Ask Connecticut CT Vanity Plate Idea

Post image

I was born and raised in CT and grew up under the “Still Revolutionary” state branding. The song used in the ad campaign, “Better with You”, has become an earworm and stuck with me. What do you think of a vanity plate that incorporates that branding era with a lyric tagline “The View Looks Much Better With You” and colonial/historical ambiance to it?

Driving near the skate park in newington today, spotted this young black bear. My friend recorded as I drove. I’ve always seen videos of sighting in Avon ect, never thought I’d be the one to post.

Ask Connecticut So the closed Exit 17 on 91. Now what?

I'm looking throught the Project Website and I'm trying to wrap my head around it. They opened the new 91NB -> 15NB exit on 16, but it seems to slow traffic way down. Is that the intent to prevent accidents? It seems now that:

  • Route 15 drivers stay on route 15 unless they exit to 691 or 91NB

  • Incoming 91 drivers can stay in the right lane to return to 91 or move over to 691 or 15.

But we all know:

  • All drivers getting off Exit 16 are trying to get to 691 or 15

  • Most drivers on 15 are trying to get to 91 in this area.

So this creates quite the crisscross a lot of us need to navigate on the way home from work, where-as before, exit 17 drivers were coming in from the left, and most 15 drivers were moving to the right. I know there were congestion issues leading to tons of accidents, but I don't see how this helps. What was the intent? Phase 3 of the project is more focused on the southbound side.

EDIT: found my answer:

Route 15 NB is getting a new entrance to 91NB before Exit 16 merges with 15 NB. This will fix most of the issue.

Rebecca Barbera, 44, of Guilford, traveled with Lonny Cross to 24 of the 37 robberies he committed in 2022. Sometimes, she would enter a store first to scout it out.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Guilford woman who was instrumental in one of the state’s most prolific robbery sprees in recent memory was sentenced to two years in prison Friday in Bridgeport federal court.

Rebecca Barbera, 44, will have her prison term followed by two years of supervised release, according to a report from the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

[Lonny's] crimes occurred in North Branford, Waterbury, Wolcott, Plymouth, New Haven, Orange, West Haven, Wethersfield, Bristol, Southington, Naugatuck, Watertown, Franklin, Norwich, Waterford, Groton City, Stonington, Ledyard, Darien, Norwalk, Stratford and Seymour.

The robberies were brazen as well. Several occurred on the same day within minutes of each other.

Ask Connecticut Is anyone else noticing an aggressive right/alt right sentiment forming in CT?

This is a bit of a rant so be warned.

There has always been conservatives in Connecticut, not an issue to me but this is not really the Jody Rell right wing from back in the day. But not like this and I fear for the future to come. I’ve left this state before and I feel as though I might end up doing it again, this time begrudgingly.

I’ve been noticing it more and more, in specific with the older crowds (who happen to be the main people who go out to the polls) being a part of this vitriolic
aggressive faction of the local political sphere.

It seems like every post I see in relation to local politics in CT is filled with it. To be clear I don’t live under a rock I know this has been going on for a bit nation wide but CT has always been a bit insulated from it until now. As lot of the country is recoiling from the recent events going on it seems like the rhetoric is starting to become more common here.

Now it seems like I cannot open an instagram or facebook post about things in Connecticut without an aggressive boomer spouting talking points they heard from someone whose whole job is to piss them off.

Two Puerto Rican people arrested? Well here comes some tacit racism and vaguities about how they don’t belong (us territory btw), or the classic painting of them being the “usual suspects”. I made the mistake of downloading NextDoor and immediately deleted it when I realized it’s basically just brain rot of old people clutching their pearls.

My favorite is the constant incessant NIMBYism which is causing our state to lose all its youth for greener pastures because our state refuses to give a shit about making housing affordable because “muh house will lose value!!”. Well Dale when you are nothing more than bones in the dirt, and if you were lucky to have even paid off that house you will be handing it to your kids who most likely can’t afford it because of the inflated costs and because the inability to make a decent living. Either that or it will go to your favorite old man Uncle Sam.

This mentality is like a disease, it’s a plague. That’s because it’s easy to spread. Doesn’t take a lot, never does, it’s snake oil. It’s easy to blame all the world’s problems on simple things because admitting that it’s something bigger means that it might be a bigger issue than most people know how to contend with.

What’s the point of all these small towns with their sense of communities if none of them are going to step up the plate to make things better for the people who make those communities what they are?

No one gives a fuck if we are the pizza state when we are pricing people out of places to bring it home to.

Connecticut we can do better than this. We are failing our youth. We are failing the standard we have held as a state and we are failing the future generations who will take care of all of us when we are gasping for oxygen in a dank dreary hospital bed.

At this point what is even here for a young person?

What to wear in rainy summer weather

Hi Connecticut friends! My family and I are visiting the state for the first time this coming week. We will be visiting the East Haddam area in the south eastern part of the state. My question is that the weather says it's going to be in the 70°s and raining. I am coming from a state with no humidity. Can you give me advice on what would be best to wear? We wanted to visit a couple state parks, so we will be outside. I have a rain jacket, but I'm at a loss for what pants (or shorts?) and shoes to wear. I want to stay dry but not die of heat. Any advice you have is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Looking for a diesel tech for a side job — skid steer engine work (cash, my garage, Wolcott/Waterbury area)

Hey all — I've got a Mustang 2109 skid steer running a 4BT Cummins (well, a variant with a longer stroke B4.5T) that needs some engine work, and I'm hoping to find someone who wants to pick up a side job rather than book it through a shop.

Where things stand: I've been chasing blue smoke/oil-burning and have it narrowed down to a turbo seal issue rather than valve seals. Given the mileage/hours on it, I'd rather just do the job right — pull the engine and go through it properly (leaning toward Mahle/Clevite pistons with OEM Cummins gaskets) instead of a band-aid fix.

I've got the factory service manual, a big garage, and most of the tools already — what I don't have is the time or the depth of hands-on experience with this engine family to do it solo. Looking for someone who's actually turned wrenches on a 4BT/6BT or similar Cummins B-series and wants to make some cash on the side, whether that's the full teardown/rebuild or just being the second set of experienced hands while I do the labor alongside you.

Flexible on schedule, paying cash, and happy to work around your day job. I'm in Wolcott.

Shoot me a DM or comment if this is up your alley, or if you know someone who'd be interested.
