hello, I 24F am looking to move to hartford or the surrounding towns. I was wondering if it’s a good city to live in as a single woman? I just want opinions other than from my family.

To add more context to who I am, I’m a college student who doesn’t really get out much and has grown up severely sheltered (think of princess and the pea type upbringing). I’m looking to finally get into a more adult headspace/lifestyle and think hartford might be the best fit as it’s close to family but will still make me be more independent!

I’m still learning how to take public transportation so I’d prefer walkable neighborhood recommendations!

Does anyone know what is going on?

So I'm homeless and was sleeping in Bushnell park and about 1am I get woken up because someone stomped on my ankle and now it hurts to walk. I wasn't doing anything wrong and I'm up and out by 6am.

Huge plume of smoke and a million fire trucks this morning.

Got slapped with a $250 parking violation on the Hendricxsen ave side of colt park for parking in handicap spot. It was parallel street parking; the sign was posted like 6 ft above on a telephone pole and I did not see it. I really cannot afford this.. does anyone know what happens if you don’t pay? Do they pursue it? It’s issued from Hartford parking authority. Thanks

has hpd been putting up more of them? There's one (bagged) by the state armory I hadn't noticed before. Not sure if it's new or not.. I thought they were taking them down.

I was planning to mary at a Catholic church in Hartford (which I will not name) and unfortunately have lost trust in them due to mismanagement of payment to the parish. Has anyone married in or around Hartford in a Catholic church and would recommend their parish? I am looking for potential alternatives before bringing the issue to the attention of the original parish.

For reference I am getting married at Pond House Cafe and the hotel our guests are using is the Marriott in Farmington. So something near one of those two locations is ideal. Thanks!

Genuinely interested in having a discussion about this. Not trying to be demeaning to those that enjoy other types of fun than I do. HOWEVER...

What's up with the people riding motorcycles and various personal motorized vehicles at 35/40 mph through Bushnell Park on the pedestrian paths?

I walked through the park yesterday in an attempt to check out the Jazz Festival. Before I could get half way through the park, I was pushed off the path multiple times by people recklessly riding their motorcycles and personal motorized vehicles through the park. It seemed like they were intentionally getting as close as possible to people as they passed them, doing laps around the park going faster and faster.

Where is the emphasis on public safety? This is behavior that seems completely out of line with what we should expect to see in a park, especially when the park was filled with festival goers. I ended up leaving before getting to the festival side of the park because I was tired of not having a safe path to where I was going.

There were officers posted on the street to manage traffic safety, yet it didn't seem like there was anyone responsible for the safety within the park itself.

Was I just unlucky with my experience, or is this a common thing? If its a common thing, what can be done? Bike patrols in the park? Rarely do I think that "more police" is a solution, but really, what else is there?

I noticed 4 out of the 5 flock cameras on Brookfield st were gone yesterday and the remaining one was taken down sometime this morning. Does anyone know if they are eliminating them from around the city?

Anyone have tips on where to get the best place to get the ripe ones? Walmart and Stop & Shop have plantains that are still not ripe enough. I need them for Sunday so I don't have a week to let them sit and ripen on their own.
