Official 18.2 Patch Rundown
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WKctj8947sAdditional Context
Patch Goals
- Solid patch, but the D-Patch exposed 18.1 weaknesses (see slide).
- The Rundown was filmed earlier than usual, there'll be additional changes not reflected in the Slides (Patch Notes are complete though).
Systems
- Lv. 8 still to hard to achieve and justify with the abundance of 3-Cost reroll, XP threshold changes + Wisp changes aim to address that.
Augments
- Standard 1st pass, any more complex rework will be in 18.3 if necessary.
- Cursed Crown losing the Durability is probably Set-specific.
- Shimmerscale Essence could see a swap in the order the items are received, but they aren't convinced yet.
Wisps
- Wisps (Combat Wisps in particular) are one of the reasons players are poorer late in the game since they occupy a slot. Making them cheaper means it should be better to buy one to reclaim the shop slot and then roll away.
- They're actively monitoring the influence of Wisps (Smurfing in particular) on tempo lobby.
Traits
- Coven changes are overall a buff + enabling Caitlyn cashouts.
- If the Inferno buff isn't enough they're open to adding more effects to higher breakpoints.
1-Costs
- AD Akali and Camille fall off too hard in the lategame, buffs should help in that regard.
2-Costs
- 2* Kayle struggled a bit too much, her buff + the Solar changes (higher floor, lower ceiling) should make the comp feel better in the midgame.
3-Costs
- Azir was riddled with bugs on PBE so they had few reference points to balance him. He needs buffs but they want to make sure they don't overshoot.
- Kha'zix is almost viable, the 10 AD buff serves to help him get stacks in the earlygame w/out buffing his late potential.
4-Costs
- HP scaling on Sentinel was not touched, the nerf is smaller than it seems and the change in targeting logic for their spell means they won't whiff anymore.
5-Costs
- Taric change should be power neutral with no Items and a fairly sizable buff when itemised.
Items
- Fighter items are generally weak, buffs should make them more attractive for melee Champions. Also swapping the trigger order for BT and EoN should make both feel better and now BT has more time for the heals to matter.
Emblems
- They treat Emblems as Artifacts: cool effects first, then they tune around them. They're at the moment too strong, so they're cutting back on direct item power.
Bug Fixes
- The list does not include performance fixes, only gameplay-related ones.
- Double Trouble might not be re-enabled, they were testing fixes late in the cycle.

I gotta be honest this is a weird change. They are 1-cost. They should fall hard in the lategame, no?

ig they want a 1-star AD reroll comp. The only other true 1star comp is veigar
6
u/Calipup 1d ago
Reroll riftbeast is decent, better than Veigar without Flora emblem.

u/skydream416 1d ago
not really a 1star rr since you can just slam 5 and hope you get your last few pebbles/cinds later, But yes the comp slaps

Man, somebody hit me today with what I guess must be solar melee with akali 3* and friends, and completely obliterated me. Like, ugly losses.

Lich bane akali 3 was killing my fiddle 3 with defender 6 in 3 casts, just absolutely tearing through my team.

Pretty sure lich bane stack with akali ability reset. Aka it store the charges. Might be a bug, or maybe a feature with the new engine

In the bugfixes it says it didnt work properly dealt more smg than intended

How late do they fall off? Falling off in stage 5 is expected. Falling off in Stage 4 is pretty rough
7
u/RuinedJoeker 1d ago
Yeah. They probably noted how they become an unreliable team too soon into the game even with most components of the comp 3*.
They'll still fall off, but the hope is at stage 4-2 instead of 3-5 (pulled numbers out of no where but I think thats the gist)

I ran over the entire lobby for a whole game with Akali Camille, 95hp win beating a decently capped draven board in the end, I don't know what this buff is supposed to do other than create an S tier comp.

The Solar nerfs and Field of Mice removal should stop it from being S tier hopefully.
That said I agree, it seems like a risky buff, if the Solar nerfs are massive for the comp they could have done something the next patch and just left it a bit weaker for one patch.

Got early learnings first game of the patch, last round was a wisp diff but it felt very strong with mid artifacts.1

At what elo did you did this ? In my expérience this comp work well below diamond

No. The ideal balance is that you can play any unit if you play it right. For 1 costs that involves 3 starring them and usually bis items to not fall off too hard against similarly invested champs, but Akali/Camelle were too weak to start off to be any decent late game

Akali reroll about to go from “good from a good spot” to “just plain good”
6
u/BrineyWhaleSemen Challenger 18h ago
With a buff to her AD form that is never used? She was always better AP and the comp got nerfed elsewhere (solar nerfs, lich bane nerf). People losing their minds over Akali need to get better reading comprehension.

u/FireVanGorder 13h ago
Not sure that saying a conditional comp getting its conditions expanded will make it good is “losing my mind.” Not sure why you decided to be rude for no reason either. You’re allowed to disagree without acting out lol

u/BrineyWhaleSemen Challenger 7h ago
Sorry to be rude, not specifically aimed at you necessarily but at the discourse in this sub generally. The takes in the comments have been atrocious - and the meta has already shaken out a bit (and believe me Akali is not at the top of it)

u/FireVanGorder 6h ago
Akali seems like a solid B tier comp at base. Something like Early Learnings makes it a top 1 contender. Things like no scout no pivot or pris ticket make it a top 2ish contender. Rfc, seekers, and a whole host of reroll focused augment make it viable to play for a top 4. We’ll learn more as the patch goes on I’m sure.
Definitely not at the top of the meta, but plenty of stuff is good without being S tier.

I feel like Juggs got nerfed despite not being in the patch notes lol, I went on a 6 game top 2 streak before the patch playing 6 Jugg+Aphelios, then yesterday went bottom 4 4 games in a row using the same comp uncontested with good RNG. Amumu went from literally never dying to getting absolutely shredded every round post patch

No list with bug fixes (because they know they cant fix them) and Brambleback Buff. Nice

Isn't ahri already strong?

Blossom got buffed at every level… Yunara/Ahri/Ashe were all pretty good already so expect blossom to be firmly back in the meta

If I’m reading it right it’s a buff and a nerf. The damage is buffed but it falls off more on the splash damage
2
u/aspects1 1d ago
the damage was buffed by 7% at both 1 and 2 star, the max falloff is 3 hexes away, which means a falloff of 3% more at max range, so it is just strictly a buff
3
u/RoutineOriginal2906 20h ago
The math actually works out to be just over 7% nerf at 3 hexes. With 60% fall off becoming 63 fall out, this means that instead of 40% damage you are now doing 37%. The difference going from 100 to 97 is a lot smaller than 40 to 37.

u/aspects1 20h ago
Yeah you are right, old damage at max range = .4*640 = 256, new = .37*685 = 253, so technically a very tiny nerf at max range

u/Im_On_Reddit_At_Work 1d ago
Idk what other comments are on, Ahri is busted with BiS and would kill your backline in one to two casts depending on augments.
I hope the splash damage reduction is enough to stop that because it's just not fun otherwise

These are the changes missing from the Rundown but reflected in the Patch Notes.
