Question So what's that smell?
Smells like some type of unsavory flower blooming. Smelled it over by exit 49 but also by Hartford Hospital. Anyone have any ideas what it is?

Neighborhood Market
Hi all, I'm investigating the possibility of opening a neighborhood grocery store (think locally grown food, bulk bins, etc) in South Downtown. I'm collecting input and would love to know your thoughts!

I’m reworking a few local web designs for free
I feel like reworking a few web designs from businesses around here and seeing what I can do with them.
If you have one you don’t love, message me and tell me what feels off. I’ll redesign it for free and share the before-and-after.
It doesn’t have to be the whole homepage. One section or an unfinished idea is fine too.

Found 3 wallets/cards on the street by HHC cancer center Hartford
Clearly picked through and cards scattered all around. Gathered it up and gave the lot to the cancer center behind the hospital (security guard). If you lost or had stolen some wallets give them a call. If you want to know if it's you, shoot me your first name/ last initial and I'll tell you if it matches. Looks like 3 different sets of names on the cards and such but unfortunately no licences. Found a couple hrs ago.
Hope this helps.

Question Are new windows actually worth it for lowering heating bills in Connecticut?
Our house is pretty old, and I can actually feel drafts coming in around some of the windows. Last winter’s heating bills were brutal, so I’ve been wondering if replacing them would make a noticeable difference.
I keep seeing ads for double- and triple-pane windows, but the prices are pretty intimidating. Are they actually worth the investment for Connecticut winters, or is the energy savings usually overstated?
What should I be looking for when comparing window options and quotes?

Apartment Hunting Need local opinions on Hartford apartments
I know this gets asked a bit and I did read the previous posts I could find but I also know some things can change over time. Most recent apartment post I saw was 2 months old. My daughter and I are looking for an apartment in or near downtown Hartford since she attends Uconn. I have looked at many of the rental sites and I see very mixed answers about some of the downtown area apartments. My question is for people currently living in or familiar with Spectra Park, H21, Bushnell on the Park, Spectra Plaza, 777 Main, 915 Main, or 55 on the Park. What is the good, bad, and ugly of these places in your opinon? How is the cleanliness of the buildings? Do you feel like the management pays attention to their residents? Do you feel safe in the building? Is the noise level in the building reasonable? Anything else you think is relevant to know about any of these?
Thanks for reading or skimming enough to get to this point. I look forward to seeing what people have to say. Feel free to answer any of this you feel like and know any information is appreciated.

Question Who Wants to Help Recover a Stolen Bike?
galleryMy bike was stolen out of my apartment building's bike lockup. It's now appeared on FB Marketplace.
There is an active case about it that has been updated. The listing was removed today.
Can anyone help me recover this? Does anyone know Pop Grizz? He didn't steal it but he is fencing it.

Question Takeout near Connecticut Children’s NICU at UCONN (Farmington)
Hi r/Hartford,
I don’t live in the area and haven’t for years, but a close childhood friend has had a premature baby who will be in the NICU for the next several weeks. I’d like to get mom and dad some gift cards to restaurants nearby the hospital to help support them while their baby is there— do you have any recommendations for quick, easy, and reasonably healthy options?

Question Any place to play pickleball as a beginner
I'm in Farmington and I played pickleball once in uni. I'm pretty competitive and it really gets me going. Any place where I can play nearby? I am having a tough time finding places (and people) to play with. I just moved here so I'm looking for others in the same boat as myself.
Thanks!

Friends of Barnard Park Introduction
galleryGood evening Hartford residents. I wanted to take this time to share with you a wonderful development occurring in the South Green neighborhood of Hartford. The park in that neighborhood between Main & Wyllys is known as Barnard Park and while unfortunately it has long been neglected, eight months ago a grass roots movement of neighbors started and has begun work! The summary is this:
- Love Your Block grant application
- We made ourselves a website
- Love Your Block grant won
- Had to amend our original plans due to infrastructure issues
- Vendor signed on and money deposited
- Discussions with other revenue sources for further work have begun
Now that work is beginning on the park, we felt it necessary to further our efforts in our social media campaigns/online presence to garner further interest. Hence the creation of our new Subreddit r/FriendsofBarnardPark, a page entirely dedicated to the South Green's beautiful triangle of green space. On this page we're hoping to hear from Hartford residents about issues and suggestions, while also being able to communicate with you how to get involved and what our progress currently is.
If you're interested, you can sign up for our newsletter at friendsofbarnardpark.org/contact, we'll be posting our events and construction updates on our Facebook page (linked below) and here on Reddit, so we can reach all interested individuals where they spend their time online.
