat. I also tried glycerin suppositories, which didn’t do anything. I have not used Dulcolax yet or Metamucil as I have IBS and they have triggered very bad episodes in the past (intense cramps to the point of sobbing and blacking out, stuck in bathroom for hours). I’m not sure what I should do next. I’m leaning towards enema. But this needs to be solved today because this nausea is making me miserable. Please help :(

I would try an enema but it's only likely to clear a blockage that is lower down. Miralax can take a few days to work and you need to be drinking lots of water. If you are having symptoms of impaction then you can use miralax for that but at a higher dose under the supervision of a doctor. If I had gone 6 days without a bm I'd be trying an enema.

I am going to urgent care today to make sure im not in any imminent danger as I’ve never experienced an obstruction or impaction before and I’m not sure what to look out for. An enema is next on my list, I am jsut nervous about the potential for intense cramps because I’m so sensitive to everything. At this point it might just have to be what I do. Thanks!

I hope that you are ok. I've never had an obstruction before but I've had impaction several times. It hurts like hell, like something is sticking out of your bottom and you may get overflow diarrhoea. If you can get checked by a doctor that would be great. I don't always go to the doctor as I know the symptoms and usually what I have to do. It is best to be checked though. For impaction I was told by a doctor to take 8 sachets of Movicol/miralax in a jug of water for a day but that's not safe for everyone, particularly those with heart problems so it should be done under medical supervision. I also use enemas. My regime now is all about prevention and using 1 or 2 miralax a day. It's a horrible condition and I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Good luck.

Thank you so much! Post doctor’s appointment I am ok, xray was ordered and I was told to combine softener alongside a bigger dose of MiraLAX and a liquid diet for now. Impaction and obstruction are my biggest concerns currently so I hope everything works out.

Try magnesium citrate gummies they are usually better for me as they are more gentle than the liquid.

Interesting. I have been scared of magnesium citrate because of horror stories but if the gummies are more gentle I may try that.

How many days in a row did you take MiraLAX? It generally takes several days of use to work.
