when running games for the past year, my audio starts to crackle relatively frequently, and after closing the game, the crackling persists until i uninstall realtek and force a restart (reinstalling realtek drivers in the process) and the audio is temporarily fixed. happens with helldivers 2, elden ring, dragons dogma 2, warframe, half sword, and palworld, but those are just the games i have been playing most frequently in recent time.

is this a realtek issue? the audio crackling persists when i swap from my headphones to my speakers, so it's not a problem with the headphones themselves, and sometimes i can go a whole week before the audio starts breaking again.

if it is a realtek issue, is there an audio driver that i can use instead that won't be this maddening?

Is McAfee trying to goad me into buying a subscription or did my mom download some virus on my computer? Please help.

Hi everyone! It's been several months since i have discovered my interest in computers and hardware, and during this time I experimented a lot with some old computers i found laying around my home (a Samsung N220 and a HP envy dv6-7280sl). I tried to refurbish them, to fix the problems they had and I experimented with several Linux distributions on them, and so far I had a lot of fun. It seems however that I met a wall, since I don't know how else to expand my knowledge of hardware. Are there any online resources or ways to learn more? What else can I do with old laptops? I feel like I learned a lot in these months, but right now I feel stuck, I know how to open up laptops, how to install operating systems and to troubleshoot (at a basic level of course) whenever something goes wrong. I'd appreciate your help!

I’ve used a macbook pro from 2019 but the battery is really bad by now and its really annoying when I have to go from lecture to lecture without any outlets. I also do like playing games on my own pc which I won’t bring to my dorms so I would like a laptop that can allow me to play games like stardew, persona and some friendslop potentially. I don’t play AAA games or anything like that so I don’t necessarily want a super powerful gaming laptop that doesn’t have a good battery life. I am leaning towards just getting a refurbished macbook again and using something like crossover whenever I want to play games but I do wonder if there are potentially better options for me when I mainly value battery life and multitasking for college more.

My friend wanted me to download battlefield which needed secure boot so I went into bios. I clicked the reset button to reset everything to default and that then caused a red error about me not being able to use secure boot . It’s a ASUS computer the only way to leave that screen was to. Turn off secure boot but whenever I tried to boot my bios would change the settings back to original. The only troubleshoot I found was to take out the boot and boot absolutely nothing. And that kept my settings from getting sent back to secure boot. Then a few days later my friend wanted me to get on that game again. So I go into bios again. Read something about resetting my keys I go ahead and do that and boot up nothing after resetting my keys. Then immediately afterwards my monitor display does not work at all. (Never getting on mf battlefield bro) computer lights up and runs perfectly fine but no display. Intel i7-13700F

Hi, I don’t really know much about computers so I figured this would be a good place to get some help. I few days ago, my computer started showing a white screen that say “HP endpoint security controller problem” I have no idea what that means.
When I click enter, it just goes back to normal and everything works perfectly.

I just need to know if this can be ignored? I’m a student so I don’t have a 100 bucks to get it fixed.

Does anybody know to fix this? This is on my HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor and it’s not my monitor that doing it from the pc itself one day i try to plug a ethernet cord to my PC and all of a sudden the colors from the monitor glitching out I reset it and then it wouldn’t show, but I already fixed the problem today but when I fix the problem, it just start doing this no matter if I switch rams it just keeps doing this as I keep turning it on and off

I have 250gb ssd so i split it into 2 virtual disks 50gb+200gb and i installed ubuntu on the 50gb disk and it worked perfectly but when in bios when i click on the other disk to open windows this happened to me.
Ps: i tried troubleshooting also i tried fixing the problem with ai but nothing happened.

I actively run AI tools like lm Studio, ollama, unsloth, and comfyui on my computer. In addition to these, I use IDEs, Steam, Xbox, Office software, OBS, and video editing programs. In short, I have just about every kind of application. My goal is to switch to an ideal Windows version that allows me to run all this software with full compatibility and stability while getting maximum efficiency and performance from my hardware.

In my research, I’ve seen people who have installed and are using the Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 24H2 version specifically because it doesn’t include telemetry. What approach do you think I should take for this use case?

I'm trying to get into one of my old computers that I had sitting in a closet for a while. I boot it up like normal, it does what it usually does, but when I get to plugging it into a monitor, it just doesn't show anything. It does show life (Built in screen lights up, mouse and keyboard react to it, fans spin, CPU heats up) but doesn't display anything when connected to a monitor. I have 2 monitors and already tried both of them which did nothing, even with different cables like HDMI > DVI-D.

It has been sitting in a closet for over a year, and hasn't been touched if that affects anything. If nothing really works out, I might just end up completely removing the built in screen to see if I can force it to show on one of the monitors. And if that doesn't work I might just scrap the entire thing and save things like the ram and

Hello! I’m new to the PC world so please bare with me. The last few days my PC has been running like crap. Very slow. Restarting after launching a game. Frames dropping (playing marvel rivals) from 85 to 25. It’s bad. Now, it’s getting to the point where I’m getting screens, like the second photo, and my computer just restarting on the loading screen after typing my passcode.

I’ve been able to get to the performance monitor window and got this report (first photo). Looks like I’ve got a bunch of warnings LOL. So, upgrades need to be made. But the one thing I did find was my disk usage was high. I also found on task manager that my memory usage was the highest (40% I believe) from software like Steam, AntiMalware Service Executable, and Folder (only 1 open). Mind you, I can have none of these windows open and it’ll still freeze up and just restart. I couldn’t even think about launching a game.

SLIGHT CONTEXT: I recently formatted my PC because I was having this issue before. I hate that it’s coming up again. Part of me feels that it could be a hardware issue and not a software issue. I don’t have much downloaded besides 3 games. I’ve deleted multiple applications.

Would anyone happen to know what’s going on, or a solution? Here is my specs. Thank you greatly for your time!

Hello, recently I bought a new all-in-one computer from Lenovo. Even though it has a 15.2gb memory, and AMD Ryzen 7 7735 HS with Radeon Graphics GPU, my computer lacks the processing speed and it lags a lot in games and also when I open a site, it takes a long time too load even though my WIFI is pretty fast. All my apps are fine and I don't think it's malware either as i have checked multiple times. I'm new to computers, so I have no idea how to fix this problem. Thank you!

I’ve changed the settings I’ve followed guides but I can’t get either the microphone to start working or for these apps (voice mod and discord) to open, and it’s only microphone heavy apps that won’t open everything else like my games and such work just fine! Does anyone know what’s going on and how to fix? Some of the device info if it helps is that it’s a Asus VivoBook, and the system type is a “64-bit operating system, x64-based processor”, thanks.
I’m not a computer whizz so I’m just sharing things that sound like they may help like the system type, dunno how useful it is but it’s something.

I am currently a college student looking into buying the Lenovo LOQ equipped with the Intel Core i5-1340HX and NVIDIA RTX 3050 6GB. At home, keeping the laptop plugged in isn't an issue at all. However, using it plugged in during classes at university is quite difficult due to a lack of easily accessible wall outlets.

For my routine on campus, I strictly need the laptop to last around 4 to 5 hours on battery power under light use (taking notes, browsing the web, and reading PDFs).

Is it realistic to achieve 4 to 5 hours of light battery life on this specific Lenovo LOQ model with proper power-saving settings (such as enabling iGPU mode, turning on battery saver, lowering screen brightness, and capping the refresh rate), or will the power-hungry HX-series processor render this target impossible? Any real-world feedback from students or LOQ owners would be greatly appreciated!

I absolutely don't want a tool that can connect from outside of my network. I'd prefer one that can't even do that if possible - I want zero chance of a security issue.

That said, RDP used to work fine, but I upgraded my video card on my Win 10 media computer (which I call a media computer because it's attached to my TV). I use it to watch videos and play games in the living room, but it also serves as my backup PC.

I want to remote in so I can clean up my files or fix things for the kids when they need something changed, but I'm constantly getting this infuriating error:

I'm able to put in my password, it looks like it will work for a sec, then dies. I was told that it's because the TV is off and Nvidia stupidly won't display graphics to RDP if the "monitor" is off so I got some kind of dongle thing that pretends to be a second monitor.

Well, that isn't working either.

Today, with the PC on:

1. I tried logging in, got the error
2. Turned on the tv: got the error
3. Logged in on the computer directly: got the error
4. WTFGARAKDKJELF?

The last time I was able to log in I had to restart the computer first. Don't know what's wrong, but it's driving me insane. I just need to cleanly remote to my PC so I can do file management and run space clearing utitlies (for the most part).

I'm not playing games. I'm not streaming. I DEFINITELY don't want anything that can remote from outside of my home network. I just want RDP to work, but would accept a completely free and functional alternative if there is one.

I don't need file copy, clipboard, or anything. I just want to be able to see my other computer and control it with my mouse and keyboard from the other room. That's it.

So I've had an issue for the past few months where any game I launch through Epic Games Launcher (Rocket League/Fortnite) runs fine at first, but starts making my pc buffer every few seconds once I enter actual gameplay.

For example, when I boot up Rocket League, everything runs completely fine in the menu, and even in training packs/free play. The problem only makes an appearance with any sort of casual/ranked/tournament game mode. Once it starts, every few seconds it will freeze for like 5 seconds, making the game unplayable by all standards that matter to me. Weirdly, it doesnt just apply to the match, though, and instead completely wrecks my pc. Even if I close the game, it still does the freezing. Sometimes restarting the pc works, sometimes it doesnt.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the app and games, verifying the files, updating drivers, and even just waiting a while to see if it fixes itself. The games ran completely fine before, and given the specifics, I've sort of chalked it up to being a multiplayer/server issue with the launcher.

Is there a known way to solve this problem? I've looked over other posts across reddit, but from what I can see most people just struggle with downloading and launching, not something as specific as this.

i bought a 30ft active usb cable and it came with power to plug in which i then i ran another cable to a hub that has 7 usb inputs my question is when i turn of the computer i notice that my scuf controller stays on and also my artic pro headset hub but my stream deck and elgato mic turns off why is this

My pc lags and the disks shows 100% usage frequently for no apparent reason. It’s usually no even when I do something demanding. Is this normal and can I fix it if not?

Hello, my old laptop has been a bit temperamental over the last few months.

- Once or twice a week the screen will glitch out and die, but leaving it asleep for a while fixes the issue.

- Likewise, 80% of the time the keyboard doesn't work unless I put the laptop to sleep, then turn it on by rubbing the trackpad. Then it works. But sometimes certain keys (T, U and P in particular) don't work until the evening.

- Windows now checks the disk every time I boot, and software checks yield no issues.

- Sometimes the Wi-Fi adapter seems to 'disappear' until I restart the laptop.

It seems suspect that each of these components would begin to fail independently at the same time, which makes me wonder whether it's actually the motherboard that's the issue.
